After some time for evaluation of the results, I've finally decided to write this review. The results? Perri-Aire gets the job done RIGHT, the FIRST time. My furnace has been acting up the past few years. I tried another company (which shall remain nameless, but I'm sure you can figure out) twice prior to Perri-Aire, getting mixed results. The first time was good (see my other review), while the next time was poor. The problem with this other company is that the service is touch-and-go. Since this other company is a large operation, they hire subcontractors, who widely vary in their skill, knowledge & experience level. The first time I used this other company, they sent an actual tech from their own company (who drove a van with the company logo). The second time I used this other company (which I will talk about next), they sent a subcontractor (who drove a plain white van). Granted, it was a busy and very cold winter night, and the company was probably swamped, but regardless. Now the ongoing problem with my furnace was the pressure switch, which kept turning the burners off. This other company's tech recommended that I replace the pressure switch, and also re-route some PVC piping. He did not have the part with him, so he said to call his company the next day to schedule a second visit to install the needed part. Needless to say, I was unimpressed with his customer service skills and doubtful of his technical knowledge in general. The whole thing seemed kinda shady. Of course I was charged for this visit, in which nothing was fixed. I was determined to find another company that would go the extra mile for the customer. Lo and behold I find Perri-Aire had gathered some good reviews on Yelp and decided to give them a shot. Now, the owner of the company, Perry, was the one who actually came out to service my furnace. I had some "technical difficulties" where I wasn't able to meet Perry at the designated appointment time. Let me tell you, Perri-Aire's customer service is excellent. The nice lady who takes the calls followed up with me several times regarding my missed appointment (which was my fault) and managed to reschedule another one a few hours later. Once Perry showed up, it didn't take him long to diagnose the problem with my furnace. It wasn't the pressure switch at all. There was a blockage in one of the tubes, which he cleared. This was something that the other tech never even checked for. I didn't need a new part whatsoever. Along with this, he identified several other issues and potential problems with my furnace (none immediate or urgent and most due to shoddy construction) and even tried to fix them. I was thoroughly impressed with the professionalism and expertise of Perri-Aire. The reason I took so long to write this review was to see how good Perri-Aire's diagnosis and fix was. Well, it's been 2 months since they fixed my furnace and it's still running like new. I've had the heat on, turned the A/C on (during an unseasonably warm week), and had to turn the heat back on again (thanks Chicago weather). I'm very happy with Perri-Aire's service and will be using them for any future furnace issues and recommending them to others. So here's the deal: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Although Perri-Aire may slightly be more expensive than other (larger) companies, they know their stuff and will not take you for a spin. Also note that they do have a first-time customer discount (-$40 at the time, which I took advantage of). They had ordered the part that was recommended, and had it ready on hand, which I ended up not needing. What other HVAC company has the owner doing tech service calls? Perri-Aire is a smaller company, and therefore better quality control/assurance, customer service...and they know their stuff. If you want to take a chance with subcontractors with questionable skills, this isn't the place. But if you want quality HVAC service done RIGHT the FIRST time, call Perri-Aire. read more
