I think this is the only thing I was disappointed by. The size of the tomatoes is large - but the breading is a flour breading instead of the traditional cornmeal breading. I thought it was too heavy and overpowered the flavor of the tomato itself. I probably wouldn't order these again unless a lighter cornmeal breading was an option. Please make that an option - because this tomato with a cornmeal breading and the fry dip sauce could be absolute heaven. Fried chicken: amazing, delicious, yummy - some of the best fried chicken ever Frog legs: you get 3 sets of legs and they are good size. Fried to perfection and delicious. Sides: Scalloped potatoes - I wasn't crazy about this side. To me a scalloped potato is a thinly sliced potato with a creamy cheese sauce. I would call these cheesy potatoes instead of scalloped. I loved my platter of chicken livers w very sweet corn casserole and mashed. I still have 1/2 of it to take home. Hubby's chicken fingers were also fresh as can be. You will smell like fried everything afterwards, so don't plan a romantic evening. You also should not expect fast service on a busy Saturday night since it is a one room place. My wife and I make it a point to stop at the Mays Lick Dinner Bell whenever we are nearby. We always split a dinner, and always still manage to have food left to take home. The food is tremendous, the prices are reasonable, and the portions are huge. It is down home cooking at its finest. From the fish platter, which has catfish, bluegill, and grouper, to the fall-off-the-plate size ribs, you can't go wrong. Never thought a diner at a gas station would be good but it was!! I ordered their grass-fed never frozen rib eye special with a huge loaded shredded chicken baked potato, cowboy beans and dinner roll. The boys ordered their fried cat fish. Their sign at the front door says "if you leave hungry, it's your own fault" and they weren't kidding! The portion was a lot! The steak was cooked to perfection and seasoned well and very tasty! I think it was a 14 oz steak and I finished it all! You can totally tell the cook have passion for cooking every dish as he was signing along with the music they played. Always a great experience! Homemade everything, huge portions, amazing prices! If this was near a major city, reservations would be required. We've never been disappointed. We headed over after a quick trip to Maysville. We arrived about 15 minutes until close. I worried they'd be finished seating and wouldn't have minded if that had been the case. They welcomed us, seated and served us right away. We drive 45 minutes and this is a monthly staple. Especially Saturday steak night. This place was probably the last place I expected to have great food, but man was I surprised. You pull up in front of super unassuming marathon gas station, but once you go into the restaurant you're met with an authentic atmosphere and the message "If you leave here hungry, it's your fault!". That message ended up to be truer than I had thought it could be. I ordered a bacon pepperjack cheeseburger with fries, and when I got it it didn't look like much, but the quality and taste was something else. It was a huge single-patty burger which was well seasoned and flavorful, and even came with onion rings on it. Any diner would be jealous of the quality of the food. The guy who cooks the stuff is also the owner, and he seems very passionate. I'm looking forward to the opening of another location, which I heard they're planning to do. The Service was Very Good! The food was excellent! A couple stand outs were the cowboy beans (maybe the best ever), the deep fried corn on the cob (a serious treat!), the catfish was excellent! Finally visited this place on 12/6 everyone raves about! The food was great and the cook was happily vocal. The waitress on the other hand needs training!! She was sitting and getting ready to eat food from another restaurant, I get it as I used to be a server/manager, when we arrived. Finally after waiting for service we ask to have different drinks as our pop was all flat. She goes back to sitting down without getting different drinks! Another table gets there food and didn't have their salads or drinks refilled!! They say something to the waitress and she literally went and told another staff member that she's done waiting tables!! Was not busy at all!! If she knew the 7 steps of service she'd make a great waitress!!! Thanks to the cook for giving us a great experience with the food! read more

My first visit and was looking forward to it due to reviews. It had a homey ambiance. The service was great and servers were friendly and attentive. My husband and I ordered the ribeye special. The shredder pork stuffed potato was very good and actually would make a meal by itself ( we took it home) . The ribeye was full of grizzle and my husband gave up it. However, I found the flavor combined with seasoned drawn better very delicious and chewed what I could and spit out the rest. The cowboy beans and the cabbage/ turnip greens were way too sweet! Easy to miss as it's connected to a gas station, but you'll be sorry you missed it, if you do!! I promise you'll walk into this hole in the wall not expecting much and be totally blown away. Recently my family and I had a bad experience at a local restaurant in Maysville where my food was undercooked and we were talked and treated badly. Mayslick Dinner Bell Owners heard about our experience and sent a message apologizing even though it wasn't their obligation. They offered to cook a meal for us at no charge and would make sure it was cooked to our liking! The message filled with kind words blew me away and touched my heart! I'm EXCITED to provide the first review for Dinner Bell. The diner is on Hwy 68 next to the Marathon gas station. My brother in-law recommended Dinner Bell and being local he knows great spots. Most everything on the menu is fried: catfish, chicken, onion rings etc. The coleslaw was very good, not to sweet. Deserts looked terrific but I ran out of room. I love the Dinnerbell, generous portions, no long wait, they sound like Waffle House howling "Order Up". The only thing I would like to suggest is, I'd appreciate bread with my meal. No rolls, cornbread, breadsticks, nothing. I don't enjoy a meal without bread. Otherwise the food is good and worth a try. When you go into a restaurant, you can really tell when the owner is a true "Foody". Go as you are, nobody cares what you look like. read more
