Well, I saw the Blue Man Group in December of 1999 as part of a company holiday celebration in Boston's Theatre District. Sorry it took me so long to Yelp them! I think they started in Las Vegas and then opened branches/troupes in various cities, Boston being one of them. Performance artists who did some crazy tricks, played unconventional PVC tube type instruments to rhythmic tribal beats, and had the uncanny habit of making audience members be a part of the show and feel nervous. The band was above the stage, oddly, on a platform above where the tricks and performance artists were. The music was OK, but after hearing two or three songs you realize the music all sounds pretty much the same. The band was a music-only/non-vocal four piece band: Chapman Stick, Bass, Keyboards, and Drums. The show was OK. The company bought us the ticket, after we had lunch in Central Square, Cambridge, and we all met up at Park Street Station and walked over to some theater. I never would have gone on my own accord, but it was a company event. If you've seen it once there is no reason to see it twice, good but not that captivating. Thing is, that really struck me as odd and trashy... the tickets were not cheap, in fact back then it was $55.00. But as we all exited, two of the band members were at the exit doors with these big buckets looking for donations/tips. I've never seen that before. read more

Blue Man Group has been performing at the Charles Playhouse since 1995! This is the second time I've had the pleasure of seeing Blue Man Group. The first time was over 20 years ago. They still had a lot of the same acts that still stand and bring lots of laughs as well as new and hilarious ones. This time I was sitting in the fourth row, pancho section which was perfectly close enough to the stage, but not too close where I was cranking my neck. I don't wanna spoil any thing from the show, but here are some helpful tips: - if you can, get middle section poncho seats - if you're in the poncho section, dress light! it gets hot under there - the music is amazing and loud! (They provide ear protection by request). - they also provide masks - boosters available for the littles - have a special occasion? You can contact them 48 hours before the show to have a special LED message displayed. - post show meet & greet for additional $$ - bathrooms are super clean as well as the waiting area - merch available - Bar with small snacks and lots of seating in the waiting area Bring the whole family it's very kid friendly and they will have an awesome time ! This Boston show was a disappointment and a far cry from the artistic, creative and funny show that the Blue Man Group used to be many years ago. It was dominated by the loud drumming and if it had not been this loud I would have fallen asleep. And: do NOT take your kid, the noise is too much for the head and the ears of anyone younger than 14. read more

I think I first heard about the Blue Man Group when I was a young teen. We were in Las Vegas, and I think we decided to see a show by Circ Du Soleil instead. My dad was the one who got to make the decision, but I also think at the time the Blue Man Group was more expensive which was probably one of the motivating factors. We were given free tickets by the New England USO which was awesome, and we made a date night of it by making a dinner reservation at Ostra down the street. We also took advantage of the discount rate for the parking garage and made that parking reservation online for like $10. When we arrived, there was a waiting line outside for people to get wanded and get bags checked. I thought it was interesting there was a guy in the line ahead of us who freaked out because he either had drugs or a weapon with him and made a big stink that he was going to be searched before he and his party could go in. Humans. Once inside, we made our way upstairs and to our seats. We are giants, and found the seats to be extremely squished and uncomfortable. The others next to us were so close, we all got super warm just by simple proximity. The show was inventive and unique. We found it very clever, and enjoyed it overall. I did feel like some of it was a bit bland and dragged out, but for sure I'm glad that we didn't sit in the "poncho section" where they literally turned the hose on them. It did feel like there was a mix of adult and juvenile humor, and it was very loud. The facility itself was nothing special, and the bathrooms were direly small for how many people it serves. The addition of multiple bars was smart, but I didn't see really that many people drinking at this particular show. I'm not sure that I would have paid full price for this show, but for the free tickets, it was a worthwhile experience. It might be that it has been playing for so long, it is a little overplayed. Great show really enjoyed watching them perform and the interaction with the audience

The Charles Playhouse may not be the cutting edge, chic theater that everyone is looking for, but it houses one of the most entertaining shows I've seen in quite some time. The Charles Playhouse is one of the older theaters but is clean, has no "distinct smell" like some of the smaller and other theaters throughout the city, and also offers VERY reasonable beverages compared to what we are used to paying at Boston venues. We had never seen BMG and thus had no idea what to expect, but we had gotten some gift cards that we decided to use to go catch a show. I can say that despite having no idea what was about to happen or researching what to expect, we were blown away by the show. To be fair, the auditorium is small but that is the intention. It also makes sense when you realize what is about to take place that there was not a huge amount of money poured into fancy seats or decorations from the auditorium. The BMG is a rotational themed show, which means if you go six months from when I was there we will likely have seen different shows. There are common themes that occur throughout the show(s) but after seeing the show and researching they change parts of the show on a pretty frequent basis. From water to paint to marshmallows to toilet paper you can expect to be "involved" in the show at various points and everyone will get a chance to be involved with a few 'LUCKY' individuals actually becoming part of the act. I don't want to spoil anything, but it was all in good fun and a few people even got some souvenirs to take with them!!! The 90 minutes flew by in a flash and I couldn't believe what seemed like half-an-hour was actually a fully coordinated show. If you have not seen the BMG before and love interactive and entertaining performances this should not be missed. I know we will be going back in a little bit once we give the show a chance to change over. However, this was one of the best gifts I've received since we've moved to Boston. read more

We purchased the Boston Go pass and we got the pass with one premium ticket so we decided to use it for the Blue Man Group. Normally we would want to be in the (get wet) section but we were cold and had a full day ahead and we weren't planning on going back to the hotel until much later. They do provide ponchos for those who want the full experience. The Go pass is partial view tickets (on the sides of the theater) but I think you could still have a good view and a good show. If you don't have the Go pass you can get seating in the main section. Just be aware the front section is the poncho section and the back is the safe zone. It was still interactive and it was so much fun. The Blue Man Group was so entertaining and 90 minutes flew by. I hear they change the show periodically so I would definitely go see them again to see what else they come up with. They were so much fun to watch. Even my 10 year old son loved it, so great for kids too. He asked to go back the next day. LOL. That's how I know he really enjoyed himself. Definitely recommend it. read more

My kids have been to dozens of shows and have enjoyed them all. However, this show was by far their favorite, and they even watched the dad be pulled onto the stage. They kept the audience engaged by involving audience members throughout the show. They also upgraded our seats to front-row seats, which were pretty cool for the kids' enjoyment. The ponchos provided were needed as we were splashed several times. The tone was family friendly and enjoyed by ages 6-47. We would recommend this show for family fun. So here I am, writing a review for something I did years ago...weird. Sorry peeps. Anyway, I took my husband (at the time, he was my boyfriend) to see this show after I took him to a very expensive dinner in Boston's Little Italy (the North End) and we loved it! We got great seats in the house and I don't think you can get a bad seat since it's almost like stadium seating. I had my husband's name on the marquee to shout him out for his birthday and of course, they teased him and said "Happy 7th Birthday, to Keith W" haha. The show was phenomenal and you're on the edge of your seat the entire time! The beats were great and it was hilarious as well as creative! I would recommend seeing it more than once and if you're up in the front row, make sure you tie your poncho on tightly, you wouldn't want paint on your clothes, it takes forever to scrub it off. In the end, I love how the toiley paper started unraveling and we're just pulling on it and by the end of the show, there's tons and tons of toilet paper in the stadium, it was a great laugh. I recall seeing Blue Man Group when I was very young but very vaguely. So when we decided to purchase tickets for the show I had no idea what to expect but I was excited! We were seated on the left hand side of the stage about 4 rows up. Not very far at all. However the problem is that when seated in these seats half of the stage is blocked off by the upper level. I can't imagine if we had been seated further up. We literally had to bend down and forward to see most of the show. Super frustrating!! I feel like if you are paying for a ticket, no matter the price you should at least have a full view of the stage. I don't mind being further back but when there is a full object obstructing my view is when it becomes an issue. The show itself is very quirky and interesting. Not my cup of tea but I do understand it's a classic and so take it with a grain of salt. Personally I wouldn't recommend seeing it at this location specifically because of the layout. read more

Total disappointment. I saw this group in Chicago about 10 years ago and it was excellent. The Boston theater was small, the rain jackets were a waste of time, there was too much wasted time wondering in the audience and not enough of the drum and paint splatter. It was really geared down for children, and it actually reminded me of a children's TV program. $200 down the drain! read more

I attended with a few friends from grad school and it was so fun! I was surprised that we weren't allowed to take photos. We were in the front row so the poncho was a necessity! Paint & banana goop ended up on us throughout the show. The performance was good but a bit outdated in my opinion. The drumming parts were great but the huge iPhone parts were odd. I loved the energy of the three performers. The best part is when they stare at each other and you know they want to die laughing but they can't. The show is very family oriented and it's a great place to bring kids. I hope they add new acts/ change it up in the future. A ton of reviews sounded like the EXACT same show.... read more

I came with my friend that was visiting Boston and we got tickets near Quincy Market. The tickets there are cheaper because they give you the corner seats on the corner section. They say there are blind spots and you won't be able to see a tiny portion of the show. However, once we got seated at the theater and no one was seated in the middle section, we moved!!! I expected much better. Given the hysteria, my personal expectations were very high. It was boring to me, and I could not understand why people are fans of spitting food and other disgusting stuff. To make it worse, I was sitting in a row in front of a hysterical fan (a man with a mindset of a child), who was constantly shouting, laughing, and standing and pushing the seat, in order to be hit by the spitting food and to grab the flying tissue paper. read more

Went to the show with my girlfriend for date night. She had never been before and I had been probably about 15 years ago in high school, so I knew the gist but did not remember everything. We were sitting in section stage left in the second to last row. The view was partially blocked by the balcony and a post so for several routines, especially those on the cell phone screens, we had to crane to see. If you get tickets, be sure to try to get in the middle section. Beware though, you will be splashed (they provide a poncho though). The routines were very enjoyable. The guy who caught like 20 marshmallows in his mouth was very impressive- I can barely catch 1, let alone 20 consecutively...). Cool music with the PVC piping and the drums. Loved the audience interaction. Overall, a very enjoyable experience. I would like to go to another show in another city, to see how different it is. Definitely recommend- whether you're a Bostonian looking for a local activity to do, do a tourist looking for something fun to kill a few hours. Thank you! SFH read more

Yes, I know I'm ten years late to the party, but holy flying heck was this show fantastic. It is so, so hard for performers to play the same show night after night, but the Blue Men in Blue Man Group kept the energy high, the beats crisp, and the audience fully immersed. I spent a solid 90 minutes smiling like Nelson Muntz at an Andy Williams concert. It was terrifying. My face was frozen in a goofy widemouthed grin. On the rare occasion I was able to pull my gaze away from the densely packed set, I saw everyone else in the house wearing the same smile. I cannot recommend Blue Man Group enough. I saw this show when it first became big in Vegas and the production there was amazing. This is a much smaller venue and the show has developed some new content since then. The smart phone gimmick didn't do much to add anything to the show - they should have left that out - or found a different way to use it - I thought. The good: This show is great for kids and people who act like kids. There are lots of silly jokes, physical comedy and audience involvement. It's pretty much performance art meets comedy meets music concert. The finale is super fun. The bad: (Mostly Venue Related) The venue is too small for a show like this. They want people up and moving around - dancing at one point - and it's impossible - you are practically on top of each other. Also, some of the skits with the smart phones - the people in the side balconies can see the performer getting ready behind the phone - so it ruins the joke for them. This show was alarmingly terrible. It felt something like a cult, with a joke that everyone was in on but us. I felt very unsafe, as the way they interacted with the audience was invasive and uncomfortable. Furthermore, there was a large amount of chewed up food that was then spit into the crowd at various times. Im not clear how this would ever be enjoyable or entertaining... it was very gross. If you're trying to see a middle aged bald man fit an entire bag of full sized marshmallows down his throat, and then spit it back out and present it to the audience, this is your show. read more

I purchased tickets for the Saturday January 27, 2018 matinee with a face value of $62.75 from Stub Hub. It was bad enough that Stub Hub marked the tickets up by 86% for a total of $485.20, the tickets were OBSTRUCTED VIEW!!!! There was no notification of the obstructed view when I made the purchase. The Charles Playhouse in Boston was complicit in this rip off - No notice. The obstruction was of the upper stage where the show opens with the actors playing the drums. The obstruction is the overhang of the balcony above. Unacceptable! $485.20!!!! This put a real damper in the enjoyment factor of the show. Beware! For Sub Hub and the theater it's business with no care for the customer. I will never buy from Stub Hub again and will most likely never return to the Charles Playhouse. First I saw one blue man in a Jimmy Fallon show in a section called "phone booth" .. I saw this vibrant blue man in a sticky-shiny sort of painting allover his head and in his hands and gets to the phone booth with Hugh Jackman and I was waiting for him to speak! But he wasn't talking at all but gaze with his human looking big eyes. From that moment I was very curious about this blue man and found out there's a performance group called Blueman group!And they are performing in Charles Playhouse in Boston! So we chose 31st of December (we spent the new year's eve in Boston) 8pm show as to entertain ourselves and also to start the new year and this was as a treat from my husband! So once we were inside the theater was small and we were in the balcony and I liked the small size of the theater because it keeps the attention in small area and very concentrated towards the show. Show was very engaging and it seemed we are being dragged to the blue man's world and spending a half and hour in it... First it was the drums,then came the Marshmellows eating (I wonder how could one can hold so much Marshmellows in his mouth!!!)graahhhh it was yucky and funny in both ways!!! After that then came the GIPad/huge smart phone structures and some fun in it! Drumming was very loud and is really bringing ourselves into it... So thrilling. Poncho section gets painted with their interactive paints,cereal eating in a very funny way!!! They selected two random people from the audience and did some fun with them too!! One was a woman and the three blueman were sharing a table with them eating a snack hilariously . My two year old son was given a pair of headphones to put up because the show was loud . But can you believe he almost stood out to see the blue man group!!! It was wonderful experience for him... The small stage was very interactive the table folds down under and in another section a set of complex pipes come and they played happy holidays,and some parts from famous holiday music... Finally they came to the balcony too! With toilet paper tissues being dragged from the above to the below and to the stage it was a one hell of a show! Very loud and noisy and yet you'll be never disappointed but end up thinking going back to another blueman show someday!! And finally they come down to take photos!! How cool is that!!! I love this show and felt so lucky to watch them!!! Thanks Blueman group for making my world a lil blue and awesome!! Ps:A thing I was dissatisfied about the show is their website didn't show under 3 or 2 years olds are free or the ticket price wasn't shown. I was with my husband,my two years old son,my 7 months old baby girl. So my husband with my 7 months stayed in the lobby and I went with my son to watch the show with a little disappointment... I went here with Artem F. and we had a great time. There is a live band above the stage and nice bright lights. The theatre is small so the "Blue Men" are able to approach people in the audience and pull them up on stage. I avoided eye contact with them even when they stood right next to me and stared me down. They like audience participation and if you are able to inform them of a birthday they will have the entire audience tell them happy birthday. I liked this place, we sat in the Orchestra Section C, but any seat is a good seat even on the sides. Tip: DO NOT COME IN LATE!!!! They will stop the show, put the bright lights on you and sing to you about being late. It's all in good fun, but if you are embarrassed easily, arrive on time. So much fun! This is one of those things that you must do once in your life. We took the kids... ages 13 and 9. The giggles, laughter and joy that came from these two were well worth the price of the tickets. Pro tip #1 - email the theater in advance and get a fun message up on the pre-show led board. Pro tip #2 - go to the lounge at the theater before the show and after... before for a pre show drink and after to meet the Blue Men and take pictures. Was it silly, weird and messy? Absolutely yes, but a highly enjoyable show for all ages. Be ware of the strobe lights and whatever you do... don't be late! Lots of humorous and unexpected audience participation and surprises, definitely my daughter's favorite parts! It is a small theater so most every seat is a good one. read more

What a truly magical experience. This is the third time I have seen BMG, the first time over 10 years ago in Chicago, when it was the "next new thing" and I remember then being amazed by their combination of musical ingenuity and mime-esque fun. The second time was when they were doing the "How to be a rockstar" tour - which was a bit of a letdown, to be honest. Fast forward to Boston and while the core of the original recipe has not changed from Chicago, they have updated their material to include, amongst other things, a trio of giant iPhones. Be prepared for audience participation (don't look them in the eye!) The finale is still a lot of fun, and I wouldn't want their toilet roll bill! The big bouncing balls is a new (?) addition and very entertaining. It was a shame to see the theater not full, because everyone should see this show at least once. So I started thinking about ways to keep the show fresh and talked-about, and I thought about Hair, the musical which is still going strong from 1968 which I saw last month. So I decided that The Blue Man Group also needs a nude scene, only blue :) Imagine the crowds lining up for that! read more

I was thoroughly creeped out several times. Perfect. The show is very entertaining and engaging from start to finish. I'm not the kind of person to get very engaged during shows, for example, it's not really my scene to clap along with the audience or tie a paper streamer around my melon. However, it was advised that if you don't join the masses you'll attract attention and the Blue Men will single you out. So clearly, I had to participate. From the instrumental displays to the comedic performance by these silent blue men, I was smiling the whole time. The whole show has a "cool" factor where almost everything makes you think, "Wow. That was cool." These guys are so funny - and without even speaking a word. Their looks, gestures, and overall presentation is 100 percent hilarious. And the way they engage the audience is perfect. I felt so bad for the people who got singled out in the audience, I would have been HORRIFIED. But I was still horrified whenever the men came into the audience. THEY ARE SO CREEPY. The way they just linger about you and look around, I felt like spiders were crawling all over my body or something. I just wanted to end it. And by 'it" I mean my life. But I wouldn't change a thing - it was great. The end of the show is the best - all I have to say is paper towels. Oh, and don't show up late. You'll know what I'm talking about if you see the show. Unless you're an attention whore and like being made a fool, then show up late. read more

Sorry but this is a show for kids... If you are not a child I don't see how you can find this entertaining... They pretty much destroyed the stage eating Twinkies and Cap'n Crunch... And as an adult all I can think about was who the hell is going to clean that mess LOL... After a while the noise of the drums was getting to me... The music and guitars sounded like something from nickelodeon... And just annoying LOL... I would think for the price of these tickets you would get better... The show I went to last weekend was a mixed bag. There were some highlights, but there were also many times in the show I felt the performance was being dragged on for the sake of increasing the length of the show due to a lack of real content. I was here a few years ago and enjoyed that performance much more than this.
