we live in CT, but have been to Pennington Bagel a several times. One of which was to feed a University men's Lacrosse team many, of the "boys" still talk about how good the sandwiches were when they played (Princeton). The owners are wonderful generous people, the food is excellent. The cream cheese flavors are excellent and made in house, the bagels are fresh and very good. read more

Lets start on a positive note. The new store is nice. As for the staff. I have never seen so many miserable people working in one place. Come on these are high school girls what do that have to be so moody about. Maybe they got up to early. No one ever smiles in this place and when you put your order in you feel like you are doing somethin wrong. I really really want to like this place but they are making it very hard. If I have a good experience in the future I will change my rating. I agree with all of the other comments. Very pricey. Not very good service. Bagel wasn't that great. When I walked in it was not very busy at all. I was the only person in line and there were about three other customers in the establishment. There were 4 people behind the counter. Not one acknowledged me. Even a, "we will be right with you" would have gone a long way. Instead it Nothing for about 5 minutes. The woman behind the counter was more concerned about eating her lunch meat and bossing the kids working for her around than any type of customer service. I got a plan egg bagel with nothing on it that completely tasted like cheese. It was not very good. I also got an iced coffee that tasted like water. I'll echo the other comments and say that the customer service in this place is atrocious. I've been there three times. In all three cases, they've screwed up the order. Wrong bagel, tomatoes missing, wrong cream cheese, etc. And yesterday, they forgot to put the order in so I'm waiting and waiting... and nothing. 10 min later I walked up and reminded them that I was still waiting. They feigned surprise and then, finally, put the order in. Ridiculous. I'll say this place is dirty as well. Tables are not wiped off, the back room is clearly disorganized, the walls behind the counter are full of hanging crap. All this indicates to me that they care little about making sure the place runs well. Who owns this place? Don't they care that their staff sucks? Don't they realize it? I swear I am not the kind of person that demands impeccable service when I am out! I'm VERY laid back and patient and I totally understand that this place is low key and typically, if I'm not in a hurry, I could care less how long they take to get my food. But they could really step it up a little on occasion. I don't necessarily need people to be overly friendly either, but "Hi" and "Thank You" would be nice now and then. That being said - I keep going back because they do make great bagels and sandwiches that are awesome! Hubby and I were passing through town and stumbled upon this bagel place. Glad we did because we enjoyed it! I had whitefish on a salted bagel...slightly toasted. Delish and came out exactly the way I requested! I enjoyed every bite! Hubby had egg and sausage on a poppy bagel...he too enjoyed it. Not crowded for lunch so it wasn't slow...and our food was brought out to us in a very timely matter...in fact it was fast! The bagels are very good, as is the menu selection and the many bagel sandwiches they offer. The reasons they don't get more than three stars are: 1.) The customer service is atrocious. Six people behind the counter, 15 people in line, and no one is being waited on or rung up. Get it together! 2.) They only had four types of bagels to choose from at noon on a Sunday - garlic, onion, salt and cinnamon raisin. How does a bagel shop run out of bagels? Does the Gap run out of clothes? After all of these years in business, they should be able to correctly judge the number of customers they get on the typical Sunday and have enough product. read more

While the bagel itself was good, I was really disappointed to see that they do not have a grill, and instead seemingly microwave their breakfast sandwiches. It's a lively place, especially in the am which is when I go there with my wife, usually after we drop off our daughter at school. Pennington Bagel Experience is a small bagel store located in the Pennington Shopping Center on Route 31. I used to go and have bagel sandwiches with friends here often. They make delicious bagels and their bagel sandwiches are especially good... the ingredients are always fresh and everything is made-to-order. A cultural landmark. When I think of the way a bagel is supposed to taste, I think of these. I've been told by friends that prefer Einstein Bagel that these are "too doughy", but I'm no longer friends with those people. People say their sandwiches are good, but I pretty much always get my bagels toasted with cream cheese, or take home a dozen. Pennington bagel is a bit of a misnomer. You can definitely get your standard bagel with your schmear of cream cheese here but what you really want to get are the sandwiches. I am OUTRAGED how Pennington Bagel treats their customers. Me: called in order 11:19am (1 bagel sandwich) Penn. Bagel: give us about 15 min. I arrive 20 min later, wait in line another 10. Boy at counter says they haven't started on my order yet. Wait another 5-10, get to register. Young girl: I can't ring you up until I have a ticket. (3 more people are served) Different young girl: rudely shoves a bag of bagels at me (not mine). I throw it on the counter. Older woman (Owner) asks what i ordered. I start to talk and she talks over me and asked if I called it in or ordered it there. Me: called it in. She starts saying something rude (can't remember) then asks "are you just gonna stare at me?!" Me: I'm waiting for your question. (I politely said I've been waiting 40 min and everyone in front of me has walked in and gotten their food.) Woman: Have you been STANDING here for 40 min? Me: No, I called it in, then drove here. Woman: starts asking what I ordered then says "You're looking at me with an irritated look on your face (rude tone)". I reminded her how long I've been waiting and hadn't gotten my food yet Owner: You don't have to tell me 4 times how long you've been waiting! Me: I didn't say it 4 times, only 2. Me: I think I've been pretty patient waiting this long. Everyone has been served and I'm still waiting. Woman: Says something like "I've been doing this for 20 years". Me: Yeah and every time my order is wrong. I can't believe you treat your customers like this. Woman: Then why don't you just leave! None of their employees wear gloves. Ever. This past Saturday I saw several employees touch the phone and register then go straight to preparing people's food without at least washing their hands. It's absolutely disgusting, but what's funny about it is that they all look silly because they try not to touch the bagels "too much" by just pinching them and handling them as little as possible which just wastes time and isn't any more sanitary. I started off ordering by asking if they toasted bagels; it is not uncommon in beach towns for no toasting. The young lady was confused about whether they had a toaster- which I thought was odd. I then spied a toaster in the back, and continued to place my order. The entire staff really look miserable and make it very apparent. Even while paying, the young lady who completed our transaction didn't say more than two words to us. After leaving and excitedly opening my bagel I discovered it had not been toasted. DO NOT GO HERE. They have good bagels, so I've been willing to look past the fact that they MICROWAVE their eggs and meat to cook them. However, you can only push someone so much with awful service and attitudes before they decide to take their business elsewhere. I feel bad for the young girls who work here because the owner/manager (not sure which one it was) seems to be tyrannical and berates her workers when they're just trying to do their best to cater to the hundreds of customers they get. I just wanted to give an update on a GREAT customer service experience I had today. Fortunately it was a holiday, so not many people were in, and I unknowingly got to interact with the owner. I asked her some qs about their cream cheeses, and also asked about their bagels. We then got to talking about their "bagels of the week" and I told her how much I LOVE the banana raisin walnut bagel and she explained to me why they haven't had it, but said that she would write down to make it soon and even took my name and number to call when she made them! I also made a few other bagel flavor suggestions and they were welcomed with oopen arms. I had high hopes since we woke up and decided to go here. The other 3 said this place was a little hike since we may have been hungover but that it would be worthwhile n that things were very good and I was starving. Only thing was that maybe the girls working there may be mean so I was told to be prepared. I wasn't. Cos the one that took my order and the one who rang me up were very nice! Lol. I've never been n don't live close so was compelled to get 3 things. Has I remembered the chicken salad I also would of gotten that as I hear that is good. I got the #2 pastrami which was real good with side of potato salad which was awesome with pieces of egg in it. This made for a good pre ufc snack. Lunch was the maple honey ham with lite scallion cream cheese n cucumber in a wrap. This shit was really fucking good! The meal to start the day n get me back on track after a fun night out was the pork roll egg n pepper jack cheese on everything bagel with bagel. Fresh eggs, tasty bacon n solid pork roll n bagel! Was exactly what I needed n that along with the other two items, all of which were fantastic have me wanting to go back.
