Well, I should have been tipped off when I noticed the check in for the motel was inside the diner. The lady at the front was friendly enough but she was checking someone in as she took my money for dinner. Where to start... The place only had 4 people eating so I figured service would be fast and friendly. It was fast enough but the guy cooking/took our order/seated us was far from friendly. Chili cheeseburger w/fries. The fries were fine but that's all that was. One hamburger patty on the bottom half of the bun. No top half. Covered in what they called chili. It had beans so it wasn't chili. No flavor at all. Let's definitely not call this guy a chef. Not even a cook. I'll call him "Microwave Man" because that's all he did. Someone orders chili dogs. I watched as he put 2 dogs in the microwave and zap them. After he put the "chili" on my burger, he threw a little shredded cheese on top and zapped it too. Someone else had ordered a side of mixed veg. I watched as he put a baggie with veggies into the microwave and "cooked" them. Why he was wearing gloves I don't know. He not only touched food with them, he touched everything else as well. You'd be better off going to the store and getting bologna and white bread. We ordered the "Bacon Lover's Cheeseburger" and the "Triple-Decker Club" and I have to say it was delicious! The seating is right next to an open kitchen so we could watch the chef cook our food the whole time. He wore gloves and kept everything super clean. The presentation was nice as well. I randomly picked this place as somewhere to stop to have lunch as we were driving by Rawlins. My wife and I feel we made a good choice in this place. Yes, it's big selling point is that it is retro. Takes you back to the old style diners when you were growing up. Which is cool, I think so mainly cause we didn't have diners like this where I grew up. The food was good. The burgers are done right, cooked on a grill, not a flat top. The fries were crispy to the bite, but still tender on the inside. I liked the triple decker club. Dana, our waitress, won my heart when I ordered a cherry coke and she filled the bottom of the glass with cherries. I'm not talking two or three, there was enough there that my wife and I ate about five or six each. Loved that touch. She could do no wrong after that, and she didn't. Classic breakfast at a classic diner! Rawlins was our Saturday overnight stop on the journey home to Arkansas. We had Sunday breakfast here which was very good. Typical diner which perfectly fit our need. Plenty of locals having breakfast, I believe we were the only 'tourist' which added to the pleasant experience. Friendly and prompt service. This is one of the most unique diners we've found in our travels. It looks like a railroad car diner and the food is good old fashioned home cooking. They make their own giant cinnamon rolls and you won't want to pass them by. If you have the opportunity to watch the young cook you'll have a real show. This fella is outstanding as he handles all the short order cooking orders. The staff here is friendly and efficient and we highly recommend a stop here. They're open 24 hours as well!! read more

This review is for the GM/ owner who spent the whole time we were there berating her employees who were both pleasant and working hard. There were mean signs for her employees that we could read from our table signed "Hitler" and "your step mom" telling employees not to use too many latex gloves and to "use come common sense and fill up the syrup bins". I dunno, seems pretty weird to word these this way and to treat your staff with so little respect right in front of customers. The worst place ever! My fried mushrooms came to the table frozen solid. I spit it back into the basket and let the waitress know. She seemed annoyed I was complaining.
