I have really taken to doing a large percentage of my weekly shop at Aldi. It's way less expensive than Harris Teeter, they have a great selection of meats and dairy, and it's way less expensive than Harris Teeter. I may have said that twice because it's really true. No, Aldi doesn't have everything but what they do have makes up the core of my shop. Probably 80% of what is on my grocery list in in stock at Aldi and I'm thinking that the price at the register is maybe 60% of what I do at HT. It's a real deal. Aldi keeps their prices down by not having a wide variety of items, usually just one brand. They do not bag your groceries, that's on you. They do not give away their grocery bags, so either buy them or bring your own reusable bags. And always remember to bring a quarter to borrow a shopping cart which you get back. Decided to stop by this Aldi on a Sunday to look for something in particular I had in mind. The inside was super clean, and everything was organized. They did not have what I was looking for but ended up grabbing a few miscellaneous things that I saw that were a bit cheaper than even Walmart. I honestly didn't really see an employee except for one who was stocking up a shelf. I was surprised to see that Aldi now has self checkouts, which I had to use because they did not have cashiers at all. I was hoping to look at their non food options as sometimes I've found really good finds from laundry products to outside gardeing things. Unfortunately, they did not have a good selection of those things. This aldi did consist mainly of just grocery items. No big deal, now i know. They have an open parking lot with plenty of parking options. Other than that, normal Aldi finds nice store, and I would go back if I'm ever in the area. read more

There is an uncanny force that keeps me from putting Aldi's top of mind when it comes to groceries and I do not know why. Every time I go, I love it. I can do almost 100% of my grocery shopping in this store and it takes a fraction of the time, and cost, to do it. Produce is great, veggies are great, options are endless. I recently went to get the wine and beer advent calendars (yes, I scored both #winning). and I walked out with a buggy full of groceries and needed to go nowhere else. Two tips: 1) Don't forget your quarter to get a shopping card. They have them locked and require a quarter to release. I forget and I had my son walking the store holding groceries so high he couldn't see, lol. 2) Bring your own bags. They sell bags but no need to incur the extra expense. Don't expect all of the frills and big-box store names. Good products at great prices. read more

Maybe they were having two (2) off days but I'd avoid if possible. Monday, I was told the trucks hadn't made it. Wednesday, nothing better and we were hunting those grapes. We've been down this road before. I hate grocery shopping. It's a necessary evil, however, and it must be done. So I might as well save some cash in the process. And there we have Aldi, another feat of German engineering (the same German food company behind Trader Joe's, actually). These stores are no-frills. You "rent" your cart for a quarter (keeps them from straying in the parking lot). Most items are displayed in stadium-cut boxes. You bag and box your own groceries - and buy the bags to do it. You won't find a large selection of items; they stock the "staples." The aisles are small, there are usually a lot of customers in the store, and your odds of encountering all the rude, pushy shoppers are pretty high. So why shop there? Because you leave with a shopping cart full of stuff for only $30 - if that. If you aren't married to having recognizable brands in your cupboards, this is the place to shop. This particular Aldi is actually very well kept and surprisingly clean; they all aren't this nice. So grab your reusable bags, a quarter, and get ready to shove your way to savings. read more

I love this ALDI for the selection, cleanliness and friendly staff. The one at Idlewild is much closer to home but some produce is not always in stock. That store seems a bit smaller in square footage. Not sure if this is the case or because the Matthews location serves more customers so they can turn over produce inventory more quickly and keep it fresh. There is also a larger selection of quality wine in Matthews and you can't beat the great prices at Aldi. read more

I really appreciate the renovations. The store looks cleaner and not only that it's brighter and more organized. For the most part everything is usually fresh and plentiful. I love the selection of wine as well as the random Aldi finds. The salmon is also very fresh and reasonably priced . Sometimes the lines are long and the workers aren't always welcoming. I frequent this Aldi whenever I am in the area. On my most recent visit (on a Sunday), I needed two items. I went in, grabbed them, grabbed an item that wasn't on the list, and was out of the store in less than 5 minutes. I have acclimated to the new format of the stores that allows me to shop effectively and efficiently on every visit. On occasion, you may have to wait in line for a few minutes but it's usually not much more than that. read more

I've been shopping here regularly for some time and I've come to notice the positive things about the store. The produce is quite good given the fantastically low prices. Every so often they won't have what I need such as on a recent trip they did not have any shallots but when I asked someone to help me find them he was very accommodating and apologetic when he found they had none currently. The people who work at the store are efficient but friendly and do what they can to help you. At the end of the day, you can't beat the prices. And you make the trade off for what you get. Substantial savings when I shop at aldi. Yes you have to bring a quarter for a grocery cart but you get it back at the end. You also need to bring your own bags or you can pay at the register for reusable ones. They also have plenty of boxes from stocking the items so you can grab one of those if you don't have a lot to get. Some of their selection varies week by week so be sure to check the weekly specials to see if there something that you want that week before it's gone. My only complaint is that sometimes they are out of produce and I have had a lot of issues with getting fresh green onion here (always seems to be wilted). read more

Years ago in Elgin Il, I used to go to Aldi's for School Treats only, they had a lot of cases of pop and drinks and treats. I never looked at much of anything else. What a change has occurred , I realize that it is a hot grocery store in Europe and that it has the parent company for Trader Joes. But Aldi itself has upgraded and upscaled its self right into the major store facilities. The have gone green and also have no GMO products in the meat and poultry. Their Produce is fresh and great! Lots more specialty items now and really nifty household and even clothing products. I am heading their way today and excited to see what the specialty's are for the week, I have even found Gino's East Pizza from Chicago and Beyond Beef! What's cubic and crowded and alternately rewarding and frustrating? Why yes, the answer is Aldi! 20 points for the gentleman in the back. Don't get me wrong: this is a nice Aldi, so far as Aldi goes. It seems like Buckingam Palace compared to the Monroe Aldi, for example. It does, however, come with all of Aldi's quirks: -Everything's pretty dang cheap, although some stuff is really good and some stuff is really bad (avoid the peanut butter). -You'll find stuff you didn't expect to find, and then be unable to find things you *did* expect -You have to bring your own bags and put down a security deposit on the cart, but the cashiers are shockingly fast. They could get through 20 people in the time it would take a Walmart cashier to finish with one customer. -Some of your fellow customers are extremely rude. I've been shoved and had my shopping bag stolen. It's just food, people. There's plenty to go around. Simmer down. If your wallets pinched, Aldi is a worthwhile stop. Just make sure you shop defensively. read more

In general, I like Aldi. I especially like that I can find a lot of my favorite items from Trader Joe's for cheaper. I never do all of my shopping here (or at TJ's), but it's really good for odds and ends or certain seasonal items (baking ingredients, pumpkins, apple cider, etc.). With the deals, however, come headaches. Without fail, you will see people who fail to notice the flow of the store and navigate every aisle in reverse, and you'll see a plethora of other rude and clueless individuals. Aldi is where I always go to do my grocery shopping. I moved to this side of town and this is my new "local" Aldi. This location is almost always busy no matter what day or time I go. As far as selection goes, I've never had an issue with getting any of the staples that I've come to love at Aldi. The staff here does a great job keeping the shelves stocked. They usually have a few people working the registers so the lines go fast. Last time I was here, I had a sweet old lady stop me and ask me if something in my cart was any good. After I told her it would be the first time buying it, she proceeded to tell me how to cook it. Some might have been annoyed by this but I loved it. She talked about a pressure cooker - which I haven't seen since I was kid and my grandmother would cook in one! Loved this. read more

Good selection of food items for very low prices, lower than walmart in many cases. They have slowly started to add more stores which seem bigger and a little nicer, but remain harder to get to than a plethora of other options. Their groceries are often all natural and sometimes organic and the corporate side of them is connected with Traders Joes who we love dearly. read more

Went to Aldi last week and cashier was not wearing a mask, even though Aldi states all their employees are required to wear a mask. Contacted Aldi by email, received call and they said they would notify district manager. Went again today and same cashier had a mask but not on properly -nose not covered. Spoke to assistant manager who was quite unpleasant. Aldi is not protecting their customers, nor their staff. read more
