I've been to a lot of nail salons/spas - what girl hasn't? But this is by far a personal favorite. The nail salons I've frequented in the past fall into two buckets. They're either no frill, completely lacking the peaceful and serene experience. Or they are overrun with people and noise, more like a get in and get out. That isn't the case with Perception. They mostly operate on appointments and don't take on more than they can handle which helps to create the kind of tailored experience you'd want from a nail spa. When you walk in, you totally zen out and forget the worries of the day. There's even lemon water and tea while you wait. It doesn't smell of hazardous chemicals. And best of all, they use natural products. I've been twice so far and my shellac manicures have lasted longer than ever. I am completely sold and will be back! read more

I took my mom here for a Mother's Day pedicure, without really knowing much about the place since I don't live in Richmond anymore. We had a great experience! The massage chairs are super comfy (though it took me a little bit to figure out the controls) and the stylists were very sweet and accommodating. Another perk: the space doesn't reek of nail polish. The products they used smelled so good, and apparently they blend them themselves. I appreciated that they were made with essential oils and coconut oil. We just got a normal pedicure, but my feet felt so refreshed afterward from the massage and soak. And my toes still look pretty good, almost a month later! I don't get pedicures very often, but I think this place will become a regular stop for our future mother & daughter outings! read more

Loved the staff. The facial was extremely relaxing and felt really good. I could feel my skin flow after the facial. The complimentary tea was absolutely delicious. read more

I used to really like this place and always had good service. This week I made an appointment for a pedicure with a friend. A few days later they called and said the online system had made a mistake and they would need to move our appointments later in the day. I said I needed to check with my friend to see if they could make that time, but to please hold the appointments for now and we would cancel if needed. The next day someone called me and said they were completely booked and had no appointments. They "had no record" of my conversation the previous day and no way to fit us in. So frustrating. Will be looking for a new g-to pedicure place. read more

Very disappointed! I had a 3p appointment for a massage, previous appointment taking longer. I had exactly 1 hour because I had another appointment elsewhere for a pedicure. Since previous appointment was running long I had to leave. Whatever the circumstances, the previous person's appointment should have been cut short to ensure the next person (Me) got in for their appointment on time. Was my first/last visit. Appointment times should take into account of the extra time needed to clean rooms etc. My appointment time should have been 315p instead of 3p, then I could have advised that time would not work as I had other commitments. My massage should not now be cut short, that's not fair to me as someone who booked an hour massage. read more

This was my first visit. I am pleased to say I had a pleasant experience. The environment was so peaceful and silent. Before my appointment, I took a Covid-19 pre screening which made me feel safe. They took my temperature coming in, they advised that we don't touch the polish, you tell Chelsea or your nail tech verbally. I had the pleasure of working with Kim, she's very skilled and meticulous. I'm definitely adding this spa to my monthly care regimen. read more

I've been going to this salon for years now. Jewel always did my pedicures and she was top notch and had super attention to detail. Yesterday I had an appointment (for my fourth pedicure this year) with Jewel and was informed: 1) I didn't have an appointment AND 2) Jewel no longer worked there! Don't you think at the very least this deserved a phone call so I didn't have to come in and find this out?! While I was offered a pedicure by another person, whoever I spoke with didn't seem very caring or apologetic about the situation. This is not how you run a business and treat long time customers!! Very disappointed in Perception Salon! read more

went here to get a detox pedicure about a couple weeks ago and there were roaches all over the floor as a I walked in while getting greeted by the receptionist. The pedicure was alright, can't complain much about it other than the fact that the pedicurist wasn't that friendly. I would not recommend going to this place if you want to be in a relaxing, sanity environment while receiving your services. 2/10. read more

The worst experience ever... I thought i will enjoy my mlk day with a relaxing massage. The massage therapist nathen was working with me. His technique was fine and pressure was too much. It was not the most relaxing experience to be honest. He stops at 40mins and says we started late and you should pay my time. I was not aware.... He said i just made the call last minute. Btw ne being a cliente for the first time.... He asks me if u want to go for 60 mins and stops at 40 just doesnt gets comprehended well. I am all about punctuality, and professionalism but rudeness is total different thing. I had the worst experience all i wanted was a relaxing day. I will not recommend this place to any of my family and friends and i am not returning for sure. I gave him full gratitude as some people just work job to job and tips are important for them. The front office refunded me 15$. It will not reverse my experience from this place. Worst ever! read more

We bought 2 packages that included facials and a manicure or pedicure. We were both satisfied with the facials and went on to the next service when there was a huge miscommunication when I asked for dip-nail with my manicure and the technician said it would be $8 more than the package I had already booked. I waited for a while since there was only one technician doing manicures. When it was my turn I was surprised when he didn't say anything and began grinding my nails. He didn't shape the tips, clean the cuticle up, or anything a typical manicure would consist of. Instead he quickly dipped my nails twice ( my normal nail tech dips 3-4 times) and he was done in minutes. It looked okay even though my nails were all different lengths because he did zero shaping. I had sticker shock when arriving a the register and realizing the price had changed quite a bit from the original package price, but since this was a birthday experience we paid and left. Less than 24 hours later the dip began chipping off my nails and it looks awful. I will need to go see my regular nail tech to remove what is left of acrylic, which is super frustrating especially because of the higher price I paid for the "manicure" and dip. I will say that I emailed Perception Day Spa and they agreed that there was a miscommunication and they offered for me to come back in, but I think I'll be getting my nails done somewhere else. On a side note, I was surprised that they even offered dip nails in an Organic spa. Saying something is "organic and non toxic" when there is nothing about the dip nail process or it's Ingredients that is non toxic. I work in the beauty industry and I am not a stranger to the chemicals we use; I strongly recommend doing research on SNS ( the brand of dip they use) if truly an organic experience matters to you. I've had an account on Yelp for years and have never left a bad review before and that should speak for how this experience with Perception Day Spa did not add up to the value of the services I received. read more

This spa is the only one that I trust with my nails in Richmond! Not only is it fully organic- but I have never had a bad experience! Hang is AMAZING and Emily is top notch as well- but really every technician I've had had been wonderful. I love the fact that the salon cares about providing an organic experience and offers nail colors without harmful chemicals. You can tell that the owner cares about the Salon- as all details are taken into consideration. Try the tea when you go it's delicious! read more

I discovered Perception on Yelp, and I was DELIGHTED at how wonderful this spa is. I scheduled 3 facials and 2 manicures, for my mothers birthday. From beginning to end, everyone there was very helpful, kind, and attentive. I had a shellac manicure by Thi (pronounced Tea), and it's the best one I've ever had. I'm quite picky about manicures, as I hate when the polish gets on my cuticles and forms a ridge when it dries, because I'll immediately begin picking at it to "help" smooth it out. No polish ridges with Thi! My sister had a regular manicure by Jennifer which looked just as perfect. All 3 of us had a personalized facial by Hang. AH-mazing. She makes ALL of the organic products used for the facials and is very thorough in explaining the process, so you know what to expect and welcomes feedback. We all walked out of the room with brand new, glowing skin. I'm aware this was a bit of a long review, but there were so many great things to say! I will, for sure, be returning for more mani's and facials. read more

I went here with my daughter to try the place out. I went for a brow shaping and tinting. I mean that is a pretty simple thing and at a place that claims to have brow specialists how could it go wrong right?? Well it was absolutely the worst brow shaping I have ever had!! I thought something was up when she tinted first and then shaped. I mean usually a technician will shape the brows let you see it to make sure it is good and then do the tinting. No, after me telling her exactly what I wanted with my brows she proceeded to tint them. I asked why and she says she tints first and then shapes. I should have gotten up right then. Afterwards she tells me not to wash the tint off for 2-3 hours (which is typical) but she asked if I liked them?? I couldn't see them through the tint that was gooped on my brows. I waited the 2-3 hours and washed them off. I now have tiny half moons over my eyes without even straight lines. It's Horrible! The people were all friendly but you have to be more than friendly to keep people coming in. I for one will never go there again. I now have to figure out how to fix this disaster. read more

This spa in Carytown is so calming. Everything from the smell to the decor to the lighting gives peaceful vibes. This is quite a feat in the heart of busy Carytown! I got a pedicure and the woman who was my nail technician knew what she was doing and was pleasant to interact with. The guy who works behind the counter and greets you when you walk in is especially friendly and nice as well. My pedicure turned out great and it was relaxing to enjoy the massage chair while I got it done. This is definitely a solid place to get a manicure or pedicure. It is pricier than a lot of places, but they do give you a better quality pedicure than the average place. I would definitely go back! read more

This was the best spa experience I had since moving to Richmomd. Moving from a large metropolitan city to a smaller city has its challenges one of which is finding a good spa. However this place makes their own products and I love that they incorporate things like green tea eye masks and heated stones in their services. Perception has the best masseuse,Floribe and esthetician, Tien in town. I highly recommend this place. read more

This is my favorite place to come for a pedicure. I could go to a normal nail salon and pay $30 for a quick pedicure, but I am willing to pay a little extra for a enjoyable experience. The ambiance is so relaxing with spa music and earthy decor. You are greated with a beverage of your choice. I like their hot tea but sometimes I'll enjoy a glass of wine. The staff is so nice and they respect that you want to spend your hour relaxing not chatting. The services itself are amazing as well. I get the detox pedicure and enjoy spending the hour having my feet massaged and pampered. Having a perfect pedicure with painted toenails is just the cherry on top! read more

I LOVE this place! New to the area and needed a good place to get my Mani/pedi done. The ambience is amazing and I LOVE that the manicure stations are antique sewing machine tables. Service is outstanding and everyone (even other clients) were so friendly!! I was thrilled with how my nails turned out and so happy that I don't have to search around because I got lucky on my first stop!! If you stop in definitely plan to go to the Organic restaurant SEN across the street also owned by the same owner. The food was amazing!!! read more

Best experiences I've had at a spa/salon. Whenever I'm in Carytown and need my eyebrows to be waxed, I always come here. As soon as you walk in you feel very welcomed and it's very relaxing. Their waxing room is dimly lighted and the seating arrangement is very relaxing and comfortable as well, as they have you lay down. Because of how much I enjoyed getting waxed, I booked an appointment to get a pedicure as well as a treat to myself. As soon as I got there everything was prepared for me, the lady doing my nails was very polite and friendly. I was in a separate room as well from the walk-ins, which made it feel very VIP with the appointment. Overall very enjoyable experiences! They are what I would consider a little pricy but it's definitely worth the cost. read more

Okay Brad is AWESOME! This man makes me wanna go back. His customer service alone is fierce!!!!!! Unfortunately, I came on a day that they were hosting a party which caused me to be seated away from everyone. My shellac nails held up for 2 weeks and my toes which were not shellac lasted 1 week. I am pretty hard on my feet. The atmosphere was cozy and very earthy which was very therapeutic. The establishment was also very clean and the staff seemed to have a few family connected relationships (ie mom and daughter). I would refer to friends and would come back in the future. read more

My husband and I were just walking by this spa! We decided to pop in to see if they had any massages available. There was only one masseuse working but they called in another one just so they could get us both in! Within 20 minutes we were both getting amazing massages! Super cute place!! My pedicure was great and the front desk person was very nice. The lady who did my pedicure was nice, not talkative but that is totally fine. However when I was finish I was given no instruction as so wait until I was dry or whether I needed help putting my shoes on. So maybe after sitting there for about 10mins and watching her start on someone else's pedicure I just got up put my own shoes on and paid. I was a little disappointed with the service and that is the reason for the 3 stars. read more

THIS PLACE IS AN ABSOLUTE RACKET. BUYER BEWARE OF THEIR FRADULENT PRACTICES. I scheduled a 90-min massage after my wedding day just to walk out thoroughly disappointed and even disrespected by the Manager on duty. When someone schedules a 90-min massage they expect the "timer" to begin once the massage begins, NOT including the following activities: checking in at the first reception desk, while filling out an ungodly amount of intake "paperwork" (on your phone) at the second reception desk, while waiting to be taken back to your massage room, while getting undressed for the massage to start, while getting dressed once the massage has concluded, and finally, while paying for the service at the conclusion. THE ENTIRETY OF ALL OF THESE EVENTS was less than 90 minutes!!! When I nicely complained to the receptionist about this, thinking they must have accidently booked me for a 60 minute massage, she went in the back to speak to the manager. Much to my dismay, she came back stating that she spoke to the manager and there was nothing they could do (pretty cowardly for the Manager to not actually come out and speak with me!). That was the only explanation given. I asked to speak to the manager directly, who proceeded to leisurely come out over 5 minutes later. The man was completely disrespectful stating that my massage started at 11:50AM and that I was late. I did not appreciate the false accusations and I proceeded to provide him evidence of my appointment start time being 12PM. He looked at my phone perplexed and once I called out his lie with hard evidence, he then stated that I should have showed up earlier anyways. I then said, I was on the massage chair for 60 minutes max at which point he said, "no way, that's not true". Again, he basically called me a liar. LUCKILY ONCE AGAIN, I had proof. I had taken time stamp screenshot on my phone right when my massage ended when I was getting dressed. I showed him my proof and once again he stood looking perplexed trying to figure out the next excuse to continue to scam me...he finally offered me a refund for "7 minutes". That is absolutely insulting, I told him to keep his 7-minutes and to enjoy working with my credit card company when I filed a grievance for my fraudulent experience. Now to the massage, this was a below average massage compared to many I have gotten elsewhere. Aside from being scammed on the length of time, it was one of the softest massages I've ever received despite numerous times requesting that the gentlemen performing the massage go deeper. Nothing changed. Despite claiming aroma therapy as part of the massage, there was none (I smelled nothing) and it was crazy loud in my massage room creating a less than relaxing ambiance. There was the faintest music but it was dwarfed by the sound of people laughing and carrying on outside as to what appeared like a small restaurant inside the spa. PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE! YOU WILL LIKELY FIND YOURSELF FILING A COMPLAINT WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANY LIKE I DID. read more
