Had a friend in town so we took her to Perenn Midtown. I enjoy how when you first walk in there are selected goods, cards, coffee, and breads to choose from. It is great that you can see what is happening behind the scenes with windows that view into the kitchen. Then you approach the baked goods section and then it becomes hard to choose. Fresh croissants and cookies are the recognisable goods. Other goods I can't pronounce or spell however, the mochi is always an excellent choice. These mochi baked goods took time to perfect, so enjoy it here. The first wave of service is nice, they will help you get pastries and baked goodies. Then you approach the register where you can order food and drinks. This last visit everyone was very nice and helpful. We received our food quickly. As a longtime Reno customer I've watched them grow from a single location into a multi-state restaurant group with six locations across Nevada and Tennessee -- and that growth is well deserved. That said I do want to share one honest observation. On top of premium pricing -- which I'm happy to pay for quality -- Perenn also charges subscribers for their Substack newsletter. For an independent bakery scraping by, that makes complete sense. For a thriving six-location restaurant group with real momentum and expansion capital, it feels like a bridge too far. The brand story and the people behind it are genuinely compelling -- that content should be how you invite customers deeper into your world, not an additional revenue line. The food earns five stars. I've started to come back over the last couple months and the last 4 times I've gone there the selection stays the same, and now they've taken away my one motivator for my AM visits.... The golden toasty.... I hate to say but that was the last thing keeping me from just going to Beloved for my pastries and Pangolin for my latte. The last nail was today, this was officially the 4th time in a row that I have gone over the last couple months and they have opened up the store late, while watching all the people line up outside and not reacting to it. You gotta do better if you wanna keep this midtown location Perenn, there is other options that open on time, have a better selection, and are truly bought into midtown. Wow, such a disappointment. When traveling to Reno, this bakery is one of the things we most look forward to, for the past decade. NOT SO MUCH anymore. The pastries tasted old at 10 a.m. Almond, sticky bun, and chocolate croissant. They were all sub-standard. $8/each and not worth half of that. Coffees were not at the level we're used to. Beans were low quality. The worst part of this visit was the service. When I asked for our pastries to be heated (who wants cold sticky buns) the dark haired (short cut) girl rolled her eyes at me & tried to deny my request because we had already been given our order. If the blonde girl (even ruder) gave us the option at ordering it could all be avoided. This is heartbreaking, a favorite spot crossed off the list. Nothing elevated or special about this place anymore. Wasted $50 plus on 3 coffees & pastries. WILL NOT GO BACK. Two thumbs down for service. read more

I am so beyond happy that we have Perenn Bakery. All locations and the grocery store are incredible! We love the staff too, everyone is so nice and helpful. This is an overdue review, but I knew I had to share this! I really miss this bakery, I miss the calm and clean atmosphere and the general aesthetic of the bakery. I most remember their rich chocolate bouchon and their crème brûlée kouign armaan (whoops forgot how to spell it) The crème brûlée were at the perfect sweetness level; a short sweet sensation that doesn't linger in your mouth for too long. Plus, you can tell a staff member to heat up your goodies for you so it's warm and cozy. I remember biting into a warm, soft cookie while looking out into the rain. Came in a few minutes before closing, and they still had some goodies left so I got the danish of the day and it had mango in it and it was absolutely amazing! It was super beautiful too. I've been wanting to go to the Perenn midtown location forever. Finally last weekend we made the trip! It's a much more intimate and industrial setting than the Perenn in Rancharrah. I love how cozy it is here. Staff said they don't have as many choices as the bigger location but that was fine with me. I opted for the Cloud Matcha which was made with coconut water. Whenever I'm Reno, I stop by here to get vanilla crème brulee kouign amann and it's so delicious. The crust is crispy and the pastry is flaky and the vanilla cream is delicious. I like their pastries but not a huge fan of the coffee. I got a cortado and a cappuccino and they just gave me espresso shot in a cup for both drinks. We ordered an americano, breakfast sandwich with bacon jam, ham and cheese croissant and chocolate and pistachio croissant. While we enjoyed everything, the croissants were certainly the highlight of our meal. We are not big on sweets but we loved the chocolate and pistachio croissant the best. Both croissants were flaky, fresh and absolutely delicious - perfect for a light treat! It's a smaller space but they had plenty of tables open when we entered. It's a cute place to meet up with a friend for a coffee date! The staff was also friendly and greeted up when we entered and helped answer any questions we had about the menu items. This location is busy, which is normal for Peren. There is indoor and outdoor seating, but it fills up really fast. This location is a little different than their Rancharra location. It's has more of a stop and go or quick bite vs a restaurant vibe. When you walk in, there isnt a menu until you get to the register and has a small coffee menu overhead. I ordered an orange poppy seed bread slice, an apple croissant, 2 breakfast sandwiches and two cloud drinks. Of course the pastries were given to me right away. They ended up smashing my poppy slice in a box where the icing was scraped off, so it was no longer esthetically pleasing, but still tasted great. Downside... everything came out at different times and I mean much different times. After I paid and collected my pastries it took about 20 minutes for my hot breakfast sandwiches to come out and then another 15 minutes for my two drinks. Since this was a to go order, my food was extra cold. The drinks were last to come out and were unfortunately shaken, so you could no longer see the distinct cloud or clear part, so that was a little disappointing since it was the main appeal. I will probably venture back, but be more aware of the timing or know that I will be there a good while. With the high end prices, I just expected the quality/service to align. read more

My 1st time in I got the avocado toast and ricotta toast came to about 31$... gave a 4 cause it's only based out of 2 items of their whole menu. But will rate each item below... Avocado toast 1 out of 5. It was so spicy I couldn't eat it. The only other thing that stood out and over powered the taste was the little bits of lemon. I tried to force myself to eat half and it was just to spicy. And made me nauseous. Ricotta toast 3 out of 5. Was just meh... very bland. I ate half sibce my stomach was still upset from the avocado toast ...I was grateful it helped extinguish the fire... If u Don't like spicy I would definitely request they don't add the chili. In the future I will also be requesting no lemon and extra onion. Couldn't even taste the onion buy u could smell it. I always give a place a second chance. But maybe not anytime soon. read more

But is it just me or are their pastries getting smaller in size? I been coming here since they open and there is definitely a size difference. This is the OG spot for Perenn before the rancharrah days. The memories of walking in smelling all the yummy baked goods and standing in line thinking of what they have to offer that day and if they have anything left! This spot feels darker but that's the mood set with the darker walls and the windows only at the front of the store. It's best to get there early to ensure you get what you what before they run out! They have tables to enjoy your coffee and breakfast but it's also small enough to just grab and go. The pace of the line is fast so as long as you know what you're getting, it's smooth sailing. I like their Vietnamese coffee and their kougian amann is my first love. Definitely one of my favorite bakeries in town! read more

Stopped by this morning for some goodies for the road. The baked goods here are just as good as they look. The prosciutto & Gruyere cheese was buttery, flaky & soft a solid 10/10. The cinnamon croissant was a little too rich for me but delicious nonetheless. I can't wait to get home & bake the garlic, fig jam & brie bread that I got.
