I drive for Lyft and this shop is near my house and I take it there to get a service. the worker Dustin with my last visit went above and beyond and contacted Hertz where I rent my car and for Hours he was going back-and-forth in the phone to get my rear brakes changed and my wheels changed because originally I just went for oil change , the fact that he didn't have to do that and he did show his honesty and safety and concerned for his clients when I went to pick it up he told me this and the first thing he said was for your safety cause you're on the road and I wanna make sure you get from point A to point B safely and home safely so I recommend this place thank you Dustin ! read more

Came in for a scheduled appointment at 11:30 AM. The older man at the front didn't even acknowledge me, and continuously interrupted the person who was actually trying to help me. After a 10-minute wait, I was finally told it would take three to four hours--just for a diagnostic. What's the point of scheduling an appointment if they're going to treat walk-ins better? Nothing was done to my car. No update, no follow-through. Just complete disregard for my time and presence. This experience was unacceptable and I'll be sharing it across all my platforms. With every fiber of my being, I would avoid this place at all cost due to the management, and his name is fresh in my mind, Harold, Elauria or something close to that spelling, he is the worst part of that business. His disrespectful, he's rude, he's bad for business, and I will never set foot in that PeP Boys shop or any other Pep Boys for that matter after that experience. This guy was beyond rude, and I took my car in for new tires and decided to get a oil change and days after that I had warning lights going off in my car for my engine I had never experienced before . I took my car back there multiple times to get this issue addressed and I couldn't even get an appointment to be seen, Harold would explain even though I wasn't talking to him that I needed to leave my car for 5 to 7 days there at the shop before they would even get to it. I am not one of these multimillionaires running around with six cars so I refused. It was their screw up and they refused to fix it, and eventually cost me almost $300 more at Evans tire for them to fix it right after PeP Boys damage a sensor , I think it's called a sending sensor, which term cost a fault or error in my system. Man this pains me to do this, but this can't go without being put out there. I have been a long term returning customer since 2014 maybe even 2013. Never any issues always received good fair service. They've worked on more than 6 vehicles I've had or cycled through the years, but I'm not sure what's been going on recently. They charged me for work on my master cylinder knowing my vehicle had an open recall for which I never got a notification from ford for. A couple months after Pepboys replaced my Master Cylinder, I took it to get smogged as it was due, and the recall popped up and the smog guy let me know. This prompted me to begin a refund through ford motor company. The smog company said that pep boys should have said something and yet they said nothing. Even when I took the truck into Ford after finding all this out to get the recall certified they told me the same thing. That Pepboys should have said something, but they didn't. When I called pep boys to address this matter the guy tried to bullshit me and say they don't check vehicles for recalls. Given that I've been coming here for years I know that's bullshit, because on all my other invoices from my other vehicles that they worked on had them, and I even sanity checked by looking at the old documents and sure enough; recall info is stapled to the documents behind it for other jobs they've done. When I called the guy on it, he proceeded to get shitty with me. Sorry you couldn't stump the chump. This whole time I'm he's talking to me I'm being cordial, which I had all the right not to. So I finally told the guy that I have been a 10 year customer to this location and he then calmed down a bit. But smugly told me that I just needed deal with it with ford motor company which that was the path I was on anyway. The fact of the matter is that my truck was unusable for several days and I forked out 800 dollars to have it repaired with them, for which I will get a refund but it's been a lengthy process and 800 isn't money that is taken well to be thrown away for several months before getting refunded. Not to mention the time I've had to invest to recoup my loss and the inconvenience. Needless to say they probably lost me as a returning customer. read more

DON'T GO HERE. Took my car there last month. Mentioned to an employee named Chris (#1) that my car had issues starting. It was pretty evident that when you turn the key that the engine took time to turn over and start. They did a diagnostic and the report said nothing was wrong with the car. Later that week, car wouldn't start in my work parking garage. Hundreds of dollars later and couple of days of not being able to use my car, I had my car towed back to Pep Boys. Next day after dropping off my car, another employee Chris (#2) said he needed to do another diagnostic. Found out that the starter needed to be replaced. It was replaced. If there was more scrutiny and due diligence done upfront, it would've saved me time and money. Will definitely not come back for any work. Will never recommend to anyone. read more

Completely messed up my truck after having the air conditioning serviced. They returned it to me with a check engine light (which wasn't there before) and said that I would have to repay to have it checked out. Altogether I was charged 1,006$ and my truck was returned to me in far worse condition. The store manager Harold was zero help and likely doesn't realize that he has incompetent people working on vehicles that come through the shop. Snapped vacuum line that was left freely hanging and unplugged, serpentine belt shredded and wrapped around my radiator fan, new check engine light all for the price of 1,006$. read more

Disappointed with their customer service. Called on a Friday to set an appointment to get my radiator flushed. The person helping me over the phone to speak the appointment mentioned that they hand openings at 8am Sunday. So I accept only because my kids had a game at 9. My spouses honda accord air conditioning stopped blowing cold air. Brought it here for an estimate. Was told the cost would be $1200 for a new condenser. I told my spouse to call Eskimo in El Cajon and get a price as $1200 is way too much! Eskimo said bring it on over, it will be about $580. We picked his honda up from Pep Boys and he still had to pay them the $50 because we are not willing to spend an extra $600+ for the same service elsewhere. Stay away from Pep Boys! They price gouge and charge for a freaking simple estimate, oh but if you want to pay double for the service, they will put the $50 towards the outrageous bill. I've been coming here for a couple of years for my regular oil changes. The guys here make everything so convenient - I can schedule my appointment online, they always have a package deal for my oil change plus if you grab the coupon online, you can use that as well. Great if you are looking for ways to save $$. I can usually get in and out in just under an hour. The waiting area is clean. You can watch tv while you wait or make a fresh cup of coffee with the Keurig. Johnny has helped me the last couple of times I've come in. I recently had a lot of changes happen and though they are for the better, my finances have taken a hard hit and I'm just relying on faith. I was in need of a tire shop to put some wheels on which already had tires on and so I stopped by pep boys to see if they could do it. Before going I see what the work hours are and it says they close at 7pm and at the time I was looking for a tire shop it was around early 6ish. So im like that should be plenty of time so let me see if they can do it. To my surprise I drive to the front of pep boys and see all the garage bay doors closed and the front door still propped open. I'm glad I can count on my local pep boys to be open or to have their hours fixed so people know their correct hours or if they just randomly like to close early. Brought my car in to get fixed. Left it there all day, got it back and the cover for the fuse box was off and the check engine light still on. Dude at the front said to call if it doesn't cycle off. I have work in the morning so I don't have much choice. Surprise surprise, light still on. I call and they tell me to come back in a couple days so they can check. Come back, they say tech had emergency can we reschedule... sure. Reschedule for 8am the next day. They call me at 4:30pm to say it needs more fixing! For guess what, the thing the original code said it needed!! And I get a "hopefully done by the end of the day". And for some reason their records show I was there in May? No? MY EXPERIENCE! I'll try to keep this quick and simple. I usually get my oil change here when I'm busy with errands and don't have time cause I work but I got an appointment @2pm 3 days ahead of time and gotten help by Harold (The Manager) that already had an attitude before I came in and didn't greet me properly once I walked in.... I had asked for an oil change. - He gave me the most expensive service without giving me any other option until I asked him and he said "Its the manager's special" I had to ask for other deals/services myself and gotten my regular service that I asked for. - I told him to make sure they lubricant the rubber gasket on the oil filter and hand tighten it because they didn't last time because I changed it myself and it took multiple tries with a hammer and screwdriver and he said "It's part of the job to add oil on it" with a smart remark. - I asked for military discount and he said "It's only 10% off!" and just stared uncomfortably at me with a blank look. - It took them about 5 to 15 minutes to get started on my car. -The service took an hour and 40 minutes to do an old fashioned oil change. Mind you it's not busy at all and I had an appointment. Plenty of time for them to be prepared and they an open hanger. - I was waiting and watching them work.... in the parking lot for the last 30 minutes and no one was on it for 10 minutes. -My car was finally finished and Harold is helping me as I pay for the service. He gives me the total and doesn't put the military discount. I had to ask him again and he *Scuffs* when I do and gives me a stare a bit longer. - I get home giving them the benefit of the doubt without checking their work until I get home and my oil filter looked stripped and messy. And I questioned if it was my old oil filter. - I went back to ask for a new oil filter because I was not happy with the service at all. Harold (The manage left early after I left) but Jio (The Assistant Manager) understood and took care of me. : As a mechanic myself as a 21yr guy, a simple oil change should not take in total, 3 and half hours, a rude manager from start to finish, the job not getting done right and no supervisor on the job sight with the mechanics. I will not be going to PepBoys location at all and majority sticking to my own maintenance myself in anything. It tested my patience and it caused frustration and disappointment. I have been using this Pep Boys location for about 3 years since I moved to San Diego. The people who work here are always quick and friendly. They try to make sure that I get the best deals with any specials that are going on at the time that I visit. I always schedule my appointments online, and they take my car back quickly when I get there, and I usually don't have to wait more than an hour, which is expected. I have had my oil changed by them multiple times (most recently last week) and I had my tire patched by them when I ran over a screw (November 2018). Their lobby is clean and they have a self serve Keurig area so that you can have fresh coffee while you wait. read more

I've been going to pep boys for many years they've always had wonderful service wait times sometimes is a little bit long. I had an experience this past weekend and it wasn't good it was frustrating and then I had gone back on the 25th of May for an appointment they didn't have me scheduled for an appointment they worked me in. I was very frustrated and angry when I went to pick my car up they totally surprised me, was shocked at what they did for me I was losing hope that there were still some companies out there that have really good customer service and value their customers, they showed me that they valued me and I will definitely use them again I just want to thank them for what they did for me. Bad temper customer service.. they get easily irritated to answer questions because they were busy.. regardless of how busy you are, you should show professionalism towards your customer if they were only asking legit questions or just asking an update about our car. I brought tires with 65,000 miles warranty. At 40,000 miles one of the tire was leaking air, I took it in to get it fix and they would not fix it, instead said that I had to buy a new tire although I still have 25,000 miles left on warranty for the tire. I am infuriated with this establishment and the people that work here. Not just with my experience but over hearing two other customers as well. So I got my tires sent here to be installed. Along with that, I needed an alignment. Also with new tires that requires them to have to balance the tires. Well I knew it was going to be about an hour wait maybe an hour and a 1/2 at most. But I ended up waiting almost 3 hours. They were not that busy to the point where I felt it was going to take that long but with the request I was having done most definitely didn't think it would take that long. Now I left and the next morning the TPMS sensor came on. Now I knew I might have to drive it for a short time and it probably go off but it didn't. Then it got worse. My car started shaking when I drove it over 50 on the freeway. Immediate cause for concern So now I'm like what happened? Which could be because they didn't balance the tires or possibly over inflatted or the sensor got messed up. I brought my car back immediately. Now as I'm waiting for them to take care of the issue they caused and wait another two hours, another customer came in stating that she just had an oil change done about a week ago and her gas light is on. The guys that work at the front advised her that it should go off. Then the other one told her that he'd look into it to see what the issue is and see if she wanted to leave her car till the next day to be checked. I knew the issue. Another woman came in shortly after to pick up her car and as she was leaving she came back in and said the same thing. She says I noticed the check engine light is on. Again the guy at the front with an accent tells her oh it should go off. He then proceeds to tell her if she drives it and it has any problems that she can bring it back. From the sound of her voice she sounded concerned. She goes okay I'll just drive it and see. I then advised her all you need is to have the check engine light reset. I said my ex husband was a mechanic and I said they should've did it for you. The guy at the front with the accent proceeds to say yes that is correct but we charge $100 dollars to turn it off. I was flabbergasted!! I simply told her if you know a mechanic or someone who works on cars they can reset it for you. Like are you serious?! I can't even believe I paid money to this establishment and all the time I spent waiting when I saw the mechanics in the back standing around at times not even working. Guys at the front tell you it won't be much longer and you wait a long time. Witnessed you lying to these customers! Please please don't come here. Go somewhere else. I don't even know how this place is in business. It's obsurd. And as I'm writting this review I witness the mechanic who is test driving my car to make sure it's not shaking anymore drove my car out of the parking lot with little regards and literally did a loop around the block. Pep Boys offers what's called a 120-point peace of mind vehicle inspection. It's a great service, especially for someone like myself who recently purchased a used vehicle and want to make sure everything is mechanically sound. BUT, their online appointment booking system is extremely unreliable and not accurate whatsoever. The first time I used their online system to book an appointment, I came in at my scheduled appointment time and was told there was not enough technicians available to take a look at the car so I was turned away. What was the point of scheduling an appointment then? I understand things happen so I let it go. A few months down the road I scheduled another appointment with a technician over the PHONE to be sure there was availability this time around. Once again I showed up to my scheduled appointment time only to be turned away yet again. This company does not prioritize your business or value your time whatsoever. Not happy. Made an app more than 24 hours before to then have my husband arrive & them not have me scheduled. All information was given upon making the appointment. I also asked incredibly detailed questions to be sure to expect the correct pricing. what I asked for should have been free. Turned out not to be which wouldn't be a huge deal if I was told upfront. keep in mind I asked questions over the phone knowing what I wanted inspected. My husband ended up waiting longer than I think he should have and we ended up paying for exactly what I requested even though I was told it would be free. read more
