Great experience. Came for some flea treatment for my two new little friends Mr Meow and Mrs Meow. My snooty cat rejects all these treats - somehow he won't even eat Tuna for cats by Revel - he only eats human tuna. Result is I've made two new friends Mr and Mrs Meow. My big guy has pretty serious separation anxiety, so drop-offs at the groomer are never easy -- but Mahoganie has such a calm, confident way with him that I always leave knowing he's in good hands. Every single time I pick him up, he looks healthy, happy, and well cared for. You can tell she genuinely loves what she does and takes the time to make even the most anxious pups feel comfortable. Alright I need to update my review and give Petco some love, despite the awkward miscommunication that took place that one time about the rats. To be fair, when I asked if they had rats, I should have been more clear I meant live ones, lol. Anyways. They have everything we need for our non-traditional 'pets' - squirrels, raccoons, possums, birds, and yes, rats.... We welcome all kinds at our home, don't judge. It's like Snow White's forest at our place. We buy large bags of sunflower seeds, corn, bird seed, and occasionally peanuts, although we usually get the peanuts at Safeway where they're cheaper. The critters are always happy with the goods. They've trained us well. Also, one time one of our squirrels got mange, and the poor guy was clawing his skin off. He also had a bum leg, probably from falling from a height while scratching. We were hesitant to take him to a vet, because in all likelihood they would have wanted to put him down. We got medicines at Petco, trapped Mr. Squirrel, treated him over about 10 days days, let him rest up, and then released him. He's doing fine now. I got the wrong size and was trying to exchange it. I saw online that they had it in stock, so I went over there. I gave it 3 stars because the aisles seemed a little unorganized, maybe shoppers browsed for stuff and then put it back in another aisle, it happens but it took a little bit longer for me to find what I was looking for. Then there was a little bit of a wait since only one person was up at the register. On a Saturday afternoon which gets a little more foot traffic. Behind the friendly staff and tidy store I discovered a heart-wrenching reality, numerous animals in small cages sold as if they are inanimate objects... This sun conure particularly broke my heart. This highly social parrot, an endangered species, was sitting alone, essentially in solitary confinement in a tiny cage millions of times smaller than what his natural range would be in the wild. This is a wild animal. Wildlife so not belong in captivity - especially endangered species! Breeding them in captivity does not make them "domesticated". Also I recently learned that the birds sold at Petco come from horribly cruel breeding mills where thousands of birds languish in cramped, filthy cages and many die before they arrive at Petco to be sold. I went to this PetCo last night and was angered to see that they are still selling live animals at this location!! All types of animals from sad hamsters in tiny little cages, to snakes in too-small enclosures who were literally climbing the walls trying to escape (see photo), to exotic frogs, to all kinds of fish. It's hard to believe that in this day and age, big corporations like this are still selling live animals! They must know these animals are sourced from horrible breeding operations with awful conditions, and it's so sad that they are then being confined in these tiny cages at PetCo, to be sold to anybody who has just a few dollars to buy them but not necessarily enough money or time to actually take good care of these pets. Nemo & Dory (see photos) should be free in the ocean, not suffering in small tanks at stores. So PetCo, please stop selling live animals! read more

Came here to get flea and tick medicine for my dog, but they said they didn't have the one-month supply I wanted, so I was forced to buy the three-month version at a higher cost. Then they told me my dog needed a rabies shot and a "one-in-six" shot, and that buying everything together would save me money. After deciding on the package and paying for it, they later told me my dog couldn't get all of the shots the same day because of his weight -- information they should have known before taking my money. It honestly sounds like a scam. When I came back for the second shot, they suddenly claimed there was a time limit for administering it -- something they never mentioned when I first paid. As a result, they took about $75 for a service I never received, and then told me I'd have to pay again because of that supposed time restriction. When I asked to speak with a supervisor, someone else just came out saying they were "in charge for the day," which wasn't what I requested. The place is always dirty, the customer service is poor, and this was the final straw. I won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone. read more

I have rats. There I said it. I also have squirrels, raccoons, possums, crows, a big ass spider in my old style weighted windows, and other birds. But seriously this spider??? Kardashians take a seat ya'll got nothing on Miss Spidy. They all live outside except for the occasional squirrel who ventures inside (still working on trust issues with the rats) and Spidy. So here's the deal. Someone has to feed them and this is where Petco comes in. I get the big bag of sunflower seeds and the squirrel critter food which is mostly corn. I get peanuts at Safeway. Oh and in the winter when flies are scarce I get meal worms for Miss Spidy. Now that it is spring and into summer I just leave my doors open to give her flies to trap in her web. So I still order some critter vitamins online. Wish Petco carried some of these. They also have a great line of items for fleas and other health issues. Awhile ago one of the squirrels in the neighborhood came down with a really bad case of mange, and also a totally jacked up rear leg. I purchased multiple spray bottles of kill the mange and soothing solutions for this guy, and doctored him back to health for 2 weeks after I trapped him and brought him indoors. I also fed him Ivermectin 3 times. About the size of a rice grain. 2 weeks in captivity did him good. Petco had everything I need for topical treatment for this guy. We also cruise the birds, mice and snakes at the store. They get 4 stars because they are close and have everything my critters need when they need them. read more

Why is Petco even necessary? Have you ever traveled to places like Havana Cuba, Kathmandu Nepal, or the many, many cities and countries of the world that have stray dogs and cats. I find myself becoming depressed sometimes, seeing the stray dogs and animals that are starving. I think to myself, where are the Petco's out here?! But in much of the world, people are barely making it themselves, so the animals of course take a back seat. That's why Petco is a necessity. Sure, buying online is less expensive and more convenient. But sometimes we need items immediately, whether it's for our dogs, cats, fish, rodents, reptiles, etc. Or maybe we have cat or dog that is a finicky eater and need to constantly exchange foods to something they will eat. And for me, even though there are no stray dogs in the US, there are stray cats that could use a meal or treat, and a quick stop to Petco can provide that immediately. While the customer service is nonexistent, navigating a pet store isn't rocket science. Grab what you need, have the cashier ring it up, and go about your business. read more

The service is absolutely terrible. My dog is a Bichon, and whenever his fur gets even a little tangled, they immediately shave it all off instead of brushing it out. They completely shave his entire body every time -- because it's faster and easier for them, and they don't want to spend any extra time. This happens every single visit. I also have no idea what kind of attitude they show toward other dogs, but I always feel that my dog is terrified every time I take him there for a bath. He's so scared he doesn't even want to go inside, and when we come home, he sometimes vomits. Many of my friends have mentioned that their dogs are also afraid of Petco's grooming service, but I didn't take it seriously before. If you try to make a complaint, Petco's management never responds or follows up. With such a poor attitude and service, I've decided that I will never go back there again. read more

Had first grooming appointment on 07/11 with sophia. I picked my dog up and he had ALOT of hair still on him, like he hasnt been brushed after his grooming. I had to go vacuum my car out. I have a shih tzu/poodle mix. Those dogs dont shed. Over the next couple days i noticed alot of missed spots and super short areas. Took him back monday, my day off. They said i had to wait for sofia e. The General manager happen to be there and offer me a refund and free groom to fix it. So took him back on 07/18. The groomer, sofia seemed upset about me bringing him back, said she couldnt get it all one length. Ive taken him several times to get a haircut and never had uneven spots. Today its been 4hours and i finally called to check the status and she said shes backed up and hasnt even started grooming him. I have left bad reviews, in hopes people wont have to deal with the same BS. I feel bad that hes been sitting in a cage in a loud stressful enviroment for 4 plus hours. I specifically said a light dust nothing major my pup came back with her tail thinned out and way shorter plus they shaved her coat and trimmed/cut way too much. Petco is literally a five minute walk from my place. I come here to quickly grab food, poop bags, etc for my dog. But my main reason for visiting this Petco is the groomers! I've come here maybe like five times now and am pleased every time with the results. Binky always comes back smelling good and clean and looking like a brand new dog. Do not take your dog to get groomed here! Today I took my dog in for the first time. As we were getting checked in by a very nice young lady, I saw one of the other groomer's working on a clearly anxious dog. She clearly had an attitude, and was callous toward the dog, pushing him around the grooming table because she was frustrated he wouldn't stand. I immediately got a bad feeling, but I left my dog with the nice young girl. As I was standing in line it occurred to me that this was his first time back in a public groomer's (we'd had someone coming to the house before we moved to this area) and I wanted him to have a good experience. When I voiced my concern to the cashier she called forth the manager. I expressed my concern in a cool and collected manner and told her I would prefer the other groomer work with my dog if possible or I would be happy to take him home. She went back to the grooming center and told the groomer I had called her aggressive - which I didn't say. I clearly said she hadn't been beating dogs or anything - I just didn't want her handling my dog if she wasn't a dog person. The manager came back and told me the groomer had cancelled the appointment and wanted to confront me because she was offended - an aggressive move and clearly demonstrating the vibe that I was concerned about. I gladly took my dog home. It's now a couple of hours later and I went to schedule my dog with another Petco where I know the staff (it's just a bit farther than I'd like to go) and guess what - they blacklisted my dog. Officially it says that I can't make online appointments because my dog demonstrated "a sensitivity to grooming". This is a lie. He was not at all groomed by these people. Edited to add: you can tell that Petco supports this behavior by looking at their canned responses. "Sorry to hear hope you have a better time in the future" makes zero sense when your employees blacklisted my dog because I reported negative treatment of the animals So basically don't come here - if you dare speak out against the mistreatment of animals the employees will conspire to keep you from making appointments. Look at their google reviews - the grooming department has a 5 year history of negative instances. I'll be taking up this incident with corporate. Completely unprofessional. read more

My senior dog needed a refill of script n checkup. I do t know what happened in the Bay Area, but you have to book a Veterinarian appointment at least 1 month out. Kind of sucks, but this was easy and flawless to book online! Upon Arrival we got lined up outside to see the veterinarian. It was literally a waiting room visit. Seemed quick enough to get everything he needed! He got a blood test, and a vaccine, then his script for anti-flea! We did have to return for his rabies shot & they booked that only 2 weeks out. First and LAST time coming for GROOMING!!!! Booked my first time visit for my dog to be groomed and I accidentally booked Short Hair - Small size dog. It was an honest mistake but the groomers were really rude about the situation. I really felt uncomfortable. I came in about a week before my scheduled appointment. Sarah was the only groomer there for just a drop in nail trim. She did help out and mention that if I waited a week until my scheduled appointment the nail trim comes with it. So I decided to wait. Went to return this bag of hay because there were too many foxtails in it. It happens, foxtails are everywhere lately. What left a bad taste in my mouth was that staff pulled me aside to claim this is not foxtail, rather alfalfa flower. I work with rescues for both adults and kits so I know for a fact this is not what alfalfa looks like. I confirmed this with staff by pulling up a photo of what alfalfa flowers look like vs foxtails but they refused to acknowledge it. Saying the imaged "alfalfa" they specifically feed to their guinea pigs. SAD! Alfalfa is NOT appropriate for adults rabbits/piggies and can cause kidney stones. More importantly, these are foxtails which are MOST DEFINITELY not safe. I hope they are able to re-evaluate their misinformation to ensure the health of their and customer small animals. Mickaela/ Mickey completely exceeded our expectations. She was so incredibly sweet and patient with us the entire time my partner and I were deciding to bring home a sweet Guinea pig. She took her time and explained everything so sweet and explained how beneficial the monthly pet plan was. But simply because it is walking distance from our home, it is super convenient . We also learned that pricing is totally competitive and reasonable if you have the Pals reward. And with the app, I am able to check their inventory on a limited ingredient puppy food my pup was eating. It is very accurate. And Petco has great on time delivery with freshest bags of food. We used Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Diet Lamb & Rice and Salmon & Rice for puppies when we thought she had a chicken allergy. We've purchased this food from Chewy and Amazon, and while understanding they don't have high demand for this food, both times the bags arrived terribly rancid, even though it was not expired yet. Petco in-store and shipped inventory are always fresh. GROOMING: We have been trying out grooming services, all a la carte, so nail trim, ear cleaning, teeth brushing. Today we came in for a sanitary trim. The groomer did a fantastic job and helped buff my pups nails and cleaned her ears for free! My pup doesn't need a full groom, she is a golden retriever, and anyways, groomers were booked out thru Aug and Sept! One groomer quoted $128 (that includes a 20% discount!) . read more
