New Repertory Theatre - New Rep 5/2011

I love regional theater and New Rep is one of the best. I have been to a few of New Rep's…read moreproductions (most recently "1776") and have always enjoyed them. There is really not a bad seat in the house and I have sat everywhere here (my kid does community theater and uses this space as well). The seats are comfy too. It is a small theater but seats about 300+ but have also seen a show in the tiny black block downstairs (another space I love and very intimate). The location cannot be beat with tons of parking and a few dining options in various price ranges for pre- or post-dining and/or drinking. The Mosesian space is lovely and the New Rep is a wonderful theater experience without having to trek into the city.

I have only been to 1 show here, but will definitely go back. Driving from the Worcester area, I…read moredidn't know what to expect at the theater. The Mosesian theater seems very small & intimate, but holds nearly 350 people. The theater was very clean & modern, like a modern movie theater, with a low stage. Everything still seemes new. The seats were roomy & comfortable, with ample leg room. The seats are stadium style, and at a pretty good incline, so no tall people can block your view. Plus you are looking down at the stage. The first row of seats is close to eye level with the performers, as the stage is about 12-18 inches off the ground. Great pics of the inside seating of the theater can be found here: http://www.actorsequity.org/newsmedia/news2006/Mar1.NewRepTheatre.asp There is plenty of free parking in a covered garage adjacent to the building. I have not been to the Black Box theater underneath the Mosesian (holding about 90 people), but am anxious to try it. I saw Amadeus in April 2013 & it was fantastic. Can't wait for their upcoming schedule.

The high ceilings make it seem huge. The stage is large and spacious too. They had this red billowing curtain covering for the opening acts before the main band. Sound was great. Also the lighting effects for the different songs was good. We were quite close to the stage so had a great view. Great show! Restrooms are in the back and even though at the end of the show the women's had a long line but it moved fast. There are 17 stalls so that definitely helps move the line. There is a merch counter and a bar. The bar closed at the end of the show, so if you're looking for drinks or water make sure to get them during the show. Overall we had a great time!

Really small selection of seltzers/beers, and when my friend ordered a margarita, they gave her just tequila and orange juice. One of the security guards outside was rude and said "Do you even know your right from your left?" when she directing the line on where to go for bags vs no bags, when in reality i just didn't hear what she was saying because there was a long, loud line of people.

The group learned how to walk, shimmy, trace, and bump according to our newly acquired personas and ended up in tassel-filled dance party. Reasonable private lesson rate and very professional. I'd been wanting to try burlesque for a while, and Rogue offers the Sassy, Classy and Brassy burlesque 101 class at Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) several times a year. They made what could have been an uncomfortable experience baring myself (literally) to strangers fun, sexy, and positive. These ladies are professional, sassy, supportive, and funny to boot! After my class, I became more involved in the burlesque scene and have helped out at several shows since then. I've even had the chance to compete in two of Rogue's Lucky 13 amateur shows, which are usually held every 3 months or so. Contestants have the chance to workshop their routine, no matter what stage of progress, to two Roguers for feedback. And let me tell you, if you're not used to performing, it's HARD. Especially when removal of clothing is involved! But these ladies are so supportive, and offer really encouraging, thoughtful, and useful feedback. You can tell the troupe puts a lot of love, sweat, tears, and sometimes (fake) blood into their work. I also love the diversity within Rogue; troupe members really embody a lot of different characters and archetypes, and manage to come up with creatively sexy routines that sometimes challenge us, as an audience, to think outside the box, usually make us laugh, and always make our hearts pound. I'm so proud to say I'm a (small) part of it.
