This is a 'pay what you will' event put on by a local theatre group, highlighting some of the works of Edgar Allen Poe at a historical New England home from 1665, but my review is for the home itself. Gedney House is one of several properties on the roster for Historic New England, and is being refurbished to bring it back to its former glory. MUCH more interesting than the 7 Gables property stealing the limelight nearby, this was a very nice walkthrough without the throngs of tourists packing the rest of Salem.

I'm ready! The kids are ready ! Are you sure you're ready? The scare is about to begin . At eat turn an eerie noise rings in my skull! The sounds are loud and unclear. One of the twins is holding onto me. I lead the way . All sorts of fog and spook at every moment and turn. We are going to survive to see the end of this. Finally we make it to the end . Ahhhh we can breathe . We survived the haunted house . Yay !

Count Orlok's Nightmare Gallery was on my list of places to check out while visiting Salem last…read moreweek. It is located on Essex Street and they have you wait in line outside of the museum. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for kids (ages 6-12). You can either buy your tickets while waiting in line using a QR code or at the counter once you go inside. They do not allow photos or recording while walking through the gallery - the staff even states that they are watching on the surveillance cameras for anyone pulling out their phones. We enjoyed walking through each section and reading about each horror character and the fun facts about the movies or TV shows they were from. I really liked that the characters actually looked like the people and not some knock-off wax museum. Some of my favorites were the wall of actor face molds and the slasher room. I also like that you can walk through each room and area at your own pace and I never once felt rushed by the other people or staff. They have a small gift shop with t-shirts and other items you can buy. You are allowed to take photos inside of the gift shop. This is a must if you are a horror fan!

Curious minds brought us to this interesting and cool museum. There was a nice gentleman that was working at the time, he helped us decide if this was something we would have a great time exploring. He wasn't wrong. It was an interesting experience to say the least. After we paid for our tickets, he explained that we can stroll thru there at our own paces. There is no time limit here. You can go through there fast or take your time to read, and take in the history of all the different torture apparatuses they had inside the museum. We find it fascinating how they used to use these devices to torture people back in the days. Glad we aren't living in those times. Can't imagine the suffering they used to go through. It was a very interesting visit. Glad we at least experience it once to learn the history and the stories behind each device. After you are done, you can head back up and check out their gifts shop. It was a great and interesting experience. If you happened to visit Salem and is curious about torture devices, definitely stop by and experience it for yourself.

I've been inside this theatre on three occasions, but that was the only time I've actually seen a performance in here, and it was remarkable and spectacular. I thought it was great when I realized they were renovating this space several years ago. As I entered the lobby, the box office was a line of windows in front of me, but I noticed folks checking tickets by the stairs to my right. Turn out everyone is funneled through the stairs even if our seats were the prime spots in the Orchestra section. First thing I noticed were the painted walls. They were cool, and a more modern touch than the elaborate engravings of many of the other theatres in the area. It also is a cozier theatre. But there were enough room between seats that I didn't have to stand just to allow other row-mates to pass by me. My seat neighbors told me that the balcony is terrible for hearing - I believe it since even from where I sat in the third row slightly off center, I had a little trouble hearing the actor furthest from me. Fix the sound system, and they would earn my 4th (fan) star easy. *** 9/2013 *** Attended Potted Potter - The Unauthorized Harry Experience, a Parody by Dan and Jeff - and I had a good time. Flashing my ticket got me to the appropriate stage, the seat was roomy enough, the stage close enough, the show entertaining enough. And the game of quidditch at the very end got the heart pumping.
