Inside 1950s diner.

Excellent 50s diner with food to match. Large portions of food at a very reasonable price. Fresh made, no pre-packaged tiny flavorless breakfast. Food was served very hot on warm plates. Staff was very friendly.

Dog in restaurant kept shaking and getting food off owners table

Worst experience ever! Stopped at Pennys Diner in North Platte, Nebraska for an early dinner. It had good reviews and looked cute on the website. This cute....rather large....(not trained) dog came in and sat at the booth next to us. Only one guy taking orders, making change, cooking the food and serving .. all without washing his hands in between! (Didn't notice until he started making ours) We both ordered club sandwiches, husband said no mayonnaise. Each tables' order were made one at a time (the grill was right near tables) when our food came my husband took a couple of bites and said, "I guess if you order with no mayonnaise, you don't get any lettuce either!!" I looked at my sandwich, and I had both lettuce and tomato! If you know my husband he's not gonna say anything so he just ate it. We laughed! But the worst part was the dog... Every time it shook its hair would float over onto our table and my husbands arm. It was horrible. Guess we won't be going back. Cute dog though! And I brought half of mine back and gave the meat to our dogs! Oh, and one more thing! They were talking to this dog like he was a child, the whole entire time rather loudly. Then they actually told the waitress who came walking through about 30 minutes into our meal that their dog was cleaning off the table for her so she wouldn't have to wipe it! How disgusting is that! A dog, in a restaurant, licking the table.

Great food in classic old-school diner atmosphere; the service is good and food hot and fresh! Coffee is super aromatic and bold but not so strong it's bitter. They gave me actual cream but not sure they always have that. But I tasted coffee black first. My family had dozens of restaurants (Home Dairy Cafeteria's and Bakeries in PA, NY, MI, FL and Canada 1916-2002) for decades and I grew up helping my folks in a two restaurants and taverns they operated. We travel often and live in Pomona CA and have eaten here several times when we travel to Lincoln NE!!

We waited 20 minutes to be seated and ordered within 10 minutes. We ordered the nachos as an appetizer (thank goodness we did) -- they were fine but the chips were kind of soggy and all the meat was at the bottom of the pile. It took a while for us to receive them. Definitely something I could've made better at home but good enough. We ordered our entrees at the same time we ordered the appetizers. It took over an hour before our waitress came and asked if we'd received our food yet, and she rarely checked on us before then. Tables that had been seated at least half an hour after us received their food before we did. She told us there was a weird glitch in the system which is why we hadn't received our food, but she wasn't apologetic and didn't do anything to try and make it right. Still charged us full price for everything, not even comping a fountain drink which I had to ask her to fill every time she came by rather than her seeing our drinks were low or empty and taking initiative (like a decent server should). When our food finally came out, it didn't come together. My dish (buffalo mac) came out first and we still waited another 5 minutes for my husband to get his wings. The food was okay. Like the nachos, I feel I could've made something better myself. Definitely not worth waiting an hour and a half for and not worth the $50 we spent. Don't get me wrong-- I understand when an establishment is short-staffed or if it's a busy night (I know a Saturday night will look different than a weeknight), but this was honestly ridiculous. Though it may have been busy, the staff didn't act it. It seems they are not well-trained. I'm also disappointed that our waitress made no effort to improve or redeem our experience. Like one of the other reviews said, it seems they have a good location with a lot of potential, but I would not waste another minute here.

First off my server, Crystal, was great. She was super helpful, very personable, not overbearing - just excellent. I ordered a 10 inch pepperoni and jalapeño pizza and a side of fries. The fries were crinkle cut fries. They don't come salted, which is fine because she told me they didn't and I just added salt myself. There was nothing special about them. They were just crinkle cut fries. The pizza was a hand tossed crust, clearly not frozen or a shell which is delightful. Cheese was good pepperoni was a little crispy, which I really like, but you don't really get a lot and the jalapeños were crispy and zippy. The overall taste was good. The sauce was a little nondescript, but on the whole I thought it was really good. I would definitely get it again if I'm in North Platte. As far as ambience goes, a casual dining spot with a bar. The menu is typical bar food: Sandwiches, hamburgers, fried appetizers, wings pizza.

A choice I regret now. First of all, our server was great and friendly. The restaurant seems nice...The food is pretty pricey. We were planning on eating at several pizza places on this trip so I skipped the pizza on the menu, especially since they run $17 for a small 10in. Instead I ordered a shrimp basket. For $16 I got 6 miniature fried shrimp. Smaller than my thumb, and I have small hands. I've seen kids meals with more food. I finished my shrimp in less than 2 minutes. My basket also came with crinkle cut fries which were just as disappointing as all crinkle cut fries are. Other than the friendly service the only thing that saved this restaurant from getting less than 3 stars was my mom's Huge bowl of clam chowder and salad for $10. The red velvet cake for about $7 was good too. Overall though I wish we had picked a different restaurant as I still left hungry.

Wow! I had read the reviews on yelp, but then a coworker heard I was in North Platte. She texted…read moreme that I had to go to the Cedar room! I am glad I listened! I came in, took a spot at the bar. I had great service and great conversation with the bartenders and the other patrons. The decor is very stylish with lots of cedar! They had an amazing bourbon selection. It was great to try something rare and expensive! The food was the star of an already great experience! I started with the cowboy caviar. ( country fried steak bites with gravy). They were great. Then I got the ribeye with a side salad. The salad was huge with great toppings. The steak was phenomenal! One of the top 3 ever! Super tender and flavorful. An amazing meal at a great restaurant! Do not pass this one up!

We walked in and there are two large rooms, one dining and one bar/dining area. There is a small bar at the far end that sits around 6 or seven people. We were sat near the window and our server was Penny who was excellent. Penny constantly checked in with us and we were never left wait for service. When it came to ordering wine/cocktails, we were immediately put off by the price of wine. The bottles have an approximate 75% mark up on retail. Way overpriced. You don't see these prices even in the most expensive of steakhouses in my opinion. A glass of wine was the price of a bottle at retail. We elected to go with cocktails. For appetizers, we ordered the Wild Mushroom Brie & Ciabatta. $19 Seared Brie Cheese, brandy glazed belle mushrooms, balsamic reduction, fig chutney; served with Ciabatta toast points. This was good. Cowboy Calamari. $19 Breaded Flat iron sirloin steak bites, fried; served with gravy. I was so looking forward to these but I couldn't even taste the meat.....at all! They were so overly breaded and the steak cut so thin that we felt we were just eating the breading. The gravy was tasty but we couldn't finish the steak bites as we just didn't taste any steak. We split a Cedar Room Wedge. $16 Iceberg, bacon bits, tomatoes, cucumbers, blue cheese crumbles; served with dressing of choice. They split it on two plates and basically did a deconstructed salad. It was fine. After not having a great experience with the food and prices of their wine, we elected to leave and skip the dinner. Although we loved our server Penny and it was a cute establishment, we probably would not return.
