Long belated review. We used to have a Pekingese named Bobo that was super grouchy with groomers. Honestly, I think the groomers we used before Under One Woof may have been too rough when grooming him so I am so glad Under One Woof is here. I believe Seiji was the first to be able to groom him and I remember he kissed our dog the moment they met. Then, Naomi took over his grooming. She did phenomenal with him and he loved her so much. After our dearest Bobo passed, we waited years before getting another dog. Now, we have our baby Remy. I requested for Naomi because she is the only one we trust and because we know she does such a wonderful job. Now, Naomi takes care of Remy. My mom does have specific requests for shorter cut and Naomi understands and executes the request so well. I asked for pictures and they sent it to me. So cute. We brought our dog to this groomer for a routine appointment, and sadly, it turned into a painful experience for her. The groomer improperly expressed her anal glands, which led to an abscess and a serious infection. We had to take her to the vet immediately, and she needed treatment and medication to recover. What's even more upsetting is that when we reached out to let them know what happened and asked them to take responsibility -- all we asked was for them to cover the vet bill -- they completely denied any involvement and refused to help. No apology, no accountability. We're heartbroken that our dog had to go through this, and frustrated by the lack of care or professionalism shown by this business. Pet owners should be able to trust the people they leave their animals with -- we certainly won't be returning, and we hope others think twice before bringing their pets here. read more

He is so friendly, has such a good personality, is an entire vibe, and is the ultimate people person. He's also so accommodating with any last-minute requests I might have and always goes the extra mile. I always look forward to having the best chats with him. The entire staff here are so well-skilled when it comes to grooming, they always have my baby girl Daisy looking so pretty once her session is done. Daisy has never had a bad grooming session the many times she has come here. With the many requests that I have had and photos I've shown of specific cuts, they have executed it past my expectations. I visited this place, approximately two years ago. I had my dog's fur trimmed. I have been a bit put off by the customer service aspect of this place, but it has not been overly terrible. But just noticeable. I picked up my dog, and read some notes on the form they give us. I was actually VERY SURPRISED, because they had written several paragraphs about how "difficult" my dog had been. I have only owned one dog in my life, but went out of my way to get a dog that is well behaved, and didn't not have mental or "temperamental" issues. My past neighbors have had dogs like this. I didn't want to be one. I am happy that he's been well behaved since we owned him. When I got those notes, I was curious about it and I thought, isn't a dog place supposed to be more well equipped to handle rough dogs? And woudn't only the least well behaved dog have notes written up? In other words, my dog wouldn't be in that category? I complained about this, in a nice way, and then I got a call from the owner (I believe) about a day later. They were super cool on the phone. But, I made a mental note, that that wasn't very logical. I was not super pleased with that transaction, so only three stars. read more

First time getting our new rescue, Eloise aka "Ellie" and official groom session. I did a pre-visit to ask all the doggo mama questions including how do you support animals while they wait for their owners to pick them up, do you muzzle to get the grooming done, do they get a walk, water, and snacks while they wait for their turn to get groomed, etc. All the responses were great! I definitely did my research on multiple groomers before deciding on my top few, including Under One Woof. Since Ellie was on the smaller side less than 25lbs, they allowed her to wait in this smaller play pen with other small dogs in between her bath and grooming appointment including while they waited for me to come pick her up which I loved. No caging per my request. I also did thorough research on the groomers at this location: read their bios on the website and google searched further to make sure there weren't any documented bad reviews online. I selected the top groomers I would feel comfortable pampering our baby and we got scheduled with Hiromi. She specializes in the Teddy Bear cut, which we wanted. Ellie came back to use looking clean, fluffed, sparkling, and pampered after her spa day with Hiromi. She even got a doggie report card for how the session went. I did forewarn them that she is a rescue and we are unsure of her reaction to being groomed by strangers. We definitely brush her fur and teeth daily at home with occasional baths but it can be a different experience for puppos when it's someone they don't trust yet. I made sure to pack her favorite liver treats to get her to cooperate but I knew she'd be scared and anxious regardless after hearing pups barking to get out. Overall, they said she had some shivering, anxiety, and nervousness but didn't bite or show signs of aggression so they knew she was just scared but not in any pain. The entire session took about less than 2 hours since they did ease her into the process. Hiromi not only delivered on the cut but also gave her a nice sky blue polka dot bow to match her collar and rope leash which was darling. I only deducted a star because after a few days of being home and brushing her we noticed that Ellie's ears were trimmed lopsided, same with her chin. We didn't complain but definitely something to mention to them next time we take her. I was happy to not see any aftermath of blood cuts or pain she experienced post-grooming based on lots of generalized reviews out there about most dog groomers on Reddit, YouTube etc. she was a very happy girl coming home and throughout the month so I knew she was okay. My pup Barnaby LOVES coming to daycare at Under One Woof! We've tried other daycares but this place just feels like home and the crew there ...family. Vince, Luzmery and Naomi - Barnaby is a lucky guy to have so much love and care from y'all. I honestly feel so secure and trust your team so much that when I drop him off, I have zero guilt leaving him. Also, he obviously loves it there cause he doesn't even look back at me and just runs to the play room. Kind of rude of him actually but that's my guy! They watch your dog via pup cam and constantly have someone looking in. - Super Clean - We get puppy cam access too and I see them mopping and cleaning up all day long. - Lots of Attention -The staff will come in, spend time and actually play with your dog. - Care and Attentive - They've called me about things they've notice in my pup like red eyes or ear issues - things that are sometimes so slight. I really appreciate this level of attention. The staff really cares about your dog and their health and it shows. It's like having a second family watching out. - One Stop Shop- Barney gets his nails clipped here and they do a great job every time. We bring our Maltipoo here to get groomed by Hiromi. She is highly skilled and we love that she uses a Japanese grooming style. Our dog always looks fantastic when she leaves! Sadly, her tail had been docked before we adopted her, but Hiromi always manages to make the stump look cute and fluffy. Everyone that we've interacted with here is friendly. The front desk staff, in particular, always seem cheerful. I really appreciate that "Under One Woof" prioritizes health and safety and only accepts dogs that are up to date on their vaccinations. We love Under One Woof! Vince who runs the check-in is so sweet and attentive.We have a shih tzu who we have been taking her here after a bad experience at Petco, about a year now. Lumi always comes back fresh and clean, and if you notice anything you want touched up you can bring your pup back within 7 days- it's quick and easy. It's hard to find a groomer you trust with your pet, we have found the groomer we like (Yikoko, not sure if that is how you spell it ) she is kind, gentle, and is good with Lumi. This is the fifth place I've taken my dog to... She's a Shih Tzu and I want her to look perfect all the time. In the other places, there was always something wrong, either her face looked good but not the rest or viceversa. I follow Naomi, one of the groomers here on Instagram and I saw that she does grooming for competitions so when I realized she works in Alameda, I had to try her! I made my appointment and drove all the way there hoping to find a place to come back to. They called me in the morning to let me know that I could come in earlier that morning. I did so. The place is really big and there are lots of doggies around. I filled out some paperwork and showed them the proof of vaccination. I told them about the Instagram video and they asked me if I wanted to have Naomi cut Sophie's hair. That was perfect. I'm really demanding when it comes to my baby's hair so I let her know all my preferences and I gave her exact instructions. I knew already that I was leaving my fur baby in good hands, so I just went to grab some food. Afterwards I remembered that I forgot to tell her one thing, so I walked back in and she had already done the exact thing that I wanted, so thanks for that! She let me know that my dog was going to be ready in 10 minutes, which is waaaaaaaaaaaaay less time than expected. It was so quick... So I just waited outside and I was able to pick up my sweetie. Not only did Hiromi do a great job on his haircut, but the customer service provided by each staff member was great. Something strange has been going on here for about a year. If I didn't know better I'd say there are new owners. It feels that different. We had been every 6 week clients for over 17 years. In the past year nearly every employee we knew left. The experience had become disorganized, the grooming not nearly as on point, and the customer service was really lacking. Mistakenly I referred my mother here and her dog was cut. She was not upset it happened but rather that first they denied it and then made excuses for it. He's since has several vet appointments to deal with ongoing infections. I wish I'd never suggested she take him here. We've found a new groomer. read more

There are so many great things to share and recognize about this daycare. I've been bringing my dog here since he was 4 months old, he is not 1yr old. While it is a short period of time, I can say that I've experience nothing but exceptional and happy service from Under One Woof! I've tried both their grooming and daycare services. Their building both entrance and play area is REALLY REALLY CLEAN, shiny floors and no dust or doggy accidents around. It also smells really refreshing too, you would not think you're in a dog daycare! Grooming - I've used Trisha for the last couple of times Bentley got groomed. She does a wonderful job and even gives Bentley a cute little bandana to take home! The groomers really take their time and pay close attention to detail. Before dropping off your dog, you get to chat 1-on-1 with the groomers to tailor your dog's hairstyle to your liking :) Daycare - First off, they have a live webcam, which is great because you can check on your dog whenever they are there! What I like most about their daycare is that they only take a certain number of dogs per day, I believe it's 20-30? They are a small facility, but personally for me, having a manageable number of dogs is a great indicator for safety and welfare for your dog. I definitely do not want my dog to be overly stimulated and overwhelmed. There are people who give your dog an assessment for personality and group behaviors before they are accepted, you have the option of leaving them with daycare that day if they pass. My dog loves it here every time. They also give 1-on-1 attention to dogs throughout the day for some human affection - all at no extra cost! Customer service - The staff here is great!!! Especially Stephanie, I've dealt with her probably the most. They are very patient, answers all questions and their attitude and manner is just beyond exceptional. The staff really do a great job at making their customers feel comfortable and welcome when either visiting the facility or dropping/picking up their dogs. The rates here are really reasonable, can't complain. There has been one or two incidents where I was late for my half day daycare pick up, the front desk staff told me not to worry about it and continued to charge me for half day and not full day!!! I love them, they definitely understand the concept of keeping a great business and generating satisfied customers! I've brought my cat to have a full grooming and he love it here. It seems like the staff knows exactly how to treat cats despite the attitudes they may give. My cat are usually not the easiest to interact with when it comes to strangers but they know exactly what needs to be done to make cats feel comfortable. This is the only place I will take my dog for grooming and especially boarding! Boarding: the dogs have to be tested in and must be spayed/neutered, so something for me to not have to stress about. Also the dogs get to roam free all the time and are not stuck in a kennel. Between certain times you can watch the dogs and so I tend to watch to see how my dog is doing so I dont have to call in every day to check on my baby. Grooming: no complaints or problems. I have been taking my dogs here since 2015, a lot has changed. They require proof of a bordetella vaccination with each dog, annually. My former 14 year old pug (even though he was vaccinated) came home with the kennel cough. We lost him in 2019. Now it's 2021 and I decided to try them again with my brussels griffon (also vaccinated). She is a rough coat and requires a lot of grooming. From what I can tell, either the groomer was new, not experienced with this kind of dog or perhaps did not have enough time. Her hair in some places was trimmed uneven and forgotten in other places. But, the haircut was shorter after our visit. She too came home with this kennel cough. Not sure what is going on in this facility. This cannot be a coincidence? I have not returned and am still looking for a permanent groomer for her. I have had dogs for the past 30+ years and do not think my expectations unreasonable, the prices I pay should speak for the services that are rendered, right? read more

The owner, and his entire staff is so friendly, kind and clearly animal lovers. The owner himself isn't just a kind soul and has a clear love for dogs but also was so excited to show my toddler the dogs behind the doggy gate to your right when you're checking out. I don't know how they did it but they took my very anxious, nervous previously stray dog and gave him a beautiful cut. While I did have him sedated, he has always been so incredibly difficult for us to cut his hair. Even while sedated in the past, it was an absolute struggle to even let him see scissors or a shaving tool. We've had him for 3 months and this is the first time I've ever seen his beautiful face without all of the hair covering his face. He's adorable!!! I find it funny that the reviews for this place is either black... or white. Nothing in the middle.. so here I am! I'm usually not a one-star giver anyway unless the experience was really bad.. well it was actually, but it was kind of handled well. Quality if my dog's cut is a 4 out of 5. We were really happy with it and the entire package for him wasn't too bad (~$60). The front office needs improvement. Yes, appointments fill up quick like every other place you get appointments in. Not a major issue for me.. just request for them to call you if they have anything sooner available. Since it was our dog's first time getting a haircut, I feel like they didn't prepare us well for the shots he still needed. They supposedly have it listed on their website, but you have to click around for it and from what I remember, they transitioned websites from basic to complicated. Hahaha. All the communication was via e-mail. We never got the new patient forms, reminders for our appointment, or any required vaccinations or documents we needed to bring. So, if you're new pet owners-- just take note if that. They also sometimes forget to respond, which can be frustrating (I checked my junk mail/search bar a few times and never got any messages whenever they said they sent me one). The office manager handled our situation well with the vaccination issues. However, since we booked his service during the holidays, not many places were open to get the required vaccinations (we ended up going to Pet Food Express).. and the vet we go to also wasn't open to communicate with them. Since it seems like they have an issue with scheduling, I feel like the biggest area of improvement would really just be the front office end of it. Maybe try getting an electronic scheduling system?
