Inexpensive and fast take away friendly service its pretty good fast and convenient fairly cheap price

My sister ordered from this place before years ago and thought it was just okay. We decided to get take out from here last night and it was some of the best Americanized Chinese food I could find in Massachusetts! Ever since I moved to Boston I had been on the hunt for shrimp lo mein and shrimp with broccoli. Two of my favorite dishes I used to get in CT. It is hard to find good Americanized Chinese food in Boston, but there is plenty of good authentic Chinese. The lo mein was delicious, they use the egg noodles which for some reason very very few places in MA do. The shrimp and broccoli was cooked perfectly, broccoli was crunchy and shrimp was fresh. Ask for brown sauce instead of white sauce! We ordered a bunch of other dishes, general tso's chicken, chicken and mixed veggies, chicken fried rice etc. I personally didn't try any of those cause I was way too stuffed but heard good feedback about them. The customer service here is so nice, the prices are decent but the food is very mediocre. The rice didn't have too much flavor, and I asked for extra bean sprouts wish they had no issues accommodating. I got the three appetizers combo, I got boneless spare ribs, crab rangoon, and beef teriyaki. None of it was anything to like Rave about if taste it all pretty bland. I have been a customer of Peony Pavillion for over 10 years. A new owner came in and bought the restaurant a couple weeks ago. I have eaten there several times since they changed ownership and was disappointed. They have changed the ingredients of my two favorite dishes: crab Rangoon and Shrimp Pad Thai. The crab Rangoon was under cooked and greasy. I went back and asked them to make it again but it still wasn't crispy. The previous owners made the wonton crispy like a potato chip. These new ones were soggy and fell apart in my hands. Then I ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai. They changed the sauce and the ingredients. The shrimp was undercooked. It seemed like it had come out of a frozen bag of shrimp. The peanuts on top were greasy instead of crunchy. This is so disappointing. I cannot recommend you eat there. read more

I went to this location for nearly 20 years, but after last week I'm absolutely heart broken. I'm extremely disappointed by what they have done to their chicken wings. I miss they good old recipe they had for the wings. Now their food just looks and taste like I went to a KFC. The food felt like they went air fry crazy, and not just the wings, but the chicken fingers, and the crab ragoons too. Little start wars there haha, but yeah super sad to say I probably won't be going back. read more

About as average for an American Chinese food spot as you can get. Food at least comes out really quick. I would not recommend the pork strips, they're way too dry and flavorless. Everything else you could get is just okay. Probably stick to the usual American Chinese orders. read more

Ordered here the other night. I got the chicken with garlic sauce, which I liked but it was supposed to be spicy and wasn't, with beef teriyaki an egg roll and chicken lo mein ... I got two skimpy beef teriyaki sticks(next time I'll get the chicken wings instead), but the egg rolls always delicious, and this is my FAVORITE place that makes the chicken lo mein so that was amazing per usual. My boyfriend got the sweet and sour chicken and it was just chicken fingers with a side of sauce, with crab rangoon an egg roll and pork fried rice. He wasn't impressed with his meal at all, actually it made him feel really sick, so that's concerning. But delivery was super quick!!! My go to restaurant when I'm in the area. What really separates this place from most fast food chinese restaurants is that they use fresh, quality ingredients. The food is awesome and the owners are really nice and friendly. They never disappoint and even have low calorie options. My favorites: Peking raviolis, boneless spare ribs, Tung Ting shrimp, Vegetable Lo Mein, Yang Chow fried rice and any of the lunch specials. Fresh, great tasting, and NO MSG puts it on the top for Chinese take out. FYI: They now use DoorDash and Uber eats for delivery. read more

Having ordered from many places over the years, I understand how busy places can get. But almost two hours to get less than a mile? Pretty ridiculous. After calling three times and being told that the food was "on the way, no ore than 10 minutes", we got fed up. This is after calling, and having the girl asking me to hold on, and then putting the phone down while I listened to her take call after call after call with people placing orders. Again, ridiculous. When I'm home in West Roxbury, I'm kind of a lazy bum, and I like to nest in my bedroom and wait for food to come to me. Granted, if I'm a lazy bum, I generally expect to be eating trashy food most of the time, because, well that's just the way it is for people who don't want to go out. But Peony Pavilion makes being a lazy bum actually not so bad at all. The menu is your usual Chinese takeout for white people, but I try to avoid foods that are likely going to be bad - chicken fingers, wings, lobster sauce, egg foo young - all the stuff that Chinese people don't eat. The orange chicken? Awesome. The beef and string bean on white rice, however? Even better. Their soups are tasty - though probably filled with MSG - and if you get their lunch specials, everything is way cheap, delivered to your door. I'm Chinese, and I approve! read more

This place has one of the best boneless spare ribs that I've ever had. They're a nice color with a hint of crispiness, and there's little to no fat on them (compared to other Chinese places). On the other hand, the General Gao's chicken was rather bland, not good at all. When I paid the bill, I was reminded of how expensive Chinese food is. I had my food delivered and during opening the food containers, the aluminum box cracked at the edges and cut my thumb! WTF, that's never happened to me before, and worse, the box had cracked in multiple areas - talk about quality. I don't know where this restaurant gets its supplies, but be careful when you open your food. Also make sure your tetanus shots are up to date! read more

Peony Pavilion is my go to for gluten free Chineese food. The owner and his son are more than happy to accomadate my food allergies. The dishes they prepare for me have always been fresh and delicious. Being gf I often order the Pad Thai. It is hands down the best around town. Filled with chicken and veggies. A little pricey compared to other Chinese places in the area, but the food is pretty above average. Their deliver is super fast too. When you order, they tell you 30-45 minutes but they show up in 15 for me, at least usually. Fast delivery + above average food = worth the little bit higher price tag. read more

Is there any good take out Chinese food out there? This is the second place I have tried in Dedham and it is not good. How can you screw up fried rice? Not sure what all these other reviewers are talking about but I trusted this place because I read these reviews. What a mistake! The orange chicken and garlic chicken were fatty and disgusting. The teryaki steak was dry and looked old. The fried rice was so dry, I stopped eating it because I couldn't swallow another bite. Even the egg roll was horribly mushy and just nasty. Plus the prices were a bit high and the delivery took forever. Take my advice, if you are going to get take out Chinese, make the drive to Mandarin in Brookline, pay a bit more and enjopy your food. Life is too short to eat nasty Chinese food! UGHH. read more

I used to eat from this place weekly. The vegetables were always fresh and crisp and the meats were always lean and abundant. Last month I ordered and the food was barely edible. The vegetables were past their sell-by dates and the appetizers were clearly commercial. I searched hard for the shrimp in my dish. Pity, because they became really complacent. read more

Hands down the most disgusting Chinese food I've ever had. This is worse than buffet food. My sesame chicken was literally not edible. I took 2 bites and threw it all away. It tasted like chemical waste. That chicken was either spoiled or not chicken. And I'm not being dramatic. So disgusting. I hope I don't get sick from this. read more

Not sure why there are poor reviews. We love this place. If you want fancy fried American-style Chinese food, go to Bamboo or P.F. Chang's. This place is incredibly good for more authentic food and at very reasonable prices. We order from here about once a week and food is always ready within 15 minutes of ordering. Yes, they can be short and quick on the phone but I see this is a positive. If you are looking to be treated like royalty, I'd say small Chinese take-out restaurants are not where you should be looking.... The food here was decent -- the combo platters were generous and my siblings were pleased. However, vegetarians/vegans beware: the tofu dishes are apparently ALL prepared with meat!! That's according to the owners, after discovering pork in the spicy tofu.
