Another great visit!! This trip we ordered:…read more Frog legs with green beans and scalloped potatoes 2 piece dark chicken meal with French fries and greens Fried green tomatoes Our opinion: I was very excited about ordering the fried green tomato appetizer. I think this is the only thing I was disappointed by. The size of the tomatoes is large - but the breading is a flour breading instead of the traditional cornmeal breading. I thought it was too heavy and overpowered the flavor of the tomato itself. I probably wouldn't order these again unless a lighter cornmeal breading was an option. Please make that an option - because this tomato with a cornmeal breading and the fry dip sauce could be absolute heaven. Fried chicken: amazing, delicious, yummy - some of the best fried chicken ever Frog legs: you get 3 sets of legs and they are good size. Fried to perfection and delicious. Sides: Scalloped potatoes - I wasn't crazy about this side. To me a scalloped potato is a thinly sliced potato with a creamy cheese sauce. I would call these cheesy potatoes instead of scalloped. They were larger chunks. Green beans - loved them Greens - a bit salty but good French fries - the perfect French fry with the most amazing sauce ever

I loved my platter of chicken livers w very sweet corn casserole and mashed. I still have 1/2 of it to take home. Hubby's chicken fingers were also fresh as can be. We did get a club cracker pack off the salad bar that had been chewed on by a mouse by the looks of one corner. The pizza bar was below average. The hot bar/home cooking bar was far below average. We were disappointed unfortunately. The peach and cherry cobbler were good. Maybe the breakfast bar is better. Not sure I would want to give it another try. It's one reason I don't go out for breakfast ~ I can make a pretty good breakfast at home. No use paying someone to do something I can do. So, going into Jackson's restaurant, a mom and pop restaurant specializing in home cooked style food, I had my doubts. Walking up to what resembled a school cafeteria lunch line only furthered my doubts. And, seeing the sheer number of different options sitting out behind the glass window only furthered my suspicions. Look, I was wrong. The food here is really good. The service is super friendly and helpful. I was so overwhelmed by all the choices I just told the lady behind the glass counter to pick me something. She obliged with a kindness that made me think she knew me somehow. She chose the chicken and dumplings, beef stew, apples, and two different types of corn bread. Now, I thought initially, and she even admitted, that the chicken and dumplings/beef stew mix was a little unorthodox, but that they were both so good I had to try them. Both were fantastic. The apples were awesome. I liked both types of corn bread. When I got up to leave, she called me over to the counter and said that since it was my first time there, I'd get a free dessert. You all, I was too full to even try. The food here is both tasty and filling. I was in Richmond for a conference at Eastern Kentucky University. So it was really convenient to stop by. But I'd say that even if you're remotely close, it's worth a visit. Don't, as I did, judge a book by its cover.
