I cannot thank Ron and the crew at the Kirk Road Pep Boys enough. My wife was in a car accident, and in the middle of all that stress, we needed to get the car to a shop immediately. Even though it was after hours, Ron didn't hesitate. He and his team stepped up and made sure the car was taken in and secured when most other places would have just told us to wait until morning. Their professionalism was great, but it was their kindness and willingness to help us in a tough spot that really blew me away. It's hard to find service like this anymore. TLDR: Ron is inexcusably rude, and apparently well-known amongst other Pep Boys locations to be notoriously terrible towards customers. -- UPDATE 1: You'll see Pep Boys commented on this review asking me to reach out with my contact information, which I did on 7/26/25. In addition, I had already reached out to their Customer Relations immediately after posting this review on 7/25/25, which an employee asked for my contact information (and I provided it 5 minutes later). As of 7/28/25, I have not yet heard back from either Pep Boys Customer Relations associates. UPDATE 2: I've been in email contact with a Pep Boys support member (Leah), as instructed by Pep Boys' response. The email I received today (8/19/25), despite never talking to anyone else about this issue, is "the matter was previously reviewed and addressed directly with [me] in person." Leah told me, "[my] comments and concerns were noted and someone should be reaching out to [me] within 5 - 7 business days," which never happened. I have yet to have anyone reach out to me other than Leah's generic, scripted corporate responses. This business has lost its mind. -- I scheduled my Lyft inspection through Pep Boys' website directly for 5:00p on 7/25/25. As I arrived, their garage entrances each have different labels ("Brakes", "Oil Change", etc.). I asked a mechanic inside which lane I should use, and they oddly enough instructed me to park in the handicap spot towards the front door and speak with the attendant. As I walked in, all the employees (no joke) gave me the stinkiest side eye I've ever received as they darted glances at where I parked. I quickly explained I was instructed to park where I had. I spoke with Ron about my appointment, which admittedly, was 5:08p at this point. Ron told me, "I stop doing those at 3:00 'cus they take a long time." I explained how their website allowed me to schedule the time I selected, and he simply glared at me while reaching for a form behind him. Ron was visibly irritated at me coming in, and frankly, I don't know why. He used a form that did not look like the official one provided by Lyft, and asked me for my mileage. I said, "about 22,000, I can get you an exact mileage in a second" as I pulled out my phone. Ron then proceeded to write 26,7... (weird, since I didn't give a specific mileage, but Ron was fully ready to lie on my form)... when I stopped him. "No, about 22,000" I corrected. Ron stared at me wide-eyed (I'm not exaggerating here) and threw the form in the trash without losing eye contact. As Ron was grabbing another form, I proceeded to begin opening my car's app. He started writing 22,... as I stared at my phone, as I said "ok, it's 21,744 miles". Ron again gave me a death stare, as I just said, "that's fine, yeah, about 22,000." This wasn't sufficient for Ron, as he threw this form away as well. At this point, I walked out. Ron clearly couldn't be bothered to do his job, and I certainly didn't want him anywhere near my car. To add insult to injury, they looked up my appointment and cancelled it as I sat in my car, as I received a "Sorry you couldn't make your service appointment with us" message. I ended up visiting the next closest Pep Boys location, where I began to explain what had happened at the Kirk Road location. They immediately stopped me and asked, "larger-set guy?" I said "yeah, you know who I'm talking about?" The employee said, "Yeah, that's Ron. He gives all the other Pep Boys locations a bad name." According to this employee, Ron is allegedly the store manager for the Kirk Road location, so I'm sure nothing will happen based on my experience. The employee also mentioned they consistently have customers migrating from the Kirk Road location due to having similar experiences to mine. That's the thing, my experience was so bad at the Kirk Road location, I took the time to write this entire review. That should say something. Do NOT let Ron at the Kirk Road Pep Boys anywhere near your car. If he doesn't want to do his job, he certainly doesn't want to take care of your vehicle. read more

One of my tires had a slow leak for months. I finally had time to get it checked and made an appt at the Kirk Road location. After an oil change, I was told that no leak could be found in that tire. Yet, every three weeks for months prior, the alert on my dashboard said the tire dipped to 26psi. The man in charge then explained that my tire treads were at a 4 (new tires being an 8) and all my tires would need replacing soon. But this car is only a few years old. He explained how my type of vehicle is "hard on tires." In three weeks, that same tire dipped to 26psi again. I stopped at different Pep Boys for a second opinion. Guess what? They found a piece of metal in that tire! And at this location, each tire tread measured an 8. Hmm, what's a girl to think? Do four new tires cost more than one single repair? Yes. A lot more. Wake up, Boys. Preying on women at the car repair shop doesn't work anymore. You get reviews like this one, you lose one customer for life, and my guess -- any female reader avoids this Pep Boys forever. read more

Absolutely go here. I went in today because my car was showing my brake light and turn signal out but I can't afford the $187 bmw charged me last time on my old car. I grabbed my manual and walked in. Eddie helped me as well as all of the little problems that popped up with other customers. He was able to help me with my lights and did it totally with a smile. The experience with these guys has been disappointing to say the least. Non responsive management, no interest in their customers. they have caused more damage to our car then when we took it in to them, and they refused to take responsibility. We will not use them again for sure. We wish we could have their CEO's email, he owes to know how they treat people from the store manager to the Regional Area director. I just had a great experience with this location from start to finish! I had a very, very flat tire that needed to be replaced. They were one of the only places around that had it in stock and I was able to make an appointment for the very next day. Unfortunately, I was running late and when I called to let them know, they were super nice and understanding. Total time from drop off to pick up was less than an hour. Based on my recent experience getting a battery changed, I would not use them. When I arrived at pep boys, there was no car in the shop. They told me that my car would be finished it 2 hours; it was a little longer. I paid 180 for their better battery. Later that year, I had jiffy lube come to my house and replace a dead battery on another car. It took 10 minutes and cost 150. I think pep boys is best used for things you can't get done at jiffy lube read more

These people are so honest. I have gone to them with car issues twice. They provide great service, prompt and fair. Both experiences were great. The second time I went there it was something very minor, and they adjusted it for me with no charge-- and they would not even except a tip for that. They are a breath of fresh air. read more

To echo others, if you need your break fixed, or new tires, Pep Boys is fine (or Walmart), but any other sort of repair, don't take it to this location. First, the customer ahead of us was not wearing a mask as mandated by the State of Illinois during the coronavrius pandemic, and they simply did not care and were not enforcing it. Second, my car did not pass the emissions test, so I took it in, and they said they don't fix Volkswagen's there and have to send them out. I told them I had it serviced their 4 years ago and was told "a lot changes in 4 years" We then inquired about the 99.00 diagnostic fee if they weren't even sure they could fix it. The man at the front desk got an attitude and said "maybe you work for free, but our mechanics don't" We took it across the street to Firestone, got it fixed within one day, and they were very polite and enforced CDC Mask guidelines. The grapevine told me that Pep Boys hasn't had a mechanic at the Kirk Road location in a long time and they keep broke down cars in the parking lot just to make it look like they are busy. read more

I came in to get my vehicle inspected for Lyft and I was greeted instantly upon walking in and was taken care of. Both technicians were very pleasant and gave me good customer service I will definitely be back and will recommend others to patronize the business and just so you know I live right across the street from another location ( Naperville) Pep Boys and gave me a hard time , so I chose to travel 20 minutes out of this particular location and my process was easy and I appreciate the two men that worked today and handle me thank you. read more

If you are getting an oil change or something less complicated this place is ok. If you need repairs - PLEASE don't waste your time here. My family has had several vehicles serviced here - personal and business vehicles - and we have had the same issue - not receiving updates on the status of the vehicles, receiving the run around on when the vehicle would be repaired, and constantly having the SAME issue come up with the vehicle. When we get a vehicle repaired we have been without our vehicke for over 4 days. Twice we have been informed on two different vehicles there was a repeat concern with the vehicle. It's sad when we must remind staff this was the same concern with the vehicle on a previous visit. This doesn't make me feel confident in their work when the same issues come up with our vehicles. I'm a believer in giving a business a chance to make things right before giving a 1 star review. We're done with this location. read more

Had the tires on my car rotated yesterday afternoon. This morning, while driving to work, tire came flying off while I was doing about 40 mph. Then the area manager tells me "if it happened" 3 different times. And says they did everything just fine. Right! That's why my tire flew off, crossed into oncoming traffic, could have seriously hurt or killed me or someone else if it struck another car. That's why the car was sitting on its bumper in the middle of the road, because they did everything ok. Don't deserve one star, but had to give to post. So I took my car to Costco's auto section for a second opinion and later to Firestone for a third opinion. Both places said I was totally in the clear and that they all use the same measurement system for wear on tires. Two stars because they were nice... But they were lying to me to make a sale. I've been getting my car serviced at this location for a few years now. They have always provided consistently great service. Yesterday I went in for a flat tire and a dead headlight. Liam took care of me. He showed me all of my options, very clear and concise, for tires and headlights, along with prices and recommendations. I had sheduled an appointment online for this location for 5:30 pm on Thursday for an oil change and service. I called to confirm and the man who answered the phone said they are now closing this location at 5:00 pm. I asked if I got there before 5:00 if they could do still service our car. He said yes that was not a problem. I asked my boss to get out of work an hour early and got there by 4:30 pm. They were already closed. We were driving daughter across country for college drop off and had to desperatly find someone to service our car. Wow. I brought my car to Pepboys on Kirk because my car was overheating. I was told the water pump was going out. When I dropped off the car, I told them to do the minimum to repair the car because I was trading it in soon and couldn't really afford to pay much!!!! They quoted me a price of $1,950. It seemed high, but not really knowing anything about the mechanics of cars and my car broken down, I told them to go ahead and repair it. Well, this morning, I learned that in addition to changing out the water pump, they changed out the belt (because it was wet????) and the thermostat and that is why the cost is so high. Never did they tell me that until I questioned them as to why the bill so high. Very frustrating. My fault, I should have asked, but seriously, they shouldn't have done unnecessary repairs. read more

I had work done on my front brakes last year at another location. The parts were all under warranty, so when I noticed my car was lurching whenever I hit the brakes, I decided to have them looked at. I called to make an appointment, which was painless and fast, and I got an appointment exactly when I needed it. Rich called me after about an hour and explained that one of my brake hoses had collapsed in on itself, so the driver side was wearing a lot faster and hotter than the passenger side. He offered to repair the warranty parts for free, and recommended the hose be replaced for what amounted to about $150. I approved the warranty work, but chose to wait on the hose since be said it wasn't an immediate danger, but would need to be addressed soon. He didn't pressure me. I did a little fast research and determined that it was actually probably a good idea to just go ahead and fix the hose, so when I called back, Rich said they could have the part delivered and the labor complete in a couple hours. They did a great job, and the car was finished when promised. I loved that I wasn't pressured into any decisions and that Rich was kind and patient when explaining something I didn't quite understand. My truck had been sitting for a few months while I was traveling, I needed new tires and battery. I contacted Pep Boys, ordered tires and made an appointment....I was told to call their towing service the day before. I did just as instructed and was told on the phone that no appointment could be honored, and they had no idea why I was told that....this by their own towing service. They told me to call again two hours before the appointment and they would see what's available. I was in need of an emergency repair last week. On my way home Thursday night my tire went flat. I first called Firestone they told me "maybe tomorrow" and that they closed in 10 minutes. Frustrated I called the Pep Boys and they said "come on in". When I arrived about five minutes to close the man working, Jim showed me my tire had blown up. He recommended a new set of tires and told me they would stay late to take care of me. I am very grateful for the extra time they took and I WILL recommend them to everyone. I had a great experience at Pep Boys. Started off with a professional greeting. All too often you find mechanics that grunt at you when you walk in the door. I had an emergency flat tire when towing a trailer, I was running late and I was wondering how exactly do I get a tire repair done on my car while towing a trailer that would be extremely difficult to unload. Cara (manager) and Freddy (assistant manager) were fantastic and super helpful. We ended up on a first-name basis because I had to bring my 2000 Rav4 in so many times. My check engine light was on, so I had them do a diagnosis, and it came back that the oxygen sensor needed replacing. They don't charge for the diagnosis if you also get the problem fixed there, so that was nice. After replacing the sensor, the light was still on, so I brought the car in again and they said it was still the oxygen sensor, which they thought was weird, so they replaced it again without charging me for the new part or for labor. Then the same thing happened a third time, and they figured out that my emissions had been rebuilt in California, so the parts are all slightly different. They ordered a California "oxygen sensor", only charged me for the difference of the cost of the California part and what I'd already paid for the first part, and again did not charge me labor. And it worked! But the light came back on again. Turns out there was just something else wrong (EGR valve), so they fixed that for me as well, charging me at-cost (not marked up) for the parts, and 10% off for the labor since I'd brought it in so many times in quick succession. They fixed/replaced the EGR valve, and the light's now off and the car is doing great. They were super helpful, very nice, and very apologetic that I had to come back in over and over. It's an experience that could have been absolutely horrible, but ended up being not all that bad because of their patience and determination to get the car fixed. I hope in the end that the Pep Boys mechanics were able to learn something about California emissions from that experience! read more

I've been a Pep Boys customer for a long time and this was my first visit to this location. Came in for an oil change and made a same-day appointment. Upon arrival, my car was taken in promptly. They did not try to sell my any services or parts my car did not need. Also, after asking about a specific repair I had done at the dealership, they provided an estimate of the same work for less than half of what I had already paid at the dealer. I will definitely keep them in mind for any future car repairs I can't easily do myself. Many of the surrounding locations are not as great so I drive from Naperville to this location and I have no complaints. read more

I have had a number of issues dealing with the pep boys in Chicago, so I was very hesitant going in and getting my car looked at here. I recently had some poor evaluations done on my car and needed to get a second opinion. Pep boys in Auroa not only took the time and effort to find the problem, they went out of their way to give me a ride to work, found discounts that applied and were just outright nice to deal with. I'm glad they opened this location and will definitely come back (hopefully not too soon). NEVER again!! Went there as I am a commuter from Indiana and my tires were 10lbs low. Told them that then decided to get a synthetic oil change while I was there. I as told it was a special with $30 off. Anyway got the oil change and $10 off and was told I have to go to the website to file for the other $20. Went back to work and checked my tire pressure on the dash board and it was 11lb LOW!! I called and they said..oh maybe your computer is wrong, bring it back. Brought it back the next day and different guys were there and they aired up my tires (saying we werent here so its not our fault). It was NEVER done in the first place. The packet they gave me where they are supposed to check off services like check fluids ect wasnt even checked on anything! and to top it off I cannot find a $20 refund..STAY AWAY. Pep Boys website is very comprehensive but be sure to print out any coupons and choose "pay at store" if you want to get credit for discounts/coupons for service! If you pay online for these discounts it can't be rung up at the shop properly. Bring printed paperwork & give to manager prior to commencing service appt. The manager, Sam Chripczuk was careful to explain the process when I called prior to my arrival. I had a Bosch car battery installed at a very reasonable price along with the battery protection service. Excellent service with a smile, great product, quick turn-around. read more

I am surprised at how great the service was. And I am writing this seconds after my car was taken care of. I had to have my turning relay sensor changed. I am told they are backlogged and to come back the next day. But then the technician Liam says it is a 5 minute job, walks out in the freezing cold ,and gets the job done !!! And the best part ? This is the best Pepboys location I've ever been to. It's not huge like other Pepboys but it is very clean inside. They have a vending machine, free coffee and a huge flat screen TV to watch while you wait. The guy Eric who works there was very helpful in telling me things about my car. Sign up for a Pepboys card while you're there or online and they will give you lots of discounts and coupons in the mail. I visited this pep boys on January 2nd 2018, the coldest day of the year to get the tire pressure on my vehicle adjusted. There was a white cavalier in front of me getting their tire's adjusted. I sat there because i'm thinking Great I'm next. There was an overweight Causation Male with red hair servicing the vehicle. He did not acknowledge me once the white care had pulled off. He went back into the garage and closed he door. This is the SECOND time this has happened to me this particular morning... Nonetheless I called inside of the store several times until someone FINALLY answered. The same guy came out and adjusted my tire pressure. I was going to tip him considering it was freezing but he did not acknowledge me at all. He did not say a word to me. Didn't even say thanks for coming to pep boys before he turned and walked away.. This is the worst place I have ever visited for auto repair. The store manager Jim Ajar in fact threw my keys out the store and to my comment that he doesn't seem to care about his customers he replied 'I don't care'!! I will stay away from this store at any cost. Here is what happened. they made repairs to my car with ball bearings and tie rods. When I picked up the car the car was making a grinding noise and all four lights ABS, SLIP, AWD and VDX came up. I called them and I took my car back for inspection. While at the store I asked the Store manager Jim Ajar what were the parts that they changed and what work they performed. To my astonishment he replied he didn't know, so I asked him to check their system for my invoice. He said he will not check. I said then he needs to provide me with his supervisor's phone number. At this point he grabbed my keys and through them out of the store and refuse to check the car. I called customer relations and then I went back and asked him again to check the car, while I had opened a case against him with Pepboys. He checked the car and claimed that the issues were unrelated with his work. When I asked to see the assessment he tried to extort 89.99 dollars for printing the assessment he had performed as part of validating their work. I refused to pay and he said that he will write a summary but it will take 45 minutes!! I accepted but while I was waiting he came back to me and said that he will not provide me with anything!! He said his Area Director by the name Anthony Montani had instructed him not to provide any documentation to me, and if I wanted anything else I will have to pay. Meanwhile Anthony Montani who is the regional sales manager was supposed to call me back after I filed a complaint about the store and the store manager. He never did. These two individuals don't care about the Pepboys customers or the Pepboys reputation, how unfortunate. read more
