On 9/21, I stopped by Pep Boys because my Jeep was vibrating between 50-65mph. I had just had an alignment done at another Pep Boys in Atlanta and that did not resolve the problem. I had an extensive conversation about the issue with the person at the service counter. He then took a look at the tires on my Jeep and found a bubble in a rear tire and advised that I buy a new tire. Since the tread was slightly worn on the other rear tire, I agreed to purchase 2. I returned on 9/23 for installation. After leaving, I headed back to Atlanta and the vibration was even worse. Since the Acworth location was already closed by that time and I was afraid to keep driving, I continued home and parked it. Believing it must be something more serious since I now had 3 brand-new tires (I had replaced one 3 weeks prior -- no vibration after) and another one less than a year old, I made an appointment with a much closer mechanic recommended by my dealership. They informed me that all was needed was for the tires to be balanced. Of course, they charged me $150 to do that after I had spent $350+ at Pep Boys. It's my understanding that balancing tires is part of installing them and I feel like they did not do my job and cost me extra money. Very disappointed in their service. Lesson learned for sure. My family and I, including my young child, were about 4 hours away from home and our car started overheating on Sunday, 10-13-24. We were about 3 miles from this location on Cobb Pkwy and made it to this location at 3:43 pm with our temperature gauge in the red, and were relieved , especially being so far away from home.....that is until we were denied any help because they closed in 17 minute. We walked to Walgreens to buy coolant and topped it off but it didn't help. A family stranded including 2 seniors and a young child were denied help. Read the long receipt carefully, especially if you have a coupon!!! I recently went in for tires and an oil change. Presented the oil change coupon when I checked in and left the vehicle. The detailed receipt was about 5 pages long, so checked it when I got home only to find out that no coupons were applied to the purchse, so cost $20 more than it should have. The work performed seems to be done well, it just leaves a bad taste to know the checkout has to be carefully watched and checked prior to leaving the facility. I contacted Pep Boys customer support who were virtually useless. Note, I'm very happy with the work performed, just not the checkout process. read more

We were traveling and our car has run flat tires. They didn't have a tire for us so we found one nearby but it would take several hours to install. Called pep boys and asked if they would install it for us. They installed it quickly and professionally. We asked what the charge was and he said no charge "we're traveling". Worst place ever! Took my car for brakes & rotor replacements. $701.23 way over priced 1st of all for all four wheels. Once the tech was completed the cars keys were handed off to the cashier & then handed over to me with a side note *"the tech spilt brake fluid on the rotors, he tried to get as much off as possible; but just so you know, it'll smell like some thing is burning". D'oh butter fingers! But no biggy. After driving the car for three days the smell gets worse rather than going away. On the fourth day my check brake light comes on, and then the brakes go out! That's correct, completely gave way! Fortunately no one was hurt and nothing was damaged aside from a NDE moment. Had to have the vehicle towed back to their shop, for a re-inspection. Apparently and according to their company the tech who spilt the fluid on the rotors, didn't install the calipers correctly, which ruined the back rotors, ruined the brake lines (some how) and.... well obviously ruined the calipers. So we were with out transportation for a full day, land locked! Obviously they needed to correct the brake system nightmare they created. They replaced the entire brake pads, rotors, new calipers & brake lines at their expense! Which was to be expected. How ever, being my only vehicle (which they were told) they offered no compensation for my time being land locked at the house. The corporate office has been called, I've asked for a full refund on the initial labor portion of the job $340 as compensation. -I didn't pay them $701.23 to have my brake system ruined and have them keep my vehicle unexpectedly. The corp. office recommend I settle this with the store manager Jeff. Who more or less laughed off my request for compensation of them screwing up the job he tried to explain to me that the calipers "just fell off" and that he feels they've "gone above & beyond". No Sir! Going above would have been doing the job right the 1st time, going beyond would be $340 (-labor cost) compensation for my family being with out a vehicle due to your stores negligence. (Imagine the lawsuit had there been an actual accident!) Not only am I peeved about their quality of work, poor costumer service, now I can add, I'm tremendously peeved at his/their arrogance to assume I'd buy the none sense of "they just fell off" & they "went above and beyond". If you care about your car and need tires, alignment, etc. take it to Salgados. The one time I don't go to Salgados I have to wait an hour+. Then when leaving my car is already losing traction just trying to get to 20 mph. The next day it got better. But still if I make any right turn or curve with some speed I lose traction and feels like it starts to swerve. It's been a month or so. I have an alignment warranty but I'd rather not have them work on my car again or anyone else drive my car to figure out the problem. Go salgados. Save yourself the trouble and have your vehicle fixed elsewhere! This shop is a joke. Initial visit the vehicle was there to get a coil pack replaced. That was fine until we found out they left the hose for the radiator off. About 4 miles into driving away car started over heating. Turns out they had to remove the reservoir for coolant to get to the coil pack. So that blew the water pump and tried to make us pay; they did end up fixing after I called them. Then they found out the block was cracked and agreed to fix the problem after some coaxing. Get the car back after 2-3 weeks (never 1 mention of a rental while my daughter went with out her car during this time). Any way... both valve covers developed a leak and now PEPBOYS refuses to fix stating it had nothing to do with their repairs. Even though they had to take them off the old block to put on to the new one. SO PEPBOYS I WILL DO EVERYTHING I CAN TO WARN PEOPLE OF YOUR CRAPPY SERVICE AND LOW QUALITY OF STANDARDS AND REPAIRS!! Pepboys has extremely long wait times so just expect that. They do not include balancing in their lifetime rotations when you purchase tires from them. This is not good customer service in my opinion. I do not recommend buying tires here or servicing your vehicle here. I do sometimes recommend them for parts. They have a nice selection of merchandise in store but make sure you check around for prices, they seem to be a bit inflated. Also, they seem to be nice and helpful. Only problem is, they tend to like to say that they are really busy and want you to come back another day with an appointment. Doesn't help, because if you make an appointment, you will still be there waiting for hours. read more

Took my old car in for a battery and was charged $205. Ridiculous price for a battery. We have had issues in the past with them adding on extra warranty charges that we did not authorize. They also wanted $900 for a part that they said was "the cheapest one they found in the area" which we found a 1/4 mile from them for $500. I took a car in for an oil change and they lost my key. Took them about an hour to find it. They also did an "alignment" and the car veered to the right just as much as it did before said alignment. In my opinion they are the worst repair shop around. They could have told her it was some really expensive service, like the previous place that quoted $500. She walked out paying about $50 for a simple fix. They put a starter on my car last year and it went bad within 3 months, they replaced it and the second one went back within another couple months. I'm on my third starter from them. And only because they replaced it under warranty, otherwise I would have gone somewhere else by now! Recently my friend got his battery replaced by them and it lasted two weeks! It is very common to find bad reviews when things do not go as planned. However, this is not the case with my experience today with this Pep Boys. My wife's car started to run very rough and ultimately pulled over and had it towed to this location. For the next two days they tried everything including diagnostics, tune up with new spark plugs, all new coils, with little improvement. After some conversation it was recommended to have it taken to the dealership to explore further options. After all their time and effort I was expecting some charges. Both, Jose the manager and Perry service tech agreed that they would not charge for something they could not fix. That took a bad situation for my wife and I and tried to correct it. And then when they couldn't, worked with me to make it the best it could be. Really appreciate their honesty especially in this industry!!! read more

I scheduled an appointment with Pep Boys because they had a coupon for an oil change. Normally I prefer using mom and pop shops because that's an easy way to shop local and the prices are normally competitive. I should have stuck with that philosophy. Here is why they got two stars: · My appointment was at 6. I showed up at 5:45 and stood in the doorway unsure as to where to go (because this was my first time ever stepping foot in this store) for 7 minutes before I was greeted by the guy behind the counter. · Once I was greeted, I explained I had an appointment for an oil change and I also had a coupon for said oil change. The guy told me that he could give me the $20 off, but that coupon didn't include my type of oil filter because I have a "special" oil filter so I would have to pay more. My $20 off coupon just turned into $10 off. My "special" car is a Toyota Corolla. · The guy behind the counter asked if I wanted my tires rotated because it was included in the price. I told him I didn't need them rotated because I just got new tires not even a week ago so they weren't needing that today and I'd prefer to get finished as soon as possible. · Five minutes into my oil change my car was jacked up, hood open, and all 4 tires removed. · When the guy came to me to tell me what all I needed changed on my car (insert eye roll), I asked why my tires were removed. His answer was " Oh. I remember you told me you had new tires. I guess I forgot to tell them in the shop that you declined it." Ordinarily this wouldn't have been a huge deal except I was 15 minutes early to try to get out early and I was already an hour into my oil change. · Finally after an hour and a half of my oil being changed they told me my car was ready. Chris actually went and looked found it was not on the shelf, but kept looking and found another item that suited my needs even better at a different location. Also I had motor oil to turn in to recycle but slightly more than rule allows per day. Again, Chris stepped up and said they would take all my oil. She was so right ! While visiting my daughter in Georgia, I had an issue with my car. Being a repeat Pep Boys customer, I naturally went to the closest Pep Boys location. Unfortunately, the issue is a relatively common problem on my make/model vehicle, but the screws/bolts/etc that are required for the repair are not commonly kept in stock. Knowing that I had to return to my home out of state, I was concerned about making that trip. The tech assured me that they could "zip tie" the part back into place. I contacted my husband who said that would be a sufficient temporary fix, and also reminded me that it had been "zip tied" once before when the correct parts were not immediately available. Although they could/should have charged me for the temporary fix, they simply said they appreciated that our family members are repeat Pep Boys customers so they didn't charge me and just asked that we continue to use Pep Boys for our automotive needs. I brought my Toyota Matrix in today. I had just left another tire dealer down the road and needed a second opinion. I was helped by Perry E. He was responsive. He obviously knew what he was doing. He went the extra mile to make sure my tires were in stock before he quoted me a price. He promised me a time to get the tires done and had them done early. My favorite part was-- the alignment was part of the original quote but they found out I didn't need an alignment. He could have charged me anyway and I would have never known but nope, Perry told me I didn't need one and removed it from the invoice. For honesty and courtesy - Perry -- You get an A+ from me. I went there for a quick patch for a low tire, and the salesman tried to force me into purchasing 4 new tires, an alignment, and all sorts of other crap that totaled almost $600. I got there after work, at around 5:20pm, and just wanted them to fix one tire before I had to get on I-75 to drive home. They kept me there for 2 hours, all the while this guy is telling me lies, trying to convince me of things I did not need. After I waited for 2 hours, a nice mechanic came to tell me there was just a small staple in the tire, and a quick patch was all that was needed. Had I been an idiot and believed the sales guy, I would be out $600 instead of the $20 for the patch. AND there is no reason I should have been there until 7:30. Ridiculous. Steer Clear. I went in about 4:30 on a Thursday afternoon, my new work truck was due for it's first oil change and tire rotation, it is a enterprise commercial lease set up with a few major automotive service companies. I was one of 2 customers, 45 minutes after the other customer left, and 1 and a half hours of sitting in the waiting area they drove my truck into the garage and spent another hour changing oil and rotating wheels. They did not know how to reset the tire pressure monitoring system, and told me it fix itself after I drive it a while. You have got to be kidding me, It took 2 min. to find out how this is done in the owner's manual. It requires a relearning tool be used Which they now claim to have and I can just bring it back again and have them do it. Oh sure, that should only take an hour and a half as long as they don't have any other customers. Next time I'll try Jiffy Lube. read more
