I took my car into the pep boys on a Tuesday because it was vibrating really bad when accelerating. I left it with them. Later that night, the lady mechanic whom I left the car with called and said that my left side CV joint was busted and the transmission mount was broken. She said "that's why your car is vibrating so bad" she said it would cost $950 to fix. I asked her when they could get it done and she said "tomorrow". So I told her to go ahead with the repairs. The next day I hadn't heard anything from them and it was about 30 minutes before they close, so I called up to see what was going on. The lady who answered the phone (not the mechanic) told me they weren't able to get to it and their technician is off tomorrow so it will be Friday before they can get it in. I said the lady mechanic told me it would be done today and I need my car for work. The person said with a snotty attitude "well that didn't happen and our technician isn't working tomorrow so like I told you, Friday". They weren't even going to call and tell me. Friday I get the message that my car is fixed and that I can come get it. So I go get it and pay the $950 for the repairs. I drive off and my car was vibrating and shaking really bad when I accelerate just like it was before I brought it in. Nothing was fixed. There was no difference whatsoever even tho I just paid $950 for repairs. I took it back in and told them that my car is doing the same thing it was doing before I brought it in. Literally nothing has changed. So the lady mechanic said to leave it there and they would check it out in the morning. The next day I didn't hear anything from them. So I called up again and the lady mechanic I have been dealing with answered the phone. I asked what was going on with my car. She put me on hold and then another lady that works in the front pics up the phone and tells me they weren't able to get to it. So the next day I call the customer service help line for pep boys and explain what was going on. It was only then that the lady mechanic actually called me and acted professional. She told me that now my passenger side cv joint was broken and my wheel bearings were bad. It would cost $1095 to repair. I asked why that wasn't noticed when my car was in the shop for 3 days originally. She said that when they fixed the left side CV joint, it caused the other one to fail. I said whatever. Just please fix my car. I asked her when they would have it done. She said Friday. I got a message on Friday at around 1 saying my car was ready for pick up. I went and got it and they knocked 10% off the bill. They got me good this time. I WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN A PEP BOYS AGAIN. read more

I had a part replaced here (throttle body) it stopped functioning after a few days. They refused replacing again, even though the repair supposedly has a warranty; and told me to go to the dealer. I bought a new throttle body online, watched some videos on how to do the replacement and then replaced their faulty part myself on my driveway. No problem since then; but why did I even go here in the first place if I was going to repair their faulty repair myself. read more

I should have looked at the reviews before coming here. I booked an appt for 1:30p to get new tires put on, and arrived at 1p. They were still getting my tires but was told it shouldnt take long. They pulled my truck into the bay at 2 and said they had the tires. My truck sat there, untouched until 4:50 with the new tires on the floor (unmounted). I asked a few times how much longer and kept getting BS excuses. I was finally checked out at 5:30. Never got my alignment for fear of sitting there until the place closed at 7. I was told of they did the alignment it would be comp'd which I declined after sitting there for 4.5hrs. At checkout I was told that if I came back they'd give it to me at 50% off. Still not worth the wait. If you're expecting service in the expected timeframe, dont go here. read more

We took our truck over to the Durham, NC, highway 55 location, after Car Shield recommended these people to fix the truck. Pep Boys does not know how to tell the truth if it hit them in the face. The truck has been sitting over there for over a week and supposedly the truck was diagnosed. The Service Manager Kevin refuses to call the claim into Car Shield for some unknown reason. Car Shield has reached out to him twice and he always says he doesn't have time to talk with them. I asked to pick up the truck, but was told by Kevin I have to pay $149.00 for their diagnosis, which Car Shield tells me that they would pay for once they have the claim filed. Pep Boys is using BAIT and SWITCH methods to rob their customers. At one point the service manager Kevin told me he was to busy doing administration things. Obviously he doesn't get if you don't help your clients, you won't have administration things to do because no one will use your services. I have called the corporate customer service now three times only to be told that they escalated this complaint and the General Manager John Dimou would contact me, which he hasn't. My next complaint will be to the North Carolina Attorney General and hopefully close these folks down. DOI NOT USE THEM UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE LIED TOO!! read more

I've been coming to this location for over a year now. I've been a big fan of pep boys since i joined their program over 2 years ago in Suwanee, GA. To start, I don't know why there are so many negative reviews. People stating that the front desk staff were not friendly? Typically, on the weekend, Jon is usually working. From my past experiences and present, he is not one to show too much emotion. In addition, they are one of the few repair shops that is open on both Saturday and Sunday, and its typically quite busy. In these days, we all need to practice patience!!! They are all working as hard as they can to do the best job they can... I typically take my car here for the basics - oil change, tire rotation (i bought a lifetime membership for tire rotations over 3 years ago, and it has definitely paid for itself over the last few years). my spouse brought her vehicle to another shop, and it cost nearly DOUBLE the price of what Pep Boys would have charged. This shop is one of the more honest shops, especially for being a 'chain type'. They are not always out for the sale, they are out to help the customer. When at the shop this past weekend, a lady came in stating something about her tire, but didn't know what was wrong with it. she was thankful that the shop was even available to assist her (as others told her that she would have to wait until monday)...jon and team took the car in for evaluation. From my experiences over the years, they are a top notch shop. Full of honest people who run an honest business. I forgot my coupons for the oil changes, and the shop was nice enough to use the 'store code' to give me 15% off of the service. I have never had any issues where I felt they were trying to nickel and dime me for additional services, nor have i ever felt 'uncomfortable' where i questioned their recommendations. The Pep Boys in Morrisville on Chapel Hill are no good! I had my tires rotated 4/24/24 and was told I have an oil line leak.(Never seen any leaks stains in my parking space) so I agreed to get it fixed. 4/25/24. The Rep came back with a. water pump estimate and told me to disregard the oil leak and have the water pump disused for $1500+ when I refused she became persistent and kept asking am I getting it done after the 4th time saying I can not afford it at the moment AND I had a diagnostic two days prior and none of these issues came up. I had an appointment at 4:30. After waiting for over an hour they still have not started on my tire replacement. The person working behind the counter is rude. Doesn't even acknowledge customers when they come in. I understand you are on the phone but a polite policy is to simply acknowledge the customer and let them know you will be with them in a minute, not ignore them. I had booked an oil change for 9 a.m was told it was going to be done at 10:30. Well 10:30 rolls around and my car was still sitting in the parking lot. At this time I've been waiting over 1.5 hours. When I asked the manager how long he told me the lube tech doesn't show up until 10 and it be at least another hour. I wouldn't of even been upset and had to write this review if the manager was upfront and honest about the time frame. They are obviously making enough money and don't care about keeping customers because all I got at the end was "what cars yours" and my key back. read more

I have usually had good luck with this location when it comes to inspections. I'm usually in and out in a half hour, max. My husband and I got new vehicles this year and scheduled our first inspections for 2pm. Over 2 hours later, we're still sitting outside and nobody has even gone to grab our cars. My husband asked how long it'd be because we'd take one of the cars while we wait for mine to go in, but we were told we were next over an hour ago. Still have not even pulled one of our cars in. We had other appointments today that we're having to miss because of this. I don't recommend taking your car here, regardless of age, because even if all your getting is an inspection, you better prepare to be here 3+ hours. read more

I called on my lunch break and talked to someone asking if I needed an appointment for an oil change? He said no ma'am absolutely not. Worst.Experience.Ever. I had a 4pm appointment to patch a hole in my tire. I had a flat tire. I also happen to be 8 months pregnant. (This is all relevant) I get there at 3:55. Desk dude John (apparently also manager by God knows how) ignores standing big pregnant me for a good 15 minutes. Finally he finishes his few phone calls (talking crap about each customer after he hangs up) and tells me they are very behind and it'll be 45 minutes before my car will be looked at. I said that's ok, it's flat, I need this, so whatever. While I'm waiting, a man comes with no appointment, gets his service, and leaves. By 6:22 I am furious as I see them finally take my car back. I had been the only one there for about an hour. I'm pregnant, thirsty, hungry, tired. About 10 minutes later they ask me where my key lock is, I tell them with my spare, they say it's not there. 10 more minutes John comes and tells me there is nothing they can do, they can't get the tire off without the lock key and they COULD plug the hole but he "couldn't find the plugs". I have now been there over 3 hours. They decide to close shop, close all the doors, put all the cones out, etc (about 15 more mins) before finally giving me my keys so I could leave and drive home on a flat tire. The best part? When I get home I look in my spare tire and see a perfectly visible brand new pack of wheel lock keys. Please don't waste hours of your life like I did. Screw this place. Took my car in for my ABS system light, they told me it was because my oil was completely dry. I stupidly believed them (who wouldn't believe a "professional?") but the very next day the warning light kicked on again. Charged me $100 for the diagnostic and $70 for the oil change (roughly) but didn't diagnose correctly at all. Never bringing my car in again. Expect the same result if your car needs anything more high tech than an oil change. read more

Everyone I've had the chance to interact with is kind, attentive, and extremely helpful. Today could have been an emotional rollercoaster: I needed some serious repairs and was going to have to pay a LOT of money. I was anxious, overwhelmed and clueless about what to do. This staff went out of their way to ensure I was taken care of and well-informed. They answered all (and there were many) of my questions and got my truck back up and running in less than a day. They quoted me one price when I went in to pay they wanted double the amount quoted to me. I only paid the amount quoted. Disappointing. And the up-sell was ridiculous as I keep all the records of my car and went through them when I got home. All repairs had been done recently .I researched the proposed recommendations by PepBoys regarding what needed to be replaced on my car and watched a you tube video. I called a mechanic that will come to your home. When the mechanic came I asked him if I could see the serpentine belt he took off. A few minutes later he told me to come out and look. He showed the belt. It was still on the car He said "look it's not dried, out it's not cracked, in fact it looks new." This after Pep Boys scared me to death to even drive my car. Then he checked everything out and said the entire engine and parts look great! Charged me for an inspection only! I plan on calling Pep Boys today. Pep Boys Update - this just keeps getting better. I just called to speak with the manager. John the man who tried to up sell me said it was Mike's day off. When I told John who I was he remembered me. I told him that he had made me very uncomfortable driving my car for fear of a break down. He said he only passes on the information the tech recommends. I told him it would behoove him to review recommendations from his tech as ultimately as service manager it would be his responsibility. He said he trusts his tech. Then hung up on me. Of course I called back and he said yes he did hang up on me. Crazy! Anyway I told him I'd be happy to come by with my car and the 3 of us could look at the belt together. He said don't bother. Three days at the shop and all i got was a $125 bill to run the OBD II on my Jeep after I brought it in telling them what the code was and what I needed fixed! If I had a lift and garage I'd have done it myself. Secondly they tried to get me to replace my track bar because the bushing was bad! Apparently they do not have a vice or a press to properly seat a bushing. I have since ordered a bushing and replaced on my own using a C clamp. A shame that such a recognizable name in auto repair has fallen so far. I've been here twice. The first time, to get an oil change, tire rotation, and check out a check engine light that flashed on and off. After a few hours of testing the light, they called me, told me they wouldn't charge me for the diagnostics because there was nothing officially determined, and to come back in 75-100 miles. I was grateful they didn't charge me for the tests. The second time I came in after driving for some miles, and since the light wasn't back on I was green lighted and I asked for an inspection. Turns out, I don't need one for another year since inspections and registrations are renewed at the same time in NC. they didn't charge me a cent! And, when I casually mentioned that I hadn't changed my plates because of a stripped screw, the man came back, handed me my keys, and told me it took a couple minutes longer because he had a guy change the plate for me. I asked if I owed him any money and he said "as long as you have a great day we're all set!" Very grateful for the comprehensive work, the lack of superfluous charges, and nice atmosphere. I wouldn't really return here. When I arrived at opening time on a Sunday morning, the service advisors acted like they didn't want to take me. They eventually did and while the oil change went pretty fast, these same advisors seemed to be dishonest about my windshield wipers (I just bought new RainX wipers weeks ago). They were also dishonest about giving me a tire rotation, which I paid for and they didn't do. I left here immediately to get an inspection (they don't have an inspector every day, which I'm actually thankful for). I passed my inspection, though, I was told I wouldn't and the inspector said none of those things they'd mentioned were issues. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I scheduled an appointment online for 1pm. When I arrived, the older gentleman told me it would be an hour and a half before he could get to my car. I asked if I should come back. He told me to come back at 2:45pm so I walked around a nearby shopping center until then. I was also told it would be about a 45 min - 1 hour wait. BUT At 3:18, I asked another guy when they would bring my car back, he said "I don't know" and walked away. The staff at this location is rude, not friendly, and does not have any customer service skills. At 3:30pm I asked for my keys back as my car was still not being serviced. You always hear about the auto repair guy that looking to rip you you off. If you go to this place you will find him. I had a leak from my oil pan and thought I would try someplace with a familiar name. I dropped it off and they called me 4 hours later. They said my oil pan was leaking and it would cost over $900.00 to fix it. The ignorant shit stain at the counter would not tell me why it was 900 just that it was. I asked them to do an oil change and was charged $104.00. A small leak is now a huge leak (probable to teach me a lesson). Save your money, save your time, go someplace else. read more

Judging from the other reviews seen here, it seems that upselling is this auto shop's MO. I came in for a $50 oil change and left with a $162 bill. I came in for an oil change which was supposed to be around $50 and that's all I wanted. After dropping off my car I then get a phone call saying that my oil filter and cabin air filter were "filthy" and that they need to be changed. I was told it would only be $50 more to replace. I come back and the bill came out to be $162. I was confused by this and asked to see the bill first. The guy at the front desk told me that he wouldn't give me the bill or my keys back unless I paid first. I paid and instead of handing me the receipt he folded it in half and stapled it together so I wouldn't be able to see it. When I opened it, they had charged me for windshield wipers that I did not ask for and charged $15 labor to replace the cabin air filter (a job that takes about 2 minutes). I tried calling back numerous times that day and never got a response. I would urge everyone coming to this auto-shop to be careful of their dishonest practices and lack of professionalism. read more

Overall Not a good experience. Very inefficient and slow check in process, and not respectful. It was somewhat rough before this place was sold to Pepboys (used to be Meineke), but at least efficient. One argument I had the store manager (his badge indicated that he was the manager) this morning was that he insisted that my car requires synthetic engine oil, and he would refuse to put in anything else. I explained to him I bought the car new, and was doing conventional oil from day one, and the very last oil change was done at this shop (Pepboys Morrisville) using conventional oil, but he did not care. Exact word, I believe was "go back to the place who serviced my car before". I do not know what Pepboy's information system has, but Pepboys cannot override manufacturer's manual (I don't think Pepboys manufactured my car), which says the car can take either conventional or synthetic engine oil. This maybe driven by the corporate pressure to increase revenue, but that is not my problem. Anyways, I took the Pepboy's store manager's advice, walked out of the Pepboys Morrisville, and took the car back to the dealership. Actually, the synthetic oil change was around $20.00 cheaper at the dealer compared to Pepboys. I have been going to this shop (Meineke / Pepboys) for few years, but I don't think I will be returning to this place. read more

Wasn't checked in at the desk until after 8:30. 30 minutes later the service manager, Mike, brought me into the garage, under the lift, (no PPE on anyone, mind you) and told me that my struts need to be replaced. I have a nail in my tire and of course they say it can't be plugged I need a new tire but since I got the tires on buy 3 get one free deal and whole bunch of BS ab the price of tired and percentage that NO ONE explained.
