Update: went for some humitas. Had one of the savory ones and a sweet one. What threw me off was that they used curling ribbon (like the kind for balloons) and that was quite surprising. It is NOT food safe. As a matter of fact its a major food hazard. A quick google search says: Curling ribbon is made from polypropylene plastic and treated with chemicals, plasticizers, and synthetic finishes. It is not food-safe. When exposed to boiling water and steam, the plastic breaks down and leaches toxic chemicals and heavy metals directly into the corn husks and masa. ​Polypropylene releases harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) when heated above safe thresholds. Inhaling or ingesting these off-gassing compounds presents unnecessary health risks. One of the humitas was tied with string but the curling ribbon was surprising. Unfortunately, this place has gone seriously downhill, and my recent visit was a huge disappointment. The cappuccino was served in a cup with a visible coffee stain from a previous drink, which immediately raised concerns about cleanliness. To make things worse, a sign fell on the floor near our table and no one bothered to pick it up even after our food was delivered. Once our food arrived, no one came back to check on us. My utensils accidentally fell to the ground, and since no one returned, I had no choice but to continue eating with just my knife. The bread was warmed but clearly not fresh hard as a rock. The food overall tasted old, like it had been prepared days earlier and reheated. Considering the prices are not cheap, this is unacceptable. The environment didn't help either. The staff attitude felt indifferent, and while there was one very kind gentleman working there, he was clearly overwhelmed by the crowd. The overall atmosphere was uncomfortable customers using loud and inappropriate language making it not a place I would feel comfortable sitting with my 14-year-old teen. What's ironic is that the dessert counter looks beautiful, full of tempting options, but after this experience, it makes me seriously question the quality and freshness of everything behind that display. A year ago, this was a place I would recommend with my eyes closed. Today, I hesitate to suggest it to anyone. With the current quality, service, and pricing, it feels like a waste of money. I originally found out about this spot through my girlfriend's mother, who has been a regular since it opened. My go to is the Lurin Breakfast, which comes with a chicken tamal, sweet potato fries, chicharron, fresh bread, and pickled red onions. You can eat everything separately, but I like to combine it all into a sandwich, it's absolutely delicious! It sure is a nice addition to the area, as you can get a variety of baked goods, empanadas and specials from Peru or similar to other Latin American goodies. I wanted an empanada and a sweet treat, so I ordered the chicken empanada (they are baked, which I like better than fried) and a pan de yema. As a Peruvian, I was excited about the new Peruvian bakery opening in Altamonte Springs. I bought Peruvian tamales and empanadas from the owner for years before she opened the bakery. I love having a Peruvian bakery close to home. If you are not familiar with Peruvian baked goods or breakfast, I recommend starting slow and sharing some of the items. Here you can find a variety of sweet and salty pastries and other baked goods. Remember that these are Peruvian styles, so empanadas and tamales will be different from other Latin American cultures. I ordered the Desayuno Lurin ( Lurin Breakfast) is a traditional breakfast with a tamal, sweet potatoes slices, pork ( chicharron), and fresh french bread. This is my absolute favorite and the first thing I order when I go back to Peru. The portion is large, so I recommend sharing. To enjoy this platter better, you need to cut the bread and fill it up with sweet potatoes, chicharron, and pickled onion. My second favorite is the empanadas, especially the beef and lomo saltado. In Peru, we squeeze a little bit of lime into our empanadas. That's my tip. There are also desserts including some with lucuma ( a fruit that doesn't grow here in the States). The flavor is hard to describe, but it is my favorite. It is good! If you want a whole Peruvian experience, order an Inca Kola or a chicha morada. The place is small, only a few tables available outside and a couple outside. I recommend ordering to go if you don't want to wait for a table. The space resembles a traditional neighborhood bakery in Peru where you only go to pick up. Peak days are on weekend mornings as everyone wants their Lurin Breakfast. Service is great. Everyone is super nice and friendly. Prices are reasonable too. There are Peruvian food items to purchase available too. read more

The food was good but a bit on the pricey side. It also took over 30 minutes to get our order and there was not enough room to eat inside or out. To be fair, there was a very large group outside that seemed to be pretty high maintenance. If the prices were more reasonable and they get their system down, I'll try again because the food is good. read more

They were both delicious I ordered the typical Desayuno Lurin and really enjoyed it! Staff was friendly, they were busy and my order took a little longer than I wanted... I recommend placing your order over the phone if you're not going to be dining in. If you're a dessert lover then you're in luck because they also have a huge variety of Peruvian desserts! I really like going to Peruanísima if I need a taste of home. Their chicharron sandwiches are BOGO on Tuesdays which is a great offer. I always get their butifarra sandwich cold, it tastes better that way. I wish they would give more sauce to eat it with the sandwich. I like to also get a chicken empanada, because the flavors are delicious. The restaurant inside is cute and has vibrant colors. The service is always nice and attentive. The empanadas might actually be the best I've ever had and they are huge. Be careful you will become addicted easily.

Food is good at this place but it's over priced. If you simply ask for an additional petite container of onions, they will charge you .50 for each one and do not even think of adding an additional bread. Be aware that the few pennies that people leave on a small container are not to share with anyone. The cashier will yell at you not to touch them because they are her "gratuities". If these are the gratuities for you, they are extremely poor. The ambiance is not good either. You have to seat outside with limited amount of tables or inside sweating because they frugal and are saving on the electric bill. Needless to say, I would think twice before going back. We asked for that extra 1 ounce of onion mix and they charge for that. When we needed .07 cents and reach out to the container with the pennies, the cashier Melissa yelled at us indicating that was "her MONEY". I am very disappointed with this place. read more
