My first two appointments went well, which made me confident in my choice for my kitten's care. However, my third appointment raised serious concerns. After a tough appointment Where the vet and tech were not synced up and asking me questions that they should know the answer to (ex: has your cat had any vaccines? On my third appointment at the office) Not taking time to answer questions about my cat during the appointment. Etc etc etc I emailed to let them know I was disappointed in my experience and I asked for all records as I leave to find another vet. In reviewing my cat's records I received today , I found they had been altered a lie fabricated and written in to address a specific complaint I made. They are different than the records that were sent to me the day of the appointment. While I've been told it's just a coincidence, the inaccuracy in their recordkeeping is alarming. There were quite a few mistakes made with very little accountability sometimes it was their systems color coating other times it was they don't know how that happened... It's all incredibly disheartening. I was quoted almost $3000 for a routine kitten spay, and the standard visit fee exceeds $100. While I understand they are a small business, the quality of care provided, careless mistakes, lack of accountability and inaccurate record keeping does not justify such exorbitant costs.. If you decide to use this vet, I strongly recommend meticulously checking your records a few weeks later for accuracy.

Let's face it, when it comes to our pets, we could ALL occasionally be accused of being a "Crazy Cat Lady" if our 4-legged fur-baby needs a doctor. The need for Urgent Care can be an emotionally stressful situation, but ... These TOP NOTCH professionals have everything under control! Front desk, Assistant, Doctor They love their jobs and it shows. We had just rescued a young dog that was transported to us from CA with a foot injury that had not been treated. She needed assessment ASAP. The staff here is everything a pet owner could hope for in this situation: Available, Knowledgeable, Friendly, Compassionate and Loving !! They were gentle with this disoriented, frightened girl who was in a strange state with strangers, in a medical facility, surrounded by unfamiliar smells and people. Fortunately, nothing was broken so anti-inflammatories, a short sequence of pain killers, and restricted movement were all that was needed to give her foot a chance to heal was what the doctor ordered.

Incredible...quick appointment - efficient app to communicate - incredibly talented, friendly, knowledgeable and great communicator veterinarian Dr Ashley ! Luna - the technician was so gentle ..first visit and in an emergency situation ! Whoah I come from big cities and this practice is a true gem ! We addressed everything today from her heart to the foxtails to the vaccines ! Don't hesitate to! I am bringing my cat next !

Best experience we have had at a vet and these guys aren't young!

This has been the BEST vet experience these pups have ever had in their 8 years of life. I recently started taking my dogs to Dr. Ashley by way of a strong referral. Now every time we go back we see Hailey and Caitlyn and they make my dogs so excited to be at the vet! They are sooo sweet, super knowledgeable and definitely dog whisperers. My dog Ryu has never willingly entered a vet (or groomer, etc) office. He waltzes right into Marina Village and gets so excited to see Caitlyn and Hailey!!! They worked wonders getting him to allow them to give him vaccines. They allowed me to be with him and pet him while Hailey gave him treats and Caitlyn injected his rear multiple times. I am a true fan. I can't say enough good things about this experience! Oh, the front desk staff are always so kind and welcoming, too!

First time client- they operate via text which makes my life way better! Had to put down a deposit, which is totally understandable. Got an appointment very next day in the morning due to my dog limping. Very clean open environment. Staff was very friendly and hope to work with them more in the future.

DO NOT TAKE YOU PET HERE. Our dog was a patient of Dr McCaughan and, although she is very warm and friendly, we spent thousands of dollars on bloodwork, a dental cleaning and nail trim and wound up living a nightmare due to their staff's incompetence and, even more insulting, a complete and callous disregard for our pet dog's wellbeing. Before the procedure we directly asked if Dr. McCaughan would be the one doing it, and were straight-up lied to that yes, she would. Turns out she wasn't, and they overdosed on the anethesia; when we picked our dog up (on a Friday afternoon), she couldn't stand or walk, and we received zero instructions on what to expect. Our dog couldn't walk, was distressed, unrinated in her bed/on herself multiple times and didn't eat or drink for over 24 hours. All for a routine dental cleaning. On top of everything, three of her nails (and counting!) have become infected as a result of their office's lack of sanitary standards. We have spent hundreds of dollars, gone through a month-long course of antibiotics, and her nails are still infected. She may lose one of her toes. Another vet has indicated that they've only seen this happen when dirty instruments and/or contaminated quickstop have been used. The very worst part is that we gave the office the benefit of the doubt because we really liked Dr. McCaughan yet were treated in the most callous and uncaring way imaginable. The front office manager is very unpleasant and their response was basically "sorry you're upset, we'll close your account" - they literally could not care less about the pain and stress they've caused our pet and the significant additional expense they've caused us. Go somewhere else, please.

Prepaid for exam, still got charged. Tried to make me prepaid for fecal and deworming as well.

While I spent a lot of money, I was happy to know that my dog finally got some treatment for his arthritis. Due to my schedule, they scheduled me for his monthly Librela shot at the Pacific location. I got a call today (on the day of his appointment) saying that I need a record of his vaccinations before he can get his second dosage of Liberla shot. During the first visit, they never once mentioned that I need to submit his record of vaccinations, as I don't have them. They said that according to CA law, they can't give him his Librela shot without the rabies booster, which is understandable, but I wish they would have told me that even prior to sedating him, giving him X-rays and his first dosage of Librela. Since my dog desperately needs his Librela shot today, I asked if they could comped the $37 rabies shot. They said "no". I spent $1800 on the first vet visit and his monthly Librela shot is $180. I would have never done that if I would have known about their requirements and terrible customer service. The reception stood firm on their $37 rabies shot requirement, never apologized or even empathized with my frustration. It's ridiculous how fast they take our money, then make rules and refuse to compromise because they know that our pets need the car. Very disappointing.

The staff can be rude, indifferent, and sometimes unaccountable. Phone calls rarely get answered in real time. I've never had this experience with another clinic - if they can't answer, most will at least acknowledge you and put you hold. One time I even had to come in person because no one answered the phone, despite being on hold the whole time. When I walked in, there were no other patients in the lobby, so it's unclear why calls aren't answered. Again, there is a pattern of not answering the phone. I also have always found it odd and somewhat off putting that the front counter displays a sign suggesting the "most valuable gift" is promoting referrals to others. Very business forward... The last straw for us was having to wait two weeks for a tech appointment (for an injection) when our dog was itching a lot. They had no other options to help her feel comfortable in the meantime and didn't seem to care, so we ended up going to another vet who could see her the same week. We appreciate the care they gave our dog over the years, and we've always had a positive experience with Dr. Rabbi. Unfortunately, due to the drop in service and attentiveness, we will not be returning.

I then went to a few other vets prior to JLPH who gave me quite high prices for tumor removal surgeries, so I was weighing my options when coming to JLPH. Dr. Holmes came in whopping with telling me a full leg amputation would actually be the best bet for him to live a long, complications and cancer free life since there is a high chance the removed tumor would grow back and it would leave the leg very weak. She mentioned other vets probably didn't suggest an amputation for my cat was because he is obese but she was transparent and said she has seen cases where they do just fine as tripods. My husband and I decided to take the plunge and let her surgically amputate his entire leg. Not only was the procedure and care for him done exceptionally well, the aftercare the team showed me and my cat was also very kind and reassuring. It's been a month and a day since the procedure and our big tripod is doing great! He's currently on a weight loss journey (thank you Dr. Holmes for the prescription diet) and is able to walk down AND up our flight of stairs. They texted me the wrong appointment time and when I got there they told me my appointment was canceled. I was baffled because I confirmed the appointment that morning. They said they made a mistake and were understaffed, so they couldn't see me. I had to reschedule and come back a week later. The only reason why I agreed to even come back was because they offered a discount for new patient exam fee for the both of my dogs AFTER I asked. I came back today to get their ears checked for an infection. They said it would take 30-45mins but called me to pick them up 1 hour and 6mins later. Then they said their microscope BROKE so they couldn't determine if they had a bacterial/yeast infection. I still had to pay for their ear cleanings after this experience ($71 each). They said to come back a week later if their ears still smelled like they had a yeast infection. No, thanks. They also ignored my concerns when I asked about antibiotics for my senior dog's bad breath even though she had a dental procedure a few months ago. They said they would check her mouth in the back, but when I came to pick them up they never followed up. I didn't ask because at this point I was incredibly frustrated with the whole experience. I definitely will not be coming here again and do not care for a response from the clinic. Please check the other low star reviews. They seem to have issues with management, scheduling, admin turnover, and being understaffed. If you are okay with this treatment, then by all means take your pets here. Good luck.

She makes sure to let you know about ALL possible outcomes but always aims for the best possible scenario. That said, the communication leading up to it was difficult. Dr. Berkley was initially scheduled to do the surgery due to a scheduling mix up. She provided some conflicting and alarming information not specific to the medical evidence present in my dog's particular case. She backed out suddenly on the day of surgery after seeing my dog. That shook me a bit, and I think the bedside manner and case review before phone calls could be improved. But ultimately, the care itself from Dr. Jones, Dr. Macdonald and Dr.Partin was top-notch. I was a little hesitant because the location is in west Oakland. We had always been to VCA in SL but I knew it would cost us an arm and leg. So I decided to call first to see what I needed to do to get my doggo seen. I spoke to Isela and she was very friendly and informative. She told me how to handle my pet and how to get there. Maps has you drive up to the building but you should actually park in their lot. Their lot is off Adeline, before the under pass. Go up to the gate and press the call button for them to let you in. I let Isela know my dog is reactive so waiting in the lobby was not ideal. Luckily there were rooms available for my husband and I to chill in before he got seen. The staff is super friendly and told us the wait would be long. Although there weren't many people that night, they had some animals with bigger emergencies and surgeries were happening. Totally understandable, this is an ER. We were taken to a room to wait and a vet assistant was right behind us ready to take vitals and notes on what happened. My doggo was in good spirits but I could tell he was a little anxious. We were told that there would be a 4-6 hour wait for a vet to see him and sure enough by the 4th hour our pup was taken to the back to get seen. After they took him back, finance came and let us know what the plan was and the cost. Look, if you can't plan for these emergencies for your pet, please don't be surprised with the cost. I will say VCA would've probably been more expensive but that didn't matter. What mattered to me was my dog and his care. Financial did say we had to pay the full amount and then we'd be refunded if some things weren't needed. She also told us that the doc will be in soon to explain what was next. Dr Black was the attending vet this night and she is the sweetest. She had no judgement and told me why some things were maybe needed and why they charged as precaution. It's all good, just a long as my boy gets better. She did explain what procedure she was going to do, as well as recovery and possible recovery symptoms. We were then told we could go home and they'd call us once the procedure was done. It had been about 5.5 hours since we were there and we were tired. After another 4 hours, almost reaching midnight, we were told my pup was ready. My husband and I drove back and even took my son who was so anxious about his "brother." We've had my dog since he was 4 months old, so yes he's my son's brother. Staff was talking to my son about all things marvel and that really helped put him at ease. We were then given instructions and medication and sent home. Service was amazing and I highly recommend OakVet for your emergency needs. I will be donating to them soon!
