Don Senor is a very good chain restaurant in Morehead offering Mexican/Mexican-American cuisine. We are regular patrons. Their menu is large and all the favorites can be found. They serve a huge burrito! The chimichanga is good. Our favorite on the menu is the fajitas, of which the Don Senor Especial is our go-to fav. American staples also appear on the menu and they offer a passable burger. Children's selections are also available; chicken strips, hotdogs, mac&cheese, etc. House margaritas are good and top shelf tequila varieties are available. They also have a good beer selection. On our last visit we had a large party with multiple children and probably presented some challenges, but the staff was as friendly and efficient as always. If you're looking for some decent Mexican food in Morehead, this is the place. The menu is extensive without being overwhelming. On this visit, I ordered the Enchiladas Poblano. The portion size was very good and I ended up with leftovers. My only complaint was that the enchiladas were a little bland...a little more spice to the sauce or perhaps a stronger flavored cheese would have helped. This is your neighborhood Mexican joint. This places is pretty big. Food is ok, service is ok. Portions are large. Prices are decent too! They do not have drink specials after six, boo! I thought the drink prices were high so I opted for water. We ordered cheese dip and the salsa was super mild and bland. My daughter ordered the pollo bandito and my little guy ordered his Mexican meal norm, soft taco with beans and rice. I ordered one of my Mexican favorite dishes, chili Colorado. The sauce was not super spicy and portion was ok. We did not wait long for our food and drinks but we waited a while for our ticket. read more

It seems I've had a bad run of Mexican restaurants lately. Walking in, the place was almost completely empty so of course we expected great, friendly service and fantastic food. Unfortunately neither of those were true. I will admit, the food was decent, but I have much less mercy for decent food, considering we were one table of about 3 in the entire place at the time. Chips weren't very hot, rice was bland and hardly warm and portions for the lunch size were small compared to other lunch portions at similar restaurants. Although, the main reason I can only give this 2 stars, is due to the service. The waiter was incredibly unfriendly, never cracked a smile, and was not helpful with anything during our time eating today. As we walked out, we passed several other employees but none of them managed to crack a smile toward us or thank us for coming. Highly disappointed with my experience. read more

I am still on a quest to find good Tex-Mex food outside of Texas. I hadn't eaten at this restaurant yet, so out a process of elimination, we decided to eat here. This restaurant used to be a Shoney's, and they did do a fairly decent remodel to make it look like a Mexican restaurant. We were seated promptly, and drink orders were taken. A basket of chips was brought out, and only one small bowl of salsa to share between three of us. The salsa was typical canned tomatoes and just average in taste. My son ordered the Pollo Bandito, which is fajita chicken smothered in cheese with rice and beans, but he only ordered the rice. It came with Very little cheese sauce and it was on the bottom of the place instead of over the chicken. But he said it tasted OK. I ordered All a cart, with one cheese enchilada, one beef tamale, rice and beans. The rice and beans were good. The tamale was fair, but not as good as South Texas tamales. See and gelato was OK, but I could've used some more inch a lot of sauce. They were very stingy with that. The last entrée ordered with two crispy beef tacos, which came out and looked and tasted fine. I also ordered a bowl of guacamole to eat with our chips, but never received it. Its a busy place, be patient with the servers. We are from WNY, and the food here is just as good as our hometown Mexican favorite. We enjoyed every bite! The guys got NY Strips and Shrimp cocktail that had as amazing Mexican flare to it with avocado and lime, YUM! I had the Molcajete Don Señor...wow! It was enough for two people and very tasty! This place sucks. We got here, and was seated instantly. Our waitress took our orders, then we waited...and waited and waited. I had to hunt down our waitress for the cheese dip that we ordered...after people came and went and got their food even coming in way after we was there...a group of bikers came in about 30 minutes after us, Even they got food before us. Our waitress never checked in on us for refills or anything. That was the straw that broke the camels back. Every time we go there they screw something up. And that lady was not polite when I spoke about it to her wondering where our food was...told her to forget it...keep the crap! Never be back again! This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in town. Good chips and salsa, beautiful interior decor (converted from an old Shoney's, but you'd never guess once you got inside), and everything I've ordered here has been presented beautifully. The portions are also fairly plentiful, depending upon what you order. My favorite dish is the flautas, which are offered at a very reasonable price for casual dining. My recommendations: -Like most Mexican restaurants, you get chips and salsa at every table. Ask for their guac, and get it tableside. Someone will come out and make it from scratch, to your specifications, and you've never had guac if you haven't had it fresh. -Try their fajitas or their molchajetes; great mix of flavors, very yummy. -Cool off with a slice of key lime pie afterward. My one criticism, and it's barely a criticism: If you're going to pick from the "I'm too picky to try anything actually Mexican" side of the menu, don't expect it to be as good, and expect it to be under-seasoned and bland -- because that's exactly what you asked for. If you order a plain burger and fries, you're going to get the most plain burger and fries you ever imagined possible. Of all the components involved, the only thing with any actual flavor in the whole dish were the buns, because they were buttered and toasted. Unlike the Don Señor in mount sterling this Don Señor is great. I usually order the chicken California and it's superb. The rice is so tasty with the melted cheese and grilled chicken. I love the flavor of the salsa here. It's clean and the staff is always friendly. Usually not too busy especially on weekdays. This place gets a 3 rating by Ohio standards and a 2 rating by NY standards. As this place is in the middle of nowhere and the only Mexican restaurant around one does not have much choice... if this were NY where we have real Mexican restaurants this place be in trouble. In regards to the food: Chips were good but the salsa was bland.. I noticed that most Mexican restaurants in Ohio don't use cilantro in their salsa and its usually not to spicy... Well the carnitas came out very dry, well overcooked, the frioles were watery and I guess they didn't have the mais tortillas because I got flour ones instead... like I wouldn't notice the difference... :( At the end decided to order Flan for dessert just to find out they had run out... great inventory management.... I have been to the Winchester location many many times and I really like it. So I ended up stopping here about an hour before they close but they were already pretty much done for the night as my buddy and I were they only ones here. This is in an old Shoney's building and they did a nice job isn't with it and it's pretty clean for a Mexican restaurant as that goes. The food came out quickly and was a little smaller than I can remember from the other locations I have been to. I had to ask for some cheese as my dish had very little on it. They first said they would charge me and I said okay but they ended up not charging me so that's always a plus. The taste was just okay and just an okay value as well for the $$. I ate dinner here with my relatives who suggested this place. I being from California was a little skeptical since I know what good Mexican food taste like. I ordered the Enchilada Plate which included 4 different Enchiladas. I really enjoyed trying four types since I normally get one. The cheese had a different cheese than I am use to but overall good. It could almost be a 5 star to me, but I ordered a guacamole $2.99 under appetizers and expected it to be a guacamole dip. Any fan of guac. dip knows there is a big difference in guacamole and guac. dip. I'm sure there actual dip is good. I ordered the "nachos with shredded chicken" and it cam with cheese, onions, tomatoes and of course chicken. Muy bien, excellente as my Slanish teacher taught me to say! This is a new restaurant in Morehead next to Holiday Inn. Inside is nicely decorated, friendly staff, good menu, and food.

Pollo bandito, is the best in town. However, other food is comparable. Great for a lunch, not for dinner.

The food was ok, the service was terrible. Our waiter was very rude and would not admit she had brought the wrong dish even though everyone at the table had heard the order, she kept insisting the order was correct. She did not write down our orders. When we asked our waiters name she lied and said it was Laura when it was Sofia. She refused to take the food back and said if we wanted a new dish we would have to pay for both. When we asked for the manager he they could not find him and we had to wait a while to even speak to him. The overall experience was very crap and if you get her I would recommend asking for another waiter. read more

I posted a review of my first experience of Don Senor, and long story short, didnt have a great experience. I recently returned to Don Senor for a friends birthday and thought i'd update. I had a much better experience this time around. We had a large party (8 people) and our service was timely and our orders were correct. I had beef Chimichangas that were excellent, i'd recommend them. I also ordered a bowl of Guacamole, and enjoyed the show I received from the waiter, who made it fresh at the table. The waiter was also a good part of the experience, he had a great sense of humor. In my last review I complained about the prices, and I will say that now they seem to be more comparable to the other mexican places in town. I like the more upscale feel of Don Senor, so if you like that atmosphere over a more cantina-style atmosphere like La Finca or Mi Monterrey, you'll enjoy this place. It's a good place to have a birthday party, or to have drinks after work. That's another thing i'll give credit to Don Senor for; the beer is cheap! read more
