Another excellent Harris Teeter that has everything you could possibly need. It's clean, it's organized, it's very well stocked. Produce, grocery, meats, seafood. I had already done most of my shop at a competitor store nearby *cough* but the things that they don't stock, we came over here to Teeter. Some good deals in the produce section and I got a few things there, a few name brand beverages that my daughter prefers and we got a few other bits from the condiments and sauces aisles. This Harris Teeter is way better than the one I normally go to close to my house. We went to the farmers market and got a bagel, so we stopped here to get some cream cheese. We got that, but I was also able to find some specialty items that I had been looking for like 3D Doritos and Topped Ben & Jerry's. It's a bigger store than the one by my house which I'm sure is why they have more products. The parking area is a bit of a zoo, but that's normal for a grocery store. I wanted to give a shout out to 2 extraordinary employees at the Harris Teeter in the Matthews North Carolina location. I was an early shopper 4/15/23 Friday morning. It was well before 8 AM. I was trying to get a last-minute birthday gift for a co-worker and I was a little flustered racing for time. However, thank goodness for great workers such as Maria at The Bakery and Troy at the Front Checkout. They were both so helpful in assisting me. Maria came from behind the counter, asked if she could help, offered some suggestions and even engraved the cake for me. How rare is that! As for Troy, he saw me coming with those large balloons and few items at checkout. Well I guess you really remember you live in the South when you shop at this Harris Teeter location. I was just called a Chinese Bitch by an old Caucasian lady (customer) , I'm not even Chinese . I asked her if she could share her cart wipes she took from the dispenser , mind you she took all of them . None of the Caucasian staff greeted me but they made sure to ask other customers if they needed any help , I left a bad review on this location years ago after receiving a bad experience at the grocery pickup . I spoke with a minority worker here to see if my treatment was exaggerated by my personal feelings and he said he never saw so much racism until he started working at this location . I like this location. All of the employees are really friendly and helpful. They have a large selection of meat, poultry seafood. Sign up for their emails so you can see what is on sale this week. The produce is fresh. I like the layout of the store. They will offer to take your groceries to your car if need be. There are self checkout lines if you wish to expedite your shopping. The freezer section has some ok meals if you're in a rush for preparing dinner some nights. Lots of different salsas. The meat section will give you ideas on grilling. Just got home and pulled a pre-sealed product out of the Harris Teeter shopping bag to eat it and noticed some discoloration of the product. I looked at the product bag for an expiration date and it said Feb. 2nd. Isn't it the stores responsibility to pull expired food off of the shelves? So your telling me no one in this store has gone through these shelves good enough to take expired food off the shelves since at least February?? DISGUSTING!! Seems like this Harris Teeter has been here forever. I know it's frequented a lot by Matthews residents, but since new HTs have been opening up in the outskirts of town, it doesn't seem like this one is as busy as it used to be. Probably a good thing... lines and headaches are the last thing you need when going to a grocery store. Yesterday, when I visited, I pretty much had no interaction with anyone since I didn't ask for help to look for items and I went through U-scan. Nice and convenient, but a little scary at the same time. I guess I'm just old skool... It doesn't hurt to have a brief conversation with someone you don't know - you never know what you may learn. This store is very clean and pretty convenient. It does seem a little on the dark side. Maybe cause it's one of the older stores, but lack of lighting isn't really what you go to a grocery for - but you at least need to see what you are buying. read more

I hate grocery shopping. There are few tortures more painful. The Harris Teeter in Matthews, though, makes the experience bearable for me. I can find nearly everything I could hope to need, it doesn't break the bank, and the staff are friendlier than many other retailers in Charlotte. This location is open 24 hours per day too, which is perfect for a non-shopper like me who would like to avoid the crowds. The selection of products is stellar - incredibly fresh produce and a selection that rivals the farmer's market, fresh meats, a full-service deli, bakery, sushi bar, sandwiches, and salads. You can also find a great assortment of international items and locally grown/made products. Despite what many people feel about Harris Teeter, the prices are not astronomical either. They are great about putting lots of items on sale, and give deep discounts to their e-mail club members (free to join!). For the couponer, they offer double manufacturer coupons and frequently put items on "buy 2, get 3 free" sales. Seniors get an extra discount on Thursdays, too. In my own personal comparison shopping, I've actually found some things at Harris Teeter with a lower regular retail price than the more value-minded competitors. But, like any good experience, it's the people that make it worth returning. The cashiers are speedy and very attentive to wait times in line and management are a known presence at the registers and on the floor. The department staff are incredibly friendly and helpful (especially those in the bakery, produce, and floral departments). They make sure you have everything you need and, for a regular like me, make an effort to get to know you. Ya know, thinking about it all like this, I might learn to like grocery shopping. Harris Teeter is where it's at (at least for grocery shopping) as far as I am concerned. Supermarket options on this side of Matthews are the Teeter, Food Lion, and Walmart. Food Lion's produce section is basically non-existent and their store brand is iffy. Walmart is... well, Walmart. Therefore, it is to be avoided if at all possible. So that leaves Harris Teeter. It has a reputation for being costly, and some items are, but their sales are amazing (today I got $120 worth of groceries for $60) and their store brands are inexpensive and quite good, so I don't feel as compelled to get brand name items as I do at other places. And although I am generally broke, I am willing to pay a little more for clean floors, orderly shelves, and employees who actually make an effort to be helpful. Then there's the fact that it's a local company, not a faceless corporation (like Walmart) or owned by a Belgian entity (like Food Lion). This particular store is one of the nice, big ones, open 24/7. It has an expansive, diverse produce section and a full service meat/fish counter. The stock is diverse with many organic and ethnic options. I'm an enthusiastic home cook, and I have never been unable to find an uncommon or obscure ingredient here. My only reservations are that sometimes the really good sales run out (although you can get a rain check), and the parking lot is relatively narrow, and therefore can lead to some close calls when encountering elderly or distracted drivers. read more

On the surface, this seemed like a very nice store. I was visiting and a 3 day visit turned to an 8 day visit. We bought raw/ frozen wings on Tuesday. Thursday afternoon they were rotten. I like this location because of the hours. The Harris Teeter near me is not a 24-hour location, so I come to this location for all of my random pre-work grocery shopping. Because of my early morning or late night visits, the normal checkout lanes are closed, and I am limited to the self-checkout. I usually prefer the self-checkout for small purchases, but not at this location. Nearly every time I go, there is something wrong with one of the self-checkout lanes, from them being unable to accept a VIC card to being unable to accept certain forms of payment. I can usually find one that is working, but when a random error pops up (item not detected in bagging area even though it is there, etc.), the employee capable of overriding the error is nowhere to be found. When he is found (usually the same guy), he is very unhelpful and condescending. The management here needs to get it together with their late night/early morning crew and their self-checkout lanes. If there were another place on my route to work that was open at this time, I would go there. Alas, I have no other options, so I will continue to come to this location. read more

I just went to this Harris teeter for some basic things like toilet paper and paper towels and cleaning products. Not to my surprise they were out of like everything. Well I was able to find some paper towels. This all all happened on Saturday March 28. I grabbed my limit of 2 paper towels and went to finish my shopping. As I went to checkout the checkout lady told me to stop and wait as I was walking up to present my items. So I did. I looked and noticed there was no one in front of me and she didn't seem to have any issues going on. But I waited. It took probably 30 seconds to 1 minute but in that moment it feels like forever. She finally said ok come up. I rolled my items up and stepped around to the pay spot. As I did she very rudely said step around in front of the glass. I didn't notice they had new glass windows up in front of the register for helping with germs due to the virus. I stepped in front but felt like it could have been said a little nicer than what was said. As I stood there I looked at the other pay spots and noticed no one else was being made to stand there. She was almost done scanning everything when a noise got my attention to the right. It was 2-3 employees who were getting there stuff ready to go home. I noticed in a few of there hands they had toilet paper. Very interesting considering I had just come from that area and there was none there. Some even had more than what the customers were allowed to buy. Now I understand they could have bought them this morning when they got there. One that note not exactly fair that they get to do that because they know when the truck will be there and the average customer does not. There for it's just luck for us to get it. Besides that it does not look good for employees to walk out with an item that we the customers can not find right in front of us. It's all about perception. And the perception I got that day was terrible. There are tons of people out there doing everything they can to find things like this and to go somewhere that says they don't have any and then to see employees walking out with those products, makes you not want to shop there anymore. This is the best Harris Teeter that I've been to so far when it comes to size and selection and quality of produce. The one closest to my home is really piddly. I just want some fresh cilantro that isn't half-rotted! This HT has a way bigger floral, deli, and bakery than I've seen. I am from Seattle, so I am such a granola yuppie. I want my vegetarian foods and I want organic this and that with no high fructose corn syrup. And, yeah, sometimes I want the weird international foods you're not sure what to do with, much less pronounce. This place seems to have most of what I want. If I want super fancy, I'd expect to have to go to a super fancy place. Whole Foods isn't that far away. What I really like is a lot of the produce is local. Today there was even a section where the boxes were labeled with what farm they came from and how far away from Matthews it was. That is very cool! That definitely entices me to shop here more often. One thing I'd like to see is maybe up the ante on the customer service. It was pretty much nonexistent. I kind of expect to be greeted or at least smiled at by the people working here. What I got instead were people who looked away from me very quickly and avoided eye contact. I watched other people go through it, too. It's a pity because it took me a while to find something I needed. I would ask a clerk, but EVERYONE AVOIDED THE CUSTOMERS. What happened to that famous southern hospitality? While I love Harris Teeter over the other local stores, I still think they are way over priced, but when you'r looking for certain high end items, this is where you have to go. I also really love their tomato basil soup they sell in the deli area... matter of fact, ate that for dinner tonight with some Wasa crackers... yum. Oh and the pastrami turkey (Boars Head) de-lish. Very expensive place to get groceries. At one time the difference was the service but now expect long lines and to have to checkout yourself. It takes way to long to get in and out. Go to Aldi or Walmart and save enough to buy your spouse a dinner. HT, you must wake up and take the service to another level given your prices otherwise you will continue to up massive market share. Past customers like me now only use HT for 1-2 urgent items but as soon as we have more convenient options, you will lose even that. read more

They used to have really good macaroons but for some reason they stopped selling them. Also the cookies in the front of the stores are coated in sugar, I wouldn't recommend children eating it. They do however make a delicious sandwich. read more

This is my first time writing a negative review. TWO ITEMS I NEED TO DISCUSS.. The sushi that they sell is good aside from the stale rice but, the main reason I am writing this review today is because my wife just bought some crabs today for me and my Father in law for FATHERS DAY. HUGE MISTAKE. The crabs were rotten...On top of that I tried calling the manager and the customer service line at least 4 times each and the phone just rings, you can't even leave a message???? I am not one to write a negative review but when I cant even contact anyone at the store to let them know they are selling rotten crabs I guess I have no choice but to do this. I have been shopping at this location for almost 9 years and I've about had it! I have watched the quality of service deteriorate significantly. The worker bees couldn't be more friendly or helpful, but the mangers and their cliques have to go. I just bagged a week's worth of my own groceries while I counted 6 employees milling about the customer service desk. 2 of these were managers!!
