Relevantly new, this winery was founded in 2005 and made wine at the local winery in Alameda at Rock Wall Wine Company. As we all know, Rock Wall grew business really quickly and Caria Wines had to find another home. Caria Wines was discovered by two close friends: Charlie and Dick. Dick supplied the grapes and Charlie, with his amazing wine-making skills came together to create their first bottle of the 2005 Sauvignon Blanc (my personal favorite). Now they are nestled in Richmond with beautiful views overlooking the Bay Bridge and views of San Francisco, what more could you ask for? Carica Wine focuses on Red Rhone's, however, since I am not a big red wino I decided to try there tasty Sauvignon Blanc, which is really tasty and one of their popular whites on the white wine side of things. They offer Wine tastings and tours at their new location which is at the Riggers Loft, on the edge of San Francisco Bay in Richmond's Shipyard District. They also offer a Caria Wine Club which gives you: 20 % discount for wine purchases, Free tasting flight of Carica wines at the Tasting Room, 4 shipments per year( February, May, September, and November -- each with 4 bottles selected by the Winemaker) and best of all? It has a warm feeling, but plenty of natural light, a highly functional kitchen and most importantly, the friendliest, most helpful and most responsive event planning staff you can imagine. With all our questions answered, in the most positive manner, we booked the venue in January for our November 2020 event. Well, quite obviously and sadly, we didn't have the event in person. Rather than postpone the event, we decided to go forward and do it online. The request to cancel and get a full refund was met with kindness and no questions asked, we had our refund in days. Thanks to Araceli and the team at the Hillside Club, everything from planning our event, to not having our event, was handled expeditiously and with grace. Not only is the venue beautiful and spacious, but the organizer is super nice and accommodating. There are high ceilings, great audio, a nice stage, and lots of useful equipment. We pretty much didn't have to decorate at all on our end because when we got there, it was already beautifully adorned with holiday decorations and a huge Christmas tree! For such an amazing venue, it's amazing how inexpensive the total cost was! Aside from the venue itself, the planning involved to secure the venue and set everything up was made incredibly easy by the manager. She was very responsive by email and helpful in suggestions for what can be done with the event. She also owns a super cute doggo that's Instagram famous! All in all, great experience and couldn't ask for more.

I bought a bottle of a pinot rose which I drank all by myself because it's mine, mine, all mine! Muah hahahaha! So...anyway, when I moved from Berkeley to SF I decided to get rid of my empty wine bottles so I had to go through them and take note of what they were. When I stumbled upon this one and remembered how good it was I decided to go online and order a case to be delivered to my new residence. Well, it wasn't listed online so I called the number on the bottle and got Mr. Harrington on the phone. It turns out he lives about a block away from my new place. I made an appointment with him and met him at his warehouse. I sampled some pinot noir, got a chance to chat with him and bought myself a case of that rose (as well as a bottle of pinot). If you get a chance to try his wine...do it! You won't be disappointed. Talking to him, I could tell he is really passionate about wine. He loves his pinot noir and it really shows in the wine he makes. He didn't seem irritated in the slightest by my random inane questions about the wine making process. In fact, he seemed to really enjoy talking about it...which, as I've said, really shows when you sample his wine.

He only produces Pinot Noir. Each wine is from a single vineyards from various sites from the Anderson Valley down to Chalone. The open house offered tastings of current releases, library wines, the yet to be released 2007s and barrel samples of the 2008s. I was surprised by the large amount of wines that were being offered and it more than made up for the $15 charge to enter. (The $15 was applicable to any purchase though). I favored the Wiley from Anderson Valley. (They're already sold out of the Iund). My friend favored the Wild Horse from Napa. And, we each left with a bottle. The winery is not generally open to the public so sign up for his mailing list to stay informed.

We called and they said it was supposed to be a temporary thing, but that it was lasting longer than they expected. We would have loved to try their ciders and the food shown in the other reviews, but instead drove 45 minutes for no good reason.

At $12 a bottle I would have it with seafood on a regular basis. The 2005 Verve Columbia Valley Syrah was a very nice, complex wine made from grapes in Washington State. It was fruity but not overpowering. Richly flavored but not spicy or with too much tannin. Oh, and I was able to practice my french.

You can find anything from reasonably priced Bordeaux wines ($20-$25) to a Tannat from Uruguay and sparkling wines as well. It's pretty easy to pull up on the street and find parking and be in and out in 5-10 minutes. I really like that they have different types of wines you don't see at Safeway or wherever. It drives me crazy when I go to a wine shop and they have Duckhorn of something.. wtf? Logan is a really friendly and knowledgeable gentleman who is inviting and makes the wine purchasing really seamless and fun. It's a nice change from some of the snootiness you can get from other wine retail shops. Sometimes you just want a simple suggestion on a decent wine and get on your way. Next time you are needing a great wine at a reasonable price , do yourself a favor and swing by here. We need more places like this in the greater Bay Area.
