For the surgery, Dr. Jones did an incredible job. She successfully removed everything--it was a best-case scenario, especially since it was a delicate surgery on my dog's face. Dr. Macdonald provided her opinions to the team and is extremely knowledgeable about mast cell tumors. She makes sure to let you know about ALL possible outcomes but always aims for the best possible scenario. That said, the communication leading up to it was difficult. Dr. Berkley was initially scheduled to do the surgery due to a scheduling mix up. She provided some conflicting and alarming information not specific to the medical evidence present in my dog's particular case. She backed out suddenly on the day of surgery after seeing my dog. That shook me a bit, and I think the bedside manner and case review before phone calls could be improved. But ultimately, the care itself from Dr. Jones, Dr. Macdonald and Dr.Partin was top-notch. I'd still give them five stars, because the surgical outcome and overall skill were outstanding and I'm grateful for their service every day.

They took great care of our sweet Bailey for the last few years of his life, but the shining star was how they showed up during his decline. Dr. Jones was incredibly attentive, patient, and kind as she walked us through her professional opinion and exhausted all options for our beloved cat. She validated my every fear and concern about deciding when it was time to let him go. When it came time for his last appointment, he was seen by Dr. Caraballo. We had not met her before, but the compassion and warmth she showed us made a world of a difference in a very sad day. The entire Grand Lake team went above and beyond to provide support to not only Bailey, but to his heartbroken moms during the last few days of his life. They even sent us a handwritten card signed by all the doctors who had met him, which was especially thoughtful and touched our hearts. Highly recommend Grand Lake for their high quality care and compassionate veterinary team.

Kind staff, but a frustrating and disorganized urgent care experience…read more Our visit took about 1.5 hours. Even though we completed intake over the phone, we were asked to fill out the same information again on paper, and we weren't seen until ~15 minutes after our scheduled time. We also spent a long time waiting due to a lepto test. We were initially told results could take up to 30 minutes and that the assistant would check with Dr. Holliday to see if we could leave and come back. About 20 minutes later, we were told we only needed to wait 10-15 minutes total--by then, we had already waited most of that time unnecessarily. Follow-up was the most frustrating part. The front desk was responsive through the online portal, but not helpful--they repeatedly said they would "leave a note for the doctor" or were "waiting for the doctor to finalize their notes." We later found out test results were available on Tuesday but weren't released to us until Thursday. For an urgent care visit, this delay felt unacceptable. We requested SOAP notes and lab results on Monday for insurance purposes and had to follow up multiple times to get documentation that should have been readily available. The medical care itself seemed thorough, but the administrative side was lacking. Given the cost (urgent care exam alone was $147), I expected a more efficient and timely process. Overall: kind staff, but poor follow-through and delayed communication. For urgent care, I expected a much greater sense of urgency.

They texted me the wrong appointment time and when I got there they told me my appointment was canceled. I was baffled because I confirmed the appointment that morning. They said they made a mistake and were understaffed, so they couldn't see me. I had to reschedule and come back a week later. The only reason why I agreed to even come back was because they offered a discount for new patient exam fee for the both of my dogs AFTER I asked. I came back today to get their ears checked for an infection. They said it would take 30-45mins but called me to pick them up 1 hour and 6mins later. Then they said their microscope BROKE so they couldn't determine if they had a bacterial/yeast infection. I still had to pay for their ear cleanings after this experience ($71 each). They said to come back a week later if their ears still smelled like they had a yeast infection. No, thanks. They also ignored my concerns when I asked about antibiotics for my senior dog's bad breath even though she had a dental procedure a few months ago. They said they would check her mouth in the back, but when I came to pick them up they never followed up. I didn't ask because at this point I was incredibly frustrated with the whole experience. I definitely will not be coming here again and do not care for a response from the clinic. Please check the other low star reviews. They seem to have issues with management, scheduling, admin turnover, and being understaffed. If you are okay with this treatment, then by all means take your pets here. Good luck.

I've also been referred for way more expensive procedures that I didn't think were necessary. Finally, we were referred to Dr. Richter. He listened to my dog's history, understood my thinking, told me it made sense, and told me he understood the pathway I wanted to take. For once, I wasn't automatically crazy or a "helicopter" pup parent. He really gets it. Dr. Richter had a very reasonable grasp on my dog's history and the reasons for his issues. I am so looking forward to continuing treatment with him in the coming months, focusing on the gut and on my dog's past mold exposure. I can't say enough about what it means to be truly heard and understood by a vet, and have them speak to you on a well-informed level. Dr. Richter is not only brilliant, he also has excellent people skills. Most vets try to talk down to me or put me in my place when I come with as much info as I do, and that gets me nowhere, just burning my bank account and morale. Thank you so much, Dr. Richter + clinic staff. You all make a huge difference in our lives and we could not be more grateful.

The cost of vet care has become difficult to afford especially after the pandemic and the care club has become cost prohibitive. The stress related to this is often exacerbated by VCA billing errors, wait times, and administrative errors. I was told I had paid in full for my cat's dental work, that I was overcharged and would receive a partial refund on my deposit. Later, I received a text link at 9:30PM asking for an additional $440 with no itemized bill explaining the charge. Instead of calling me to explain the error, I received a text message stating they forgot to add a charge. I received no follow up to my ask to speak with a manager over the phone. I had to ask that an itemized bill be sent to understand the charges. We're in extremely difficult economic times for most people - surprising your customers at 9:30PM with large bills explained only via text without the accountability of a phone call or an included itemized statement creates unnecessary stress. I just hope VCA can improve in this area to match the quality of their medical services.
