Never been inside this location, only the one that was in San Marcos or Oceanside by the beach. This one is in a business park in the vista/cbad area. Good news for me, its empty in the night! I was the only customer in there so I got great one on one service. The place was clean, and even though no one was in there all staff members were working and cleaning. Nice! They care! I got the Turkey with Avacado. I would of taken a picture of it but my dog came along and ate the top half right off, true story. I was mad, because I was hungry, and it was delicious! This is the best sub shop in California! The secret is the bread. The bread makes such a huge difference to the overall taste of an excellent sandwich. The generous portions of meat, cheese and toppings of your choice make each sandwich an event. When in California I always make it a point to come here. I really don't understand the hate for this location. Now my turn. I drive all around San Diego and North County fixing computers and I need my food to be mobile and good as I have no time for food usually, and I love a good sandwich. With that said this is absolutely my preferred Submarina to go to in all of San Diego. For the food prep hater's, whatever make your own food. For the price hater's, this location actually puts ingredients on a sandwich so you have something more than bread. Most Submarina's don't, and definitely stupid Subway. I'm hungry and I need a meal damit! For busy hater's, yeah it's a business area, go right at lunch time and it's going to be busy. Duh. Since deli's are all the rage in business parks, for a Submarina to be busy I think that says something. Every time I've been there I'm met with a good attitude, even tho I'm in a cranky bitch mood I get an awesome sandwich that I am only too happy to pay for because it's a proper meal. My go to is the 'California 12" half wheat and half white with everything but olives combo . Yes, it gets busy at lunch time, so does the Taco Bell and Jack. Oh, and there is Taco Bell and Jack in the Box in the same small mall. So the whole place is busy at lunch time. If you want a good sub and willing to pay for it go here. If your picky about your food being a certain way, go home and make it yourself. You only hold up the line with your wah wah order anyway. Great quality fresh 12" squaw bread with tuna,avocado ,lettuce ,tomato , small bag of chips and small fountain drink. If this sounds like something you would order , bring $19 and change, because that was the total. Pricing needs some work to be competitive. The bread is a little different, the toppings are the same, and the decor is the same as Sub-way. The only thing that sets the two sandwich shops apart are the prices. For the price difference in sandwiches, I will be taking my business elsewhere for the same product at a better value. read more

This is no longer a submarina, but still a sub shop. I work down the road and stop in often. The sandwiches are great and the people are nice, but they just got rid of their WIFI hotspot and they play church music through the restaurant. Now, I can deal without WIFI, but I don't go to a sandwich shop to listen to songs about someone's invisible friend. To me, that is becoming enough for me to avoid the place in the future. read more

It's not a bad place for a sandwich. Bread was fresh and had the tuna which can be hit or miss and it was on point. Our table also had a turkey sandwich and a meatball sandwich. Service was "super friendly", the staff was nice. Only set back was that for two six inch sandwiches, a nine inch sandwich, 3 bags of chips, 2 fountain drinks and a Gatorade it was $39! Stopped by perfect subs today because I found a coupon BOGO i got a BLT with Avo on sourdough toasted and a Cali on wheat. A lil too much mayo on both made my blt a lil soggy. Tomato did look soggy in the container they have. Fast & friendly service for sure ! My blt was alright my boyfriend said the cali was alright too. My wife and I work about 5-min away from this location and we typically stop in about once a week to pick up lunch. The (high) quality of the food is only over-shadowed by the exceptional service of the staff! The owner (Joshua) is always on-site when we have visited and sets the example for his employee's. Food is okay... good enough to satisfy an itch if you have a craving and can't make it up to Hungry Bear. The kids don't seem to follow their own listed recipes, which is annoying, so be vigilant to get what you want. Very dissapointed... I have been coming to this location for over 10 years; the staff is always friendly, the food quality is top-notch, and with my gluten allergy, this team has been great at providing me their sandwiches as a 'salad', for the same price. I visited the location on August 26, 2015, and ordered the California Sub, includes Turkey, Avocado, and Bacon, which was priced at $6.49. When the store owner rang my total, he charged me $9.21. When I challenged the price, the owner said "Due to the cost of vegetables, you have to pay this amount." Paying $3.00 just to have my sub turned into a salad was preposterous, and in my opinion, discriminatory. I would be happy to eat a sub if I wasn't allergic to the bread. None of the less, the owner 'did not back down', even after communicating my regular attendance, and pricing I was charged these past 10 years. What really struck me was the 'lack of customer service' that the owner exuded. Being in the customer service industry for over 20 years, I feel he could have easily accommodated my complaint, and clarified in the future the 'inflated pricing' of a product that isn't justified. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to this location, as this left such a bad mark / experience with me. Way to go, dude. read more

I really hate that I have to write this review because the owner was so incredibly nice, and his staff were extremely kind when I placed an order over the phone yesterday. However I got food poisoning yesterday from a turkey sub. One of my co workers got food poisoning from the turkey at Submarina a few months ago, but I figured it was maybe a fluke. Nope! No more than a hour after I ate my sub I felt sick, and the rest of the night was horrible. Next morning and I still have awful stomach pains. My other co worker got the Italian and I think he is fine, so maybe stay away from the turkey. read more

With that being said I HATE that I'm writing this review but Donnice R. at this location made going in to get a fast sandwich such an irritating experience that an hour and a half later I'm still mad. She was so damn rude to her coworkers I wanted to say something to her and now that I'm gone from there I wish I had. I'm seriously considering going back to this shop tomorrow with the hopes that she's just as rude to the guys she works with so I can call her out on it. Don't waste your money with this sad excuse of a business. My wife and I had promised my son a submarina sandwich cause he's been asking for about a week now. We got to this place with 15 mins left til close. They had already packed everything away and were quick to tell us that everything was already packed away and that they would have to get everything out again. The lady told us 3 times that everything was put up in less than 1 minute and then was shocked that we told her to not bother we would go elsewhere. The employees here only put forth about 50% effort. They are just going through the motions. i was extremelly unhappy. i ordered a salad which was small and of far inferior quality to any other submarina. i asked if the had any better lettuce and they just said they could mix some spinach in. i said ok. the employee took about 5 spinach leaves and set them on top. last i knew setting a couple leaves on top is not mixing. dont waste your time with this place. drive a little further and go to the submarina on sycamore or melrose in vista. they always always top notch. read more

Today was an errand day, so we wanted to to stop and grab a bite without fuss. Target was on our list, so we stopped at Submarina which is right there. I live close but have not tried this place, though my sister did several years ago and said it was quite good. We were underwhelmed, but frankly that wasn't the worse part. Let me say that I am essentially a vegetarian, so I went for the vegi sub. My sister is not and she ordered something with meat. They made hers first, and followed with mine. Once mine was made the employee picked up the same knife that was used by the other employee on my sister's sandwich (and not cleaned) and sliced my sandwich. There was only one other knife there, which was caked with food. It really turned my stomach. To add to the question of how clean this place is - neither employee wore gloves nor a hair guard. Additionally, I opted out of mayonaise because there were about a dozen bits of bacon in there - it actually looked like they "cleaned" the knives by rubbing it against the edge of the mayonaise container, where the bits of bacon built up. To add to this - they do not anything down between your bread and the counter (think a piece of waxed paper might be nice), and they slide the bread down as it goes by each option. I ended up taking off the bread, and eating only the part where the knife had not touched. It was less than a pleasant experience, and I would not go there again. I am actually quite annoyed at myself for not saying something at the time. read more

Stopped by here today for lunch (11/15). Was surprised (happily) that this is basically a knock off of Submarina which I used to love when I lived by one. Prices were reasonable, service was fast but only gets 3 stars because just like another reviewer said below, the lettuce was wilted and pink. Also the avocado wasn't fully ripe. I see the owner below respond from three weeks ago to another review complaining about this and stating that this wouldn't happen again but the lettuce again was pink and wilted today. I was disappointed as I love fresh shredded lettuce on my sandwich over leafy greens but my sandwich has not lettuce. read more

This location was a convenient stop while I was out and about in Vista. The restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly, and the line moved quickly. I was able to get in and out quickly, which was good since I was on my way to an appointment. I got the Cali sandwich on squaw bread. The bread was fresh, as were all of the toppings. First time coming to this sandwich shop and I'm pretty impressed. The food was really good quality and tasty. I did however see someone comment how the lettuce was turning pink, I could definitely see how they thought the lettuce was bad. I can add that the banana peppers didn't look amazing either, but the sub I ordered still tasted amazing. I got the ATC on white and I will definitely be returning. One other thing though, the price is a little high for a sub. I mean, it is a big sub, but there are a few other sandwich shops in the area that are cheaper and great quality as well. Overall, I would recommend this place to a friend, but I would tell them it may be pricey. Then again, you get what you pay for! read more
