Supplies to get started on our spell book
Alyssa G.

I visited The Witchery Spell Book Class this past weekend with my friends, and it was such a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets of Salem! I really appreciated that the class felt quiet and private -- it was great to have that calm space to create without a big crowd around. The project itself was a lot of fun, and I loved the creative atmosphere. My only small suggestion would be to mention ahead of time that certain leather options can't be stamped -- I ended up using paint pens instead, which still worked out fine! Overall, it was a unique and memorable experience -- especially when I had the whole class recite a spell over their books for good luck before we left. Definitely a magical memory to take home!

Broom making class

My mom and me took the broom making class. It was one of the most fun things to do in Salem MA. Would recommend if you have two hours to spare and you need some good energy.

This was such a great experience. Our instructor Jacey, kept us laughing the whole time. There were a lot if choices and ways to customize your broom. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

My husband surprised me with a broom making class for my birthday which is on Halloween. The class was mostly full but had a few extra seats available so the room wasn't too crowded. We were told my husband couldn't stay to watch even though there were chairs open and he would be out of the way like it's some secret. He wandered about and I selected the items to build my broom. I think the flow could be improved for how people select their various charms, flowers, straw, etc. I also really would have appreciated being able to mix my colored straw in with the yellow straw, but with the way the steps are laid out I didn't have that option. The instructor was nice, albeit I felt like he spoke to us as if we were kindergarteners. It felt a bit juvenile and condescending at times, but he was VERY thorough and everyone accomplished making brooms effectively. I'm really happy with how mine turned out, but I don't think they look as high end as the price suggests. It's not something I would do again, but it was a fun thing to do on my birthday.

Fantastic experience making brooms at the Witchery. Loved our host and there were so many options to pick from for decorating our creations. 10/10 experience!

My other fab broom!

This is a great place to bring visitors to Salem to pick up a broom making kit and instructions and bring home to do a great project with kids and/or friends. I have done this twice, once with family, once with friends and both times people loved it. I now have two beautiful brooms hanging in my kitchen.

Amazing experience!!! 10/10. Environment (check), atmosphere (check), GREAT staff (check), fun (check check). We had Laura and she was absolutely phenomenal. She really brought life to the experience (we did the book binding). And you also leave with such an AMAZING product. Well worth every penny!

It was a very nice experience. A hands-on workshop that tests your patience and creativity. The individuals working there, at least the ones that I interacted with were decent- not overbearing, which is a good thing. They provided a large amount of options and detailed instructions. It's worth trying.

If you are even considering making a broom while in Salem book your spot now. This was by far the best experience of our trip. The staff was so friendly and ready to help. The person leading the group was very informative and gave clear directions. I note that broom making takes a bit of muscle and hand dexterity so keep that in mind. But the staff will help if needed!!

We were allowed time to complete our broom with ease, and to add any trinkets or flowers to our creation.

It's upscale voodoo with a touch of new age hipster with Greek statues and a large room for formal seances On this visit to Salem and browsing the shops we stumbled upon this place and #1 son (Matt O. - Pittsburgh) and decided he needed to get a tarot card reading! He wasn't disappointed, because according to him, his reading was with David and was the best! He helped guide him on a path that he thought beneficial to go down, and he was very glad he went. It's to be noted that different psychics have different skillsets and strengths and offer to help you with individual needs. In addition to card readings, they do chakras, past life regressions, and more. But wait, this is a tourist kinda area so this is also a cool store for some of the less common items. I almost bought a really cool statue of the goddess Freya, but my honey said no, as well as some nice protection candles. Very unique and cool atmosphere with a neat vibe. (Do I sound really old here LOL) All the staff was quite nice as well. Note on psychics: I know the whole psychic thing is not for everyone, but Matt loves to get tarot readings and several of our presidents consulted with them over the years. The word "Psychic" is derived from the Greek word "psychikos" which means "of the mind or mental". The origin of Psychics though dates back to ancient times. And the earliest account of the use of Psychic powers was seen in the Bible. For example according to Book 1 Chapter Number 9 in the bible, the biblical character Samuel is asked to find donkeys for the future king Saul.  There are also examples in ancient Egypt where priests of Ra at Memphis acted as psychics in the guise of a seer. So it's not a new idea and psychics are cool for those that choose to seek their counsel. Bottom line: If you are so inclined I recommend coming here if you are ever in Salem!

I found the energy here a bit overwhelming and at times catering to tourists, which wasn't quite the experience I was seeking as someone who has a deep spiritual practice. My mom had a great tarot reading here with a witch close to her age and said it was a wonderful experience. I wasn't a part of that experience so I'm a bit limited in commentary there, but I'm thrilled she was happy. The reading was done in an very small booth-like setting behind a curtain right against the hustle and bustle of the store (if you're an empath or claustrophobic, be forewarned that this can be very overstimulating). This felt unusual to me since I'm used to tarot readers needing energetic space and room to focus. OMEN has a fabulous selection of books I could have looked at all day. I'd love to come back to this store sometime not in the fall and see if my experience feels different. I adored the tarot artwork in the back of the shop and the nice selection of tarot and oracle decks.

By all means go to Salem in person for a tarot reading BUT …read more.. You don't have to physically go to Salem to have divination with a real Salem witch. And Nick Dickinson is one of the witchiest of witches. And available for readings at The Cauldron Black. I have gone to many different readers, and of course everyone has their different styles, but Nick is my "go to" for divination when I need to cut the crap and hear what the cards have to say. This person has a really impressive background and deep relationship with the tarot and is a talented, masterful reader. My divinations with Nick have been spectacular- on point, clear, WILDLY accurate. You truly do not need to say a lot or give tons of context for your question - he does not seem to want a lot of exposition- so maybe go in knowing what question you want to ask and just let him do his thing. You can book online at The Cauldron Black's website (for VERY reasonable prices btw, especially considering the depth of knowledge and history they have as a reader, wow). He calls on time, no chitchat, keeps it super professional, neutral and boundaried. I am usually offered a choice of decks and he sends a photo of the spread so you can follow along. Also he keeps the reading to time, in a really skillful way. And of course he leaves space where you can ask questions. Kindof a sidebar, but if you have never considered a phone reading as an option: I have found that I really enjoy and appreciate (and honestly might actually prefer) getting a reading over the phone - I can be in my own space, sit at my altar etc. For me, I can be a little more distracted or ungrounded when I'm in public - when I get a phone reading I can just drop in and afterwards do some journaling and thinking and be quiet if I need to... and just kindof digest the divination, which I think helps me to integrate it. If you are looking for a talented, insightful, HIGHLY experienced reader I could not recommend Nick Dickinson more wholeheartedly.

There are so many witch/occult type stores in Salem, do yourself a favor and go to ANY other place…read morethan this one. I went there to get my son some gems, which he was really excited about. It seemed like a cool new place I could take him. The woman working there made the experience awful. She acted like she had never seen a toddler before in her life, and was hovering, cold and rude. One of the glass display cases had been left open, and my son was (under my direct supervision) looking through some of the rocks on display, when she rushed over and said to not touch anything without permission, and closed the case and locked it... no "can I help you"? or "any questions"?... just a frigid, angry vibe. I mentioned that the case had been left open by someone else (obviously her since it seemed to require a key), indicating that it was ok to browse. she didn't say a word in response. I had the distinct feeling she was watching us, and after a few minutes she came over to ask if I wanted her to "hold onto" the 4 rocks/gems my son had picked out, while we looked around... in a tone that suggested she was worried he would either do something nefarious with the gems, or we would steal them. Then when I was in the middle of making our purchase, my son was looking at this rock wind chime looking thing, being totally respectful and gentle. She took it right out of his hands. So If you like cold, uninviting shopkeepers that don't respect your children's personal space and snatch things out of their hands, by all means visit The Calderon Black!
