I am not really into the metaphysical / crystal / occult that seems to pervade the air in and around Salem, however in planning a weekend there with my girl, we came across something very cool. * Aura Photography * The reservation process is not the greatest... You go online, choose a day you want to do your thing, pay for it, and then wait for a confirmation response. Eventually you get tired of waiting and call them up only to be told, yeah come in anytime, it's not actually a reservation... Sigh... Once you get there you go in back where they seat you (or you and your partner if doing a couples photo), and you place your hand on some metal sensors, and they take a long exposure photo. Then you get to walk around and check out the things available to buy while you wait for your photo to develop, and then one of the staff members interprets the aura for you. It seems like it costs a lot of money to take what seems to be a Polaroid but giving it the mystical meanings they describe is kinda fun and cool! The shop itself is full of books, and wonderful crystals of every color with nearby descriptor cards explaining what each crystal is supposed to do for you. read more

The crystals here are authentically sourced, the staff are experts, and the atmosphere is immaculate. I have always wanted to do an aura reading and what better place than Salem! My husband and I dropped by and were able to get in relatively quickly. Prices were fair and loved that they do an interpretation of it afterwards. We had to leave for another resy but they were cool about letting us come back to complete it. I did knock it down a star because the blonde lady by the register was a lil rude. Just very short and looked frustrated with any question we asked. My friend and I came to Salem all the way from St Louis, and out of all the stores we've been to, Ascend has been my favorite! The vibe there is light and friendly. i visited on monday (11/18) around 11am to receive an aura photo for $45. i was quite excited to see there was no line & a taller brunette man quickly checked me out without saying my total or offering a receipt. i then had my photo taken by hannah, waited for it to develop, & finally had another gal verbally explain what the colors in my photo meant. while i did not find my reading to be truthful, i still had a pleasant time and was happy to have a unique photo. i later checked my bank statement and was upset to find a $80+ charge. i called ascend to dispute this and found out the taller gentleman did not charge me correctly at all and added a $35 charge due to a 2 page aura reading to my total. whether this was on purpose or not, i am disappointed as i never asked for this page report and somehow the man purposefully never caught the total to be almost twice as much as it should have been ... it was a quick call to be refunded the extra $35, but that conversation would have been completely avoidable. read more

If you're having an otherwise wonderful day in Salem and are enjoying the spirit of the town, but want to have this spirit completely disturbed, then take a stroll into this store. I overheard the owner/employee say something rude behind another customer's back. Thought I heard wrong. But then not much later he said something rude to his colleague or friend about me behind my back. Salem is a town of inclusion and belonging. It is a town of people with open minds. This guy is lost. He should move to a different part of the country. Sadly, they do have a wonderful selection everytime I've gone there, but this guy's rotten spirit completely disturbed the aura of this place. Won't be stepping in there again. read more

I did a past-life regression with Sunshine and had a FANTASTIC experience. I've held off on doing it before because I was iffy about the process and not sure if I felt safe being hypnotized by a stranger. What I loved about Sunshine's process is she puts you in a meditative / trance state rather than using hypnosis. I was fully aware the whole time and felt safe knowing I could willingly open my eyes at any point if I didn't feel safe. Thankfully this wasn't the case at all. Four of my sisters/best friends and I visited Salem for a girls trip and happened upon the store, ASCEND. We went in to browse their crystal collection and ended up making some lovely purchases. We all agreed it was one of the most beautiful stores with such a palpable, positive energy flowing through it!! We attribute such light and peaceful energy not only to the crystals, but also to the energy workers, mediums, and psychics working in the store. We made an appointment to do a group reading with Ellen and we can EASILY say it was the highlight of our entire weekend. Ellen's gift is so pure and true and our experience with her is one that I still cannot stop thinking about and sharing with others. Some of us who had never had a reading before were a little bit anxious, but Ellen instantly calmed our nerves with her lovely energy and notable compassion and love for sharing her gift with others.
