I really love this store and the variety it provides for browsing and finding a gift for someone (or yourself!) I love paper and found myself in the corner with the stationery trying to find my next journal. I found these brilliant Papelote (from Czechoslovakia) notebooks that I hadn't seen anywhere else. A Google search showed me that it's quite hard to find this brand in the US, as it is quite new. I will definitely be back whenever I need to find a gift (I was eyeing their candle selection) or another notebook for myself! read more

Everything from the beautifully designed store, to the modern/unique merchandise, to the cute little bird logo on the store bags make Perch a dangerous place to shop! I was at a loss for where to take my mom for lunch, so I thought I would venture over to Glen Park. While we didn't really find a lunch spot, we did find Perch, and lets just say that owner Zoel hit it on the nail with putting together a great gift store. There aren't too many in the city that do it all that well (and lets just say I am PICKY!!!)...but he has done a great job. Customer service was wonderful, I actually felt greeted & welcomed (which is something most places lack). And the selection was fun. If you haven't been definitely venture over to the Glen Park hood. This store is NOT your average SF soap/stationery/candle "home" store! The store is filled with really unique, handpicked, beautiful things! I am in love with every single thing in there store... stationery, journals, candles, papers, household items, art, jewelry, all of it! My friend and I were running back and forth from one cool thing to another... ("oh my god, did you see this?!" "and look at this!" "wait, look!!") LOVE IT HERE. Lots of unique host/hostess gifts, jewelry, Paddywax candles, and cute baby things. Be prepared to browse this little store for over an hour. Employees (owner?) are super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. One of the only places I know in the city where I can get 1) a beautiful and reasonable hostess gift 2) a sophie teething giraffe for my friend's baby and 3) handmade earrings for a birthday present in one trip! What an awesome store. The owner does it right! He greets you and then leaves you alone to browse his awesome well laid out collection of cute, interesting and well made items. Then he asks if you need help. I found all sort of gifts for people in my life in this store, from organic goat milk soap to stainless steel bartender tools set for a budding mixologist. Talk about great service, Perch has the best I have seen. I stopped into the shop becuase I was going to a birthday party for a 1 year old and didn't have a clue what to bring. Luckily the ladies who worked there, spent some time with me and showed me a few options. Despite me being a bit undecided and unfocused about what to buy, the help was patient, nice, and had a great deal of enthusiasm. They calmed me down and sent me off with a great gift as well as some really cool future great gift ideas. Perch has a pretty nice selection of little gifty-type items, everything is quite pricey though, but that is to be expected. I was looking around for the perfect gift and I felt a little self-conscious about the fact that I'd been looking around for like 45 minutes so I just said to the associate, "I'm just looking for the perfect thing for a coworker who's leaving our office and I'm just not quite sure what to get" and he just kind of chuckled and that was it. In all actuality I was happy that you didn't try to help me because I just didn't want to feel obligated to buy something that you suggested but the fact of the matter is that he never asked me what I was looking for and you never offered any help so if you are looking for that sort of customer service I don't know if Perch is the place for you. I ended up buying a candle that was about $40 and he peel the sticker off the bottom which I thought was nice, because it had a price tag on it, but it made me wonder in my mind "what if the recipient wanted to return or exchange it though?" He was obviously aware of the fact that this was a gift. He put the candle in a shopping bag and stuck a piece of tissue in it but I could see behind him that there was all kinds of ribbon hung up, ready to be used to tie a bow on a gift, and I'm pretty sure I've even seen them giftwrap things at the register too, so it was odd that he didn't offer that to me or at least offered to tie a ribbon on it...I would've paid for it. I'm not taking away rating stars for this experience but I definitely felt a little bit discriminated against. My rating is based on the fact that it's just not really a destination boutique, it's more just for poking around inside of if you're waiting for a manicure down the street. I highly doubt that I'll be returning there just because I was not really made to feel like a valued customer the way that I've seen them treat others in the past. Zoel: Thanks for your response. I live in Glen Park, so it's not so much of a venture for me, but that's neither here nor there. Perch is really cute, I don't usually frequent the Glen Park area, but if I did I would definitely come here often. I came here specifically looking for an Ork poster of San Francisco. Unfortunately they didn't have the one I wanted but the owners was super nice and looked it up on the website. He sent the company an email to see if he could order one for me. I gave him all my info and he called me later that day to let me know that you can only order that particular one online. It was great that he called me right away because that gave me time to place my order at the Ork website and get the poster by this weekend (Yeah!). The store is everything I love, candles, lotions, jewelry, paper goods. He has a great eye for purchasing really nice products. I'm a candle whore and have been coveting the Lafco candles ever since I saw them on Oprah. At $55 a pop I was reluctant to buy them online without smelling them first. So I was really excited when I saw them at Perch. They smelled great but I think I prefer the Voluspa (which they also carry there). The shop is in a nice area with ample parking and I did notice that they had some nice places to eat there, so maybe I'll make a day of it and take another trip to Glen Park in the next few weeks after I've gotten paid. read more
