From the moment I set foot in the city of Salem, I knew that staying in Boston was a mistake. Salem is a cultural hub of art, history and culinary traditions. Chief among them is Pentagram. It is a shop that is unapologetically itself. The incredible layout of the store has the air of a medieval apothecary and yet maintains an openness to anyone with a curious mind. Everyone who works there has an immense knowledge of both their store and the local area. The psychic readings are an absolute must (Chrissy in particular is an excellent guide into the art of divination). Is it more expensive than a street reading in your home town? Yes, but the reading is worth every penny. There is a wide variety of books from around the world and different practices if you're into that. As an experience however, I'd argue that this shop is as unmissable as any museum or tour. I've had several phone readings with Leanne in the past. I originally wanted to see her in person while visiting Boston during the Halloween season, but she was fully booked and I couldn't get an appointment--so I did phone readings instead. Even over the phone, Leanne's insight has always been incredibly accurate and helpful. Today, I really needed a reading, but since Leanne only reads on Mondays and today was Thursday, I decided to book with Tim--her husband. I'm honestly so glad I did. His style was exactly what I needed: direct, no sugar-coating, and straight to the point, which matches my own personality. He gave me clear answers to things that had been weighing on me, touched on aspects of my personality that confirmed the accuracy of the reading, and offered some predictions for the future--which I'll definitely update once they come to pass. He was also kind and generous with his time, going over the scheduled appointment without rushing. While I've always gone to Leanne, I really appreciated Tim's approach, and I might even be leaning more toward his style now. Sometimes, it's all about timing--you end up booking with whoever is available, and they turn out to be one of the best readers you were meant to connect with. There are a lot of choices here, but they are the same type of things you can find all over Salem. We visited many shops and it appears they all order/carry the same merchandise just with different price points...this place being one of the more expensive ones. They do have just about anything one would need for spellcraft including dried herbs, though, so that's nice. They were offering readings upstairs in little spaces closed off by curtains. I personally felt invasive, though both my husband and I were actively trying NOT to listen to what was being said. The people were speaking rather loudly and we ended up leaving that area because it was so uncomfortable. This review is long overdue. I visited Pentagram back in late July. It was pouring rain on our visit to Salem so my kids and I ducked into the shop after we walked by the cemetery. We took in all goodies in the shop and then I realized that we could book readings. I booked palm readings with Chris for each of my kids (10 and 12 years old). I sat in on the readings with each of my kids. To say that Chris is amazing is an understatement! Chris nailed both of my kids' personalities with such precision. Chris handled both of my kids with so much much kindness. My only disappointment was that I didn't get a reading for myself because the shop was about to close. Today was a great day until I paid for my 16 yr old daughter to get a reading done. She was afraid to go by herself. Last year we went together(inside the booth). The larger man with curly hair at the door said there was no way he was letting me with her. Its been policy for years. Which wasn't true. She was almost in tears not wanting to go by herself. We paid 50$. This is unreal that a parent cannot be with their teenager. Even under the age of 18. I stopped in while touring the Burying Point Cemetery in Salem (which I highly recommend). The store is right next to the Salem Witch Memorial. I just thought it looked cool. Really nice staff, stuffs a little pricey for the trinkets they have but it's all really good quality and the staff genuinely know what they are talking about and want to help. I'm having a hard time believing all these 5 star reviews. Mine was not. I had an appt with Mathew for a mediumship reading. Phht. Nothing he said was correct!! He said he heard from two people...his description of them was so out there...like no one I know or have know. then he asked for names and almost everything he said was wrong ...unless there was some indication or hint from me about the people named.
