Bread and Meat - Pork sandwich

Bread and Meat

We had to wait 20 minutes for a slightly cramped communal table, and it was all worth it. My…read morePhilly cheesesteak inspired sandwich was truly excellent, with warm, juicy flavorful beef and rich cheese curds, nicely balanced by green bell peppers and onions and bound together by a mild garlic aioli on perfect sandwich bread. Also got a slightly spicy and crisp coleslaw for a cool contrast and a minor dose of vitamins. My tablemates were also really pleased with their orders (a vaguely East Asian glazed chicken with pickled Banh Mi-style veggies and a cold roast beef with arugula--must try those next). Wow. Another reason to visit Cambridge.

Nice, high quality sandwiches. I actually went here two…read moredays in a row while staying in Cambridge. The first day I ordered two sandwiches, the Porchetta and the Jerk Chicken. The Porchetta sandwich has nice roasted pork and a crispy strip of pork skin to top it off. The description says it has a salsa verde sauce. To me, it was more like a pesto-style sauce. The pork was all meat and didn't have any globs of fat that you sometimes find in American pulled pork barbecue. The Jerk Chicken Sandwich was the weekly special. It consisted of several pieces of skin-on mostly dark meat chicken, house made slaw and I think a little mayo. I took off the chicken skin. It wasn't crispy and I don't care for much chicken skin. Even doing that, it had good flavor. A nice blend of spices and a little spiciness. I didn't eat it right away but it was still good. Like I said, I ordered this sandwich the next day. This time I ate it soon after ordering. The roll was still warm and slightly crunchy. I liked even more when eating it "fresh." I removed the skin on this one too. I used the take out window on the side and they were pretty quick, even though there were about four or five people in front of me. I'll definitely go back when in town and craving a sandwich.

Tucked away amongst a small passage of shops in a tiny alleyway linking Bridge St and Trinity St in…read morethe heart of Cambridge and accessible only by foot, this shop offers a variety of English and continental cheeses as well as other deli goods such as olives, cured meats or freshly prepared sandwiches. At first, the rustic decor, amazing aroma and friendly staff make it feel like a treasure trove to a cheeseoholic such as myself, but unfortunately that initial excitement quickly turns into disappointment. Granted, the staff are very knowledgeable about cheese, but they are less skilled at the practical side of their job, such as cutting a slice anywhere near to the weight specified by their customer or adding up prices correctly. Adding this to the rather high prices to begin with, leaves one's wallet in severe danger of starvation.

Though a cheese shop to the casual passer by it is so much more than this!! As well as being the…read moreonly place to buy cheese from in Cambridge it has some of the best service of any cheese shop I have ever been to, the friendly staff are more than willing to engage you in cheese related conversations. When you come out you not only know you have the cheese that you went in wanting, but you also feel slightly more enlightened than before. The main reason for my continious visits are the sandwiches that they sell, put simply they are amazing - so popular that John's now purchase them to sell in their bar at lunch time!! They are sandwhiches made from the highest quality ingredients fresh just a little earlier that day. Both hot and cold sandwhiches are avaliable.

This was my first Pret A Manger store that I have been in when I got to the UK. Now I realize that…read morethis store has tons of locations all around the UK and it is pretty convenient! I love the brightly lit store with such a variety of different lunch sandwiches and of course drinks. I had their smoke salmon sandwich and it was super bomb! I also ordered an iced americano black and it was all pretty good. This place is clean and organized which is also a bonus. A little bit on a smaller side for chairs and tables but maybe it's because I'm from America and everything to me in the UK seems a little bit tight. Overall we have eaten and different Prets around town and can say their sandwiches are legit!!!

Pret A Manger has a hard-to-miss logo; it's practically everywhere (city centres, train stations,…read moreetc.) so it's a very familiar brand to many. After grabbing a couple of cheeky snacks in London and being satisfied with the product, we were eager to step in for another go at this location in Cambridge. You'll find it amongst many frequented shops in a busy, but easily accessed block of town. Their sandwiches are good, specifically the baguettes. We've had the Ham & Cheese (Niman Ranch applewood smoked ham, Swiss, Mesclun) and Chicken Caesar & Bacon (Chargrilled Caesar Chicken (antibiotic free), arugula, parmesan shavings, bacon on artisan baguette). Both were great. Though pre-packed, the bread is crispy and ingredients are fresh enough. The Dijon mustard and mayonnaise add the perfect flare to complete a tasty bite. Everything is packaged well, clearly labeled, and organised on the shelves. Despite it being a major chain eatery, Pret provides convenience, reasonable pricing, good quality, and usually does it right.
