We were having a glass of wine and a soft drink celebrating my husbands 69th Birthday on the balcony of the restaurant, a lovely setting, therefore we asked the young friendly waitress that served us if they had any availability on the balcony for dinner, she booked us a table for 7.30pm that evening. When we finished our drink we went inside to pay and I asked her if it was possible if we could have the exact same balcony table, she replied not necessarily the same table, at this point an older man from behind the bar commented "we cannot guarantee a balcony table at all" we looked at the waitress and said "Oh, we thought you confirmed a balcony table" she looked at the man who then commented "no, I have allocated them downstairs" we responded to the waitress that we particularly wanted a balcony table therefore any availability for the following evening, she looked and confirmed availability when the man (barman/manager?) said 'No, I told you we cannot guarantee balcony tables, I allocate on the day, therefore will decide tomorrow, do you want a booking or not" I asked why he was being so rude, my husband then said we just want to pay and leave, at this point he became verbally aggressive and told us to get out, my husband said to the embarrassed waitress please just take the payment we want to leave, the man just repeated "get out I do not want your money, get out and do not come back". We have absolutely no idea what triggered his shocking behaviour towards us as we were just trying to make a reservation. Fortunately we do not encounter this type of aggression usually and went on to have a very lovely Birthday dinner in Brown's, excellent food, good ambience and friendly staff. read more

Lovely place and lovely decor. Not many customers on a Tuesday night. Indeed 3 tables in total. Food is served quite quickly and delicately presented and the staff are very friendly . I was told if in summer time , sitting on the deck , you can enjoy the sound of the running River next to it and that sounds pretty relaxing to me. " like " for that part! Enjoyed a great meal at Galleria in Cambridge, UK last night. This restaurant sits right on the river Cam, so be sure to get a table on the balcony so you can watch the 'punters' go by. (Punters are British Gondolas) There is also has a balcony down below right on the river. As a side note, here in the beginning of August, I was glad my wife reminded me to bring a jacket. It does get a bit cool- It was in the low 60's at night. Like most restaurants in the Cambridge, there are dining rooms on multiple floors. When you walk into the restaurant from off the street, you are on the 2nd and main floor. The dining room is very bright with hardwood floors, stainless steel railings and bright wooden tables and chairs. It also has a very modern look inside, which is quite a contrast to the facades of all the buildings around it that look like they are trapped in the 1700's. When we arrived, the waiter informed us that the oven was down and they had a limited menu. They were not making steaks and a few other items, but that was fine with us. We were seated in a corner table on the upper balcony, where we ordered a couple of glasses of pinot grigio straight away. ("Straight away"- that's some British lingo for ya). My wife ordered the olive appetizer, which came with green and black olives in a bit of olive oil, feta cheese sprinkled over the top and a few pieces of French bread for dunking. the olives were a bit small and tasted like they came from a jar. For our entrees, I ordered the Grilled monkfish with "king prawns", citrus zest, over basamati rice in a lemon grass, sweet chili and coconut cream sauce. The monkfish was light and flaky- grilled perfectly. The "king prawns" were actually rather small and nothing special. The rice and sweet chili coconut cream sauce gave the dish a Thai spin. It was very good, but thinking back, I should have gotten something a little more Mediterranean... My wife ordered the linguini with crab claw meat and king prawns in a chili-lemon-garlic-parsely sauce. Also very good. We wound up spending £42.75, which is $72. I took off a star because on the way out, my wife saw a cook entering the kitchen with 2 large bags of frozen shrimp. It looked like the guy went to Kroger and picked up a couple bags, so it's safe to say the "King Prawns" were not fresh and that might explain why they were small. (FYI-pretty sure there is not a Kroger here) We then began to think back on the olives, which were a little lame and wondered what else was frozen and not fresh... I also took off another star because the oven was down and as a result, there were a number of menu items not available and the service was a bit slow. This should only be a temporary problem after they get it fixed. BUT- when you go on vacation and you are on the other side of the planet for just a few days, you want the restaurant to be fully functional. Anyways Galleria- I will be back next year and I hope that it is as great an experience as it was last year. read more

Awful. We cannot speak to the food as we didn't get the opportunity to sit down. We entered the almost empty restaurant and a lovely young woman asked if we'd like to be seated. The manager, a mousy and a bit angry looking little man, approached us rather aggressively and said "There's no smoking on the balcony!" We don't smoke so were taken aback. We said as such and he scurried off. When we went to the balcony there was one table in the shade which is where we asked to sit. The young woman suggested that she'd have to check with her manager and he marched up to us "Madame, this is my only four top. I cannot seat you here." And he swiftly turned and marched away without another word. The restaurant was almost empty, during lunch, which should have been an indication to us. We left and had lovely wine and panini's at Benedetto's, on the patio, in the shade. The food is only part of a restaurant experience. read more

When I visited Cambridge, my friends and I decided to have a blowout meal at Galleria, especially because it was recommended to us by the tour guide. Despite the price, the food was delicious. I ordered a monkfish with tiger prawns in a curry sauce and shared a sticky toffee pudding with a friend for dessert. The fish and shrimp were cooked well which was great (I really dislike overcooked shrimp) and the sauce was smooth, although slightly under-seasoned. The sticky toffee pudding was even better than my entree. The toffee and the English custard melded perfectly on my plate and soaked through the pudding wonderfully. However, I did notice that although my choices were delicious, there were some inconsistencies in quality when it came to our meal overall. Some of my friends ordered a snapper dish which had been overcooked or was missing a sauce. All in all, if you're in the Cambridge area and looking for a sophisticated meal, head to Galleria! read more

When my partner came to visit my new home I searched far and wide to find somewhere nice to take her. After a couple of set backs (other restaurants being closed in August!) I settled on The Galleria due to the location. On calling to book I was advised that they were not taking bookings for the balcony so went for an inside table. When we arrived we spotted others on the balcony so I asked if we could be seated out by the river too and the waiter was happy to oblige with no fuss at all. I ordered mussels to start which were perfectly done and had a well cooked bream for my main whilst my partner had garlic French bread (which didn't look great) and a much better received Cajun chicken dish for her main. To finish we had an apple flan and a sticky toffee pudding- both lovely. The food is very good here but the whole restaurant is made by the location. If you can get on the balcony you are literally sitting above the river watching the punters below go by. All in all, we left very full and slightly merry due to a nice white wine- our evening only setting me back around £50. Would definitely recommend this place to friends. read more

To be honest, I have only sat out at the front here and had a cup of coffee with friends, so I can't speak for the food, but it is such a nice place to sit and watch the world go by - when the weather's nice. What's more, it is on the far side of the road for all the punt touts, so you get left in peace / get to watch other people being pestered. And yes, watching novices trying to steer their first punt is great entertainment. read more

Big Fan! I rode the 60 miles form London City Centre to Cambridge on my bike. Unbeknownst to me, there was a 20 mile head wind with 30 mile gusts the WHOLE way. Needless to say I was exhausted and wanted to collapse when I got there. As I rode up to town and into it, all I could think about was "Where is there a cafe/restaurant where I can lean my bike on a table and sit, eat, drink, and be merry." As I rode around basking in the splendor that is Cambridge, I ran into this little area by a canal with punt boats. There were a few places with tables outside and a lot of people. For some reason, I kept looking back at the Galleria. I finally decided to eat there was I happy to. First Seating outside and closest to the canal Second Able to lean my bike against the window without an issue and sit right next to it. Third Friendly staff that didn't harass me for the second point. Fourth Fantastic wine selection. How can one not want to drink wine after 60+ miles in the saddle -- I got the Merlot (pictured) Fifth The bread was fresh and real creamy butter included (pictured) Sixth The menu (if you read my reviews, you can see a trend and that trend is towards simplistic menus that focus on the kitchen's ability) simple continental cuisine that made it difficult to choose. Seventh The FOOD was fantastic!! I got duck with a Jasmine rice that was seasoned to perfection. I haven't had duck this succulent in quite some time. The flavors went perfectly together. The presentation (unfortunately not pictured) just added to whole expereince. Eighth Not related to the restaurant so much as to the company. Had a wonderful lady from just outside of Cambridge join me for dinner. She was waiting for her family to return from punting Ninth Price wasn't too bad considering getting duck 14.95 quid, two glasses of Merlot 4.75 each I will go back if and when I return to Cambridge. read more

When its nice out, the terrace at Galleria is a great spot. Its got a perfect aspect with two levels of balcony overlooking the Cam at Magdalene. The best reason for this location is its the very starting point for most people's first punting experience. I have seen so many hilarious incidents whilst sitting munching one of their ciabatta sangas. Galleria is a great place for lunch. They have a solid collection of wines, and the service is really friendly. The sandwiches are pretty good, but the best thing on offer is a mushroom risotto. And the desert menu, of course. Nice location with somewhat limited space for eating and a good view. It is a rare find though when it comes to well priced Mediterranean in the area. The food was rather good but not something I would classify as amazing. The staff was quite nice but they are very clear about not doing take away and even rudely said "If you want that kind of food you can get a hot dog across the street". This is a must go in Cambridge. It has a nice location, right by River Cam. Make sure to ask for a seat on patio. The service was a little slow, but it was totally worth it. We shared three different dishes: moroccon chicken breast which had a very nice taste, augmented with couscous, pistachios, and crème d'ail sauce. It was a unique dish and I highly recommend that. The other dish we tried was the Grilled salmon with potatoes, beans, Hollandaise sauce, and baby leaves. It was tasty and all ingredients were fresh but not impressive. The char-grilled sirloin which was served with pommes frites, baby leaf and red onion salad with the creamy Roquefort dressing was also very tasty and well-prepared. For dessert, we tried Marbled white and dark chocolate pyramid which was filled with dark chocolate mousse and raspberry compote, which was legendary. read more

Wife liked this place a lot, and I'm agreeing with her. It is a bit pricey but we did order a 3 course meal with wine to go with it and all was cooked great so it was worth it. I had the lamb which was great along with the sauce that came with it. My wife got the yellowfin which was cooked exactly the way she wanted it. Would recommend finding a place to park on a map before going however because there is zero parking within 2 blocks. read more

This restaurant is a good place to either have a meal or a tea and slice of cake in the afternoon. The food is Mediterranean - the pasta is not bad and you can sit on the little terrace overlooking the Cam and Magdalene bridge. Great location with a lovely view. read more

Me & my friends went to there couple weeks ago, food was great, but the waitress work at there was a little bit racist. She didn't ask for our coat & she didn't smelled then whole time.
