Enchiladas Poblano
Nancy G.

If you're looking for some decent Mexican food in Morehead, this is the place. The menu is extensive without being overwhelming. On this visit, I ordered the Enchiladas Poblano. The portion size was very good and I ended up with leftovers. My only complaint was that the enchiladas were a little bland...a little more spice to the sauce or perhaps a stronger flavored cheese would have helped. The side of rice was decent, but I was a little surprised that there were no beans. When in Morehead again, I will be returning...there are so many other dishes that I want to try! 42/2016

This is your neighborhood Mexican joint. This places is pretty big. Food is ok, service is ok. Portions are large. Prices are decent too! They do not have drink specials after six, boo! I thought the drink prices were high so I opted for water. We ordered cheese dip and the salsa was super mild and bland. My daughter ordered the pollo bandito and my little guy ordered his Mexican meal norm, soft taco with beans and rice. I ordered one of my Mexican favorite dishes, chili Colorado. The sauce was not super spicy and portion was ok. We did not wait long for our food and drinks but we waited a while for our ticket.

Lunch pollo bandido. Decent but small portion even for a lunch size.

It seems I've had a bad run of Mexican restaurants lately. Walking in, the place was almost completely empty so of course we expected great, friendly service and fantastic food. Unfortunately neither of those were true. I will admit, the food was decent, but I have much less mercy for decent food, considering we were one table of about 3 in the entire place at the time. Chips weren't very hot, rice was bland and hardly warm and portions for the lunch size were small compared to other lunch portions at similar restaurants. Although, the main reason I can only give this 2 stars, is due to the service. The waiter was incredibly unfriendly, never cracked a smile, and was not helpful with anything during our time eating today. As we walked out, we passed several other employees but none of them managed to crack a smile toward us or thank us for coming. Highly disappointed with my experience.

We had a girls night out here recently but I've visited this location on other occasions. There is a nice patio with umbrellas in the back. One of the gals that was with us ordered the gigantic bowl in the picture that was impressive. I have no complaints and I find them to be very consistent.

I am still on a quest to find good Tex-Mex food outside of Texas. I hadn't eaten at this restaurant yet, so out a process of elimination, we decided to eat here. This restaurant used to be a Shoney's, and they did do a fairly decent remodel to make it look like a Mexican restaurant. We were seated promptly, and drink orders were taken. A basket of chips was brought out, and only one small bowl of salsa to share between three of us. The salsa was typical canned tomatoes and just average in taste. My son ordered the Pollo Bandito, which is fajita chicken smothered in cheese with rice and beans, but he only ordered the rice. It came with Very little cheese sauce and it was on the bottom of the place instead of over the chicken. But he said it tasted OK. I ordered All a cart, with one cheese enchilada, one beef tamale, rice and beans. The rice and beans were good. The tamale was fair, but not as good as South Texas tamales. See and gelato was OK, but I could've used some more inch a lot of sauce. They were very stingy with that. The last entrée ordered with two crispy beef tacos, which came out and looked and tasted fine. I also ordered a bowl of guacamole to eat with our chips, but never received it. This was another restaurant that was OK, but not good enough to go back to. My search goes on that one great Mexican restaurant outside of South Texas.

Best Mexican place in town, hands down. My wife loves their frozen strawberry margarita. I love their street tacos.

What a great experience! Service and food were both good! I was given a rose for Mother's Day by the server, so very sweet!

This is a new restaurant in Morehead next to Holiday Inn. Inside is nicely decorated, friendly staff, good menu, and food.

Pollo bandito, is the best in town. However, other food is comparable. Great for a lunch, not for dinner.

It is my first time to Morehead, Kentucky. Absolutely beautiful place!…read moreMy son said I "needed" to try Cook Out before I left. I must tell you, there is massive hype surrounding this drive-thru only restaurant. For the college kid on a budget I totally get it. However, I was not totally on board as we rolled to a stop at one of the two drive thru lanes. It was pretty hard for me to hear and understand the person on the intercom. They have Mr Pibb but not Dr Pepper. Let me say here that Mr Pibb was a drink whose recipe was surely invented by the Soviets during the Cold War in order to create chaos an unrest in the US. I just got a coke. I ordered a "tray", with a double burger on the advice of my more worldly, athlete son. He went the distance and ordered the same, but in a special way ( I think it might have been "cookout style"?). Anyway, it came with chili and slaw... on the burger. Again, under his advisement , I ordered the hush puppies as a side, and I saw they had Cajun Fries, so I thought I would try them. My one regret is that I did not try one of the 45 shakes on the menu. I was not super hungry and I just couldn't justify buying one. The food was ready, fresh, and hot in a matter of about three minutes! A friendly efficient young lady passed it through the window to us and took our payment. I was pretty impressed at their operation as far as that went. My son's order was correct but I think they might've given me a junior burger or something? It turned out it was fine because there was quite a bit of food there. Hush puppies were in fact pretty good. The "Cajun Fries" were just crinkle cut fries with some kind of spicy, salty powder sprinkled on them after they put the fries in the styrofoam container. The tiny burger was tasty, and the burgers taste like they are flame broiled. Pretty good! Overall, the food was pretty good. My experience would've been a lot better if the intercom and order taker had been little bit better, so keep that in mind if you go here. The drive-through only business is not for me, but for college kids and people who just want to get something to eat on the way home I think it's fine. I can't recommend the shakes because I didn't try one but they all sounded really good.

One of my local (Morehead) favorites, especially in the summer. The food truly reminds me of summer…read moretime backyard cookouts (something that sadly has become more of my past than my present). I love ending summer days with a hamburger and hotdog (don't judge me). It is a great away to add a little "summer" to winter days. A "cookout" for dinner when the temps are cold is a great way to break the winter doldrums.

I truly wanted to give Mr. Gattis 5 stars, I have been eating here since I was young, brought my…read morekids here when they were young, had birthday parties here, little league celebrations here, you name it, but a couple of things kept me from doing so. First the bad: 1. Their prices are outrageous now. I get things have gone up, but two buffets with drinks is almost $30 - how can a family afford to come here now? 2. The employees who were working on Wednesday night were not very friendly, especially the one with long hair wafting in the breeze as he walked around. It really seemed like a bunch of high school boys just goofing off, they barely smiled, and the one seemed to have a chip on his shoulder the size of Mt. Rushmore (the one with long hair). There was one guy who was friendly as we were leaving but I don't know if I saw him prior to that time. Usually there is an extremely nice gentleman working, he always smiles, doesn't know my name but recognizes me from all my years patronizing the restaurant, and he truly is just cheerful and welcoming. Also the owner is super nice. She has done soooo much to continue to update the restaurant, the games, the seats, you name it! Now for the good, actually the great! 1. Per the norm, the restaurant was clean and bright. 2. The food on the buffet was hot, fresh, and always stocked (so even though the boys might have been goof offs they were working on something). The mac and cheese was super fresh and my daughter said it was the best she had ever had there. 3. The games were updated and fun. There was a new VR game and the game room was clean. There was a variety of games for most ages, and everyone seemed to be having fun. 4. The pizza was delicious, and exactly what I expect when I go there. Since moving away, Gattis is one of the go to places as soon as I touch down because it has so many good memories, and it's comfort food. It always sucks when you go back to a place you used to frequent to "relive" a moment and it's not what it once was - but Gattis always delivers and the cheese sticks and pizza are still the same and still great.
