WOW! Usually I go to SuperG for my Korean meals they were closed for an extended time and I decided to try out the famous PePeRo. First off service was great and relatively quick , I love that they have a button for you to press if you need something!! I wish most restaurants did that! Now into the food... I got the Jjolmyeon this is my specialty and my favorite dish I get it all year round at SuperG I will say it's a bit spicier which I LOVE and more liquidy which I'm not use to. Overall not bad definitely a great backup super good. 4/5 on that. Kimchi was really good , was perfectly fermented. then I finished with the Tteokbokki unfortunately I had no more room to finish but I think it's the best tteokbokki I've ever had and usually this is my least favorite dish, I liked it so much I took it Togo! might add cheese on top later for dinner. I also love that it was ACTUALLY SPICYYY usually when a Korean dish is labeled spicy it's not that spicy to me (it's the West African in me) but had a nice kick that I appreciated. 5/5 ALSO CLEAN!!! really clean inside !!!
This is my first time ordering this soup at a restaurant but it really did impress. This is the perfect soup if you're feeling under the weather or if you're sensitive to strong flavors. It's milky and rich but simple umami flavor so it's not overwhelming. It's a bit under salted as well but I appreciated that. The addition of bits of beef and the noodles add nice sustenance to the dish without being heavy. This is a perfect dish to get if you're ordering other dishes that are heavily seasoned, such as the pancake, the mandu, the tteokbokki, etc. This is a very subtle flavored dish, don't try this expecting a punch of flavor. I have noticed other people calling this soup bland but really I think it comes down to understanding what you're ordering and going into it with realistic expectations. Also, this broth makes for great leftovers. I put this in my fridge and the next day it was a thick gelatinous texture- the telltale sign of a perfect bone broth. Heat it up in the microwave for a minute or two and it goes back to a rich milky liquid. Add some scallion, noodles, or leave it plain, and you have a perfect soup again.
Pepero is such a gem. It's a tiny "hole in the wall" spot tucked inside a small Korean/asian grocery store, and the vibe immediately feels authentic and homey. The dining area is small, but the service is genuinely some of the warmest I've experienced in Charlotte. Fast, kind, and attentive without being overbearing. I ordered the kimchi jjigae and it was fantastic. My friends got bibimbap and loved it, and we shared mandu to start, which came out hot and perfectly crispy on the outside. Portions are generous and pricing is very reasonable for the quality. If you're looking for shiny interiors or trendy décor, this isn't that. But if you want amazing Korean food, welcoming service, and a cozy local feel, Pepero deserves a spot on your list. 5 stars.
I've been coming to Pepero Restaurant for a few years. The food is delicious every time! My favorite is haemul soon tofu. It tastes just as I remember it from my years in Korea. The service is always attentive and kind as well. If you want authentic home cooked Korean food, I strongly recommend here. Also, grab some kimpap from store attached to the restaurant. It's only available on weekdays I believe and goes fast.
Be warned! There was no AC and it was HOT inside. Seafood Pancake (5/5): Just a little bit of crispiness and a great ratio seafood, pancake, and green onion. Galbi (4/5): The marinade was very good, but the quality of the meat was just ok. Osam Bulgogi (4/5): I really liked how there were a lot of chewy pieces of said, but the dish was too saucy and the sauce was a bit overpowering (too much gochujang). Jabchae (2/5): Too much star anise flavor and not nearly enough beef. RATING SYSTEM 5 - Great (Need to get this again) 4 - Good (Would get this again) 3 - Ok (Might give this another shot) 2 - Not Good (Won't get this again) 1 - Bad (Telling people to avoid this)
PePeRo amazes me yet again! I went and tried the O Jing uh Dup Bob (Spicy stir fried squid over rice) and it was delicious! The squid is topped with a spicy- sweet sauce that pairs very well with the white rice. I brought my family to try some Korean food for the first time here as well and they loved it so much that they want to stop by here every time we visit Matthews. Service was great as usual, the staff are always smiling, friendly and so welcoming!
Heck ya to this airbrush Korean restaurant. It was all Koreans when we walked in, so I know it had to be good! Great service and good came out piping hot. I asked for more banchans and she refilled them generously! They'd a market attached and had all the basics for a delicious Korean meal, including snacks and drinks!
This secret spot tucked inside a Korean grocery store is the real deal. You see a kid doing homework in the kitchen and instantly know the food's on point. Our food? Wasn't just a meal. It was a trip to another dimension... or should I say, dynasty? A must-visit for anyone craving authentic Korean flavor with a side of whole-in-the-wall perfection!
I mean the best of the best. A classic staple in Charlotte. I usually get the dol sot bibimbap but tried the soft tofu soup and the mackerel is SO YUMMY.
Best Korean food in Charlotte. Kimchi pancake 10/10. Cold noodles I didn't like but my friend raved (I'm personally not a fan of cold foods). Spicy squid over rice soooo good. But then short ribs omg 100000/10
If you are in the area I am telling you to RUN to PePeRo. I'm not gonna gate keep this place anymore . It is always so so good , so cozy and the people working there are so nice and funny, the food is always prepared so well and intentionally
Impulsively tried the Korean restaurant in the back of the store. The food was amazing. I had a bowl of spicy beef soup. It's called. Yookgaejang It was full of flavored ice beef wonderful soup. I really enjoyed it. Have a recommend this place.
Quaint restaurant attached to a (Korean goods) grocery store. The smells pulled us in for lunch as we were browsing in the store. We were not disappointed. Ordered hot pot (crunchy rice!)- is like a bib bim bop but continually cooking. Was fun to see a wide range of folks enjoying Korean food- one older southern gentleman I'd imagine meeting at a local diner was there with his buddy joking with the waitress about the spice of his lunch burning on the way in..."and on the way out"... Good service, good food, small restaurant. We came at the end of a lunch shift.

Eggshells in my Seafood Soft Tofu Soup we asked her nicely if we get a new one because there were too many eggshells in this soup and just took the pot away without a word and roll her eyes. When she came back with the second one it was not as good as the first one. Afterward, she never come back and talked to us. She give us our checks and come to check how much we tip her after seeing her tips she was happy and smiling. So awkward read more
While the food at PePeRo was everything I was hoping it'd be and more, the real standout was our server, Aliyah. She horsed around with us all lunch long, cracking jokes, giving out high fives, and making spot on suggestions, including "stop drinking so much water -- you'll pee the bed!" Our group of 3 dinners ordered a small kimchi pancake to share and I ordered the pork bul go gi. The pancake, despite getting the small, was huge! We all did our best to make a dent and still left 2 pieces behind. The pork bul go gi was delicious! It was spicy but the rice it came with helped cool my mouth down. I'm going to have a hard time not ordering the same thing every time! My friends ordered the bi bim bob and jab chae. I tired and liked both. We also had an assortment of little side dishes. Some were identifiable (is that meat or tofu?!?) but all were tasty. My favorites were the seaweed (which we incorrectly pegged as spinach at first) and bean sprouts/curd. Be sure to spend a little time wandering through the attached market either before or after lunch. I spent a good 10 minutes ogling all the foreign-to-me items and went home with some cookies & cream pocky sticks that were a perfect, sweet treat after that spicy pork! read more

I had driven past PePeRo many times. After my recent trip to Seoul, I had to stop in. It is a grocery store with a restaurant. I shopped and purchased a few items then returned another day to visit the restaurant. I have actually enjoyed the restaurant food a number of times. I make a note of what others are eating (when it looks good) in order to give it a try on my next visit. I enjoy Bi Bim Bob, Seafood Pancake, Dduk Boy, Yook Gae Jang (spicy soup makes my nose run), and Kimchi Fried Rice. I have engaged one family member who loves the Kimchi fried rice as much as I do. Planning a restaurant visit is exciting. Still, there is no way I can eat as much as others. Once I have the soup, I can't each much more. However, I do take home my leftovers and enjoy them for lunch the next day! I am giving PePeRo 4 stars because I have nothing to compare them to in the Charlotte area. That said, they may well deserve 5 stars. read more

We all know that I have a passion for Korean food and will try anywhere that has good reviews. Pepero didn't disappoint! The food is authentic and made with love but the restaurant needs a little bit of updating. The restaurant is inside of an Asian market with a large variety of fresh produce and delectable treats! I ordered the beef bulgogi, japchae and duk buk ki. The bulgogi was a little fatty but overall good flavor. The japchae and duk buk ki were the most authentic flavors I've had in a while. Don't let the outside appearance deter you! Go in and check it out! read more

My friends and I came here for dinner and the food was amazing! I ordered the seafood pancake and they filled it generously with seafood. The tteok-boki was good too. It was chewy and the sauce was savory. This is a great place to come for authentic Korean food. I highly recommend them! read more
Authentic Korean food. Good flavors. The service could be better as I always had to ask for my water to be filled and they did not really pay attention when I visited. The grocery store is great and has many options! Parking: lots of parking on the side Vibe: casual Price: affordable read more

Authentic but opportunities for improvement. The access is confusing- entry is by a side door. The facility is part store part restaurant. Service was so/so. Took forever to get final check - even after asking for it due to scheduling issues. The menu doesn't call out the elements of meal choices just name of item. read more

Awesome! This place is legit so happy to have found great authentic Korean here. Ordered : a large seafood pancake, mandoo, Bulgogi, Kalbi, the rice cakes and veggies, jap che and Ofcorse it all came with rice and two containers of banchan. Everything was totally on point and delicious. The hubby liked the bulgogi the most and I loved the seafood pancake cuz I'd been craving one for like months! But everyone absolutely loved it, don't hesitate going here! read more
I go for one dish mainly, but I hear the Jap Chae is really good. There are very few Korean restaurants, this is one of them. I'm not too impressed with their market choices. They don't even sell curry paste for green or red curry soup. Positive: there is always traffic in & out of this place! I never come & not see people picking up orders or shopping. read more

Every time either my siblings or I come into town to visit our parents, we always come here and bring our parents. There is an Asian market in front with all of the basic necessities, and a small restaurant in back. My brother taught English in South Korea for awhile and married a gal from Taiwan, and they were the ones who brought us all and introduced us to this restaurant. I have gotten the hot pot Bibbimbap each time I have gone. In a hot stone pot, there is rice, beef, vegetables and some seasonings. I usually like to add a bit of the hot sauce to it. With all of their meals come the "appetizers" of cucumbers cut up, kimchi, bean sprouts, rice cakes, and greens. My siblings and my parents always seem to vary what they order. The dining area has about 6 tables and can seat about 35 people. It can get busy during peak meal times. Everything is neat and clean. Service can be a bit slow. I do love this place and look forward to coming every time I am in town. The parking lot is ample, and the entrance is easy to get in and out of. The building itself is nondescript and white. I do love this place. I really really love it and enjoy coming here. read more

The search for authentic food has finally taken me to PePeRo and thank you to all the reviews from the Yelpers. This place brings back memories of Koreatown- Manahttan, and Flushing in New York City. Hole in the wall places that you would drive by and miss, but once you walk in- your nose will take you to the back where the restaurant is located. We were here for lunch and the place was packed. One waitress managed all the tables bring out water, food as well as cleaning up tables. Definitely, a mom and pop establishment and not like the commercial run Asian stores. All you have to do is flag her down and there is a service button which really does works. Definitely, Authentic Korean Food being served here folks. Pucker up and drink extra water for you'll need it after eating the Kimchi. LOL. Enjoy the little side dishes that comes with your entree. My favorite is the Seaweed, and Fish cake-taste like fish balls which are thinly sliced. We ordered the buns (3)- Came out steaming hot and tasty. Barbequed, marinated short ribs and the Bim Bi Bop. After this hearty lunch, we shopped at the store and bought tofu, seaweed, cookies, and tea bags. Will be back for lunch again and more grocery shopping. Not a huge selection with fresh fruits or vegetables, but good frozen items like Miso, Potstickers and dried goods like Ramen Noodles, and sweet/snacks. read more

I was so glad to finally try this place out. It is a great concept, a restaurant and grocery store together. They have many unique items to try. I loved that they bring out small plates of cucumbers, kimchi, rice cakes, greens, and bean sprouts. They were all so delicious. I ordered the yaki udon noodles for my meal. It was really good. The staff is very helpful and friendly. I'm excited to go back and try some other menu items. I was not the biggest fan of the steamed or the yaki mandoo, I would not get again. They are vegetarian options, though, which was nice. Overall, awesome little hidden gem. A must try if you love Asian food as much as I do. read more

Absolutely delicious. Employees are friendly and will even speak a bit of korean with you if you know some so great way for me to practice. Upon first entry it looks old but those are usually the best places to eat! The mom and pop or shall I say and , hahah Anyhow we ordered the (I tried to write it in korean but yelp won't let me, japchae, bulgogi, and tteokbokki).... SOOOOO GOOD. I can't wait to taste all this food when I visit korea and it's actually cheaper hehe. read more

Our family is not fanatical about Korean food, but we do enjoy it and this place is definitely a great find. We basically went with yelp review recommendations on ordering, I got the single portion beef Bulgogi and it was very tasty. The rice was cooked perfectly. My daughter wanted a soup and went with a Short Ribs soup, I'm not sure the full menu title, but it was good although not as flavorful as the beef Bulgogi. Our other daughter got a hot pot dish with vegetables and pork I think, and it was yummy. The bowl gets so hot that it kind of fries the rice and really browns it. Delicious! The hot sauce our server brought in a ketchup bottle was super good. For an appetizer, we had some fried wontons (they were called something else and came in both a fried and non-fried version) that were stuffed with meat and really awesome. If you like Korean food definitely come, and I think it's great to go with the popular and recommended dishes on Yelp. read more

Seated quickly with a party of 6: 4 of our party shared the spicy pork with vegetables and 2 of us shared the beef and rice. 2 of the men in our party had been here last year when we were in town and HAD to come back so we all got to try it - it was beyond my expectations. Good Food, Great Portions, Good Service, and the grocery store was a nice bonus! After you finish lunch or dinner...Try the sandwich in the freezer that is shaped like a fish - YUMMY! I have been wanting to try this place for awhile. I love how quickly this restaurant is. It's right inside a store. The food was so good. We got kimbap from the store and an appetizer of dumplings. I split the "hae mool mahe myun" with my cousin's husband which is spicy stir fry noodle dish for two. She got some kind of seafood soup. I'm knocking down a star because the service wasn't that attentive though they weren't that busy. We had to push the button whenever we needed water or a to go container (pushed the button twice no response had to get up for it). I would definitely go back though because the food was that good and the price is also very reasonable. Usually Korean restaurants are on the higher side from my experience but this one wasn't that bad. read more

The driveway is narrow and sneaks up on you, so be alert. It's a very small restaurant attached to / inside of a large Korean grocery store, so seating is limited, no frills. They serve some Pepsi products, water, Korean coffee, hot tea, but no iced tea. They will only run 3 transactions per table, NO EXCEPTIONS, so it's helpful to bring cash if you're in a larger group. Gratuity is added for groups larger than 5 people. The food is nicely plated, they offer all of the ones you know of from the shows (if you watch kdramas) and it all tastes great! Wait time for the food was reasonable. Hit the grocery store afterwards for soju, harder-to-find recipe ingredients, cookware, gimbap, frozen desserts, etc...if there's something you've been looking for with no luck, these guys probably carry it, and the prices are very reasonable: I bought a HUGE basket of stuff for a little over $100 and was very surprised it wasn't more. Will eat and shop here again read more

Their food always hits the mark! Took my mom when she was visiting from Texas and she loved it also! Their side dishes are always good. I'm not great with spice so they make it a bit more mild for me which is the perfect amount of spice! There's a nice little grocery store inside which I love grabbing snacks, drinks, ramen, etc. to try out. read more
