    Pan de bono in bag

I try to stop by when I am in the area, to get pan de bono. It is good and a staple in Colombian culture. I have tried their quesitos, tres leches cake, buñuelos, huevos pericos and coffee. It has been a while since we had breakfast and it was okay. Desserts are a bit on the sweet side, which is okay if you want to get that sugar fix. Customer service has never been the greatest, since it depends as to who takes care of you. If you want good pan de bono, this is the place to get them.

This is the sister location to the one in Kissimmee. Opened last year, RicoPan Bakery cranks out some muy bueno baked treats. Made in-house with love every day, and you can tell! Pan de queso is always a nice GF staple, and the ladies assured me that no flour is used to make them. The cassava is a nice touch. If you're in the area - stop and check it out! (I'll have to grab a photo of the menu board next time!)

I'm going to be fair and say from the start that my review is solely based on wait time. The food here is as good as you're going to get for a Colombian bakery stateside. However, they really need to up the staff and up the production. Every time I come i ALWAYS have to wait...and not just a few minutes. In last visit i waited 30 minutes for all my order to come together. They never have enough of anything and they are losing money like crazy. Clients literally walk in and get turned away because they don't have empanadas and have to make them, they don't have pan de Bonos, etc...they would Definitely benefit from having a couple servers and more people taking orders at the counter. Here is the picture of the line at my latest visit.

My friend introduced me to this place to get some quesitos (small pastries filled with sweet cheese). Service was friendly and patient as I asked questions of every item. Venezuelan treats freshly made and delicious. We had the corn empanada filled with beef with dipping sauce. And my friend was right the quesitos were AMAZING. The space was warm, clean and welcoming. A definite must try. @kennaC thank you for the wonderful recommendation.

It has a light fluffy texture and is easier and lighter to eat! We tried a 4 mini sampler plate for $19 and were not disappointed. We got Twix, Mexican candy, strawberry cheesecake, and snow thaigher( thai tea). Our favorites were the Mexican candy and strawberry shortcake, we found the fruit flavors to be the most flavorful! The service was from the owners I believe, who were very kind and checked in on us to make sure we liked everything. We will be returning, possibly every time we go the river!

Overall, I did find it expensive for what you get, and I feel there is some criticism here they need to accept: #1 - What we were served looked nothing like the pictures from the first 2 years they were open, in which the desserts are about 60% flavored ice and 40% toppings. What we got was about 97% shaved ice and 3% toppings. (Also, no whipped cream on the polar affogato). #2 - There is a teeny tiny sign on the back wall that you can barely read that states that all orders have a 10% gratuity automatically included. This sign is NOT visible from the cash register, and is 8 get away in 14-16 pt font. Clearly they don't want customers to see it.. Additionally, their POS system is asking you to add gratuity, even though they're already secretly auto-charging you 10% gratuity. That is flat-out disgusting. There was very little labor/time involved. So on top of the high prices, with greatly reduced toppings, they are encouraging people to pay upwards of 30% gratuity? For $8 flavored ice ready in 3 minutes? To make it worse, I'm sure the people working were the owners. Proprietors shouldnt be accepting or soliciting ANY tips at all.

The service was okay, employees refused to speak English which is fine, thankfully I speak Spanish but I'm thinking about other clients who their only language is English. We ordered a cachapa, empanada, and burger. Everything came out at different times and the burger took almost 30 minutes. We were kind of in a rush, so a heads up about the burger would've been nice. They also ask for 20-25% tip which I think is too much considering we pick up after ourselves and get up to get our own napkins, utensils, sugars, etc. I work in the service industry and I only ask myself if they're getting paid below minimum wage. Obviously I still leave a tip because I appreciate what they do, it would just be greedy if the owners are paying their workers below minimum wage. Enough yapping, we ordered the cachapa with cheese, which came out cold and crumbly, it looked beautiful but the flavor was not there, I've tried many cachapas and by far this one was the least pleasant to eat. The burger didn't taste authentic at allll. It felt like more bread than anything. The empanada did not taste authentic at all, it was like the filling barely had any potatoes, it just felt like the flavors were not there at all. I will continue to order these items at my local Colombian restaurant, where they never fail. The best part of my visit was their latte, it was soooo good and made my day so much better. My son also got a reindeer cookie which he loved, it was beautiful. I cannot say I'll be back anytime soon, I'll definitely be open to trying them out again and seeing if maybe the experience will be better and not only about aesthetics or how pretty everything looks, but on flavor and authenticity.
