One Monday morning, on my way to work, my car started making a funny noise and bucking when I tried to accelerate. So I asked around for some recommendations for auto repair. Apparently some city councilman or such goes to Pep & Sasha's so I said hey if it's good enough for his car it's probably good enough for my rusty old LeBaron. Pep drives my car around the block and says my alternator and belts need fixing. Seemed minor and I asked him to see if there was anything else that could use fixing while I'm at it. He came back with a long list and highlighted just a few things off of it that he suggested should be done urgently. I agree to go ahead with the 'urgent' repairs for an additional $400 because I really needed that LeBaron to last another year. Just one more year. Pep calls me at 4pm the next day and says the alternator and belts didn't fix my car--so he's not charging me for those (this is a pro)--BUT (there's always a but) by the time he realized this sad fact he had already done the other $400 worth of work so he's charging me $400 anyway AND what is really wrong with my car is my transmission--which we all know is never worth repairing when you've got a rusty old LeBaron--but he THOUGHT it would last me another 6 months. Within 10 minutes of leaving Pep & Sasha's, my car had officially stopped changing gears and could not go more than 30 miles per hour without squealing and stopping. Now I have to buy a new car. Why Pep didn't do the alternator and belts and test to see if that fixed the problem before continuing on with the rest of the work is beyond me. But, I mean, hey--congratulations Pep and Sasha for 'earning' my $400. read more
