I visited The Witchery Spell Book Class this past weekend with my friends, and it was such a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets of Salem! I really appreciated that the class felt quiet and private -- it was great to have that calm space to create without a big crowd around. The project itself was a lot of fun, and I loved the creative atmosphere. My only small suggestion would be to mention ahead of time that certain leather options can't be stamped -- I ended up using paint pens instead, which still worked out fine! Overall, it was a unique and memorable experience -- especially when I had the whole class recite a spell over their books for good luck before we left. My husband surprised me with a broom making class for my birthday which is on Halloween. The class was mostly full but had a few extra seats available so the room wasn't too crowded. We were told my husband couldn't stay to watch even though there were chairs open and he would be out of the way like it's some secret. He wandered about and I selected the items to build my broom. I think the flow could be improved for how people select their various charms, flowers, straw, etc. I also really would have appreciated being able to mix my colored straw in with the yellow straw, but with the way the steps are laid out I didn't have that option. The instructor was nice, albeit I felt like he spoke to us as if we were kindergarteners. It felt a bit juvenile and condescending at times, but he was VERY thorough and everyone accomplished making brooms effectively. I'm really happy with how mine turned out, but I don't think they look as high end as the price suggests. It's not something I would do again, but it was a fun thing to do on my birthday. read more

We attended one of their crafting classes (book binding). There was some construction going on in the area and most of the class was a few minutes later than expected checkin. She (I'm sorry - I missed her name) took a few minutes to call every party and get their ETA. We got started maybe 5-10 minutes late - but that happens. The instruction was given by Demi (I think?) and she was patient, and kind, and took her time going at a very easy pace, but certainly not too slow. In the end everyone left with a beautiful, hand-bound, leather-bound book. My husband and I wrapped up about 20 minutes early. We were not the first to finish, nor were we the last. The class had ample time to finish without feeling rushed or pushed. 10/10. Highly recommend. I can't wait to bring my daughter there. read more

This is a great place to bring visitors to Salem to pick up a broom making kit and instructions and bring home to do a great project with kids and/or friends. I reserved a broom making class a few months in advance knowing how busy it would be near Halloween. The prices were a little high but a lot is included for making the broom. It was relatively easy to find and I thought the Instructor, Talman, was kind and informative. He was patient with all different skill levels and even shared fun stories and history about Salem separate from broom making. I purchased some separate addons for my broom which increased the price but this was worth it to me as how many times are you going to get to do something like this? This turned out to be my favorite part of my visit - hands on, educational, have something to take home to keep, what a great experience. read more

The whole experience was wonderful. The instructor was great. She was there to help and show us step by step the art of broom making. We never felt rushed. My niece and went to the Witchery to make a broom. This was our first visit to Salem and the experience of broom making is an absolute must do!!!! Tomin was our instructor and he was absolutely amazing. My SIL and I had the best time making brooms. The instructors did a great job and they had no issues helping us make the brooms.

We had an awesome time in their broom making class. It was an hour long which was just the right amount of time. We didn't feel rushed. They told us that the UPS store nearby has special boxes so you can ship them home. We decided to ship ours so they didn't get crushed in our luggage. My friend Erin told me about this place and I made a point to go here on my trip to Salem this past summer. If you find yourself in Salem be sure to stop in because you can MAKE YOUR OWN BROOM! How could I pass it up?! Not only can you make a broom (in various sizes, btw), you can also make a leather bound journal. There's lots to choose from for both journals and broom design. The staff is super cool and friendly. The classes are small and non intimidating. The woman who taught my class also let me buy a red love themed broom that hung in the window and I thank her for that. My brooms are well loved and cared for. read more

TLDR: Don't trust that your paid deposit + confirmation actually mean that your workshop will take place - have backup plans in pocket. Nice shop, but ***cannot*** recommend their workshops. We've visited in November in past years as walk-ins and each time their broom making & book binding sessions were booked - which is understandable. This time , we planned ahead better and booked (and gave a $50 deposit) for their book-binding session on-line (and received confirmation thereof) well beforehand. This was to be *** the highlight of my teens birthday visit to Salem***. Unfortunately, late on Thanksgiving evening, mere hours before our session at 10:30 the next morning, The Witchery advised us that our session was cancelled. (But of course, had WE cancelled less than 24 hours before, we would've lost our $50 deposit - which makes this extra aggravating). Allegedly, the shop didn't have enough participants. Yet when we visited the shop (just to shop) at the same time as our previous session time, there was just one person with a guest working on a broom in the workshop area. And it's not like that participant was waiting for others to show - they were clearly in the middle of crafting their broom, and as the website states, if you're late for your workshop, "we cannot start over for you." So much for "not enough participants" for a session. And, had we known earlier in the week, we could've made alternate arrangements to try to find/ book a class elsewhere for this special birthday treat for our kid. But with only 14 hours notice on Thanksgiving weekend, that was neigh impossible. They did offer us the option to do a take-home kit, but the whole point is to personalize the leather covers, etching them, using stencils, embossing, knives, binding, feathers, herbs, charms, and various add-ons that the store provides, along with the guidance of the "instructor". None of which is applicable with a take-home kit. I mean, I could go to Hobby Lobby and buy the basic supplies from their kit on my own! As their website promotes, "Our workshops are immersive crafting sessions!" - Which is markedly different than a take home kit. They did not charge me, but did advise it'd be 2-3 weeks until I see a refund of my deposit - which I shall be keeping a sharp eye our for. They did apologize, but this is just exceptionally unprofessional. Afterall, if I were a no-show, or cancelled less than 24 hours beforehand as they did, "There are no refunds for late cancellations [less than 24 hours], tardiness, or "no shows" ." Very disappointing - especially to see a one guest workshop taking place in front of our eyes. It's too bad. We spent around $300 on two other visits buying broom supplies and intended to spend another $150 or so on this book-binding workshop. read more
