Brake system Flush-my Toyota Camry takes 32 oz of fluid. I was charged for 32oz, but watched the guy do it, and he only took out about a cup of fluid-Total! I spoke to the service manager Jim, who said the system doesn't take more that a pint, and that it was unnecessary to add more that once to the master cylinder to top off. I go in for a wheel alignment. After 2 hours she comes out and says, "we can't do your alignment". At what point I asked did you know you couldn't do the alignment? What's needed was outer tie rods, and control links. The price quoted was 1090.00 (what in the whole heaven and hell) Pepboys is a ripoff!! don't waste your time. the "manager" Joe is useless came for a plug in August that took FOUR HOURS even though I called ahead. that guy was at least apologetic and helpful. came back the other day for more tire issues since I could not get my tires off; my tire's key to the locks was gone. his answer was "well it's been over a month so..." congrats. it took a month to continue to have issues? where is my key. had my receipt yesterday when he checked my vehicle for the key himself - spoiler: it wasn't there. only to come ba today to have to go SOMEWHERE ELSE for the replacement he asked me to pick up today because he did nothing yesterday. Stole my belongings I dropped my truck off to have a battery changed. They had to keep it overnight but had my truck back first thing in the morning. Before leaving the parking lot I noticed my truck was a lot messier than I left it. It was then that I noticed two bags and other items were missing. I went back inside only to be brushed off that they are not reasonable for the stolen items but they would look at the camera. Conveniently enough the cameras were broken. They brushed me off again and said there was nothing they could do. I asked how could they be so careless with someone's vehicle leaving it unlocked and vulnerable to possible theft. Or an employee took it upon themselves to steal my belongs. I do not recommend Pepboys, you've lost my service and I will tell as many people as I can not to go here. read more

this place is ran by crooks. i went in to have my headlight and fog light replaced in my 2015 jeep cherokee. They told me it would cost nearly 500 for parts and labor because "we have to remove the bumper so the job will take a couple of hours''. i was shocked. I went home and went straight to youtube to see how complicated the process was. Turns out its super simple and ANYONE can do it. I bought the parts from walmart and replaced the lights my self. I saved myself about 450 dollars. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. They will rip you off!! My father-in-law is a mechanic; he requested to have a complete check-up of our car including checking the fluid levels. They told us they needed to change the rotor, the brake pads, and the thermostat, and flush the antifreeze. My father-in-law estimated that it would take about 2-3 days to finish the job. So imagine our surprise when we got a phone call saying the job was done five hours later. The amount they charged us was $1200. My father-in-law opened the hood of our car, as he was skeptical about the thermostat; it was untouched. The upper hose was untouched and the radiator reservoir was empty. The brake fluid on the reservoir was half-empty as well. They did not change any of the brake pads. My father-in-law demanded that they hoist the car so he can look at the rotors, and guess what, the rotors and pads were FACTORY INSTALLED, not the new rotors they were charging us. My father-in-law confronted them, and they had no excuse except that they told us that the person who serviced us was having "Family Troubles." They refunded the money for services and parts, but still had the audacity to charge us for the tires. Earlier in the year, my wife was having brake problems and they told her the brake lines and pads needed changing, and they charged us $400 for that; my father-in-law showed me that all they did was fill up the brake fluid, the pads were still FACTORY INSTALLED. So they had ripped us off and we had no idea! These people have been ripping off customers for years, I have no doubt about that. My wife supposedly had new parts placed over the course of several years, but my father-in-law popped the hood and noted that nothing was new. DO NOT GO TO THESE PEOPLE. I am going to report them to the Better Business Bureau now. read more

Went into here looking for windshield wiper replacements on two separate occasions with two different experiences. The first time they did their job and sold me what I wanted while the second time (different person) asked what I needed, signed me up for rewards card and said O could drive a round back to have the blades replaced free of charge. No negatives at all just the two experiences that were quite different. read more

When you get off the speedline and see that your tire is completely flat, what do you do? You risk ruining the rim and drive the 30 seconds to the Pep Boys. At least, that's what you would do if you're me. The guys were really friendly and were able to quickly change my tire and get me back on the road. They didn't try to up-sell me to the highest tier of tires, they asked me what kind of driving I do, how often I drive, how far I drive and then suggested the tire that was best suited for me. Thankfully, it was on the cheaper end. If you are going to be waiting around for your car, I suggest bringing a book or a magazine, because the TV in the waiting room is usually on Maury or some irritating talk show like that. (At least it has been the last few times I was in there) I've also stopped in here for wiper blades and bulbs and the parts guys were more than happy to install them for me at no charge. Just got some new tires for my car because I was driving around on 3 cracking tires and a donut. Because I drive a lot for work so I can't afford to have a blowout or a flat on the freeway. I scheduled mine about an hour in advance, time enough to travel to the area from work after they confirmed they had my tire size (195, 60, 14). I didn't mind waiting (not long) because tires are important and I wanted it taken care of asap. I killed some time looking at the car radios and asked one of the guys working out front how could I tell if one of those are compatible with my car. The answer I got: I have no idea. And that was it. He was a young kid, didn't catch his name but he was thin with black hair, but holy crap is this your first job?! At least offer to find out or figure it out with me. Anyway, Frank and Gabriel were awesome with service and work on my tires. Gabriel was even nice enough to wipe down my headlights which had gotten pretty groddy. Much appreciated! This place is a joke. Had a minor slow leak in one tire. Did online schedule to make it easier and dropped it off before store opened around 7:00am. Was surprised I hadn't heard anything by 10:30 so I called to get status. On hold for 15 minutes and finally hung up and walked the few blocks to store. Waiting in line for 5 minutes plus while service guy slowly took care of customer in front of me while also telling elaborate stories of how much that part would have cost her at the dealer, yadda yadda. Finally it is my turn and after searching he lets me know that no one has touched the car. No one ever looked at the computer or the early drop off bin to see that my car should even be worked on. I asked for my keys as I will go somewhere else. They sarcastically thanked me for my business - nice customer service. This is what happens when no one gives a damn and they all get their paychecks regardless of their productivity or customer service. I only live a couple of blocks away so it would be convenient, but I'm done with them. If this is the way they deal with a minor thing, I would never feel comfortable having them do any work on my vehicles. read more

Manager was courteous and understanding with a coupon I had and made sure it went through, after previous unsuccessful attempts. My car had some occasional engine rumbling, and we're on a road trip so I brought my car in for their Manager's #3 special and a diagnostic. After paying $194 for the "special" and "diagnostic" they wanted to charge me $700 for replacing the spark plugs and wires that go to the spark plugs, and a "4-step cleaning of the throttle body." I could do the spark plugs and wires myself in 20 minutes with $60 plugs and wires from Advanced Auto Parts, and I doubt the rest of it involves anything other pouring a couple of cleaners into the gas tank... What really makes me drop the rating to 1 star though as that they didn't give me what I paid for. The "Manager's Special" involved various checks, and rotating the tires. I checked which tires were where before I gave them the car. My most worn tire was on my rear driver side, and the other 3 were pretty new. They didn't rotate the the tires... They don't do what they say, and they treat you like an idiot. read more

Got my 2010 Honda Accord serviced here around Nov 2015. It had run 5000 miles and I decided to get full service done. They charged me $60 for the service. Now, after driving for about 2000 miles, I see maintenance indicator lit up on my dashboard saying oil life 15℅. When I called in to check how that could have happened, the only response I got was to have it checked with Honda. At this point, I'm not even sure if they did any service on my vehicle! Average auto part store, good selection of OTC cleaning products. I purchased a set of tires online from Pepboys.com with the Buty 3 get 1 free promotion, manufacturer rebate, and 10% discout for purchasing online! With the already average tire prices I was able to get a set of performance tires for the same cost as average all-seasons. Pepboys tire center was quick to delivery the tires and had them installed witin an hour. If you can wait to the sale or are nearing the end of your tires, Pepboys should be considered for a set of replacements. read more

Very expensive oil changes. Brought in wife's Malibu, takes synthetic oil. Was $90 something. I saw 5 quarts in a container in store on sale for $18.95. Rock you on the service fee. Waited and hour. Called jiffy lube, they check your whole car, add fluid to washer, check tires,etc for $81. Adios pep boys. Next oil change won't be here. read more

Been to quite a few locations before, was just passing through and was buying some items. There were no less than 5 people behind the parts counter, nobody up front, and none of them spoke nor offered to ring up the purchase. So I randomly chose a girl, "Can you help me?" Her reply, "With what?" "With my purchase?" "No, I can't." Very bizarre. This was a Jack Nicholson moment, but I refrained. Normally, I would just walk out without buying anything, but I had one of those $10 off coupons. So I chose another guy, "Can you help me?" He really didn't say anything, but began ringing the items up, and completely disregarded the coupon. I sometimes wonder how these places stay open, unless they have captive customers. Outstanding service after a flat tire AND a flat spare. Car got towed to Pep Boys in Stratford at 7pm and the folks there simply could not have been nicer or more helpful. Didn't have the correct tire available but got me the closest thing and fixed the spare for free. Very friendly and fast service. read more

My wife and I have been there several times. The prices seem pretty good, and being within walking distance, I have no problem getting back home after dropping it off. Sometimes it does take longer than they expected. An oil change took an hour longer than expected and they gave me a 33% discount. My wife had to replace the battery, and when she mentioned she was a student, they gave her a 10% discount. All in all, friendly people. read more

I have been working on cars myself for a while now and I am far for a mechanic, but the coolant leak in my truck was obviously from the water pump gasket. Took it into Pepboys in Startford, NJ on a Saturday because I wanted to have it ready for work on Monday. I would've done it myself but was willing to pa for the convenience of having it completed by Sunday. I was quoted $450 to replace pmp, gaskets, and a flush and fill. A bit steep, but I needed it completed. I received a call from them Sunday afternoon stating that the thermostat gasket was also leaking. I reasoned that it was possible that I over looked that leak and it was smarter to replace the thermostat and gasket while the radiator was drained to save money in the long run. I was quoted an additional $75 creating a total of $528. Again, I needed it completed so I reluctantly agreed to it. Not much longer afterwards I received another call staing that one of the bolts holding the thermostat housing to the block broke. I knew this was a common occurrence, but. Was shocked to hear that fixing this would raise the cost to almost $800 and that was after the gentleman I was speaking to took 10% off because "he was willing to work with me." I was appalled that the reduced price of working with me was double the original quoted price. I was very unhappy to find out that the truck would not be done in time for me to go to work on Monday morning. I ended up having to take the day off because I was promised that everything would be completed by Monday afternoon and that I would receive a call from the manager Monday morning by 9:30 am. Not only did I not receive this call, but when I called at 11:30, I was informed that 2 additional bolts broke during the removal of the lower intake. This would postpone all of the repairs further until possibly Monday night. It is currently Monday night at 7:18 pm and I have attempted to call the service center twice looking for a status update. I was placed on hold both times and was never helped. This is unacceptable and will never go to Pepboys again for service or parts. I pray that I get my truck back in running condition. I now have to make arrangements to borrow a car to get to work tomorrow. I am also looking forward to disputing the charges on my credit card after paying what I am expecting to be over $1000 for a $40 water pump and $5 gasket. This is extortion. read more

Bought a set of 4 Cooper tires from pep boys Strafford, nj 13 months ago. Had two flats with two different tires. the second tire was not fixable. Was lied to by the pepboys service person. He told me the tire had 60% treadlife left and would apply discount to new tire (same as original). His replacement tire with discount was $50.00 higher than the original. I stated this was ridiculous and was on my way out to get a tire elsewhere when suddenly told me my tire had 75% treadlife left and the replacement would only cost me 17.00 more than the original. I needed to get to work and agreed to that price. When I checked out, a different person wrung me up at $8 less than I paid for the original. It seemed slimy and it was. I complained to pep boys corporate to no avail and they will not post my review of the tire. First and last time buying tires from pep boys. Back to BJ's where they replace tires for these kinds of things... AT NO COST. read more
