Steve and his wife Eden run a great little restaurant here in Saratoga. Food is excellent as well as the atmosphere. Amazing meal and you get treated like family

The place was small and quaint and I really didn't think we were going to be able to be seated for dinner. All of the tables were taken, besides the table we were able to get. The menu was pretty straightforward with the choices that they offer. For our table we had two orders of spaghetti and meatballs, a salami panini, a meatball sandwich, and a caprese salad that was big enough to share. All of the food was made to order and they all came out hot. The food was all really good, and the caprese was a hit with us. We shared tiramisu that was also delicious. Being that the dessert was so good, I ordered the chocolate banana cake to go and some cheesecake. Outside of having good food, the owners were very friendly, and they personally asked everyone if they were satisfied with their meals. This is a place you come for a sit down meal where you can talk with friends and family and enjoy the chill vibe. I will be coming back to the grumpy Italian for sure.

If you find yourself driving through the small town of Saratoga you have GOT to check out The Grumpy Italian. This little spot is absolutely perfect for a quick bite to eat, a hang out spot or even a casual date night. The decor is clean, rustic and just the right amount of Italian charm. I loved the mosaic tile tables, Jenga and a deck of cards at every table, an oversized panoramic of the Brooklyn Bridge and family photos hung with pride. The Grumpy Italian reminds me of Luke's from Gilmore Girls where all the locals come for good food, community and don't forget the prominent 'no cell phone' sign - rather The Grumpy Italian does not offer wi-fi and strongly encourages patrons to 'talk to each other'. The food: the pizza was fantastic, perfectly wood fired without all the burnt black bits that normally accompany wood fired pizza. Check it out - you won't regret it.

But I do enjoy coming here for lunch. I usually go to the bar section of the place in which they have their own craft beer. The lunches are good and have hearty portions. And often my visits can have an exhaustive nature to them so escaping to this bar which is fairly quiet during the day for a pint is very nice. Getting a craft beer pint reminds me of where I live now where defaulted beer that everyone associates with beer drinking isn't the norm. It's been a while since I have had an evening meal here but I recently have had their breakfast buffet which is very nice. The food is nice and fresh and flavorful! Last year my father passed away and we did a private catering event in the dining room which was very nice. They got us in on very short notice and the event went quite smoothly. The organizer was extremely helpful and organized and laid out all the options for the event we were needing to do after the funeral. So that went quite smoothly. I am not sure when my next visit back will be but if it's a trip of a recreational and casual nature I will definitely stop by the bar for a pint of beer!

We came in about 6pm, (no reservation we took our chances) and was seated right away. I was impressed by the ceiling chandeliers, and the cozy atmosphere. The room we were in accommodate two tables, we sat in one by a window. The same crystal chandelier matched in every room and hallway. The velvet drapes with the hallway bench by the stairs. The rooms were small, you could hear them talking, word by word, if you keep quiet because of the echo. I love the fact, it's a Victorian home, but the toilet didn't flush (when I got there and when I used it). The room was comfortable, being 79 degrees outside. I ordered Seafood Fettuccine, and salad. Hubby ordered NY Steak & Lobster. The steak was 10oz. and it came with salad mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were delicious, best mashed he ever had. The steak was pretty good when eaten dipped in butter sauce (he said). My Fettuccine was very hot. As it cools down it start to taste 'runny' but good. I'm taking 3/4th for another meal. The crab was shredded, equals to one crab leg. I've eaten better Seafood (shrimp & shredded crab) Fettuccine in the past. We waited a long time for our check! I'm glad we're just traveling, I don't think we'll be coming back.

The coffee drinks we ordered were outstanding. My 16 oz Latte was rich and smooth. Delicious . My son's Americano was made with added cream. So refreshing to not be told "the cream is over there you can add it yourself ". We both ordered wraps which were served hot and fresh. There were plenty of tables and we chose one next to the fireplace. The cafe is decorated with care and held so much character. A mix of 80/90s Music was playing in the background. I can see why I saw a few customers making themselves at home with their books and computers. Appeared to be camped out for a while . They had a self service water station with extra napkins and coffee condiments. Newspapers and reading material were in an old fashion holder near the fireplace. This is the perfect place to decompress and relax. We met a doggy too Owners told us their dog walks them there every day to get his treat. This pup was just beaming. Water dish out front for their 4 legged friends. Noticed several customers picking up to go orders so if you're on the run you can order in advance. Hope to return again I pretty much know my son will be going back often. Highly recommend.

Online said that it would be ready in 30-35 minutes, so we went to a different part of town to look around. I got the text that the pizza was ready about 15-20 minute early. Even though we were on the other side of town, we were fine with that because surely our pizzas were in a warmer, and drinks in the fridge. They were not. The pizza was lukewarm. When we walked in, they were BLASTING music, but apparently they had closed early and were cleaning, so they weren't expecting anybody. Even though our order was waiting for us? The music volume was definitely off putting, but who doesn't like music when they're cleaning. We walked in and a girl with dirty blonde hair greeted us by saying "uhhh, we're closed??" (Google and yelp AND your online order system show differently). I let her know we had an order to pick up and she asked the name in a similar tone, which genuinely made me stutter because I could not understand why this girl was being so incredibly rude. We were on a road trip, so the facilities were desperately needed, my boyfriend asked if we could use the bathroom, and she looked at him as if he asked if he could kick her puppy. And then sneered and snidely said "no", because obviously that was the most ridiculous question. We ended up having to go to Safeway (that was disgusting, do not recommend). She then slapped down my reciept on the counter for me to sign, heavily set down our drinks next to it, and when I was done signing, she again slammed her hand down on the receipt and yanked it off the counter. We ended up dumping out the mocktails because they looked and tasted disgusting, maybe becasue they were watered down by ice while they waited on the counter for us. Or maybe it was the wilted and brown mint. Those were $6 each. My boyfriend and I were sound boarding off each other for a while asking what we did to deserve such incredibly rude and hostile behavior, the only thing we came up with is that they forgot to close the online ordering system and that's somehow our fault? Or maybe she was just having an incredibly bad day? We wish we had asked if we had done anything wrong to upset her, but we were both too dumbfounded to process what was happening until after we left. The food was bad. We were given multiple inedible burnt pieces of garlic bread with our burrata. Also, the 10" pizza was an oval, not a circle, so you definitely don't get 78.54" of pizza like you would if it was a circle. At best, it was misleading, at worst it was deceitful - keep that in mind while considering prices. Some of the bread was undercooked, and we had stomach aches all night. All for $80. I contacted the restaurant and spoke to the manager, she was very nice and receptive and let me know that they did try to call when our order was ready. She gave me the email of someone that I could speak to about a refund. It's been more than a week and I have not heard back.

Maybe the draw here is the drinks, I wouldn't know. We started off with the pepper jack cheese curds, which were actually pretty tasty, but it's hard to mess up cheese curds so not too many kudos there. Our entrees were extremely disappointing. The burger we got was dry, and looked like it had been nuked in a microwave. Frankly, Freddys burgers look more appetizing than the one we received. The sweet potato fries looked freshly unfrozen and sad. I got the crispy Mac and cheese with the brisket option. Brisket was fatty and dry, and the Mac and cheese was such a small portion, the 9 pieces of brisket they gave me made my plate look small. For Mac and cheese, it was alright. I've made better with $12 at home, but the brisket was extremely disappointing for the markup they charged. I almost forgot to mention, there was only about 12-13 people here, with 1/4 of those being individuals sitting at the bar. It took us close to 40 minutes to get our food! Absolute insanity since there was almost nobody here. Better yet, the food arrived lukewarm! Service was fine. Ambience was nice, the actual building itself was nice to sit in, but the food was so sad and overpriced, I'll probably never set foot in here again. I can get better Mac and cheese in the Walmart fresh food section and a better burger at Freddy's 10 minutes down the road.
