First let me start with this...I have had several vehicles over the past 15 years--most of which have been "used" and it is reasonable to expect that wear and tear happens. 10 year old cars are going to have issues. With this in mind, I have tried to be trusting and loyal to a particular, major auto repair shop in the area. I come from a small town--you know who to trust and who will do right by you. Youngstown isn't a "small town," at least not where I come from. It is difficult to know who to trust here. When you own an old vehicle, are on a budget and still realize that there is a need to leave room for car repairs--it means a lot to be able to trust people with your car. When you go to a large, commercial shop hoping that loyalty might mean something and excuse you from being taken advantage of, especially as a female--you hope that you can rely on these men to be straight with you. Not jerk you around because they can and because you have a balance on the charge card you felt blessed to have to cover extraordinary charges that come along with owning an old vehicle. FYI, ladies: Don't trust everywhere you go. These guys at Pep Boys have been kind, understanding, accommodating and empathetic. They haven't neglected to help me and shoot me straight. For that, I am grateful to these guys. I'm done with Midas seriously don't even care about any "warranties" on work I have had there. They have done me wrong too many times and I'm not spending another minute in that disgusting waiting room. Thanks to Adam, Eric and any others at Pep Boys for helping me when I've needed it most. In all of Ohio, Pep Boys was the only place that had my specialty tires. We drove over an hour on a spare tire. (we had an out of state road trip planned for that day and they got us in!) They were so polite, honest and helpful. We got stuck on the road and they told us not to worry. What an amazing team. After being told it would cost almost 1.5k everywhere else, they were the best price & had a free installation running. 10/10 would recommend. Places like these, ruin the reputations of auto mechanics everywhere... We initially called and made an appointment, we were going out of town and needed things tuned up. * Do not bother making an appointment, they don't pride themselves on time. We sat inside pep boys for an hour and a half before they took the car back... * The restrooms inside, smell like fresh death with a hint of cherry car scent. Don't count on a sanitary square inch of it. * The desk secretaries, wander around, watch t.v. and scratch their balls. Very unprofessionally mannered. 3 hours, $400 later, we were officially RAPED by pep boys. The $85 alignment was never touched. They unbalanced the weight of the tires and rotated them.(aren't tires, their specialty!?) Oh, our break pads were changed and surprisingly, worked...yay. *We will never go back, luckily I didn't lose a tire on my trip, or I would have sued. read more

My wife took her car here after she hit a pipe on the freeway. The manager tried to talk her out of calling her insurance company, telling her they wouldn't cover the cost of the damage. My wife called insurance company and filed a claim anyways. Insurance company went to pep boys to look at the damage. The insurance company agreed to cover the cost of all repairs and gave all the paper work to the manager showing how much repairs should cost and how much they would cover. Pep boys repaired the car and then without telling us charged us $400 more than what insurance company agreed to cover and without telling us before repairs were made to the car. The manager then said that the insurance company didn't give them the paper work until 2 weeks after repairs were made, which is a lie, and we have proof the paperwork was given to them before repairs were made. manager was very disrespectful to my wife and we will never take our car here again. read more

Had an electrical problem the Saturday evening after thanksgiving and called in just before closing time. Mike said to bring the car in the next morning and they could fit us in before our trip back home. Mike was there the next morning and had the tests run twice for us just to make sure we'd be okay to make the long drive home. Car made it back safe and sound and we had the car looked at by our hometown mechanic - the problem turned out to be a bad ignition switch. We were impressed with everyone's professionalism and courtesy at the Boardman location, and especially their efforts to get the car checked out promptly for us when we were in a bind. Wait time was a bit long due to a full schedule that day, but honestly -- what other shops are even open on Sundays? read more

UNBELIEVABLE !!!! I was at Pep Boys today. I called this morning for an appointment. I was told to " just bring it in now" I dropped my car off around 10:30 this morning for an alignment, oil change and tire rotation. James, the service manager asked if I could leave it because it wouldn't be ready for a couple of hours. I left it. I got a ride and came back 4 hours later. When I told another guy I was there to pick up my car he stated he could not find the paperwork and looked everywhere. He consulted with James, the service manager. The people in the waiting area told me it doesn't look good out in the garage because the employees look very puzzled. James came back to me and said he didn't have a chance to start working on my car yet BECAUSE of the appointments ahead of me. First of all, I called for an appointment and he said I didn't need one. When I dropped my car off there were 3-4 cars total. Plus, if there were appointments he misjudged an estimation by more than 4 hours??? He LIED!!! He lost or misplaces the paperwork. I understand mistakes. I don't understand why he had to lie to my face and shrug his shoulders. He said if I wanted to wait another hour or so they would get to it. After that there was no way I was going to trust leaving my car there. If he lied about that what else would he lie about? I asked for the corporate number because I was not happy and this was not fair. He then stated " go ahead, they will just email me your complaint" and shrugged his shoulders and walked away. I wasted my entire day! I rather take a work day off during the week and pay more to take it to the dealership than deal with the clowns at Pep Boys. There are very unprofessional. I was told by friends if you can't take it to the dealership because it conflicts with your work schedule during the week then take it to Goodyear or Sears because they are very professional and kind. read more

While driving to Michigan from queens in a rented car, we stopped here for an oil change (a little irritated that a rental car had been given to us in need of such a service). When the men behind the counter heard that it was rented, they came out and checked our oil levels and suggested that whoever last changed the oil had simply failed to reset the reader. They steered us AWAY from a sure sale telling us it was syre to be fine and it was the rental company's problem not ours. Unbelievable. They put US above money. Way too rare these days. read more

My friend dropped her car off today for an alignment and oil change and was told it would be ready in a couple of hours. Four hours later she returned and work had not even begun. The paper work was apparently misplaced. The service manager's attitude was, 'that's how it goes." No apology, no offer to expedite, ...nothing. Several people were inconvenienced. My fathers cousin is 86 years old and lives on a very tiny pension. He took his car to Pep Boys yesterday for an oil change and air in the tires. He drove the car there. After an hour, they came out and told him there were "leaks" in the brake fluid and showed him puddles of brake fluid and that he could not drive the car. He had to get a ride home, and has to pay a tow company to get the car home this morning. We looked in his garage and there were no spots on the floor of any leaks. They told him it would be $500 to fix the brake fluid leaks. This elderly man does not have $5 extra much less $500. How did the leaks appear while it was back there and there was no sign of leaks or problem with the brakes. Now he does not have $500 to fix it, he can not get his car until he pays the bill for the oil change etc that they did "before" they "discovered" the brake fluid all leaked out on their floor. read more

So for starters I called and talked to "John" about patching a hole in my tire he said for me to bring my car up there well it's about 3 miles to pep boys from my current location and my tire was completely flat sitting down on the rim, so I put air in the tire drove over there so they could patch the tire. I get there and im told they are busy and it's gonna be an hour an a half wait... it was already 6pm so I was told to just go home and call back in an hour and I did I was told then they were booked and they close in an hour so I was told to bring it in the morning.. I told them several times I needed it for work I work 7 days a week can't afford not to have a car... I asked to talk to a manager and was told he's not in could I call back in the morning.... wtf im trying to fix this problem now so why did they waste my time if they knew they were busy I could have taken it somewhere else and fix this problem. Now Im missing work the tire is still flat and pep service is the worst "two thumbs all the way down man" p.s if I.could take away all the stars I would. read more

I took my car and my mom's car to get work on. I got an oil change. And my mom's car got two new tie rods. A front end alignment. And a oil change. They got both of our cars in and out very fast. My mom and I stopped by at Pep Boys a few weeks ago with an emergency car situation. We had been to other dealers in the area who were unable to really help us so we ended up at Pep Boys. The stores service manager, Anthony, was absolutely wonderful. He spent over an hour trying to help us fix our situation. He was kind, patient and extremely generous with his time. There were also 2 other employees that helped us as well. We don't live in Boardman, so their help was amazing as we were out of town. After all that help, they didn't even charge us. Talk about being kind! Thank you Pep Boys for the wonderful service.... it was a reminder that we should always pay our kindness forward! read more

Will never spend another penny in this place. They are just out to get people who entrust them with their vehicles. My husband and I took our car to get new tires the other day and 6 hours and $700 later we left with no brakes. The store associate was no help whatsoever, she never even made us aware of the fact we didn't have brakes. Funny story, she was the one that pulled the car around for us because it was still in the garage, up on a rack, with the hood open. Luckily the car was facing the opposite direction of 224 because had my husband not had to turn around to leave, he would've headed straight towards 224 at 6pm during holiday shopping traffic with no clue he had no brakes. When we went back inside to say we had no brakes in the car she claimed she told us about no brakes(no reason to lie here, she 100% did not). Then I asked how are we supposed to get home to which she responded with a shrug as if saying not my problem. My husband managed to drive our car home and I proceeded to call customer service. They put in a claim for us(1-800# customer service people were extremely helpful in this situation). The District Manager contacted my husband and said I've seen the video in which you can see that the mechanic drove the car in and immediately had to put a trash can under the brake line because it was leaking. When my husband asked about the timestamp(because we know after they put the tires on and fixed the sway bar links they test drove it) the DM said he was getting a play by play from the store and that he hadnxt actually seen the video himself. My husband drove the car there the other day and he would've noticed if the brakes were starting to slip. And if all this did happen when the car was initially taken in the garage, why did they not tell us about the brake problem when they called to tell us the sway bar links needed replaced or else they couldn't do the alignment? A brake problem seems to be a pretty serious issue to me since you can't drive safely without them. All the DM wants us to do at this point is allow them to work on our car further(with us paying additional money of course). We have no reason to lie about any of this and we are being treated like garbage. We have always had such great experiences and have spent quite a bit of money in their store/shop. I have even praised them for their great customer service to others and recommended that people get work done there. Needless to say after this experience I would not trust them to put gas in my car let alone work on it. Please do not ever use any Pep Boys location for any service work if you value your vehicle or your life for that matter. read more

If you want your car to come out with more problems than when you dropped it off, this would be the place to go. I went in for an alignment, which after 5 days still hadn't been completed. I went to pick my car up while I waited for the extra "part" to come in later in the week they said was needed to finish my alignment. They had unplugged my remote start, rifled through my glove box and replaced my battery for an old one. Worst of all, if my dad and brother hadn't just replaced it, I would have never noticed. I can only imagine how many other people they are taking advantage of. Stay away from this place! read more

I recently got a nail in one of my off-road tires. I visited the Pep Boys and they advised me that the tire was not repairable. I returned the next day with another set of tires to be installed on my jeep and these guys were amazing! Very helpful, very knowledgeable, and completely professional. This place is an absolute joke. I would not recommend this place for automotive repairs unless I truly did not like the person I was recommending it to. I took my dodge grand caravan cause the check engine light was on and i wanted it served and tuned up before I drove it down to Oklahoma in July with my Mom and four kids to visit family. The first day I brought my van in I was told it should just be an hour or two. Three hours later I decided to call for a ride home cause they were still trying to pinpoint the problem. I called when I got home to check and was told oh he's working on it. An hour later I called back and they told me that the mechanic working on my van left an hour ago. Seriously!? The next day I got a call and they told me that the problem was located and that the part that needed replaced would be $389 that will have to be ordered from a dealer. I called every dodge dealer in the area and the part was highest at $280. I ended up finding it online for $140 and had it next day delivered for an extra $80 (total price still cheaper than dealer price). Took the part in and got my van back the next day and was told all check engine codes were fixed and reset and that the mechanic even drove it around to make sure it was all fixed. I drove the van home and about an hour later decided to drive it to the store and realized now i have no dash lights. I called pep boys as soon as I found out and was passed to the mechanic that worked on it and was told to bring it back in on Sunday since it was Friday and an hour from closing because that's the next day he works. As we were talking my check engine light came back on! I told him and again he said I will check it on Sunday. I show up on Sunday and he called off and no one bothered to call to tell me even though in the computer it had me down as an appointment with him. The guy at the desk said oh I guess I should of called you. Rescheduled the appointment for Tuesday at 1130. Tuesday at 1135 drop keys off and decide to wait since I was told it shouldn't be that long. I sit in the waiting area and watch six people come in hand their keys over and wait about 30 minutes each then get their keys pay and leave while my keys are still hanging in the same place. Since I have my 4 kids with me I decide I can't wait any longer than the two and a half hours I have already waited. The guy at the desk says well we can set you another appointment. Ugh! I set an appointment for the following Monday so my kids would be with their mom. I have been sitting here since 11 am and it is now 2 pm and no news except that he's working on it but since he's working on five other cars at the same time it might be a while. Seriously!? Now its supposedly a $600 part that just happened to go bad since I got the van fixed. I asked for the engine codes and was told oh we don't write them down. Then was told that if I wanted they could put everything back together and run the codes again to write them down for me. Now how did they know what to take apart if they didn't run and write down the codes? Called customer relations (1800pepboys) and they started a complaint. Went back in and the manager basically called me a liar and said I told him not to fix anything. What!? I was handed my keys and told that I needed to leave because they are not working on my van anymore today because a master mechanic has to look at it before anything can be done. Calling customer relations again. Will try to update when I get further news. read more

Dropped my car off here on a Saturday at 10am to have two tests done to my car. I call that night to see what the status is since I have not heard one thing about my car and I am told that the technician left during the afternoon so my car has just been sitting in the shop all day. I ask if it will be looked at the following day and am told that it would. I go into the store the following afternoon (going on about 16 hours now that they have had my car and have not made one effort on calling me and telling me the status) that the status is still the same and that my car basically sat in the shop all day with no one looking at it. All I asked for were two simple tests to be done to my car so I could figure out what my current problem was. Needless to say I wasn't to thrilled that I wasted a weekend with my car sitting in these clowns shop when it could have been somewhere else being attended too. This place is an absolute joke on top of that every person in the store stands around and stares off into space obviously hating their job and that doesn't make for a nice visit to the store. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone and I certainly will never be back and that is unfortunate for this clown shop because I work with lots of small businesses in the area that are always looking for a place that they can have work done on their work vehicles. Not a chance they will get my recommendation. Place is a joke. read more
