She does not seem pushy and lets a customer browse through the shop. The store offers many local flavors and other items that an individual would enjoy as one of a kind too. I went here last October and finally remembered to write a review because my experience in this store is such a bad memory. I came into the store with 2 friends and we were tourists visiting Salem for the day. The owner stared us down as we entered the store, intruded on our space, and proceeded to follow one of my friends (despite the fact that we had gift bags from other stores and clearly had intentions to purchase). She kept hovering around us and kept asking if we were going to buy every single necklace that we saw. She wasn't hovering to offer help, be friendly, or strike up a conversation. It was clearly to monitor us. Not sure if the owner's behavior is because she didn't believe we were going to buy anything or because she is a rude person. If you are a tourist please find other places to purchase from because customers/visitors don't deserve to be treated and disrespected like this. read more

I just left the shop after having my tarot reading read. I wish i remembered the man's name who did my reading or find the shop's socials. Everything in the shop was priced well. The store owner was very kind and helpful even when I was looking for my brothers, she offered to walk with me to find them. My tarot reading was very helpful and accurate to my life, and gave me genuine guidance on where to go in life. If I wasn't from Indiana I would come back here regularly. Just avoid it. As a Salem local, it's pretty easy to tell the difference between genuine shops and tourist traps. Not only does this person run a plastic scented phony witchcraft store, but she yells at and smart mouths the paying customers. She's easily one of the most unpleasant people in the town. Everything in her store can be bought next door or online. Just go there. She chased my husband and I out for writing down the name of a book I intended on coming back for. Gross. read more

We are trying to get a hold of you guys all the way from Toronto. My friend and I were in there during Halloween and we spent close a a grand between the two us. Wandered in, as one does. ^_^ Was immediately impressed by the choices of inventory - there was a wide range, more depth of knowledge, less pretension than we expected. And the store was clean, bright and full of both local and unique items, as well as more commonly available things. We were glad to see a favorite brand of incense, and after some great conversation with Carl, I found myself buying a Lllewellyn book for the first time in decades. They've got chops and don't need to shove it in your face. The store and the folks are welcoming, friendly and fun. We dropped a lot more money than expected and had a great time doing it. We'll definitely be back when we visit Salem next. read more

If you only visit one shop in Salem, make it this one. We just left after basically buying the whole shop. The owner and her little girl were SOOO nice. My kids played with her little one while we shopped. Everything in the store is beautiful and she was very helpful with the endless questions my 13 year old had and the endless stories she tells. Plus I kept agreeing to let my family buy whatever they wanted because it's really reasonably priced. We're from Vegas and won't enter ANY shops there because of the energy. New England Magic is a fantastic little shop with incredibly friendly staff and a great inventory. Their selection of books is very impressive, as is their selection of candles, crystals, pendants, oils, incense, etc. Each time my boyfriend and I stopped in during our trip to Salem, the owners were more than happy to converse with us. This was a very interesting shop. They had a lot of stuff. From books to wands to statues, I was impressed with the layout and design of this shop. Wandered through this shop on a brief break from the family touring while my little guy was napping in the Hotel. I'd made it through many of the shops and attractions and was a little sad about the commercial emphasis on money and love spells that I found, and then I popped into New England Magic on my way back from Gallows Hill. The energy in the store was amazing, and the owner was working with a family of little girls explaining how a crystal ball could be helpful. His explanation made me smile as I looked at the book selection. It was easy to relate to at any age, open, warm, and matter of fact. I enjoyed the selection in the store and felt that it was the best I had encountered anywhere, especially in Salem. I bought a book, and then came back the next day with the family in tow. My husband was also impressed by the store content and the owner. I ended up with a beautiful pair of tree of life/pentacle earrings made by a retired jeweler. I could have spent a lot more time (and money) in that store but we had to high tail it to the airport to catch our flight home. I absolutely will return to visit Salem and New England Magic. They have some cute handmade art, a very nice selection of besoms, wonderful book selection, and several amazing book of shadows on display that I could have spent hours going through. I was originally from Salem I was visiting this week with my mom for my grandmas funeral I haven't been back to Salem in 17 years. All the witch stores in Southern California where I live are gone or just not worth going in. I was super please to find this store today the owner Joanne was very nice and my mom felt comfortable here unlike some of the other stores we went in to today. By far the best store on Essex street!!! I even got a birthday discount and Joanne was the friendliest lady at I've met today! The store was larger than most with a great selection! After visiting this shop in late June, I had to go back ASAP. The staff is amazing, very knowledgeable, and now my go to place for just about everything! My boyfriend took me back just to get me a pendant that I had seen while there the first time. Once again, a very wonderful experience today, and I left the shop with a beautiful pendant.
