Our fur baby Trixy, a 4 year old Shih Tzu was seen last Wednesday Oct 22 at Doolittle Pet Hospital. I would like to thank the Vet Dr Usman Ghani and his team for the great experience. Trixy feels better the day after the treatment. They're very caring and we got same day appointment. She continuously improved and on the road to the best of health. Definitely recommend this Pet Hospital.

Lola.. again Dr. Usman is taking care of Lola.

After almost a year. I went to a new vet for Lola. It is still painful that I lost Showty. Looking back replaying the moments. I should have noticed the doctor wasn't really listening to me and had decided already the cause of the problems. Jorge should have stopped it. He saw me crying.

My cat, resting on my porch, was mauled by a shepard and his husky friend running loose. By the time I found him it was a Saturday when most Vet offices are closed. Tried to rush him to San Leandro Vet but they didn't have "the staff resources" (ie likely no Vet on duty). Doolittle Pet Hospital compassionately fit me in and gave my cat the immediate medical attention he needed. I've been a pet parent for over 30 years in this area. I've had experience with nearly a dozen Vets (San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Castro Valley, Oakland, Union City, and Berkeley). Doolittle provides appropriate care and services at the most affordable prices in this area. The doctor, vet tech and staff are friendly and caring, and do a thorough job. The place is small, but you can trust them to take care of your fur babies.

Zazu dressing up for Christmas I miss you love bug

07/24/25 Update: Response to Doolittle Pet Hospital teams reply Your response confirms exactly why I'm heartbroken and angry. You continue to blame me for not approving $1,500 worth of diagnostics instead of acknowledging that none of what you offered would have stabilized Zazu in the moment. The treatments you gave my cat -- a long‑acting steroid (Depo‑Medrol) and an antibiotic (Clavamox) -- take 24-72 hours to work. My cat died in less than 12 hours. Even if I had approved every single diagnostic you pushed for (bloodwork, radiographs, urinalysis), those results still wouldn't have been back in time to save him. I would have simply spent $1,500 for tests while my cat continued to decline without life‑saving intervention. You didn't prioritize oxygen, IV fluids, hospitalization, or any emergency stabilization -- the things that could have actually made a difference in the moment. You also didn't give me discharge instructions, written information on the medications, or any guidance on what to do if his condition worsened. I had to research the medication myself to even learn how long it would take to work. When I called, devastated after Zazu passed, the doctor was rude, dismissive, and talked over me, telling me to stop talking and that it "wasn't his fault" -- but mine for not paying for all the diagnostics. That is not compassion. That is deflection. This isn't about whether you offered tests. It's about the fact that you didn't treat an emergency like an emergency. My cat collapsed, was lethargic, cold, had pale gums, was wheezing, and had possibly seized. I told you I would pay for whatever was needed to keep him alive. You sent him home with medications that wouldn't help for days -- and no plan for keeping him stable. Your response proves my point: you care more about covering yourselves than taking accountability for failing to act with urgency. To read our full story My original review attached in pictures

i am beyond thankful for my experience at Doolittle Pet Hospital. I had found them after having a terrible experience in santa clara and from the moment i walked in i could tell this place truly cared about animals and their owners. They made sure to explain every step of the process with such transparency, which really put me at ease. it is so difficult to find a veterinary team that takes time to educate and answer all your questions a big shout out to Cynthia and Jorge for being so kind, professional and attentive, also Dr. Usman Ghani. i left feeling completely confident in the care Odie received and knowing their in great hands! :)

Very clean facility. Welcoming staff. You can tell they love animals

I love this place. As soon as you walk in, it's bright and clean. The staff is very friendly and everybody welcomes your pet as if it were their own. I can't say I like bringing my dog here only because I don't like it with my dogs not feeling good. But when she's not feeling good, this is the spot.

Expensive bill. Feels padded. $50 exam? She need toenail fixed $150 for sedation? $200+ for medications? $250 to trim it?

Close to $700 to have my dog's broken toenail clipped clean! My dog broke a toenail running through drift wood. The mail was half on/half off. I wasn't comfortable clipping it myself because the mail quick was exposed and bleeding. Other vets couldn't see her for weeks. Doolittle could see her same day. I arrived at the scheduled appointment time like most post-Covid vets, owners can't be part of the exam/care. They took her back and came out a short while later, told me the cost, said they would need to sedate her, and told me to come be in a few hours. I expected to next see my dog with a shaved leg (for sedation) and a bandaged paw. When I picked her up, she had no signs that she'd even been to. Pet hospital. She was alert (did they sedate her or just us a local). She had no bandage on her paw and her toenail looked trimmed/repaired. The bill was high. I have to wonder bow they can change that much without even needing to bandage the dog. I'll be looking for a different veterinarian.

I had a sick dog that hadn't eaten anything in 4 days, I looked to see if I could get an appointment for her to be seen at a local vet. One local vet had an opening that afternoon, Doolittle Pet Hospital so I booked a time and took my Bailey in. They took her to the back for an evaluation and came back with their treatment plan. Of course, there is testing that needs to be done, blood work and urine testing needed to be performed as well. I agreed to the treatment plan and was told that I would need to supply them with a urine sample. They provided me with a bottle and said they would call when they got the results of the blood work. Which they did not call, I had to call them. With samples to collect (My dog is a Yorkie) I watched a few YouTube videos, but after 2 days was not able to collect a sample. Bailey had still not eaten anything and was barely drinking any water. Concerned I took her back to Doolittle Pet Hospital where they were able to collect a urine sample and run the test. Test showed that her Kidney function was poor and needed to increase her water. Also, her Pancreas was out of the normal range and gave her antibiotics. I needed to change her diet to a low sodium diet and increase her water. The doctor kept telling me that she was with in a normal range on all of her other test result, and that they would give her a shot of Vitamin B to increase her appetite. Nothing was working and after 10 days of not eating I took her back to Doolittle hospital. It was the same diagnoses and treatment plan. She ended up passing away 4 days later. It was excruciating difficult to watch her suffer that way. The only condolence from the vet was sometimes dogs do not recover no matter what treatment we provide. I just thought that the treatment was very poor, I always needed to follow up with them and remind them of the treatment plan. They were going to try other medications that needed to be ordered, but they never did. It is if they really did not care. RIP

And best of all, they don't force you to do a million unnecessary and expensive things. They understand what our dog needs, what's realistic given his age, and what will give him the best outcome. Previous vets ignored what we told them, and instead demanded a million exams and tests that aways cost a ton. Dr. Doe, Dr. Ekloff and a couple of other vets whose names I no longer remember, took care of our "kids". After they both passed, we decided not to have any more dogs as we were heading toward retirement and more travel. Then in late 2023, Mochi, a 3-year-old purebred Shiba Inu needed a temporary home. We knew her and her humans and brought her home to stay with us for a couple of weeks. When we realized that she was going to need a new forever home, we had to decide whether to give her up to another family or keep her for ourselves. Sentimentality once again beat out common sense. So, we changed her name, re-registered her existing chip, bought pet insurance and looked into a new vet. In order to do our due diligence, we checked yelp ratings and then called around. Many offices, including Good Samaritan, were crushed by volume during the COVID-19 epidemic and were not accepting new patients. A computer check showed that we were still listed in their computers even though at least 15 years had passed. Because of the past patient relationship, Mochi was accepted as a patient. We managed to make a wellness check appointment with Dr. Doe, the owner, to establish baselines. The following month, we received a letter from Dr. Doe stating that he was retiring. Since then, we've been to the office a few times, for vaccine's, a nail trim and once when she had something sticking out of her b*tt. The staff and especially one vet tech were kind and helpful to us and our fur baby. On the last visit, we met another Vet who I had a great conversation with regarding food, diet and weight control. I'm sorry that I forgot her name, but she really spoke with enthusiasm and authority without trying to sell anything offered at the office. I knew that if she were the attending vet, we would be in good shape. We take very good care of our Princess. At the vet's suggestion, we took her off of Science Diet but Lamb and Rice as her main diet and switched to "fresh foods" from Ollie. She still gets a few bits of kibble sprinkled with her food and it's also used as a training tool. This past Monday, while on her evening walk, I noticed that her ear looked a little off. When we got home, I saw that most of the fur behind her right ear was gone as well 1/2 the fur from her left ear. There wasn't much we could do. We did have some hot spot spray and used it, but it didn't seem to make much difference. On Tuesday morning, we call Good Samaritan to schedule an appointment to have Mochi checked. We were told that they were booked up and the earliest available appointment was on July 31. Not 24 hours later, but 24 DAYS later. We were also told that we could be added to the waitlist should any appointments be cancelled and if we were really concerned, to take Mochi to an Emergency Veterinarian Hospital or try another vet. It leads to me wonder if day to day health is taking a backseat to scheduled wellness visits and vaccinations. One thing for sure, I see no reason to return to Good Samaritan.

I previously thought this was only an ER and did not know this existed. If your pet has a special condition, like Cushing's or Addison's, I highly recommend that you see Dr.Wang, in addition to your regular vet. My dog was diagnosed with Cushing's and nearly died from being overdosed on medication from our previous vet, who was not a specialist. Although our vet spoke as if he was knowledgeable and performed regular testing, we discovered he did not know how to treat this condition. Because of the overdose, my dog now has Addison's, but Dr. Wang brought my dog back from the brink of death, and her condition is now managed with a simple monthly shot from this office. When we first brought her in, we had no idea why she had gotten so ill. Dr. Wang reviewed her medical history in detail and was correct in her diagnosis, but ran some tests to confirm. The cost for a consultation was very reasonable. Along the way additional costs were reasonable and much less than expected. Dr. Wang was cost-conscious, which we appreciated because we had already spent so much when our dog became unexpectedly ill. Only necessary tests were performed, and we were able to purchase medications online to save costs and have shots administered by a vet tech to save exam fees. In addition, appointments are convenient, wait times have always been minimal and parking is easy and plentiful. Dr. Wang is extremely knowledgeable, communicative and personable. She is also very responsive via email. I have nothing but great things to say about her and this office and am so thankful she saved our dog's life. If your dog has a special medical condition I highly recommend that you see a specialist here, in addition to your regular vet. If we had known about this specialist when our dog was first diagnosed, it would have saved our dog months of being ill as well as saving us thousands of dollars.

I even took a partial day off work so I could drop my dog off first thing in the morning. I was surprised to learn that they only offer drop-off appointments, but I proceeded and went home to wait for their call. Several hours later, I finally heard from the doctor and was given two options: pay over $1,000 for the recommended vaccinations and services, or enroll in their monthly wellness program for around $700/yr, which would reduce or waive certain fees. By that point, I felt somewhat stuck--I had already taken time off work, my dog had been there all day, and I needed to move forward. I chose the monthly program because it seemed to be the less expensive option at the time. However, after doing more research afterward, I discovered significantly more affordable alternatives elsewhere--some costing less than 20% of what I paid. I now feel disappointed in myself for not looking into other options beforehand and feel that the experience overall was not what I expected. When I picked my dog up near closing time, I was left confused and frustrated about how such routine services turned into such an expensive and time-consuming visit. In my understanding, these were basic procedures that should generally be completed within a reasonable timeframe and at a reasonable cost.

The day before visiting Gentle Care, Maple was seen at VEG Emergency Vet, where I paid $1,200 for her initial assessment. The ER vet advised that Maple would need one final X-ray the next morning to determine whether surgery was necessary, as she had already vomited and passed pieces of the towel she ingested. Their recommendation was clear, so I brought Maple to Gentle Care on December 10th expecting a simple follow-up and the final imaging. Instead, I encountered inconsistent communication, unclear diagnostic decisions, and fluctuating pricing that made an already stressful situation even harder--especially because I and my family were actively trying to pull together the funds for whatever treatment Maple might need. Accurate, stable estimates were essential so I could understand how to move forward and how my family could help cover the cost of her care. On December 10th, I arrived at 9:30 AM:     *    I was quoted $820 verbally for a full day of diagnostics, including an ultrasound and contrast X-rays.     *    I received no updates until I called at 3:00 PM and was told there was no information yet.     *    When I called again to confirm the cost, the total had increased to $1,100--a $280 increase I did not approve, with no added services beyond the original plan.     *    At pickup, instead of receiving the final X-ray the ER vet recommended, I was told I had to return the next morning before Dr. Yoon could determine whether surgery was necessary. This required me to call out of work at the last minute, which was stressful and disruptive. On December 11th, I returned for the final X-ray (provided at no charge) and paid an additional $360 for blood work and fluids.     *    After reviewing the images, Dr. Yoon presented two possible surgical options--endoscopic removal or direct surgery--but did not provide guidance on which option was best for Maple's condition.     *    I was given a verbal surgery estimate of $4,000.     *    When I asked for a written estimate so I could secure pre-approval from my pet insurance (PetsBest) and request a CareCredit limit increase, the printed estimate suddenly increased to $5,000, without any explanation. * Dr. Yoon also said the surgery could wait another day and that I would have to drive Maple to Danville to the other vets office he works with. The quote I received was from that hospital and not Gentle Care.     *    Dr. Yoon also told me he would only accept my insurance if I could get pre-approval on that estimate, which was not possible. All of this was incredibly difficult to navigate. My family and I were trying everything we could to ensure Maple received the care she needed--we were gathering funds, adjusting schedules, and making decisions in real time. The constant price changes and lack of clear direction made it feel nearly impossible to plan responsibly for her treatment. For context, before even arriving at Gentle Care, I had paid $1,200 at VEG ER. At Gentle Care, I then paid $1,100 on December 10th and another $360 on December 11th. Maple's care was never something I hesitated to pursue; we were simply trying to understand what the actual cost would be so we could pay for it. Given the ER vet's recommendation that Maple only needed a final X-ray--and considering she had already vomited and passed parts of the towel--I now seriously question whether an entire additional day of diagnostics was necessary. Ultimately, I took Maple to Noble Vet, where she received clear recommendations and had her foreign body surgery performed for $3,090.65. My family helped me cover the cost, and the experience there was transparent, supportive, and professional--everything I hoped for from the start. I believe the diagnostics performed at Gentle Care were excessive, delayed Maple's needed surgery, and resulted in inflated and inconsistent charges. I hope the clinic reviews the communication and pricing issues from December 10th and 11th so other pet owners don't face the same confusion during a medical emergency. UPDATE: We unfortunately had to put Maple to sleep on Dec. 14th after she became septic. After speaking with the vet at Noble Vet and VEG in San Ramon I believe the delay in surgery resulted in a more complex and risky surgery. I will be looking for another veterinarian for the remainder of my pets.

Our husky has been having stomach issues, loss of appetite, and getting more lethargic. We took her to the emg room but they estimated an insanely large bill! We declined the treatment plan in hopes of our dog being able to be seen/treated at Arroyo but they're busy this week. However, Tina has been so great at looking out for the schedule and made a courtesy to reach out when there was a cancellation. With a newborn & going thru postpartum, she has been so helpful thru it all. I ultimately decided to go to another vet, and when they tried to request my pet's records from Canyon, they were told no records existed. When I called to follow up, I was told they had been given the wrong name. I then asked Jeannette to email the records before my appointment on Wednesday, and she said she would but the records were never sent. Overall, this experience was frustrating and unprofessional. I would strongly recommend avoiding Canyon Clinic.

We needed up going elsewhere but we requested our dogs records to be sent over to the new vet and it was requested dozens of times by me and once by our current vet and they still never sent them. Jeanette is awful at her organization. She blames the vet himself but I think it's both of them. They are so technologically behind other vets it's astonishing. It's like going to a vet in the 70s and they are truly disoriented by their own system. It'll be a downfall if not addressed. There are great vets in the Castro valley area like Eden Pet Hospital or redwood pet hospital. If you want your pets records done effectively, correctly and professionally then DO NOT GO HERE.
