Relevantly new, this winery was founded in 2005 and made wine at the local winery in Alameda at Rock Wall Wine Company. As we all know, Rock Wall grew business really quickly and Caria Wines had to find another home. Caria Wines was discovered by two close friends: Charlie and Dick. Dick supplied the grapes and Charlie, with his amazing wine-making skills came together to create their first bottle of the 2005 Sauvignon Blanc (my personal favorite). Now they are nestled in Richmond with beautiful views overlooking the Bay Bridge and views of San Francisco, what more could you ask for? Carica Wine focuses on Red Rhone's, however, since I am not a big red wino I decided to try there tasty Sauvignon Blanc, which is really tasty and one of their popular whites on the white wine side of things. They offer Wine tastings and tours at their new location which is at the Riggers Loft, on the edge of San Francisco Bay in Richmond's Shipyard District. They also offer a Caria Wine Club which gives you: 20 % discount for wine purchases, Free tasting flight of Carica wines at the Tasting Room, 4 shipments per year( February, May, September, and November -- each with 4 bottles selected by the Winemaker) and best of all? We called and they said it was supposed to be a temporary thing, but that it was lasting longer than they expected. I don't know why they haven't updated their hours on yelp or Google, but don't be fooled by it stating that it is open (both on Yelp and Google) because it most certainly is not. We would have loved to try their ciders and the food shown in the other reviews, but instead drove 45 minutes for no good reason.

Small family winery tucked into the hills near Martinez, and the wines held up better than I expected for a spot this close to home. The owner and winemaker greeted us right away and walked us through every pour and the family history behind the label. We did the 5-flight tasting, 12 dollars for 1-ounce pours off a long list of Zinfandels, Petite Sirah, Merlot, Carignan, and more. Here's the part worth knowing: the flight is limited on paper, but he let us re-taste and even poured things not on the list. The 2020 Petite Sirah Hillside and the estate Zinfandels stood out enough for us to take bottles home, and prices were fair. One tasting fee gets applied toward a two-bottle purchase, and it's 20 percent off six or more. Setup is casual and homey. A walk-up wine bar, a front patio with a couple of bistro tables and wine barrels, a single bathroom inside, and a back outdoor area with tables where they run live music when it's happening. The indoor tasting room is cluttered and lived-in, not polished, which honestly fit the vibe. Logistics: park along the road or in the dirt lot across the street, right next to a field of grapes.
