Spicy pizza
Bil M.

I was so glad I found this place when we moved here. Their regular pizza is slightly above average, but their special pizzas are outstanding! The Joey's Sicilian is my favorite. Their crust is perfectly done and everybody is always friendly. They have good salads, wings, and cheesy bread also. The one sandwich I had was flavorful but the meat had a hard time staying in the bread.

I'm no expert but this looks like a 16" pizza in a 18" box to me. Their pizza is good but there's always something wrong.

Good pizza but it's always wrong. My wife orders light cheese and they never get it right. Today we got a 16" pizza in an 18" box. Say what you will about Domino's and Pizza Hut but they at least understand quality control.

Great specialty pizzas at Peppino's Pizza in DeWitt.

If you like their thin-crust and want it crispy, be sure to ask them to cook it crispy on the bottom, otherwise it can be soggy.

But this willpower went out the window with the sandwich I got from Mancino's. I literally did not want to stop eating it. Every bite was delicious and satisfying. The sandwiches are huge, and although I was uncomfortably full halfway through, still I pressed on because I needed that grinder in my mouth (pause). I think what makes Mancino's sandwiches so good is that they are all toasted. I think you can ask for your sandwich not toasted, but why would you? The cheese gets all melty, the bread is slightly crisp but still soft in the middle, and the whole thing is just warm and delightful. I got the BLT (bacon, lettuce, tomato), which you'd think wouldn't benefit from being toasted, but you'd be wrong! This BLT sandwich also has a mozzarella cheese blend in it, which sounds super weird for a BLT, but just go with it. I suppose you could ask for a different cheese, or no cheese at all, but you should just trust that the fine people at Mancino's know what they're doing. After all, they've been doing what they're doing since the 1930s! (According to information that I gleaned from their website. Look at me using my journalism degree.) I was able to order ahead on the phone, and they told me it would take about 15 minutes, which was perfect. When I showed up, my sandwiches were hot and ready for me. And bonus: The people who work here are incredibly friendly and efficient.

The employee described how they made their fresh sandwiches and what they had to offer. After it is assembled, they can even toast your sub on a panini maker. Flat-top seating with an essential atmosphere. Clean restroom. Bottle soda, water, and sports drinks are available. I will return and recommend.

The other day I placed an order for pick up around 5:00. The employee over the phone told me it would be ready in about 20 minutes. I arrived around 30 minutes later only to see 2 young employees in the back being concerningly intimate with each other. After coming to assist me I also couldn't help but notice a number of large hickies on the boys neck. I told them my name for the order only to learn THEY HAD NOT STARTED IT YET. My husband placed the order online for 2 pizzas with ease. Unfortunately HH was not feeling generous with discounts, so we wound up paying $40 for 2 large pizzas. Upon inspection of pizzas I noticed the topping colors were quite muted. Not vivid like tomatoes and olives should be alongside cheese, mushrooms, and sausage. The sauce was plentiful as requested. Plating of the slices proved that the crust was flabby and weak. You had to almost fold the slice in half to avoid the toppings falling off in a sheet. First bite of pizza- pretty much tasteless. The sauce was as muted as the colors of the pizza. There was no pizza masterpiece here. Unfortunately even living in a small community with few choices, we will not be ordering from Hungry Howies again. A perfect waste of $40 in a daunting economy.
