I visited La Perla Azul with friends sometime around October/November last year, and it was honestly such a beautiful experience. The space was so aesthetically pleasing and incredibly vibey -- very Instagram-worthy without feeling overdone. The décor had gorgeous details everywhere, with greenery and hanging elements from the ceiling, warm lighting, and a layout that felt open and roomy while still cozy. You could tell a lot of love and effort went into designing the place. The food was delicious, the music was great, and the overall atmosphere made it such a nice spot to relax, hang out, and take it all in. It was one of those places where everything just worked -- the lighting, the vibe, the energy. We recently drove by and saw that it has closed permanently, which honestly made me really sad. It felt like they truly tried to create something special for the community, and it showed in the details. Grateful we got to experience it while it was open. Came here to celebrate Mother's Day with my elderly Mexican mom who loves Mariachi music. I called a few Mexican restaurants to see if they were going to have live mariachi's on Mother's Day and Perla Azul said yes. I quickly made a reservation. They also had a limited special Mother's Day menu for the occasion. The mariachi music was scheduled from noon to 3pm. The food was excellent and the music was wonderful. My mom was so excited when one of the mariachi singers came to our table and sang to her. The hostess was giving moms one red rose as they were seated. The restaurant is super nice is perfect for special occasions and dates. Now to the negative. The restaurant imposed a 90-minute time limit from the time you sat down. However, service was super slow and we waited a long time to get our food and our time limit was wasted because we waited for so long. Granted the music was good but they didn't offer chips and salsa and you had to order those separately. Unfortunately, they were not on the menu so I assumed they were going to bring them. When I finally asked, our food arrived. Once the food arrived, we were pleased with the portions and flavor. My mom loved the rice which was different than the tomato based version. The beans were a bit bland and needed more salt. The enchiladas suizas were flavorful and packed with chicken. The servers did refill our drinks a few times but you could tell they were busy with the other large parties that day. Lastly, they imposed a preset tip for only 3 people. Typically, I've seen the set tip amount for groups of 6 or more and it disappointed me that they did this for our little family. I didn't argue with them since it was Mother's Day and my mom had a good time. Not sure if they do this on non-holiday meals. Just be forewarned about this practice. I do plan to come back on a different day to see if their service is slow and if they add in the tip regardless of service. read more

Sweet little gem in La Habra, CA! Celebrated my birthday today with 12 people, and we enjoyed our dining experience. Perla Azul is a Mexican steakhouse, seafood, and sports bar with free parking I'm impressed with their great food/drinks & outstanding service. Thanks, Kevin ;) The classy exterior and interior aesthetic of the restaurant is just amazing, and most importantly, it's very clean. Service was topnotch, and I was able to bring a cake (no fee), and they cut it for us. I took photos of most of the dishes we ordered (except the birria tacos & margarita flight), and happy to say that all of my guests were pleased. We ordered the sampler platter, enchilada suizas (chicken), combo perla (skirt steak & enchilada), salmon costena, seafood pasta, filete zarandeano, quesabirria tacos, fish tacos, ultimate fajita, margarita flight, and Oasis cocktail with an LED light cube inside (vodka, créme de cassis, mint syrup, lemon). Unfortunately, they didn't have a band playing tonight. I was told there would be a band playing when I called to book my reservation weeks ago. I was a bit disappointed at first, but since we enjoyed our dining experience at Perla Azul, it's enough to warrant a 5-star review. We came for my aunt's birthday! The restaurant is very pretty and I love the colors. I only left 3 stars because of the following reasons: The calamari was wonderfully crisp and delicious. However, I wish they had more creative dipping sauces. While I see the attempt in providing options, they dips fell short. One dip was a Chinese, chili dip (the kind we see in every Chinese restaurant and ethnic foods shelf.) Another was a mayonnaise mixed with possibly horseradish? But it mainly tasted like mayonnaise. The other was like a chipotle? I forget but it was orange. All three sauces seemed uninspired and like a quick attempt to seem upscale. There was no lemon, which is odd since that it usually a classic, calamari staple. I understand the attempt in the sauces!! But it just didn't work. The oysters were so...different! These oysters came with a mound, and I mean a MOUND, of pico de gallo. Diced, jalapeno, onion and tomato completely covered the oyster. I wasn't sure what to expect but I figured I would try! Oh gosh, it was not my best oyster experience. The pico de gallo had zero salt or seasoning. The fresh onion was so overpowering, it made my eyes water. I could barely taste the oyster. I also tried the queso fundido. That was very good. They made great queso fundido and chorizo taquitos. The Guacamole was fresh and really good. Nice, hearty avacados! The flautas were really tasty and perfectly crisp! Fresh oil makes the best, fried food =) My main dish was the Hidden Gem. It was a steak, with three jumbo, grilled shrimp and garlic, yucca fries. My steak was a little gristley, something I do not expect when the plate is around $40. Aside from being gristley and tough to chew, it was cooked well and flavorful. The jumbo shrimp were delicious. My yucca fries were interesting because some were cold and some were warm. I like garlic, but they were covered in excessive shaved, fresh garlic. It was totally overpowering and spicy. The yucca fries, after wiping off glunks of garlic, were actually great with a very nice texture. My aunt ordered the salmon with pineapple sauce on top. It was literally pineapple jam on top. It did not seem home made, at all. My aunt said it was way too sweet and did remind her of a pineapple jelly. I had a Cadillac margarita as my cocktail, which I did enjoy. I had to be honest about my review because I believe this is a relatively new restaurant and opened recently. It is a beautiful restaurant with great potential. However, the menu items need to be adjusted. This place is a bit expensive and I do not see people returning for oniony oysters, Chinese dipping sauce, chewy steak or overly garlicy, cold yucca fries. All the best to this restaurant! read more

Beautiful location, food is ok, not good or bad, service is average. Thr problem, the overhead music is too loud, thr mariachi is very loud. Please look at other restaurants around you, be creative, Frida's in Cerritos have all you can eat for $50,00 and the food selection is huge with a taco bar and freshly made tortillas, and the place is packed on the weekend, they have a mariachi that walks around singing. As I previous restaurant manager is would like to meet with the owners and give you guys a few ideas. I like the place and some of your staff is nice. read more

I want to try the steak next time. Came back for Sunday brunch on November 21st for the live band. I heard a lot about the menudo so I have to try it. Lots of flavor in the broth and the meat is tender, fall off the bone. Adding the onion and cilantro I can taste the sweetness of the onions. The food is GREAT here but the service is really off. There is one male waiter in particular who gives negative energy to the whole restaurant. He is toxic! My wife and I frequent this place on Tuesdays or Wednesdays for date night and always have to debate this place because of slow service. We drop off our daughter at Adagio dance, which is literally 2 doors down from this place (but quite often we prefer driving down to ChaCha's in Brea where the service is stellar) but luckily tonight, the bartender, who greeted us, was our waiter for the night, thankfully. But still.. the service was off. I have my own business and I believe in quality service, entirely. I am not in MY industry's business, I am in the PEOPLE business. Had so much fun here for my mom's birthday. We were a very big party about 19 and our server was super sweet and patient with all of us. They were very kid friendly and accommodating as well. I had their shrimp fajitas and they were very flavorful , not spicy and the shrimp tasted fresh. They have live performances and have a bar section with karaoke. Everyone loved it. I highly recommend. I noticed they have a private room as well, very cute inside. Loved the decor and friendly service. So, my husband passed away in January. Super Bowl was always a fun time for us. We always went to Super Bowl parties together. It only made sense to have a Super Bowl party for his Celebration of Life. From the moment I approached the restaurant about the idea, they were on board and extremely helpful from start to finish. Jose walked me through the process and was there the day of the celebration to make sure everything went flawlessly. The entire staff were responsive and on top of everything. I rented out the entire restaurant and they served a Mexican buffet while all the televisions blasted the game. Friends and family were impressed by the food and how beautiful the restaurant is. It was a fabulous way to celebrate my husband with about 225 of his friends and family laughing, telling stories, and enjoying memories. To begging with we waited like 20min, for our server to bring us chips & salsa we asked for a refill we never got it. the tables are to small for a party of 12 no elbow room we were all smash together like sardines. The tables was to small we keep packing up the dirty dishes on the table hoping the server will get the hint & picked them up. He did ended up picking them up only after he realize there was no room for our food. We order several plates that included tortillas he only brought out 2 tortilla warmers. We asked him for the rest and again he never brought them. We had to chase him down for refills. Bottom line your servers need to be more attentive to the customers needs. I do recommend this place. As always, Perla Azul welcomes us and provides us with excellent service, attention and food. We had been before for another birthday and this time we got to use the private room that is adjacent to the main dining area (I would suggest the private room for large family with kids). Our server, Kevin, was very helpful and kind. I called the restaurant ahead of time asking if I could drop off the cake a few hours before our reservation, and he said yes. Handing off the cake was no problem. Throughout the night, Kevin took great care of us. Food was exceptional; octopus always a great hit with the spicy sauce on the side. Drinks were a hit; if you're a fan of Mezcal, try the Mezcal Affair and Besame Mucho. Muy delicioso! In short, Perla Azul is very clean and nicely decorated (including the bathrooms which look updated) has a nice large dinning area with a private room for special occasions, they have an adjacent bar with live music, amazingly tasty food and drinks, and above all, friendly and helpful staff. read more
