I really enjoy this Pet Food Express location! I've been to several others and this one has a better pet washing station than the one in Loehmann's Plaza and isn't a zoo like the giant location in Land Park. The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable here. They never hesitate to check stock for me on certain items or help me find what I am looking for. It's definitely a better service experience here than at a PetsMart. I also like how I can order food to be delivered free to my various dog fosters that help support the golden retriever rescue organization I volunteer with. That saves me time and I appreciate it. Bonus: Need discount dog/cat vaccinations? Every Saturday afternoon there's a mobile vet clinic that offers low cost services here. Pro tip: Buy the bundle of 3 pet washes and get one free, making it only $15/wash which includes the shampoo and frequently free samples of dog treats and extra coupons. No, it doesn't take 10 minutes for the water to heat up. Yes, the blow dry is cool air. So this was my first time at this store ( Citrus Heights ). What excellent consumer service! The associate that assisted me was named Flynn. I had numerous questions, and she took the time to clarify the differences in ingredients between two dog diets I was considering. And, of course, she fed my puppy some delicious snacks While I was standing around trying to make my decision. Thank you very much Flynn. Don't tourcher your pet by using their self serve dog wash! It's horrible! The water took 10 minutes to warm up, there was little to no soap, and it only blows cold air! I asked for help twice and was told that's how it is and most people bring their own soap. It cost $18 but live and learn. read more

This was my first visit to the Pet Food Express! It was short and SWEET! I ordered the Dog Food on-line and was just picking it up. I entered the store and was promptly greeted by a very nice young lady by the name of Bella! She was very friendly and happy and offered assistance. Hearing that I was there for a pick-up she went to the back to get my bag of food. Coming back she was accompanied by a very nice man by the name of Chach - who was carrying the aforementioned bag of food. We completed the transaction at the counter and he offered to carry the bag out to my car - which was very much appreciated. As we walked out to the car he asked about our dog and his name and we had a very pleasant brief conversation about mine and dogs in general! They have a WIDE Variety of pet supplies, food, treats and toys. They also have a dog washing area, where they supply EVERYTHING but the dog! The store was very clean and organized. She went out of her way to spend extra time discussing novel protein dry food options with me for my super sensitive dog, even gifting us a free bag of food when the food I wanted was not in stock. I'd never thought of trying an insect protein before but we're going to now! My doggo was recovering from surgery and Ann was her first human contact outside of mom and dad in ten days, so she made sure to love on her with extra attention too. But last Sunday we got a puppy and before we brought her into our house we wanted to make sure she was flea free and clean, so we made a stop at the Pet food express in citrus Heights. we were greeted by Ann who is an absolute angel from heaven. Start out by saying wow - this establishment is so welcoming! Immediately upon arrival I was greeted with smiles, hellos, and a welcome back. I found what I needed incredibly easy because the store was well organized and very clean. I came to find something that was "in stock" on the website, and what a relief when you come into store, and it is actually in stock :) I was lingering by the cbd dog treats trying to decide if I wanted to get a higher dose than what I normally get, and a staff member came up to me and cleverly asked if I was just restocking? Leaving the conversation open for me to ask if I needed help without being too pushy. I asked for advice, they immediately put me at ease, and helped me check out. We took our dog in to bathe her. On the positive side, the bathing area was relatively clean and there were plenty of towels. You could not control the temp of the water, however, so you might as well be outside with a hose. It took more than 5 minutes for the water to heat up and it wasn't consistent. You had no control of the temperature. There was no shampoo in the 4 out of 5 shampoo types we tried. It was just water and I wished I had brought shampoo with me. All this for $18! read more

I have always loved this store. Staff I have come to know by name and they know me. Steve and Ann are the best. They are full of knowledge and have helped me so much. There is one brand of kibble that the other local stores carry that I use that this store does not. I buy their specialty treats, harnesses, toppers, and my pup loves to go there. I go in weekly with my pup. I have a picky eater pup who I want to transition from puppy to adult food. Because of this I asked when purchasing a new kibble if I could return it if my pup did not like it. In the past I had returned a couple of toppers without a problem with a refund to card. They said yes. With a receipt. My pup refused to eat what I bought so yesterday I returned. The two staff who I didn't know refused to refund to my credit card. I think one man was a manager. I had to get a store credit. I didn't want that as they don't carry the food I currently am using and also, this is not what I was told. Made me mad and I left with my store gift card. I was going to buy treats but did not. The store is out of my way, and considering how much I have spent there, I will be making fewer trips. I went to another store and made a purchase of food as I know they refund without a store credit if needed. I will return in a month rather than weekly to purchase treats.
