We are tourists, we only get to Salem once a year but we always go into Village Silversmith to shop around and my daughter always buys a silver bracelet or necklace of one kind or another. Last year she bought a beautiful bracelet with large skulls. This year she wasn't able to go with us but I had my orders to take pictures and buy her a bracelet. I got there at the end of the night on a Sunday and took some pictures of the bracelet case and had to call my daughter to talk about which ones she liked. They were actually closing but one of the staff, a very lovely woman with a ton of patience helped me out after I explained that I was trying to do this by phone. Even at the end of the day after a very busy weekend, they still had smiles on their faces and were extremely helpful. We ended up buying a very cool crystal necklace that was a bottle and a bracelet. The staff made what had the potential to be very stressful into a good experience even though I knew that they were probably tired and worn out from the crazy October weekend. Do NOT spend your money on this place. I bought a silver ring and wore it, and by the end of the day, my finger was completely green. I own tons of silver rings and none have ever done this. If there's a crystal heaven, it's Village Silversmith. Most higher priced items are in cases and there's an employee parked at different sections so you're never searching for someone to help you. They have tall cases and short cases full of merchandise. It is a bit awkward when you want to see something in the tall cases against the wall because the employee not only has to stand there with you (not really helping more just guarding the cases) but also has to hold your items up at the front. Every piece is visible and easy to see, but I wish they organized their layout differently. In the higher priced cases, the organization is by stone. It's easy to see your favorites and easy to skip over your not-so-favorites. The rest of the store is a bit more of a free for all - all different size/shape stones, each individually held in white boxes. They have everything from gemstone witch's hat medallions to crystal spheres in all sizes to gemstone stretchy bracelets. If you can't find what you're looking for at Village Silversmith, it probably does not exist. This was by far the largest crystal/gemstone shop in all of Salem. read more

A store filled with crystals! OOooooHHHhhhhh~ done. Plus they have jewelry- hence the silversmith. But I was in heaven looking at so many different stones! Some raw, some polished, some cut. My friends and I went to Salem to see some baby goats. My friend wandered into this store while I was in the bathroom. I recognized the name, and remembered I had bought a ring there I really liked last year, so I went to follow her in. The door guy stops me, and starts going on about how he can't allow me inside with my service dog unless he has a vest on, which is discrimination, and illegal. Service dogs aren't required to wear service dog vests in public. They can ask "is that a service dog?" And "what service do they provide?" I explain that to him, and he's going on and on about how "in his experience" it's a "bad idea" because the store is crowded.. (it wwsnt even that crowded) He goes on about how he's been doing this a "long time" and blah blah.. so I say "I've had him for 11 years, and in my experience, including in this store. He's fine.." (very calmly, mind you) He says "now I'm going to deny your business because you're being argumentative" yea.. about my rights as a disabled person.. I step out of the doorway. I'm not fighting him anymore.. and two seconds later, he lets my boyfriend in with his emotional support animal because he showed him paperwork. I would have shown him paperwork if he asked, even though they're not supposed to, but he started arguing with me right off the bat. Very unprofessional, and discriminatory. AMAZING PLACE IF YOU WANT AMAZING PRICED CRYSTALS!!! I paid $8 for the selenite heart! Which is typically over $10 any other place!! The labradorite... you'll never believe me but $34!!!!! What!!!????? They had pieces of other crystals that were bigger than the labradorite and they were cheaper!!!! The chalcedony was $14!!! They had pieces of chalcedony in different shapes that were more than that but this one I loved! Also got this beautiful amethyst for $60!!!! Only one issue was I got this beautiful carnelian piece but they forgot to pack it in our bag, but thankfully I checked the bag before we went on our plane and I called them and the manager apologized and found it and said they would email a picture of it just to make sure (it was the one!) and then asked for me to just reply with my address and so they're going to ship it to me! Just an FYI, if you're looking at the fossils, many of the cheaper ones have been stained/painted to highlight the fossil in the rock.They look cool and are reasonably priced, but most aren't high quality. They have a very wide variety of gems and crystals. I was shocked when I walked inside how organized everything was. The girl at the counter was also more than helpful. Can't remember her name she had just gotten back from a gem expo though and was super knowledgeable.
