Pepper now. A totally happy and healthy normal cat. He may have one eye, but can track a fly better than most.
    Emma R.

I LOVE Dr B and Maris!! My family has been taking our four legged members to Dr B since the mid 1970's!! Yup our records are on file index cards and paper, WAY before computers. I can't say enough good things about this caring duo! Dr B and Maris always greet us by name and with a smile. They ask about the family, my Grandparents, and talk about the "good old days" when I would come in as a child with the dogs and cats from my youth. So when it was time to take my own little fur baby to a Vet, there was only 1 place for me to go. My poor little Pepper started out as a stray feral who had a really bad eye infection, and the Dr was honest from the start. He let me know that he would try to help the kitten, but that the infection may be too bad. Fast forward a few days and sure enough the eye couldn't be saved, but the kitten's life was. Now I have a happy, healthy and totally rambunctious kitten that is fast approaching 1 year old. I am so grateful for the Drs help, but mostly for his honesty and integrity. After 3 generations and countless pets, this is the only Vet that I will ever take my pets to! The compassion and genuine love for animals and their owners that Dr B and Maris have is truly refreshing and heartwarming.

    Poor Lily needed stitches.

I had to take our dog Lily to the vet because she sustained a pretty serious facial injury. Thankfully, the vet was able to fit us in immediately. When I arrived, I was told the former vet, Dr. B had retired and sold the practice. I was a little saddened by that news, however, the new receptionist was very sweet and I could tell she was an animal lover... Her demeanor with our dog made us feel very comfortable. The two new owners of the veterinary clinic (Dr. J Virk DVM and Dr. K Dosanjh) were both very pleasant and professional. After examining Lily, initially, the estimate we were given was higher than we had expected, but they worked with us and were very accommodating. I ended up leaving my dog there to get treated. When we picked her up a few hours later, we saw she needed quite a lot of stitches. The damage she had sustained was more than we could see on the surface. The loving thing was that the vets did more treatment on her then we had paid for. I believe they did it because they seem to have a genuine love for animals. Going to the vet is very pricey, but I don't think their practice is all about the money... So I will continue to bring my animals to them. Thank you Blue Cross Veterinary Clinic for the love you showed to Lily.

My cat had been vomiting for three days and hadn't eaten anything, so I rushed him to a nearby clinic. Since I had to wait more than five hours to see an emergency Vet clinic, so I called Blue Cross to find out how long the wait would be and he told me I could bring it in immediately. So I brought my cat in for a check-up. When I arrived at the door, this clinic made me feel very risqué. The building at the entrance and the very worn-out doorbell made me think that this clinic was not a good one, but with my cat being sick I didn't care that much. When I arrived I was the only guest so I was told to fill out the information /form since I was a new guest. I waited for about 20 minutes and the doctor came in. He asked me what was wrong with my cat, and I explained the process in detail because I thought my cat was having a hairball issue, so he didn't have an appetite and started vomiting. But after the doctor examined my cat, he said it was probably a hairball issue, then he immediately asked for a blood test and a urine test for my cat. When he tested my cat for checking he has a fever or not, I saw that the temperature next to my cat was not sterilized, and he still tested my cat directly. The conclusion he gave was to give my cat antibiotics and an anti-nausea shot. But I didn't understand why he gave the antibiotics at that time, because the results of the blood test didn't come out, so I couldn't conclude any results before giving the drug to my cat, which I thought this doctor without medical rules. Also, after I brought my cat home, his antiemetic injection did not work, which is hard to believe. Just a few tests, the total cost was over $700.With the ugliness of human nature, the money-hungry doctor, and his inability to understand how to treat pets, I beg you to close this vet clinic!! At the same time, the cat was taken for a blood test and a urine test. I could clearly hear my cat's miserable screams, although I understand that cats and humans are different. I can only hear the sound, but you said to me: cats do not like this, that's why he made a miserable scream. The funny thing is, I have no idea what miserable behavior you actually did to my cat, and you make me hate you disgusting doctor!!! It cost over $700 and didn't help my cat at all. So the next day I immediately took the cat to the emergency hospital and I will never trust this shit clinic again! If you still treat other animals this way, trust me! I will absolutely report you! !!!

And best of all, they don't force you to do a million unnecessary and expensive things. They understand what our dog needs, what's realistic given his age, and what will give him the best outcome. Previous vets ignored what we told them, and instead demanded a million exams and tests that aways cost a ton. Good Samaritan listens to you, and if they can help your pet without charging you an arm and a leg, they do so without hesitation. A+ all the way around.

Our previous experience with Good Samaritan were when we had our previous two labmuttmixes, Kona…read moreand Chuka. Dr. Doe, Dr. Ekloff and a couple of other vets whose names I no longer remember, took care of our "kids". After they both passed, we decided not to have any more dogs as we were heading toward retirement and more travel. Then in late 2023, Mochi, a 3-year-old purebred Shiba Inu needed a temporary home. We knew her and her humans and brought her home to stay with us for a couple of weeks. When we realized that she was going to need a new forever home, we had to decide whether to give her up to another family or keep her for ourselves. Sentimentality once again beat out common sense. So, we changed her name, re-registered her existing chip, bought pet insurance and looked into a new vet. In order to do our due diligence, we checked yelp ratings and then called around. Many offices, including Good Samaritan, were crushed by volume during the COVID-19 epidemic and were not accepting new patients. A computer check showed that we were still listed in their computers even though at least 15 years had passed. Because of the past patient relationship, Mochi was accepted as a patient. We managed to make a wellness check appointment with Dr. Doe, the owner, to establish baselines. The following month, we received a letter from Dr. Doe stating that he was retiring. Since then, we've been to the office a few times, for vaccine's, a nail trim and once when she had something sticking out of her b*tt. The staff and especially one vet tech were kind and helpful to us and our fur baby. On the last visit, we met another Vet who I had a great conversation with regarding food, diet and weight control. I'm sorry that I forgot her name, but she really spoke with enthusiasm and authority without trying to sell anything offered at the office. I knew that if she were the attending vet, we would be in good shape. We take very good care of our Princess. At the vet's suggestion, we took her off of Science Diet but Lamb and Rice as her main diet and switched to "fresh foods" from Ollie. She still gets a few bits of kibble sprinkled with her food and it's also used as a training tool. This past Monday, while on her evening walk, I noticed that her ear looked a little off. When we got home, I saw that most of the fur behind her right ear was gone as well 1/2 the fur from her left ear. There wasn't much we could do. We did have some hot spot spray and used it, but it didn't seem to make much difference. On Tuesday morning, we call Good Samaritan to schedule an appointment to have Mochi checked. We were told that they were booked up and the earliest available appointment was on July 31. Not 24 hours later, but 24 DAYS later. We were also told that we could be added to the waitlist should any appointments be cancelled and if we were really concerned, to take Mochi to an Emergency Veterinarian Hospital or try another vet. It leads to me wonder if day to day health is taking a backseat to scheduled wellness visits and vaccinations. One thing for sure, I see no reason to return to Good Samaritan.

I previously thought this was only an ER and did not know this existed. If your pet has a special condition, like Cushing's or Addison's, I highly recommend that you see Dr.Wang, in addition to your regular vet. My dog was diagnosed with Cushing's and nearly died from being overdosed on medication from our previous vet, who was not a specialist. Although our vet spoke as if he was knowledgeable and performed regular testing, we discovered he did not know how to treat this condition. Because of the overdose, my dog now has Addison's, but Dr. Wang brought my dog back from the brink of death, and her condition is now managed with a simple monthly shot from this office. When we first brought her in, we had no idea why she had gotten so ill. Dr. Wang reviewed her medical history in detail and was correct in her diagnosis, but ran some tests to confirm. The cost for a consultation was very reasonable. Along the way additional costs were reasonable and much less than expected. Dr. Wang was cost-conscious, which we appreciated because we had already spent so much when our dog became unexpectedly ill. Only necessary tests were performed, and we were able to purchase medications online to save costs and have shots administered by a vet tech to save exam fees. In addition, appointments are convenient, wait times have always been minimal and parking is easy and plentiful. Dr. Wang is extremely knowledgeable, communicative and personable. She is also very responsive via email. I have nothing but great things to say about her and this office and am so thankful she saved our dog's life. If your dog has a special medical condition I highly recommend that you see a specialist here, in addition to your regular vet. If we had known about this specialist when our dog was first diagnosed, it would have saved our dog months of being ill as well as saving us thousands of dollars.

I even took a partial day off work so I could drop my dog off first thing in the morning. I was surprised to learn that they only offer drop-off appointments, but I proceeded and went home to wait for their call. Several hours later, I finally heard from the doctor and was given two options: pay over $1,000 for the recommended vaccinations and services, or enroll in their monthly wellness program for around $700/yr, which would reduce or waive certain fees. By that point, I felt somewhat stuck--I had already taken time off work, my dog had been there all day, and I needed to move forward. I chose the monthly program because it seemed to be the less expensive option at the time. However, after doing more research afterward, I discovered significantly more affordable alternatives elsewhere--some costing less than 20% of what I paid. I now feel disappointed in myself for not looking into other options beforehand and feel that the experience overall was not what I expected. When I picked my dog up near closing time, I was left confused and frustrated about how such routine services turned into such an expensive and time-consuming visit. In my understanding, these were basic procedures that should generally be completed within a reasonable timeframe and at a reasonable cost.

I'm writing this review to share my deeply disappointing experience with Dr. Yoon at this clinic on…read moreDecember 10th and 11th, following an urgent medical situation with my mini dachshund, Maple -- I believed she had eaten a small hand towel. The day before visiting Gentle Care, Maple was seen at VEG Emergency Vet, where I paid $1,200 for her initial assessment. The ER vet advised that Maple would need one final X-ray the next morning to determine whether surgery was necessary, as she had already vomited and passed pieces of the towel she ingested. Their recommendation was clear, so I brought Maple to Gentle Care on December 10th expecting a simple follow-up and the final imaging. Instead, I encountered inconsistent communication, unclear diagnostic decisions, and fluctuating pricing that made an already stressful situation even harder--especially because I and my family were actively trying to pull together the funds for whatever treatment Maple might need. Accurate, stable estimates were essential so I could understand how to move forward and how my family could help cover the cost of her care. On December 10th, I arrived at 9:30 AM:     *    I was quoted $820 verbally for a full day of diagnostics, including an ultrasound and contrast X-rays.     *    I received no updates until I called at 3:00 PM and was told there was no information yet.     *    When I called again to confirm the cost, the total had increased to $1,100--a $280 increase I did not approve, with no added services beyond the original plan.     *    At pickup, instead of receiving the final X-ray the ER vet recommended, I was told I had to return the next morning before Dr. Yoon could determine whether surgery was necessary. This required me to call out of work at the last minute, which was stressful and disruptive. On December 11th, I returned for the final X-ray (provided at no charge) and paid an additional $360 for blood work and fluids.     *    After reviewing the images, Dr. Yoon presented two possible surgical options--endoscopic removal or direct surgery--but did not provide guidance on which option was best for Maple's condition.     *    I was given a verbal surgery estimate of $4,000.     *    When I asked for a written estimate so I could secure pre-approval from my pet insurance (PetsBest) and request a CareCredit limit increase, the printed estimate suddenly increased to $5,000, without any explanation. * Dr. Yoon also said the surgery could wait another day and that I would have to drive Maple to Danville to the other vets office he works with. The quote I received was from that hospital and not Gentle Care.     *    Dr. Yoon also told me he would only accept my insurance if I could get pre-approval on that estimate, which was not possible. All of this was incredibly difficult to navigate. My family and I were trying everything we could to ensure Maple received the care she needed--we were gathering funds, adjusting schedules, and making decisions in real time. The constant price changes and lack of clear direction made it feel nearly impossible to plan responsibly for her treatment. For context, before even arriving at Gentle Care, I had paid $1,200 at VEG ER. At Gentle Care, I then paid $1,100 on December 10th and another $360 on December 11th. Maple's care was never something I hesitated to pursue; we were simply trying to understand what the actual cost would be so we could pay for it. Given the ER vet's recommendation that Maple only needed a final X-ray--and considering she had already vomited and passed parts of the towel--I now seriously question whether an entire additional day of diagnostics was necessary. Ultimately, I took Maple to Noble Vet, where she received clear recommendations and had her foreign body surgery performed for $3,090.65. My family helped me cover the cost, and the experience there was transparent, supportive, and professional--everything I hoped for from the start. I believe the diagnostics performed at Gentle Care were excessive, delayed Maple's needed surgery, and resulted in inflated and inconsistent charges. I hope the clinic reviews the communication and pricing issues from December 10th and 11th so other pet owners don't face the same confusion during a medical emergency. UPDATE: We unfortunately had to put Maple to sleep on Dec. 14th after she became septic. After speaking with the vet at Noble Vet and VEG in San Ramon I believe the delay in surgery resulted in a more complex and risky surgery. I will be looking for another veterinarian for the remainder of my pets.

We rescue older dogs with special needs and here they are always taken care of specific to their needs. Can not think of going elsewhere.
