This has to be the most overrated establishment in Schenectady. It amazes me what passes for good food these days. I stopped buying their bread years ago and have found Price Chopper Dough makes better bread baked in my toaster oven. More Perreca's : Once again what passes for good food in this town just kills me. I decided to give it one more chance this morning. A Sausage pepper and egg sandwich with a glass of orange juice is what I ordered. First it was not on the menu, followed by my sausage being left off the sandwich then burnt bread,and forgot to bring my juice and then questioned me when I requested it. Forgot this...they brought me the driest burnt piece of sausage they could find as a replacement for the sausage on my sandwich. Bill was $10.00. Bottom line: I have been trying different food here and am always disappointed. Many of you who give this a 5 star rating know very little if anything about good food and service. I'm pretty sure it's impossible to get anything that isn't delicious from this bakery. Two of my faves are the bread and the tomato pie.

We recently went to the restaurant for lunch. We have been there before and the antipasto salad and sandwiches were delicious. Unfortunately they have a new menu and no longer have antipasto salad on it or even pizza. It's mostly eggs, more like a breakfast menu. We ordered a frittata but it ended up being an omelet with a sprinkle of vegetable soup on top. Very disappointing. Also last time we ordered a whole pizza from the bakery it appeared to have been made a day or two before. Sauce on top was dried out and cracked, very stale. Not what it use to be. read more

Incredible food! Went there for the first time today. The cupcake was the best I've ever had, hands down. The bread is also amazing. It's fresh and tasty. I was taken back today. I ordered a full pizza as requested from my teenage daughter to take with her to a friends lake house for the weekend. I grew up eating pereccas everything, of course they have the best bread BUT $30 for a whole pizza that literally is just dough and sauce was a little sprinkle of Parmesan cheese. The pizza is terrible I don't know why people would go out of their way to eat this doughy, thick, dry so called pizza. I think them charging $30 for the pizza that cost them probably two is highway robbery and a real slap in the face to us locals. Never again. Do yourself a favor and walk across the street and get the better pizza from civitellos. read more

Perreca's bread is honestly the best bread I have ever had. I haven't been to Italy but I have been to France a few times and they have some great bread, obviously. I get excited every time I go home to visit and my mom is cooking Italian because I know we will have Perrecas. Most of the time she will buy a couple of loaves and freeze them- and the bread is still phenomenal. Literally anyone who finds themselves in Schenectady needs to go to Perreca's and have this bread. I have only eaten at the relatively new restaurant section here twice, once I had a breakfast sandwich and once I had a personal pizza. Both awesome. I'm sure anything else produced by their kitchen/bakery is great. read more

75 miles from home, I stopped for a cup of coffee at the bakery. I also grabbed a sfogliatella to take home. I had never heard of this Italian pastry before. Anyhow, when I got home and tried it, I deeply regretted that I had bought only one and semi seriously contemplated making the 150 mile round trip again to get another. Where to begin....the BREAD is awesome!! The deli selection of Italian imported meats and cheeses is excellent and the prices are super reasonable, the Italian pastries are delicious especially the vanilla cannoli's and their cupcakes are the size of your face... BUT what i just might love the most is the tomato pie! I've had it from several other Italian places and it just does not compare to Perreca's!!! I've been eating their outstanding specialities since i was a child and hope they stay open for many years to come, so one day my children can enjoy this authentic Italian bakery and all it has to offer. read more

I haven't been back to schenectady for about 15 years. I grew up in Schenectady and can say for a fact that everytime I have italian bread i say i wish it was Perreca's. To this day I can't say anything bad about this place other than they aren't where I am. read more

This is a review of the bread only, as I haven't eaten here yet...sob. We've been enjoying Perreca's bread for years, and I want to comment about the issue of what to do if it goes stale. Just before it becomes solid and unsliceable, I slice it and leave it out to dry, then make crumbs in the food processor. It makes the best bread crumbs in the world. Sometimes I buy two loaves and deliberately dry one out for the crumbs! All you need if you have Perreca's bread is a little something...sauce, or meat, or some cheese, even just butter. Or dip it into something. It is the best, period. read more

Stopped in with a couple buddies for lunch got the tomato soup It was like pizza sauce watered down it was supposed to have rice in it It had no rice and they had no crackers. Not to mention the Waitress was a miserable. We won't be back. read more

When I was struggling, this great place gave out left over cupcakes to this organization. Seven years ago, I was just hanging around this place to take care of something. They lady there asked if I want to try a piece of a cupcake. I was hooked and spent the only twenty dollars I had on this bakery. Vanilla and red velvet cupcakes. The sandwiches are delicious. I moved out of Schenectady to be with family and friends and I have a good job now in New York City. I still think of this place, even in my sleep. I would make a special trip to visit one friend and this bakery. read more

their tomato pie is 2nd to none!!!! love all of their food and products but their bread is a must with any Italian meal.

I wish they would take off the plastic gloves they use to serve you food-before- they put their hands in the cash register!! Yuck!! The woman that waited on me kept the gloves on while she made me change and then went back to serving food... The bread is ok as long as you plan on eating it in one sitting. It gets stale and hard as a rock within minutes.. They should put some money into fixing the place up. It looks like it could use a good cleaning and remodel. They claim to have been in business for 89 years and the place probably hasn't been updated or cleaned well in that long!! read more

We were thrilled with Perreca's Catering when using them for a special 90th Birthday Celebration. All the food served was hot, delicious and their eggplant was the best ever and their sliced Italian bread. Their roasted potatoes, chicken marsala, ziti with the delicious meat sauce was awesome. Four of us went over to Perreca's for dinner one Friday evening and had their lasagna with the meat sauce, chicken parm was yum!!! We truly felt we were in an Italian Restaurant in Rome as our service was efficient not to mention our food was right from the kitchen and HOT. Thank you Perreca's - we love your food!! The Bakery part is always a pleasure to visit..but only once did I visit the restaurant addition. Ordered a pepper and egg sandwich to go.. it was just a fried egg with some peppers on top of bread too thick... I grew up with peppers and egg being cooked together in a scrambled mixture... There was hardly anyone else there and I sat right across from the counter and no one acknowledge me, so I got up and stood next to the register and asked for a menu and a cup of coffee... glad my order was "to go", I dont think I would have liked to stay for a meal.
