Grilled "Kofte" Meatballs
Elizabeth G.

Came here to catch up with an old friend and we stayed for hours picking at delicious apps and dips and sitting in the most adorable outdoor space! It was comfortable, cozy and wonderful. The dips were great and perfect portions. Would definitely come back!

Catching up with a friend at Pera SoHo.

A real hidden gem. Step off the curb and into a retreat. Filled with the sounds you'd expect at an upscale party yet comfortable having a conversation without yelling. Service was excellent the food and drinks were even better. Can't wait to check out their midtown location. I highly recommend.

Roasted baby eggplant and scallops

Good flavors but expensive for what it is. We had reservations for 2 people at 6 on a Wednesday but we probably didn't need them. We sat on the outside patio that is covered. Started with the scarlet on Thompson drink which was a more aperol forward cocktail and tasty. We got the scallops and roasted baby eggplant to share. For the price the dishes were pretty small. You definitely won't leave feeling stuffed. That being said, the flavors in the scallop dish were sooo good. The pea puree on the bottom with the crunchy mushrooms was delicious. Could have used more of a hard sear on the scallops but they were well cooked. Baby eggplant had a good mix of textures and flavors and the spice on the eggplant was really good. Service was a little spotty and slow, especially for how empty the place was. Not sure I'd come back but was fine trying it. Seems like the have a good happy hour with a lot of their mezze dishes on the menu so maybe I'd try that.

Shishito peppers (sautéed)
Jessica Y.

This restaurant is very charming with a cute outdoor seating area and large indoor seating. All of the staff from the hostess to the waiter were extremely friendly and helpful. We started with the shishito peppers which is listed as a side dish but we got as a starter. My friend has a gluten allergy and they made us aware that there was some breading and they were able to sauté the peppers instead which was still delicious. The hostess had recommended the burratta bruschetta, phyllo rolls, and calamari but unfortunately we did not get them due to the gluten allergy. For entrees, I had the chicken shashlik and my friend had the watermelon and heirloom tomato salad with chicken. My meal was very good but my friends salad looked so delicious I was a little jealous! All in all, this place is great and I look forward to returning to try more items!

We were here for a bday and the place was great and apps were really good. The main vegetarian course on the pre fixe menu wasn't super filling though. Great place to host groups, the staff was friendly and helpful.

The environment is very good. The food is western style. A lot of companies choose this restaurant to have a Christmas dinner. But the dessert is not that good

We've been visiting Pera Soho for about 10 years now and besides the food ambiance so glad the food has not changed. The country salad is my favorite along with the fries and Portuguese fried calamari which I only have from here not being a seafood consumer. On occasion, weekend brunch gets crowded but it's nice you can come have such a good meal in a nice setting without the loud crowd. My only message is, please keep the good taste & quality food rolling! While NYC has many spots, it's hard to find a place you love that is consistent.

Very good food and prompt service. 6 orders of food and drink and everyone was happy with the quality of food. We are Chicago based and know good food. This place rocks.

(Overall: B) - Overall, I found the fine dining food here to be quite mid with lots of room for improvement. The staff were kind and attentive and the venue itself was quite nice to host large groups, but the food could be better. (Octopus: A) - Their octopus is a well composed dish with a tender octopus leg and smashed potatoes that are nicely seasoned to give a forward depth of flavor and to heighten the octopus. The greens also add some vibrant color to make this dish pop. (Steak Frites: C) - It was smart to use the bread as a canvas to catch the steak drippings and not let those juices go to waste. Unfortunately, the rest of the dish is sub par as the steak was cooked to at least medium well, becoming quite dry. Further, I would've likef to see more of those regional spices tossed in the fries to differentiate from just regular fries. The plating could also be improved as the fries completely dominate the first look of this dish. (Calamari: B) - The cherry peppers add a pleasant sweet spiciness to enhance the fried squid. Aside from the sloppy presentation, I think this is a well executed dish. (Dip Sampler: D) - Aside from the carrot ginger hummus which was quite innovative from those notes of sweetness from the carrot, this dish was quite discomforting. The beer botani somehow mimics pepto bismol in both color and consistency in the form of a dip -- yet, somehow I find consumig pepto bismol more pleasant. I was a bit disappointed that the smoked eggplant was not coming through in the labne as well. -- Food: E Presentation: E Price: E Atmosphere: +1 Service: +1 Menu: E Overall: +2 B Insta/Beli: @amei_eats

Pan-Seared Salmon

Pera is an amazing Mediterranean restaurant in a great SoHo location! It was easy to make a reservation and the staff was very welcoming. We were seated in a nice secluded area in the back, it felt like we had the restaurant all to ourselves! Service was very quick and they delivered our drinks and food in a timely manner. Each dish was better than the next! We started with the dip sampler which came with pita chips. Two of us shared the lamb sampler which came with grilled lamb pieces, 2 lamb chops, and a ground lamb kebab. The steak was great and the side of fries as well. Lastly, the salmon was cooked to perfection and was very flavorful. Overall Pera is a really great restaurant with quality food and service! Highly recommend for a date night or a night out with friends.

The food was fine! My favorite was the dip sampler, but it came w pita that was so crispy it made it hard to eat. If I could do it again I'd ask for soft pita. Come here for the ambiance (which must be outdoor seating, super nice and covered) not the food

The food itself was bad -- like really bad. From start to finish everything missed the mark: The hummus was bland and tasted like someone forgot the spices. The doma (dolmas) were disappointing and didn't have the rich flavor they should. Even the baklava, which should be a sweet highlight, was dry, lackluster, and honestly not enjoyable. The Turkish coffee was so bitter it was almost undrinkable -- if you like bitter coffee, maybe it's your thing, but it wasn't what I expected. They market themselves as Turkish and Middle Eastern cuisine, but what I ate didn't come close to what I'd consider good food in that category. My stomach was still growling afterward -- and not in a "I want more" way, but in a "why did I eat this?" way. The staff and service were fine and the atmosphere is pretty, but at the end of the day it's just not worth it when the food itself is so underwhelming. I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for authentic or tasty Turkish/Middle Eastern food.

It was a little hard to hear and converse at times as it gets crowded, but the food was delicious and there are really unique items on the menu. Food: The duck shawarma was one of our favorites! The lamb and scallops were also flavorful and tender. The dips were delicious with the pita, but I wish the serving size for the dips were bigger. The fries were great - well seasoned! Also recommend the milky pudding, it was a nice refreshing way to end the dinner. Service: Our server was super helpful in letting us know what items are more shareable and his suggestions for cocktails. Definitely try some of the arak based cocktails. There were 7 of us The seating was cozy but not cramped. We started with 7 family style small dishes: Hummus with Falafel Pops (chickpea purée, tahini, falafel, olive oil), Spring Burrata (roasted cherry tomatoes, toast, basil oil), Hamachi Crudo (passionfruit vinaigrette, citrus zest, cucumber, mint, sesame tuile), Scallops (carrot puree, serrano pepper, brown butter sauce), Tenderloin Skewer (zaatar chimichurri, fresh herb salad), and Shiitake Stuffed Grape Leaves (tomato coulis, yogurt foam, herbs). Everything was delicious. The hummus was well seasoned the falafel had a nice crunch. It went well with the warm puffy gyro bread that came to the table. The burrata was wasm and creamy. I love the vinaigrette on the fish. I ended up eating most of it. The scallops were the sweetest, most tender ones I have ever had. The tenderloin skewers were tender and well seasoned. I liked the grape leaves but the rice consistency was very soft almost mushy and you can barely tell there were mushrooms. There was barely any mushrooms flavor. Next we all chose an entree. I got the duck breast, my husband and daughter each had the beef tenderloin. The duck breast was smaller than i expected. The skin was nicely seared and very crispy but boy did it give my jaw a workout. It was done medium rare. It was juicy but tough. The small beef tenderloin was tender and smoky. The waiter poured the sauce over the tenderloin for added flavor. Finally dessert was a fruit plate with ice cream and pudding. The fruit was fresh and the flavors of the ice cream and pudding unique. It was a nice end to a good brunch. The price was a little expensive at $85 a person.

I got to try a variety of different items, inducing: ayran, chicken Adana sandwich on home bread, Turkish tea, and rice pudding. The ayran was probably the best I've ever had in my life. It was so refreshing, the perfect amount of salt, so good. And it's homemade. I would highly recommend you try this drink regardless of what you order, it's that good. The chicken Adana sandwich was also quite nice. The chicken was fresh and well seasoned in a good portion with some lettuce, onions, tomatoes as well. The bread was great. It's served with two wonderful, flavorful sauces: hot sauce and yogurt sauce (I much prefer the latter). Portion is incredible for the price. Then, I was initially interested in trying the fig pudding for dessert but they were out of it, so I went with the rice pudding. Again, a huge portion that is well worth the price. So creamy, so good. And, they brought out 2 Turkish teas for free to make up for not having the fig! The people are just very nice here, and the tea was also lovely, piping hot and just perfect. It's a pretty small restaurant but doesn't get crowded early on. They were playing some Turkish music while I ate, and I really enjoyed it. To drink, I ordered the Tehrani Mule; a take on the moscow with a house made ginger lime juice. 8/10; a tad watery. We decided to go family style with ordering and chose the mediterranean salad, kotlet, and falafel to start. The falafel was perfectly crisp with a slightly smoky outer crust that added really great texture and flavor. A bit dry tho -- Needed the hummus and Mezze Platter to dress it up a little. Salad was refreshing, crispy and a great palette cleanser across the table. The combo platter + mixed rice was fabulous. Chicken was tender and came right off the bone (something I'm new to but it was good!). It came with a side of tzatziki and persian zhoug (?) - a minty and herby chutney that just added another layer to the aromatics of the dish. Although the rice was great, it was a really large portion even for the group of 5. It would've been nice to have the option to split to a half portion of vegetables or different grain to balance quantity. Overall 8.9/10 - Definitely worth a visit with a group for business dinner or catching up on a friend's night out.
