Count Orlok's Nightmare Gallery was on my list of places to check out while visiting Salem last week. It is located on Essex Street and they have you wait in line outside of the museum. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for kids (ages 6-12). You can either buy your tickets while waiting in line using a QR code or at the counter once you go inside. They do not allow photos or recording while walking through the gallery - the staff even states that they are watching on the surveillance cameras for anyone pulling out their phones. We enjoyed walking through each section and reading about each horror character and the fun facts about the movies or TV shows they were from. I really liked that the characters actually looked like the people and not some knock-off wax museum. Some of my favorites were the wall of actor face molds and the slasher room. I also like that you can walk through each room and area at your own pace and I never once felt rushed by the other people or staff. They have a small gift shop with t-shirts and other items you can buy. You are allowed to take photos inside of the gift shop. This is a must if you are a horror fan! read more

Count Orlok's is a wax museum based on monster/horror movies. I found this on Bring Fido and thought it would be awesome to bring our pup through here with us. We arrived at about 5pm and they closed at 6pm but we had plenty of time to enjoy. Give yourself about 30 minutes. They ask that you not take photos inside to not spoil the surprise for others. This is not scary and I think most won't have an issue walking through here. 5 stars for being dog friendly because how many indoor places like this can you bring your pet. 4 stars for being kind of short but the price is pretty fair so I'm not mad. read more

This is a really cool museum, especially if you're into horror/scary movies. They have really nice displays of wax figures, including Michael Myers, Jason, Chucky, Freddy Krueger, and many more. One of the good things about this museum is that they're always adding to it, so you'll always see something new if you decide to visit again. You aren't allowed to film inside the museum however, they welcome you to film and take photos once you're done inside the gift shop area, where you'll find a few wax figures and masks. This museum was worth the money and very inexpensive. The staff were all very welcoming and helped with any questions we had, even assisting us with directions to our next destination. An unexpected surprise! While not a particular fan of the horror genre there were so many nicely collated objects, models, masks and wax works of recognizable characters, from early Bram Stoker, Christopher Lee, all the at upto contemporary figures like the demagorgon of Stranger things fame. Count Orlok's Nightmare Gallery was, hands-down, the best gallery in Salem. No pictures or video inside, and there is a reason for that. Unbelievable statues, both modern and classic. The staff are really cool. Definitely, worth a visit. The pictures I took are from the store at the end of the gallery. The store has pretty awesome items to choose from. They even have a VHS shelf to buy old-school tapes of classic movies. I will return. read more

A Horror Fan's Dream Come True! As a massive Pet Sematary fan, visiting this place was an absolute dream. The character Pascow used to haunt my nightmares, so seeing a photo actually signed by the actor completely blew me away! That incredible piece of memorabilia is what first caught my attention. It was so cool to see Stephen King's work honored alongside such a huge variety of different horror characters all brought to life under one roof! read more

Let me start with the fact that I HATE horror films, but I had such a good time here! My partner is a huge horror movie lover, so I sucked it up and bought us tickets. I was afraid it would be nightmare inducing, but I ended up loving it! You walk though a curated world of horror and whimsy filled with life sized figures, statues, props, and sets. There are different sections of the gallery that house different horror genres from vampire to ghouls. Almost every attraction has a blurb that explains the film its from and something spooky that happened on the set. As someone who cannot handle the scary side of things, I was able to really enjoy my time here. Some of the figures (the life sized Pennywise to be exact) did make my heart jump, but its a really cool gallery that isn't meant to jump scare you. Its to appreciate horror cinema and learn a bit about it. No photos allowed, so I attached a photo from the gift shop. The figures/statues within the gallery are worlds more impressive than the one in the gift shop. read more

As a horror lover, this was a must-see experience! The figures/statues are so realistic and since we were in the museum on a dark, stormy night alone it actually was a little scary! You can tell people put a lot of love and hard work into these displays. It took us maybe 10 minutes to get through. I liked that the vault was showing old movies. And the photos with all the autographs is cool. We ended up getting a T-shirt, sticker and patch. Will definitely check out again! read more

Okay so this was my favorite experience in our trip to Salem. It just felt good. The price of admission was entirely reasonable for the experience that you got and still we able to spend some money in the gift shop. Like I think that places sometimes lose that thought when they start raising the price of their tickets and then you spent so much on the ticket you can't afford to buy something while you're there. But that's not this totally reasonable in price. The gentleman that was setting up out front with the signs and everything is the one that sold us on the experience and we booked the ticket right there they had lots of availability at that time but from what I understand but later in the day we're completely sold out. All of the figurines are really well done and eerily watch you with their eyes in a really creepy way. I love the original universal monsters those were some of my favorites as well as the giant ghostbuster I would give anything to have that slimer in my house as part of my Ghostbusters collection. The only negative that's I had with isn't really much of a negative at all is that you can't take any pictures in the exhibit, but I totally understand why. For those people who don't know count orlok is the old black and white dracula real name, but I made up an alternative story the count orlok was Vlad's brother and is just trying to get by in a modern world by running a wax museum. He's also gone super politically correct so he says things like " I want to suck your blood, with consent" and "look into my eyes... Respectfully" imagine a dracula that needs you to invite them in, but also asks for you to sign a consent form... That's hilarious. Anyway go to count orloks, if you only do entertainment activity-thing in town. This would be my pick. read more

A must for horror fans! This was definitely a -take it all in while you're here- experience. There is no photography within the exhibit, but plenty of opportunities in the gift shop/lobby area with some cool memorabilia and other props to snap some photos of. This place is a MUST for horror film fanatics. I really did not have high expectations going into this place and I wound up leaving amazed. Before entering they told us we can not take pictures inside so we can save the surprises for other people who wish to visit which I happily respected, but let me tell you, it was HARD because there were so many pieces I was straight fangirling over! It's a small museum but so much to see and the details put into some of the pieces in here were just mind blowing. I don't want to even go into detail because I don't want to ruin it for someone who may visit, but it was one of my favorite places in Salem. The two gentlemen working there were also super cool and were happy to answer different questions. They also said they change things around from time to time and add new things to keep it interesting for those who choose to return. They did allow us to take pictures in the gift shop which also had some pretty cool things to look at. I thought it was pretty dope they sell hard to find Goosebump books, VHS tapes and really cool masks. read more

I'd consider myself a horror movie fan, although I'd hardly say I'm a superfan or a film buff. I recognized about 80% of the characters in here--so I am somewhat of the audience for this. A few thoughts: * You can't take any photos. I don't know if I respect this, but I get it. It's basically to protect the experience so you don't just look up the photos online and pass up on the museum. I will say I found all the signs in the museum basically saying "we're watching you on camera to make sure you don't take photos on your phone" to be a little tedious. We get it, nannycam. * This is entirely a mannequin museum, but almost all of the mannequins/wax figures are extremely high quality and life-like. A lot of them are set up on raised platforms looming above you, so part of what makes this exciting is how unsettling the figures are. I did feel my pulse jump at a few moments. * It's a self-guided tour, and I'd say it's about a 10-15 minute experience, depending on how long you want to linger and stare at each mannequin (or read the placards near them). It's about half-a-dozen small rooms, more or less. * It was $15, but really it should have been no more than $10. This was not a $15 experience. * Apparently there is a tour with the owner, but for $68 (the price listed on their website), that's a hard pass for me. I do think some sort of guidance or context from the owner would have made this experience slightly more exciting. If you're a big horror movie fan or someone who likes to look at mannequins, props, or memorabilia, you'll probably love the experience. While I was impressed with the quality of the reproductions, it also felt like after two rooms I was like "okay I get it." Perhaps not for me, but I understand why this is a local favorite and why a lot of people recommended it. A solid 3.5 stars experience. read more

Had no idea what to expect, and I'm kind of a weenie when it comes to scary stuff, but this place is really cool! Nothing jumps at you, so if you're apprehensive about that (like I was)... fear not. It's a gallery in every sense of the word; you're walking through a really gorgeous art exhibit of horror films, and there's plenty to see. My review is solely based on the gift shop not the museum portion because I did not do it. I think this is one of the coolest gift shops in the whole town. If you are a true blue horror fan, you will not be disappointed coming here! so many awesome trinkets, collectibles clothing, and bags, etc! I always wind up walking out of the store spending about $200 on things I absolutely love! Someday I hope to work up enough courage to actually visit the museum portion because I hear it is really cool and good! But definitely check out this gift shop if you are in the area! read more

Count Orlok's is one of my favorite places to visit in Salem! If you're a horror fan, it should be a must on your visit. Orlok's is a wax museum, with GREAT figures. On my first visit I remember being in awe of the Carrie figure. Since that visit, they've continued to expand and add more incredibly detailed figures. I've been delighted to new things each time I've visited. No photos allowed, so the only one I can show is from the gift shop, but the gift shop is another great part of the experience! If you're in Salem and love horror films spanning the last 5 decades then you need to come to this museum. Something I loved is that they don't allow any photography, which really leaves the whole experience exciting and fun. I thoroughly enjoyed all the sculptures and facts about the movies I previously didn't know. The owner was so kind to answer any questions we had and even told us about the tour they do as well! The autograph wall is something out of this world, it took my boyfriend and I about 45 minutes because I was reading every little thing. I was so taken aback by the detail and love put into this exhibit. It's something any horror fanatic would love and a must see in Salem. read more

If you're a horror enthusiast, or just want to enjoy a kitschy experience, look no further. Photos are not allowed inside, so expect so just enjoy the moment. Only docking it one star because a couple of the replicas were visibly damaged due to naughty patrons. This is a self-guided tour through films with life-sized replicas of all the horror favorites. A couple of the figures gave me the creeps as they are so realistic. You can go as slow or fast as you'd like, and it took us about 30-45 minutes to get through. I didn't actually enter the gallery, but I wanted to share this tidbit. We bought tickets for the experience, but my 10-year old niece chickened out last minute. Sis and I were bummed, but we surely weren't going to go without her. I walked in to at least check out the gift shop. I was chatting with the staff and mentioned i had tickets but couldn't use them and they advised that I could still use them at a later time! They went over the guidelines and how long they'd be good for. This was so helpful and unexpected. I was very pleased at that service! read more

My wife Kathy and I just returned from Salem and this was one of our favorite stops. The wax figures were outstanding and the information about each film they represent was thorough but not so long a to mummify your eyeballs. We happened to arrive and do most of our tour with no one else (living?) around, which added to the creepy yet fun atmosphere. As a longtime horror fan, it was a very pleasant experience that covers quite a range of time periods and genres. As a mostly non-horror fan, Kathy also had a great time and was happy not to have any strange creatures besides myself follow her out. No photos are allowed in the museum itself, which I think is a good idea as to protect the mysteries and surprises hidden inside. read more

Cool spot showcasing horror film icons in the form of statues. Each display has a background description and various facts. There are a lot of autographed photos on a wall as well. Doesn't take very long to walk through, maybe 15-20 minutes tops. They don't allow photos so I had none to post with my review. Definitely fits the Salem niche. I think the other three star reviews do a good job reflecting my thoughts on this place. I enjoyed my time, but for $13 dollars, and the lack of space without feeling the need to move forward, you end up spending less time than you want. Id say the biggest highlight were the production notes on a number of films. The behind the scene stuff always fascinates me. The wax figures and replicas were fine, but the interior design and ambiance is lacking half the time. Im not going to bitch about the line as much as others, because I knew it was gonna get crowded ahead of time. Showing up at 10AM is your best bet, compared to trying to show up 6pm on a friday night. They have a fantastic gift shop for anyone wanting horror memorability. If you are a huge horror fan, this is a no brainer. If you are a family of six who's trying to pass the time, then Id say think carefully on what youre about to purchase. read more

This was an unbelievably cool experience. It's a wax gallery of various horror movie monsters and other memorabilia. There is no photography allowed which is understandable because you need to see it for yourself. The various plaques had really cool trivia of all the different movies that are featured. The owner has a collection of signed photos on the wall, most of which were signed to him. There is also a tour at night that takes you to the basement section with even more statues. I've been to Salem four other times before this weekend, but this time I finally went to Count Orlok's! We had tickets for 10am, and there was no wait when we arrived. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. It was so cool to see these horror movie characters up close. The glass eyes totally sealed the deal for most of them -- they looked real! I so wish we were allowed to take pictures. We aren't sure of the reasoning behind that -- copyright? They have a lot of horror movie tshirts in their gift shop, and I regret not getting one. As a huge horror fan I was most excited about visiting here when my husband and I first visited Salem 6 months ago and we were not disappointed. Our first stop a few weeks ago when we were back in town was Count Orlok's again and I loved it all over again. Both times had a great experience inside with all the awesome figures and memorabilia and lots of info and fun facts to read alongside the exhibits. I didn't get my money's worth, but there was a little boy a little ways ahead of me, and it sure sounded like he was having the time of his life. As someone who likes the old, but not the new, I figured it would be good to join. I was very correct. This place has wonderful figures, and great descriptions to go alongside them.
